Abstract:
Engines are open systems that can generate work cyclically at the expense of an external disequilibrium. They are ubiquitous in nature and technology, but the course of mathematical physics over the last 300 years has tended to make their dynamics in time a theoretical blind spot. This has hampered the usefulness of statistical mechanics applied to active systems, including living matter. We argue that recent advances in the theory of open quantum systems, coupled with renewed interest in understanding how active forces result from positive feedback between different macroscopic degrees of freedom in the presence of dissipation, point to a more realistic description of autonomous engines. We propose a general conceptualization of an engine that helps clarify the distinction between its heat and work outputs. Based on this, we show how the external loading force and the thermal noise may be incorporated into the relevant equations of motion. This modifies the usual Fokker–Planck and Langevin equations, offering a thermodynamically complete formulation of the irreversible dynamics of simple oscillating and rotating engines.

Abstract:
AC algorithm of blind sources has been applied to the identification of engine noise sources. However, the testing platform based on the blind separation theory is difficult to actualize some experiments and obtain data in the real environment, or to obtain these requires high cost. Therefore, this paper proposes a new approach to construct an experimental testing platform-Sinmulink Model so as to identify engine surface noise sources. This model is applied to the test of the experimental data. These experiments demonstrate that Simulink model is efficient to identify engine noise source and the testing data accord with that made by the former platform. It is obvious that Simulink model, to some degree, can be used to replace engine surface noise sources testing platform.

Abstract:
The Hammer prototype is a query engine for corpora of Open Data that provides users with the concept of blind querying. Since data sets published on Open Data portals are heterogeneous, users wishing to find out interesting data sets are blind: queries cannot be fully specified, as in the case of databases. Consequently, the query engine is responsible for rewriting and adapting the blind query to the actual data sets, by exploiting lexical and semantic similarity. The effectiveness of this approach was discussed in our previous works. In this paper, we report our experience in developing the query engine. In fact, in the very first version of the prototype, we realized that the implementation of the retrieval technique was too slow, even though corpora contained only a few thousands of data sets. We decided to adopt the Map-Reduce paradigm, in order to parallelize the query engine and improve performances. We passed through several versions of the query engine, either based on the Hadoop framework or on the Spark framework. Hadoop and Spark are two very popular frameworks for writing and executing parallel algorithms based on the Map-Reduce paradigm. In this paper, we present our study about the impact of adopting the Map-Reduce approach and its two most famous frameworks to parallelize the Hammer query engine; we discuss various implementations of the query engine, either obtained without significantly rewriting the algorithm or obtained by completely rewriting the algorithm by exploiting high level abstractions provided by Spark. The experimental campaign we performed shows the benefits provided by each studied solution, with the perspective of moving toward Big Data in the future. The lessons we learned are collected and synthesized into behavioral guidelines for developers approaching the problem of parallelizing algorithms by means of Map-Reduce frameworks.

Abstract:
The diesel engine vibration induced by piston impact force (also known as slaps) presents us very important information about piston-and-cylinder clearance and engine performance. However it is notorious difficult formaking an accurate measurement for the piston slaps due to the enormous interferences, reverberation, and complicated vibration responses. This paper presents an application of blind source separation technique to solve the problem. The method is based on one novel algorithm which uses blind source de-convolution algorithm. It can overcome the conventional blind source separation calculation drawbacks like local minimization value problems occurred with the fixed step response algorithm. The simulation and experiment results have indicated it can recover the corrupted signals and obtain the accurate piston slap signals at the measurement point.

