Multi-media approach is the trend of future foreign language teaching. In the multi-media environment the college teachers studying mutual teaching approach in teaching college English will find there are many kinds of mutual forms: one to one; one to many; many to many. In addition, the mutual model may be used at different time. In mutual teaching model of mass media, the student will find himself an active learner, the center of academic activities, a participant in language communications and a sharer of information sources. On the other hand, the teacher will find himself a promoter of teaching activities, a participant in language communications, and a helper in assisting students in their English. Abstract:
It is estimated that in a few years, 1.5 billion people – a quarter of the total world population – will speak English. And majority will speak a second or third language (only for 400000000 English becomes in their native language). Three quarters of world correspondence and 80 % of e-mail on the Internet are now in English. However, the study of one language does not take place at the expense of another national, regional or minority language, which are equally important in the conditions of development and enrichment. The article highlights the peculiarities of introducing language policy trends of the European Union and the Council of Europe in globalization context at maintaining and protecting European linguistic diversity, not only acquiring the English language as linguafranca in international communication. The Council of Europe and the European Union emphasize the importance of linguistic diversity and plurilingual skills at all levels of education, and the mass media should be the source of informal language learning via entertaining and educational programs and movies with subtitles. The media are important for shaping people's attitudes towards other languages and cultures. The documents of the European Union and the Council of Europe determine that the media should provide people who do not speak many languages with newtechnologies and translation. In a globalized world, cultural diversity will become even more important as means of preserving human values. Learning a language means learning how to get closer to others. Learning a foreign language means equipping oneself with intellectual means to meet the real and the unknown, personal enrichment for knowing other cultures and their worldview. Therefore, the fundamental principles of the European Union and the Council of Europe in the field of language policy are the preservation and protection of European diversity, which should lead not only to the acquisition of English, but also to other European and world languages by all the inhabitants of Europe, simultaneously studying different regional languages.

Abstract:
English is a global language, and the fact has been reiterated by various studies conducted both in native and non-native countries. In India, English, since the British era, has dominated the domains of administration, business, higher education, science and technology and mass media. Post-Independence the visibility and functionality of English increased manifold. English is everywhere on the streets: from billboards to hoardings, from advertisements to road signs, English is omnipresent. Even for petty official works in places such as banks, post offices, hospitals, railway stations, bus depots, schools and colleges, English becomes indispensable.

Abstract:
<p><em>This research is motivated by the problem of penetration of foreign language in urban society. The mindset of English usage in urban society is symbolically represented that foreign languages must be mastered and used in daily life. It becomes a new outbreak of modern life that slowly puts foreign languages, especially English in a higher position than Indonesian language. The English usage as the primary language is considered to symbolize prestige and promise a better position and socioeconomic standard. Therefore, this study aims to describe the mindset of urban society about the English usage in Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi). This is a descriptive qualitative research, the instrument in collecting data in the field is conducted through in-depth interview and observation. Meanwhile, the secondary data obtained through literature research related to the research topics. The results shows that the English usage has become the social behavior of urban society in Jabodetabek. English usage represents some symbols, ie. higher educational status, upper middle social class, and modern and classy lifestyle. This causes English is superior to Indonesian as a national language. This reality becomes an early indication of the weakening of the Indonesian language in the public sphere (Government, Corporation, Education, and Mass Media). Slowly but surely English becomes the symbol of prima donna language among urban society in Jabodetabek.</em></p>

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the linguoculturological analysis of the naming units of the distance learning process in Russian and English mass media texts. It is aimed at identifying universal and specific features of the naming units of the given fragment of the linguistic view of the world of Russian and English speakers. The COVID-19 pandemic shocked all the spheres of society, including education. Mass media actively covered the problems of education, distance learning in particular, using an extensive repertoire of naming units for this phenomenon. The analysis of mass media texts (57 articles from 10 newspapers in Russia, Great Britain and the USA) makes it possible to observe the dynamics of language changes. There are 31 options revealed for naming the process of distance learning in Russian texts, the most common among them are дистанционное обучение (distance learning), онлайн-обучение (online learning) and дистанционное образование (distance education). The study of English texts made it possible to reveal 21 names of the distance learning process, the most frequent ones are online learning, remote learning and distance learning. The choice of certain lexical units for naming the distance learning process is conditioned by extralinguistic factors which are reflected in the language. The study proves the significant scientific potential of naming units representing the process of distance learning.

