The direct loans, covering both single-word loans and phrasal loans, were collected from nine blogs at three points in time: 2000, 2004 and 2008. This study is about English borrowings and code-switching in advertisements in the two Swedish lifestyle magazines Amelia and King. The investigation shows that recent English borrowings were found in 41% of the advertisements in Amelia and in 10% of the advertisements in King. English intra-sentential code-switching appeared in 27% of the advertisements in Amelia but in only 8% in King. The present study deals with the translation of a text about tourism and gastronomy. The analysis focuses on the translation of cultural words and terminology. The aim of the study was to analyse the translation problems that may arise in an academic text dealing with tourism and gastronomy, and see what strategies are usable to handle these problems. The translation strategies that are used in the analysis are Vinay &amp; Darbelnet’s (2008) and Newmark’s (1988). A number of different translation problems were addressed, for instance how to deal with borrowings and with cultural adaptations.

La présente thèse consiste en une étude en diachronie de la terminologie du prêt-à-porter féminin dans des catalogues français de vente par correspondance depuis l’introduction du concept en France au début des années 1950. The aim of this study is to present how English borrowings (loanwords and phrases) are integrated into Swedish grammar and spelling rules. The hypothesis is that borrowings appearing in the unchanged form in Swedish occur much more frequently in internet forums than in press. The study is based on the analysis of a material consisting of around 70 English borrowings found in different entries from one of the largest Swedish online discussion forums, flashback.org.