Abstract:
6086 Introduction: Cancer patients and oncologists are increasingly using the Internet. Online information is affecting patient decisions regarding treatment. Therefore, multiple organizations published advice on how to screen out problematic information online. In the present study, we sought to determine whether existing quality assessment tools can screen out false or inaccurate breast cancer information online. Methods: Using 15 representative search queries on five popular search engines and only the first page of results, we generated a list of 1,585 Web pages. After eliminating irrelevant, broken and duplicate links 343 unique web pages were downloaded and evaluated for website characteristics, information accuracy and 15 quality criteria: authorship identified, author credentials identified, physician credentials stated, author affiliation stated, sources clear, general disclosures, attribution/references provided, disclosure of ownership, date created displayed, date of last update displayed, date of creation or last updated displayed, editorial process stated, internal search engine present, feedback mechanism provided and copyright notice. Quality criteria were evaluated by an independent evaluator blinded to the accuracy information. Accuracy was determined independently by a pair of clinically trained evaluators. Results: Of 343 pages evaluated, 41 false/misleading statements were displayed on 18 distinct pages. The presence of an internal search engine was correlated most strongly (r = .196, r2 = .038) with health information accuracy. However, all quality criteria (alone or in combinations tested exhaustively) were linearly associated with less than 7% of the variance in number of inaccuracies per website. Conclusion: Currently available technical quality criteria do not identify false or misleading online information about breast cancer. At this time, directing patients to websites with known content appears to be the only way to ensure patients will not encounter false or misleading online information. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract:
Abstract Small advanced turboprop and turboshaft engines, with two-stage high-pressure turbine (HPT), need to meet several challenges. Described herein is an exemplary solution adopted for a cantilevered HPT nozzle mounting and sealing system that helped to meet requirements for size constraint and sealing of split lines and mounting features. Since clearances do not scale down with engine size due to manufacturing tolerances, there is a very limited space available between first and second stage rotors to secure HPT nozzle and to provide means of cooling air supply. Due to small diameters, cavities and size of the parts and assembly access becomes very difficult and precluded the use of typical solutions – like supply air spooilers – known from bigger engines. Relatively larger clearances require also efficient solution for sealing leakage, which was achieved by means of high-temperature braided “rope seals”. The nozzle segments have weight effective hook-type outer band mounting to HPT outer casing and are axially retained by HPT shroud with a snap ring. The hook cavities were used as pockets for rope seals that are subsequently compressed during assembly making it more difficult. However, by special design of the pockets and parts engagement sequence, the assembly process was optimized even though it is so called blind assembly. The sealing system function is not only reducing leakages that are detrimental to a turbine efficiency, but also allow for pressurizing the cavity between the nozzle outer band and HPT outer casing with cooling air thus preventing from hot gas ingestion by higher back-flow margin (BFM) resulting in higher durability of the turbine.

Abstract:
A method which can be used to analyze and separate the vibration signals of diesel engine is proposed. The vibration signals contain a great deal of information about the engine’s fault state, and it is hard to obtain the fault characteristic parameters because of the complex mechanical movement and operating conditions. Study on vibration by fourth order blind identification is carried out in this paper. And FOBI model that estimate the separation matrix by independent component analysis is established and applied to diesel engine vibration to separate the different signals. The results show that signals of different characteristics can be separated perfectly. This method can be used as the pre-processing step to obtain the fault characteristic parameters.

Abstract:
This paper is a fusion of two independent studies investigating related problems concerning the use of haptic virtual environments for blind people: a study in Sweden using a PHANToM 1.5 A and one in the U.K. using an Impulse Engine 3000. In general, the use of such devices is a most interesting option to provide blind people with information about representations of the 3D world, but the restriction at each moment to only one point of contact between observer and virtual object might decrease their effectiveness. The studies investigated the perception of virtual textures, the identification of virtual objects and the perception of their size and angles. Both sighted (blindfolded in one study) and blind people served as participants. It was found (1) that the PHANToM can effectively render textures in the form of sandpapers and simple 3D geometric forms and (2) that the Impulse Engine can effectively render textures consisting of grooved surfaces, as well as 3D objects, properties of which were, however, judged with some over- or underestimation. When blind and sighted participants' performance was compared differences were found that deserves further attention. In general, the haptic devices studied have demonstrated the great potential of force feedback devices in rendering relatively simple environments, in spite of the restricted ways they allow for exploring the virtual world. The results highly motivate further studies of their effectiveness, especially in more complex contexts.