Abstract:
In this article the situation of Afrikaans literature in an officially English monolingual South Africa is discussed. The growth and decline of languages are influenced by so many factors and processes that it is impossible to predict precisely how loss of official status and the concomitant loss of important legal and conventional language rights presently enjoyed by Afrikaans speakers would affect Afrikaans. Nevertheless it is certain that at least three areas will be affected. Firstly, loss of recognition and the anglicization of tertiary education will bring about a decline in Afrikaans as a scientific language, resulting in a loss in diversity and the decay of certain registers. The anglicization of the electronic mass media will deprive Afrikaans of a crucial function of a modem language - serving its community as the medium of information and recreation. Vie role of radio and TV in providing an example of standard language use will disappear Secondly, with English the sole official language, it is very probable that a language shift from Afrikaans will take place, a major catastrophe for any language. A dwindling body of readers affects any literature or publishing industry directly. Thirdly: loss of status will have economic repercussions, making it increasingly difficult for the Afrikaans community to buy and for publishers to produce books.

Abstract:
This study aims to understand Japanese university students’ perceptions of foreign English teachers (FETs) through a two-phased exploratory sequential mixed-methods design. During the initial phase, a quantitative survey was performed with first and second-year Japanese university students (n=377). Despite a lack of precision and a high dispersion measure, the Quantitative data analysis revealed certain outliers. A significant number of participants viewed their FETs as more of an entertainer, preferred FETs of American/European heritage, and believed FETs of Asian descent may not be able to teach the language and culture as effectively as FETs of American/European heritage. Thus, a qualitative inquiry was performed to explain and build upon the quantitative findings. Two focus groups with students from the quantitative survey were given interviews. The responses confirmed the existence of phenotypical, gender, and personality FET stereotypes in Japanese university EFL classes. In addition, past educational experiences, socio-cultural factors, and mass media were also found influential in students’ perceptions of FETs. Based on the findings from the focus group interviews, the researchers propose intercultural activities as an effective pedagogical strategy to promote reflective teaching practices and intercultural competence in Japanese university EFL classes.

Abstract:
Although there are several approaches and strategies for teaching foreign languages, the Total Physical Response (TPR) approach is the most suitable for young learners. TPR is a way of teaching language that is based on the synchronization of speech and behaviour, or in other words, teaching language through movement. This study aims to develop English learning media for children through the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. This study uses a Research and Development (R & D) approach. The development model used is the ADDIE development model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Data collection techniques in this study were based on the results of expert validation tests, media practicality tests, and media effectiveness tests on children aged 5-6 years in Kindergarten. The results showed that the validity test of developing interactive media for children's English learning through the TPR method by media expert was declared valid with the result of 93%. The validity test on the material aspect shows the result is 98%. In the language aspect, the language expert gave the results of the feasibility of the language used in the media with a value of 96%. Likewise, with the practicality test, the results showed that the media had an average value of practicality with a percentage of 94%. The most important result in media development is determined by the results of the effectiveness test, and this media gets an average percentage score of 77.8% on the media tested on children. Therefore, interactive media for children's English learning through the Total Physical Response method deserves to be used as interactive and quality learning media that is practical and effective for early childhood. Intervention in introducing how to develop interactive media for learning English to teachers can be carried out in further research.

