Assimilation, acculturation, and social Integration can have adverse psychological effects on marriage between immigrants and native Swedes. The study was conducted in Sweden. Immigrants in Sweden migrated from different countries and ethnic streams, many of which have different cultural norms and beliefs that may not fit well with the mainstream culture in Sweden. The method used in the study was the qualitative method with a semi-structured interview. Purposive and snowball sampling was used to locate the participants. Thus, this study aims to explore how assimilation, acculturation, and soc

For decades “Swedology” was a rich and polemically charged genre. “Swedophiles” and “Swedoclasts” were quite as eager to deploy images of Sweden as weapons in foreign contexts as they were interested in the country as such. A telling example is the genre’s early classic, Marquis W. Childs’s Sweden: The Middle Way from 1936. With the backdrop of Dwight Eisenhower’s attempt to get back at Childs by branding Sweden as an extreme society in 1960, this essay aims to see Childs’s book as an argument in its original context during the New Deal. This journal discusses how the welfare of the Scandinavian state became one of the main factors of Sweden's economic progress. The author uses qualitative methods to analyze how Sweden implements a welfare state as Sweden's main economic policy. The welfare state itself is a system where the government takes a strong role in reducing existing inequalities through various social programs. Sweden implements a comprehensive welfare state by collecting high taxes on the community and then channeling them back to the community with various social programs. As a country of high migration, Sweden presents an interesting case for the study of belongingness. For the children of migrants, ethnic and national identification, as well as ascriptive identity, can pose challenges to feelings of belongingness, which is an essential element for positive mental health. In this article, survey data were collected from 626 Swedes whose parents were born in the following countries: Somalia, Poland, Vietnam, and Turkey. The results show that Poles significantly felt they received more reflective appraisals of ascription than any other group. However, despite not

This brief article provides a description of some new ideas about admission of university engineering students in Sweden. The current system of admission is based on upper-secondary school grades and the Swedish Scholastic Assessment Test. These measures are used for admission to all higher education. For many reasons, ideas for a new admission model have been proposed. This model includes a sector-oriented admission test, which the universities are supposed to use for different purposes, such as selection, eligibility, diagnostics, and recruitment.

Abstract In the period 1947–1972, large numbers of migrants arrived in Sweden to perform work, particularly in the manufacturing industry. The largest number of migrants came from Finland. Prior to the 1960s, Yugoslavia had not been a significant origin country for immigrants in Sweden, but immigration from Yugoslavia to Sweden increased in that decade. The question posed in the article is: how did Sweden become interlinked with Yugoslavia as an emigration country? The article focuses on the part played by firms and their interaction with state authorities. Swedish employers developed preferen