Abstract:
<p>A low-complexity detection scheme, which consists of a Hybrid Micro Genetic Algorithm (Hybrid- µGA), is proposed for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In the absence of orthogonality, intercarrier-interference (ICI) occurs because a signal from one subcarrier causes interference to others. In several environment, the OFDM signal reflections from a far obstacle generate inter-block-interference (IBI) due to long time delays. To avoid these unpleasant effects of IBI and ICI in OFDM system, a Hybrid-µGA detection algorithm is proposed. The proposed detector combines the conventional one-Tap equalizer and the Micro Genetic Algorithm (µGA) search engine. The output of one-Tap equalizer is considered as the input to µGA search engine. Therefore, the µGA starts with some knowledge rather than blindly to speed up the search. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed detection Hybrid- µGA scheme substantially improves the performance of OFDM systems. Moreover, its complexity is 10 times lower than the conventional GA.</p>

Abstract:
Considering the importance of continually improving the algorithms in aircraft engine diagnostic systems, the present paper proposes and benchmarks a gas-path monitoring and diagnostics framework through the Propulsion Diagnostic Methodology Evaluation Strategy (ProDiMES) software developed by NASA. The algorithm uses fleet-average and individual engine baseline models to compute feature vectors that form a fault classification with healthy and faulty engine classes. Using this classification, a hybrid fault-recognition technique based on regularized extreme learning machines and sparse representation classification was trained and validated to perform both fault detection and fault identification as a common process. The performance of the system was analyzed along with the results of other diagnostic frameworks through four stages of comparison based on different conditions, such as operating regimes, testing data, and metrics (detection, classification, and detection latency). The first three stages were devoted to the independent algorithm development and self-evaluation, while the final stage was related to a blind test case evaluated by NASA. The comparative analysis at all stages shows that the proposed algorithm outperforms all other diagnostic solutions published so far. Considering the advantages and the results obtained, the framework is a promising tool for aircraft engine monitoring and diagnostic systems.

Abstract:
The use of spinal anaesthesia for day care lower abdominal surgeries is limited due to its characteristics like delayed ambulation, urinary retention etc. The ultrashort acting 1% 2chloroprocaine (2CP) shows the properties of ideal local anaesthetic for short duration surgeries. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of two different adjuvants (fentanyl or dexmedetomidine) with intrathecal2CP for spinal block characteristics.A prospective randomised double blinded study was conducted on 126 patients scheduled for short duration lower abdominal surgeries under spinal anaesthesia. They were randomised into 3 groups. Group C received 40µg of 1% 2CP while group F received 2CP + 25µg fentanyl; and group D received 2 CP + 10µgdexmedetomidine. Tactile and engine bar qualities, prerequisite of post usable absence of pain, haemodynamics and sedation score were evaluated. The segment information, length of medical procedure, beginning of tangible square, an ideal opportunity to arrive at top tactile level were practically identical in every one of the three groups(P&#62;0.05). Span of tactile & engine block & postoperative absence of pain was essentially delayed in bunch D versus bunch F & gathering C(P&#60;0.001). Intrathecal addition of dexmedetomidine (10µg) & fentanyl (25µg) to 1%2CP brought about an essentially delayed tangible & engine bar with postoperative absence of pain. However, dexmedetomidine was viewed as a preferable adjuvant over fentanyl as far as drawn out length of absence of pain with insignificant secondary effects.

Abstract:
Thermocouples are one of the most popular devices for temperature measurement due to their robustness, ease of manufacture and installation, and low cost. However, when used in the harsh environment found in combustion systems and automotive engine exhausts, large wire diameters are required and consequently the measurement bandwidth is reduced. This paper describes two new algorithmic compensation techniques based on blind deconvolution to address this loss of high-frequency signal components using the measurements from two thermocouples. In particular, a continuous-time approach is proposed, combined with a cross-relation blind deconvolution for parameter estimation. A feature of this approach is that no a priori assumption is made about the time constant ratio of the two thermocouples. The advantages, including small estimation variance and limitations of the method, are highlighted using results from simulation and test rig studies.