Abstract In planning education strategies in the field of logistics and SCM, external factors evaluation approach can be implemented. This study proposes the approach of mass media sources and latest news as a basis for determining external factors, as a result, the formulation obtained is newest and more contextual. Those external factors then are going to be analyzed to formulate a strategy that is suitable for logistics education. The strategy emerges into several main things; although it is not time to lead fully to Industry 4.0, the Education curriculum should include knowledge that is aligned and supports the knowledge, Soft Skills that needed to be in logistics and supply chain education are English language skills and the ability to search for data. Object of the research in terms of logistics education which currently growing interests are namely logistics and SCM marine, e-commerce and international zones. Graduates need to be equipped with the ability to do business process efficiently and digitize all business processes.

Abstract:
Introduction. The training of high-level specialists requires the active introduction of pedagogical technologies into the educational system of higher education that contribute to the development of higher-order thinking. In addition, the development and testing of technologies for the development of critical thinking in higher education in Russia encounter significant difficulties. The purpose of this study is to substantiate the need for and the possibility of developing critical thinking when teaching a foreign language at a university, in particular, within the framework of the interdisciplinary course “Media Literacy”. Materials and methods. The methodological basis of the study is a competency-based approach to teaching a foreign language based on the technology of critical thinking through reading and writing. The main research methods are the analysis of the scientific literature of Russian and foreign scientists on the problem, diagnostic techniques (questionnaires, observation), and Lauren Starkey’s critical thinking test. Experimental research, consisting of setting, ascertaining, training, and control stages, was carried out in the Petrozavodsk State University in 2016–2019. It was attended by 260 first- and fourth-year undergraduate students of non-linguistic fields of study. For a comparative analysis of the data obtained in different groups of subjects, the Wilcoxon statistical test was used for related samples. Results. During the study, the author’s training course “Media Literacy. Analyzing Mass Media in English” and the learning kit “Mass Media” in 3 parts were developed and tested. The comparative analysis of the data obtained before and after training revealed significant dynamics in the experimental group (Z=-5.07; p≤0.001), and moderate dynamics in the control group (Z=-2.34; p≤0.05). On the final cut, the experimental group demonstrated a significantly higher level of critical thinking (at the 0.1% significance level) than in the control group, with the mean values of the integral indicator being 25.17 and 19.96 points, respectively. Conclusions. The research results confirm the hypothesis about the possibility of forming a universal competency “critical thinking” by taking the course “Media Literacy” in a foreign language. The developed training course is interdisciplinary and can be used in different fields of study for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Abstract:
Language is a social phenomenon that exists in human society. Any language the Society performs communicative (means of communication), expressive (means of revealing thoughts), constructive (means of thinking), accumulative (skills acquired from experience and knowledge), cumulative (accumulation), transformative (transfer), etc. These are the main functions of the language, which are inherent in different levels of development at different stages and are innate components that do not change in their own system. In addition, the social functions of the language are a reflection of the use and use of the same basic functions of the language in different social environments, spheres of public life, and in different purposes and situations. The factors influencing the formation of the public environment in the Kazakh language are the system of Education, Culture, mass media, departments and departments of language development in each institution that monitor the conduct of office work in the state language, etc. institutions and public organizations, as well as the state authorities themselves. At the same time, the problem of the language situation in modern Kazakhstan is reflected in the address of the head of State N.A. Nazarbayev “New Kazakhstan in the new world” in 2009, where in order to ensure the competitiveness of the country and its citizens, it is proposed to gradually implement the cultural project “trinity of languages” in accordance with the need to develop trilingualism, i.e. Kazakh as the state language, Russian as the language of International Communication, and English as the language of successful integration into the global economy. In this regard, a number of scientific studies are currently underway to study and analyze the social problems of the Kazakh language. In terms of the language reform associated with the transition to a new alphabet in Kazakhstan, it is particularly relevant to republishing and defining the viable parameters of the language.