Abstract:
According to the World Health Organization estimation, globally the number of people with some visual impairment is estimated to be 285 million, of whom 39 million are blind. The inability to use features such as sending and reading of email, schedule management, pathfinding or outdoor navigation, and reading SMS is a disadvantage for blind people in many professional and educational situations. Speech or text analysis can help improve support for visually-impaired people. Users can speak a command to perform a task. The spoken command will be interpreted by the Speech Recognition Engine (SRE) and can be converted into text or perform suitable actions. In this paper, an application that allows schedule management, emailing, and SMS reading completely based on voice command is proposed, implemented, and validated. The System hopes to provide blind people to simply speak the desired functionality and be guided thereby the system’s audio instructions. The proposed and designed app is implemented to support three languages which are English, Hindi, and Kannada.

Abstract:
IPAtranscriptor is a tool for creating narrow phonetic transcriptions. As it connects to the computer's default text-to-speech engine on demand, the program can be used not only by sighted but also by partially sighted and blind individuals. Sighted users can choose whether they prefer the mouse or the keyboard as their input device. In contrast to other programs, the full set of symbols and diacritics of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) is implemented and users can produce very narrow phonetic transcriptions as they can insert up to three diacritics above and three diacritics below each IPA symbol to modify it. Furthermore, the program can facilitate the collaboration between blind and sighted phoneticians (or students of linguistics in general) since they can easily exchange their phonetic transcriptions. A conversion of the transcriptions is not necessary as all transcribers can use the same system regardless of their visual abilities. IPAtranscriptor is freely available online and is believed to be the first audio-based program for narrow phonetic transcription that can be used by blind and sighted phoneticians.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the mathematical modeling of the conditions for ventilating extended blind dead end stope chamber-like mine workings of large cross-section, which are formed by expanding the preparatory rifled mine working when loading and hauling machines with an internal combustion engine are operating in them. The experience of using CFD-modeling in solving problems of ventilation of such mine workings is analyzed. Numerical dependences of the change in the average concentration of exhaust gases at the workplace of the load-haul-dump machine operator on the operating time of equipment with an internal combustion engine in the stope area of the chamber were obtained. These dependencies allowed to determine the coefficient of efficiency of ventilation of dead-end stope chamber-like mine workings of large cross-section when operating equipment with an internal combustion engine in them. It was found that the ventilation efficiency coefficient can be taken equal to one both in the case of an increase in the concentration, and in the case of its decrease. The conclusion is made about the same regularities in the processes of accumulation and removal of harmful impurities in the dead-end mine working. Using a parameterized model, expressions were obtained for determining maximum operating time of the machine with an internal combustion engine for unloading ore from the stope area without exceeding maximum permissible concentration of the exhaust gases. An expression is also presented for calculating the minimum ventilation time of the chamber after the vehicle leaves and before its re-entry into the chamber. Made conclusions and obtained dependencies will allow to ensure safe working conditions for the miners in the extended dead-end stope chamber-like mine workings of large cross-section.

Abstract:
Internet search rankings have a significant impact on consumer choices, mainly because users trust and choose higher-ranked results more than lower-ranked results. Given the apparent power of search rankings, we asked whether they could be manipulated to alter the preferences of undecided voters in democratic elections. Here we report the results of five relevant double-blind, randomized controlled experiments, using a total of 4,556 undecided voters representing diverse demographic characteristics of the voting populations of the United States and India. The fifth experiment is especially notable in that it was conducted with eligible voters throughout India in the midst of India’s 2014 Lok Sabha elections just before the final votes were cast. The results of these experiments demonstrate that (i) biased search rankings can shift the voting preferences of undecided voters by 20% or more, (ii) the shift can be much higher in some demographic groups, and (iii) search ranking bias can be masked so that people show no awareness of the manipulation. We call this type of influence, which might be applicable to a variety of attitudes and beliefs, the search engine manipulation effect. Given that many elections are won by small margins, our results suggest that a search engine company has the power to influence the results of a substantial number of elections with impunity. The impact of such manipulations would be especially large in countries dominated by a single search engine company.

Abstract:
The engineblock and cylinderhead of automobile are usually made of cast iron, and tapping of blind holes is one of the most demanding operations. As usual, tapping is the final process for an engineblock, and the failure of taps can disable the engineblock possibly. The productivity is restricted because of the low cutting speed and poor wear resistance of high speed steel (HSS) taps. Thereby, according to the demand on high speed cutting and low tact time of modern engine production lines, several new typical special tungsten carbide taps are developed and their cutting performance are evaluated in comparison with the commercial taps. In the process of tapping blind holes in gray cast iron and ductile cast iron, several aspects are studied comparatively such as wear mechanism of the first complete and the last incomplete tooth, tap structure, wear of TiCN coating and effects of coolant on cutting performance of taps. This study indicates that straight coated taps with fewer flutes are suitable for high speed tapping of cast iron.

Abstract:
Background: The Internet has drastically changed how patients access health-related information. There are several ways the public can access online health-related information such as search engines, blogs, support groups, and webinars. A recent study found that 45% of orthopedic patients searched for information online regarding their injury. Also, 78% believed they had better understanding of their condition after visiting these websites; furthermore, 41% felt the Internet supplied them with questions and concerns to discuss with their physicians. The aim of our study is to evaluate the accuracy, quality, and readability of online available information using the search terms “ankle sprain” and “ankle instability.” Methods: Three search engines (Google, Bing, and Yahoo) were used to search for the terms “ankle sprain” and “ankle instability.” The first 25 websites from each search were collected. Each website was assessed for quality, accuracy, and readability by 3 orthopedic residents blinded to the search term used. Websites were also evaluated for commercial bias and whether written by physicians or not. Results: Twenty sites were identified using Google, 14 using Bing, and 3 using Yahoo while the remaining 19 appeared in multiple search engines. Sixty-nine percent of the websites (39/56) were written by physicians whereas only 21% (12/56) were associated with commercial bias. The mean quality and accuracy of the websites written above a seventh-grade level was statistically significantly higher than those at or below a seventh-grade level ( P = .01). The mean accuracy of websites written by physicians was not statistically different from those not written by physicians ( P = .055). Conclusion: The current study highlights the poor quality and accuracy of online information related to ankle sprains, especially those with commercial bias. Furthermore, although websites written by or under supervision of physicians were found to be of superior quality, a majority of sites were found to have an unacceptably high reading level. Level of Evidence: Level IV, case series.

Abstract:
Abstract During the previous years, the vehicle manufacturers have tried to equip their vehicles with as much technology as possible, making the driving experience for people easier than ever. Most of the modern vehicles come today with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) either for driving (E.g. Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning) or Parking (E.g. Rear Ultrasonic Sensors, Rear View Camera). Since the vehicle come equipped with more technology, a major task in developing vehicle remains the integration of these ADAS system in the vehicle context with the other components. Since most of the components cope with each other on the vehicle level, some technologies are more affected by other components – such as the case of an ultrasound vehicle scanning system (Blind Spot Warning) and the Exhaust line that emits ultrasounds from the exhaust muffler. The aim of this paper is to study the influence of the exhaust line ultrasounds (ultrasounds that are emitted by the engine cycle and filtered in the exhaust line of the vehicle) over the detection performance of the Blind Spot Warning Ultrasound system. Since vehicles are sold with a wide variety of powertrains, the solution presented took into account also these differences between powertrains equipped. In order to test the solution, mock-ups of the vehicle were made in order to proof the robustness of the method.