Abstract:
Background: Cancer presents an increasing burden for Asian countries and cancer-related deaths have been predicted to increase from 4.1 million in 2008 to 7.5 million in 2030 in Asia. Low-middle income countries are recommended to prioritize public education as a first step toward cancer prevention and early detection. Mass media campaigns have been found to be effective in increasing cancer awareness and screening uptake in western countries as well as cost-effective in reducing morbidity and mortality. A number of studies have used mass and or small media components in Asian countries. Aim: This systematic review aims to deliver an overview of small and mass media campaigns in Asia and to assess their effectiveness in improving cancer awareness. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Gray literature and Google Scholar for relevant literature. Furthermore, we hand-search reference lists of relevant reviews and studies and run a search in relevant journals individually. Peer-reviewed studies that were published in the English language before September 2017 and targeted adults aged 18 year or over in Asia, were included. We excluded studies targeting minority populations living abroad as well as studies that included individual or group components in addition to the media components. Results: The search identified 10,676 titles after removal of duplicates. A total of 479 titles were included in the abstract screen and 51 articles were included in the full-text screen. The full-text screen is currently ongoing and the results will be presented at the conference. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review summarizing the effectiveness of media campaigns to improve cancer awareness in Asia. The full results of the systematic review will be valuable to inform future mass and small media campaigns in Asian countries.

Abstract:
Introduction:Over the last two decades, Frequency Modulation (FM) radio has been established as the only form of sound broadcasting in Ghana. Radio is the most accessible of mass media. There are more than 40 operational radio stations in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Most stations are commercial, broadcasting in the local language (Asante-Twi). Many urban radio health slots discuss various diseases and their treatments mainly for the benefit of patients. Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioners who are able to pay for airtime dominate as ‘experts’ in most of these shows. Methods:We identified an IEC gap regarding policies governing healthcare delivery, healthcare financing, training, ethics and research, and environmental issues. In June 2015, orthodox medical practitioners collaborated with a private, local, English-speaking radio station to produce and host a weekly health show whose content was aimed at holistically discussing health from the viewpoint of practitioners, clients, policy makers, administrators, and financiers in a simplified language for the general public, including healthcare trainees.Discussion:The show dubbed “Staying Alive” first aired on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 20:00 GMT and continues to air to date, appealing to a wide range of active listeners. “Staying Alive” to the best of our knowledge remains the only show with a holistic approach to health. Over the last 23 months, we have experienced challenges in sustaining sponsorship to fund the cost of production and airtime for the show, and the cost of effectively assessing the public health impact of the show. Orthodox medical practitioners can employ mass radio as an effective tool for advocacy, information dissemination, and education of clients or health trainees in low or middle-income urban settings through effective collaboration with media stations.

Abstract:
The era of audiovisual culture began more than a hundred years ago with the advent of cinema, and is associated with a special language that underlies non-verbal communication processes. Today, screen influence on humans is dominant, as the generation for which computer is an integral part of everyday life has grown. In recent years, non-verbal language around the world has been a major tool in the fight for influence over human consciousness and intelligence. Formation of basic concepts of media education, which later developed into an international pedagogical movement, in a number of western countries (Great Britain, France, Germany) began in the 60’s and 70’s of the XX century. In Canada, as in most highly developed countries (USA, UK, France, Australia), the history of media education began to emerge from cinematographic material. The concept of screen education was formed by the British Society for Education in Film (SEFT), initiated by a group of enthusiastic educators in 1950. In the second half of the twentieth century, due to the intensive development of television, the initial term “film teaching” was transformed into “screen education”. The high intensity of students’ contact with new audiovisual media has become a subject of pedagogical excitement. There was a problem adjusting your children’s audience and media. The most progressive Canadian educators, who have recognized the futility of trying to differentiate students from the growing impact of TV and cinema, have begun introducing a special course in Screen Arts. The use of teachers of the rich potential of new audiovisual media has greatly optimized the learning process itself, the use of films in the classroom has become increasingly motivated. At the end of 1968, an assistant position was created at the Ontario Department of Education, which coordinated work in the “onscreen education” field. It is worth noting that media education in Canada developed under the influence of English media pedagogy. The first developments in the study of “screen education” were proposed in 1968 by British Professor A. Hodgkinson. Canadian institutions are actively implementing media education programs, as the development of e-learning is linked to the hope of solving a number of socio-economic problems. In particular, raising the general education level of the population, expanding access to higher levels of education, meeting the needs for higher education, organizing regular training of specialists in various fields. After all, on the way of building an e-learning system, countries need to solve a set of complex technological problems to ensure the functioning of an extensive network of training centers, quality control of the educational process, training of teaching staff and other problems. Today, it is safe to say that Canada’s media education is on the rise and occupies a leading position in the world. Thus, at the beginning of the 21st century, Canada’s media education reached a level of mass development, based on serious theoretical and methodological developments. Moreover, Canada remains the world leader in higher education and spends at least $ 25 billion on its universities annually. Only the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia are the biggest competitors in this area.