Abstract:
Abstract While the question of whether international criminal courts and tribunals (ICTs) ought to write historical narratives of armed conflicts is an old one, it has gained renewed relevance in the context of the recent turn to history in international criminal law and the minimal attention paid to historical context in the first judgment of the International Criminal Court. The ‘proper’ place of history-writing in international criminal adjudication remains controversial, and even though some judges have preferred to de-emphasize it, the fact remains that ICTs are epistemic engines, systematically and inevitably producing knowledge about the conflicts that come before them. This article develops a framework for analysing the historical knowledge generated by ICTs, namely, the ‘crime-driven lens’. It argues that this lens is characterized by two important constraints, one qualitative, relating to interpretation and the other quantitative, relating to scope, both of which may give rise to blind spots. In the final analysis, while the important contributions of ICTs to deepening understanding of the histories of armed conflicts should not be underestimated, the constraints of the ‘crime-driven lens’ and its blind spots have to be taken into account when assessing their historical legacies.

Abstract:
Analyses of lubricating oils from aircraft engines, gear boxes and other lubricated mechanisms have been routinely performed by the military since the 1960's. The monitoring of the wear metal concentrations in the oil can lead to an early detection of abnormal wear and, consequently, the prevention of a malfunction or a complete failure of the aircraft. At the present time, almost all the analysis programs use atomic emission (AES) and/or atomic absorption (AAS) spectroscopy to determine elemental concentrations in the oils (1). These types of analysis require the close support of a laboratory to minimize the delays in obtaining the results of the measurements. The AES and AAS methods are very inefficient for particles 3 - 6 μm in size and are essentially blind to particles larger than 6 - 10 μm (2,3).

Abstract:
A powerful engine of Information Acquisition (IA) that can automatically extract feature and discover knowledge from the real world environment is known as an Intelligent Information Acquisition, IIA. A typical class of such a system is called smart sensor web, e.g. a dynamical smart dust scattering over a field in a self-organization fashion, an electrical powerline serving the volume surveillance in the city public environment where the powerline plug output is the power source required for the operation of the sensors and the input to the powerline is the ecosystem-like communication sparse change signal without the address — a topic of previous paper in this journal. This is possible because IIA of SSW must satisfy 6 W knowing whom, where, when, how, why and what to do. In that sense it will also satisfy the new ad hoc Internet protocol which demands, besides security and authenticity, the privacy protection — a topic of this paper. Such an IIA can serve medical patients, bank customers, or any other Special Interest Groups (SIGs) who must communicate among themselves at the public channel but are not yet ready to share information with the public. Our design might ward off invasive search engine to protect the strict privacy which requires literally no involvement of any third party besides the sender and receiver. Thus, similar to classical postal system, we have adopted envelop wrapper, called digital watermark (DWM), to hide the address of SpatioTemporal Key (STK), so that we do not need to send the high-precision chaos initial value and Chaotic Neural Net (CNN) typing but only the binary "Address Initiation (AI)" listed inside a PC library routine shared by 2N members of SIGs (N>1). The address bits can be redundant in a distributed repetition in order to tolerate any channel noise, package loss, and JPEG-related image compression. Furthermore, the bits are hidden over almost infinitely long lexicographical text pixel sequence of video image frames as digital watermarks. For example, the simplest coded message is the output of "EXOR" operation between the computed STK and originally intended message. Especially, the self-inverse decoding enjoys the projection operator, a cycle two reduction EXOREXOR = I, that means the recovered message comes simply from an identical bits-parallel "EXOR" operation between received coded message and the receiver-on-site-derived STK. Our rigorous definition of privacy enjoys also reasonable security which can be measured in NSA exhausted search sense of a few days up to years of CPU time, and also the cost saving without relying on commercial security RSA codec.

Data visualization is developed from the need to display a vast quantity of information more transparently. Data visualization often incorporates important information that is not listed anywhere in the document and enables the reader to discover significant data and save it in longer-term memory. On the other hand, Internet search engines have difficulty processing data visualization and connecting visualization and the request submitted by the user. With the use of data visualization, all blind individuals and individuals with impaired vision are left out. This article utilizes machine learning to classify data visualizations into 10 classes. Tested model is trained four times on the dataset which is preprocessed through four stages. Achieved accuracy of 89 % is comparable to other methods’ results. It is showed that image processing can impact results, i.e. increasing or decreasing level of details in image impacts on average classification accuracy significantly.

Abstract:
Several methods for assessment of methodological quality in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been developed during the past few years. Factors associated with quality in laparoscopic surgery have not been defined till date. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between bibliometric and the methodological quality of laparoscopic RCTs. The PubMed search engine was queried to identify RCTs on minimally invasive surgery published in 2012 in the 10 highest impact factor surgery journals and the 5 highest impact factor laparoscopic journals. Eligible studies were blindly assessed by two independent investigators using the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) tool for RCTs. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify potential associations with methodological quality. A total of 114 relevant RCTs were identified. More than half of the trials were of high or acceptable quality. Half of the reports provided information on comparative demographic data and only 21% performed intention-to-treat analysis. RCTs with sample size of at least 60 patients presented higher methodological quality (p = 0.025). Upon multiple regression, reporting on preoperative care and the experience level of surgeons were independent factors of quality.

Abstract Introduction Despite an appreciable rise in sleep wellness and sleep medicine A.I. research publications, public data corpuses, institutional support, and health A.I. research funding opportunities, the availability of controlled-retrospective, hybrid-retrospective-prospective, and prospective-RCT quality clinical validation study evidence is limited with respect to their potential clinical impact. Furthermore, only a few practical examples of A.I. technologies are validated, in use today clinically, and widely adopted, to assist in sleep diagnoses and treatment. In this study, we contribute to this growing body of clinical A.I. validation evidence and experimental design methodologies with an interoperable A.I. scoring engine in Adult and Pediatric populations. Methods Stratified random sampling with proportionate allocation was applied to a database of N&gt;10,000 retrospective diagnostic clinical polysomnography (PSG), selected by evidence grading standards, with controls applied for OSA severity, diagnoses; sleep, psychiatric, neurologic, neurodevelopmental, cardiac, pulmonary, metabolic disorders, medications; benzodiazepines, antidepressants, stimulants, opiates, sleep aids, demographic groups of interest; sex, adult age, pediatric age, BMI, weight, height, and patient-reported sleepiness, to establish representative N=100 Adult and N=100 Pediatric samples. Double Blinded scoring was prospectively collected for each sample by 3 experienced RPSGT certified sleep technologists randomized from a pool of 9 scorers. Sensitivity (PA), Specificity (NA), Accuracy (OA), Kappa (K), and 95% Bootstrap CI’s are presented for sleep stages, OSA/CSA, hypopnea 3%/4%, arousals, limb movements, Cheyenne-Stokes respiration, periodic breathing, atrial fibrillation, and other events, and normative, mild, moderate, and severe OSA categories for global-AHI and REM-AHI. Results for Sleep Staging and OSA Severity Diagnostic Accuracy are summarized. Results A.I. scoring performance meet but in most cases exceeded initial clinical validation study (N=72 Adults, 2017) PA, NA, OA, K point-estimates and confidence-interval results for the 26 event types and 8 AHI-categories evaluated. The Adult sample showed 87%/94% Sensitivity/Specificity across all stages (Wake/N1/N2/N3/REM) and 94%/96% Sensitivity/Specificity for AHI&gt;=15. The Pediatric sample showed 87%/93% Sensitivity/Specificity staging, 89%/98% Sensitivity/Specificity AHI&gt;=15. Observed Accuracy was &gt;90% for Adults and Pediatrics all 26 events and 7 AHI-categories analyzed, except REM-AHI&gt;=5 (85%/82% Adults/Pediatrics). Conclusion We provide clinical validation evidence that demonstrates interoperable A.I. scoring performance in representative Adult and Pediatric patient clinical PSG samples when compared to prospective, double-blind scoring panel. Abstract:
3114 Background: The Response Algorithm for Drug positioning and Rescue (RADR) technology is Lantern Pharma's proprietary Artificial Intelligence (Al)-based machine learning approach for biomarker identification and patient stratification. RADR is a combination of three automated modules working sequentially to generate drug- and tumor type-specific gene signatures predictive of response. Methods: RADR integrates genomics, drug sensitivity and systems biology inputs with supervised machine learning strategies and generates gene expression-based responder/ non-responder profiles for specific tumor indications with high accuracy, in addition to identification of new correlations of genetic biomarkers with drug activity. Pre-treatment patient gene expression profiles along with corresponding treatment outcomes were used as algorithm inputs. Model training was typically performed using an initial set of genes derived from cancer cell line data when available, and further applied to patient data for model tuning, cross-validation and final gene signature development. Model testing and performance computation were carried out on patient records held out as blinded datasets. Response prediction accuracy and sensitivity were among the model performance metrics calculated. Results: On average, RADR achieved a response prediction accuracy of 80% during clinical validation. We present retrospective analyses performed as part of RADR validation using more than 10 independent datasets of patients from selected cancer types treated with approved drugs including chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy agents. For an instance, the application of the RADR program to a Paclitaxel trial in breast cancer patients could have potentially reduced the number of patients in the treatment arm from 92 unselected patients to 24 biomarker-selected patients to produce the same number of responders. Also, we cite published evidence correlating genes from RADR derived biomarkers with increased Paclitaxel sensitivity in breast cancer. Conclusions: The value of RADR platform architecture is derived from its validation through the analysis of about ~17 million oncology-specific clinical data points, and ~1000 patient records. By implementing unique biological, statistical and machine learning workflows, Lantern Pharma's RADR technology is capable of deriving robust biomarker panels for pre-selecting true responders for recruitment into clinical trials which may improve the success rate of oncology drug approvals.