Abstract:
Children's traditional creativity as an inexhaustible inspiration, but also an alternative form of musical education, represents the biological human need. It is also an "extraordinary means of stimulating intelligence and a way of connecting and bonding people of the world" (Habermeyer, 2001). Our region features a large number of songs for pre-school children, as well as a large number of rhythmic games, which also belong to the field of physical and musical education, as well as domains of learning traditional games. More and more research suggests that children "possess the least knowledge of rhythmic games in general" (Dopudja, 1977). Although there has always existed a tradition of nurturing traditional games / dances that have been transferred to younger generations, both within families and in institutions for pre-school children, it can also be transferred through a well-organized and planned regional tourist offer if its contents are adapted and presented in one of the world languages. Every country in which tourism is one of the most important branches of the economy, naturally turns to its own traditional values and potentials. Furthermore, folklore heritage has proven to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration for both artists and lay people. One should bear in mind the important fact that tourism can be defined as "a correlation of services and other benefits used by tourists created from the need for temporary displacement of people. Having in mind the distinctiveness of tourism from the aspect of its heterogeneity, where the tourist aggregate is constituted of important elements" (Cuervo S. 1967) which also include folklore art as well as various forms of entertainment and leisure time (Stavric, Baros, 2005). If we are familiar with the fact that children primarily learn by listening, watching, doing or their combination, then it is clear that children's folk art and movement rhythmic games, music and art combine these three ways of learning, and at the same time, enhance the development of intelligence in children. All the elements, as well as the inevitable factors that accompany children's folk art, influence the psychophysical, intellectual and emotional development of a child (Planjanin-Simic, 2016). Such potentially offered cultural and educational content certainly leads to better understanding among people from different countries and regions. On the other hand, today, the English language has indubitably become the language of world communication, a contemporary “lingua franca”. What is more, the English language entered almost all spheres of life: music, entertainment, mass media, traveling, tourism... To that note, with the intention of bringing people who speak different languages closer together, this paper will offer the English translation of famous children folk songs, games and dances from our region, especially Montenegrin traditional rhythmic games, with the aim to present regional culture to foreigners and transcendent the language barrier.

Abstract:
Summary Background/Aim: Myths related to oral diseases and oral health-related practices are very common among the population. Inadequate knowledge along with the persisting myths regarding the etiology, course and outcome of oral diseases makes it difficult to initiate health behavioural changes. Present study scrutinizes various myths and misconceptions regarding oral health among the outpatients. The aim of this study was to assess myths and misconceptions about oral health and imparting education regarding the same. Material and Methods: The calculated sample size was 200. A pre –tested closed ended questionnaire was prepared in both English and local language (Kannada). It comprised of four sections with 24 questions. The Content validity index value of 0.9 suggested a good validity. A Chi square test was applied and significance level was fixed at p< 0.05. Results: We had 100% response rate. In our study half of the participants visited dental hospital for the very first time (57.5%). About 45.2% of subjects believed 3rd molar eruption is the sign of intelligence, while 64.8% had a notion that all dental procedures are painful. Conclusions: Myths and misconceptions related to oral health are still prevalent among the population. However, small steps like compulsory education about oral health in the school curriculum, available and affordable oral care also effective use of mass media could be the steps to reduce oral health burden to the society.