Abstract:
The orbicularis oculi muscle is the sphincter muscle of the eyelids that blinks and closes the eyes. In this review, our aim was threefold: (1) to introduce the performance characteristics of blinking activity in young and older adults, (2) to discuss the influence of aging on the orbicularis oculi muscle in healthy adults, and (3) to provide information about the effect of facial exercise training on the orbicularis oculi muscle. To achieve the purpose of this review, a search using two electronic databases (PubMed and Scopus) and a search engine (Google Scholar) was conducted. The amplitude and peak velocity of spontaneously blinking behavior, which is an index of muscle function of the orbicularis oculi, appear to be affected by aging. The muscle thickness of the orbicularis oculi tends to be low in older adults, but there are issues that need to be examined further, such as differences in sex and measurement positions. There was no study on the effect of exercise training; however, the results of a highly trained man indicate that the orbicularis oculi muscles might elicit muscle hypertrophy through non-traditional resistance exercise.

Learning Management System (LMS) is a type of an e-learning system is one of the main infrastructural requirements that improves access to higher education for persons with disabilities. The primary aim of the research study[1] was to explore perceptions of students with disabilities regarding the use and accessibility of learning management systems and benefits and/or barriers in e-learning. Students mainly have negative experiences while attempting to enter university web-sites/libraries/LMSs because of the inadequate adaptation to the specific needs of students with disabilities. In countries that do not have a developed LMS, the prevalent mean of communication with professors is via e-mail, in those where there is a LMS, there is not a fully accessibility of entire content and services for students with special needs. This research defined the need for creation of an accessible LMS or adjusted already existing LMS with accessibility solutions such as: a text-to-speech engine for blind students, a mode with sign language support for deaf students and a mode which supports dyslexic.