Abstract:
Introduction. The present paper aims at revealing and describing the linguistic means of creating the inventor’s image in the English language science popular discourse. The study also describes the use of image creation strategy and solidarity strategy. The relevance of the research is defined, firstly, by unconditional and ever-increasing public interest in scientific knowledge in the era of technological progress. Secondly, regarding the obvious importance of the human factor in the presentation of an invention from the creator’s point of view makes it possible for the mass reader to interpret the science news in various ways and see the modern inventor’s most typical features. Thus, analyzing the specific representation of the invention in popular science media texts the authors offer their own original conception of a modern innovator, which defines the novelty of the study. Special attention is focused on credibility and competitive nature of science popular discourse which are its integrative features.Methodology and sources. The research is based on the English language sciencepopular media texts – Popular Mechanics, Mit News Education, Science Daily, Interesting Engineering, SciTechDaily. For the selection of technically-focused media texts the continuously sampling method was used. The general methodology of studying image creation strategy and solidarity strategy also includes the method of semantic analysis, the method of semantic-stylistic analysis, elements of communicative-pragmatic analysis and the method of contextual analysis. Results and discussion. Image creation strategy and solidarity strategy are implemented in science popular discourse mainly on lexical and syntactic levels and imply the use of stylistic devices. Each of the strategies mentioned above matches a certain type of science popularized texts about inventions and discoveries. The first type is about the selfpresentation of the innovator, and has its own linguistic features. The second type includes the description of an invention from the position of scientific community. The significant result of the study is the conclusion about the diverse nature of the inventor’s media image.Conclusion. The study of the linguistic specific of the inventor’s image allows a deeper understanding of the anthropocentric nature of an invention itself. The last one is inseparable from its creator being the result of scientific activity and professional ambitions, as well as the personal growth condition. The chosen methodology can be applied for further research and to similar studies of the creator and his creation based on texts of different profile.

Abstract:
ObjectiveHuman-stampede events are emerging epidemics with large unplanned or impromptu mass gatherings. They are increasing in frequency worldwide, yet little is known of the epidemiology and other characteristics that would allow for communities to prepare, prevent and properly manage medical outcomes. We report a non-traditional methodology to identify a stampede's epidemiological characteristics using news reports, social networking, and systematic search of the internet. This hitherto unused technological dimension is a useful adjunct to obtain crucial data on mortality and morbidity, improve immediate understanding of the pathophysiology of the event, and provides opportunities to develop public education to remove potential bottlenecks and improve crowd control of these preventable tragedies.MethodA LexisNexis search was followed by sequential searches of multiple internet-based English-language news agencies and the few research reports available in the scientific literature. Date, country, geographical region, time of occurrence, type of event, location, mechanism, number of participants, number injured, and number of deaths were recorded. Descriptive analysis was performed for deaths, injuries and location for this abstract.ResultsFollowing an extensive search of media accounts and research reports, a total of 263 human stampede events were identified worldwide between 1980 and 2011 resulting in 8,268 deaths and over 16,707 injuries. Major Religious assemblages, particularly in India and the Middle East, accounted for the highest number of fatalities. Precipitants of stampedes follow a geographical pattern; In Africa, sporting and political events and in Europe, entertainment venues sparked stampedes. This case series reports 7 incidents in China. All cases occurred in the recess hour of schools, when students formed a bottleneck at narrow staircases, resulting in 27 deaths and 168 injured.ConclusionUnderstanding the triggers in mass gatherings for a human stampede have been greatly aided by advances in social networking, internet and video mobile phones. Particularly in difficult environments which were previously difficult to document. The patterns identified in this study can appreciably add to community level preparedness, prevention and improved clinical understanding and management at prehospital and hospital levels.

ObjectivesTo identify the determinants of antenatal care (ANC) utilisation in sub-Saharan Africa.DesignSystematic review.Data sourcesDatabases searched were PubMed, OVID, EMBASE, CINAHL and Web of Science.Eligibility criteriaPrimary studies reporting on determinants of ANC utilisation following multivariate analysis, conducted in sub-Saharan Africa and published in English language between 2008 and 2018.Data extraction and synthesisA data extraction form was used to extract the following information: name of first author, year of publication, study location, study design, study subjects, sample size and determinants. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist for reporting a systematic review or meta-analysis protocol was used to guide the screening and eligibility of the studies. The Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-Sectional Studies was used to assess the quality of the studies while the Andersen framework was used to report findings.Results74 studies that met the inclusion criteria were fully assessed. Most studies identified socioeconomic status, urban residence, older/increasing age, low parity, being educated and having an educated partner, being employed, being married and Christian religion as predictors of ANC attendance and timeliness. Awareness of danger signs, timing and adequate number of antenatal visits, exposure to mass media and good attitude towards ANC utilisation made attendance and initiation of ANC in first trimester more likely. Having an unplanned pregnancy, previous pregnancy complications, poor autonomy, lack of husband’s support, increased distance to health facility, not having health insurance and high cost of services negatively impacted the overall uptake, timing and frequency of antenatal visits.ConclusionA variety of predisposing, enabling and need factors affect ANC utilisation in sub-Saharan Africa. Intersectoral collaboration to promote female education and empowerment, improve geographical access and strengthened implementation of ANC policies with active community participation are recommended.

Abstract:
The current issue of information access for different nations within one state is examined. The media of Quebec, the only francophone province of Canada, give us a clear example. However, Russian scholars almost disregard this domain. Therefore, the research is based on the Canadian works (M. Brunet, A. Beaulieu and J. Hamelin, W.H. Kesterton) in French and in English. The Royal Commission on Newspapers Report (1981), which described two separate media systems (French media and English media), was used as well. The focus is on the Franco-Canadian national problem and its influence on Quebec media historic evolution. This process moves from bilingual editions (two first newspapers were published in French and in English simultaneously) to modern monolingual media system. Through comparative analysis, the relationship between media bilingualism and media monolingualism in Quebec of 18-21st centuries is examined. Quebecs modern information politics can be defined as media regionalism (French language and specific Quebec content). Media regionalisms object is to resist federal doctrine one country - one nation with two languages, the base of Official Language Act (1969). As a result, the absence of traditional federal official media bilingualism in Quebec, which tries to save its national heritage by media regionalism, was discovered.

Abstract:
The multidimensionality of rumours as part and parcel of mass communication has stipulated the research in their linguistic nature. The present paper studies this specific communication phenomenon and the discursive practices by means of which it is realized across the Anglophone mass media discourse continuum. The theory of discourse-analysis underpinning the present paper predetermines an integrative approach with various methods employed. This approach makes it possible to gain an insight into the complex nature of the object under study. The research is targeted at media rumours, namely celebrity gossip, manifested in on-line versions of the printed press and original web outlets in 2015-2018. The main goal of the research is to reveal specific features of media rumors as a speech genre in the Anglophone media communication. Celebrity gossip texts make up the empiric material for the present study. This aim is achieved via the description of the content and form of the text-type structure supplemented by an application of stylistic analysis. In terms of the topics, the findings demonstrate a wide variety of topoi comprising both public (social interactions) and private spheres of celebrities’ life with an emphasis on privacy, sensationalism and scandalous impropriety as dominant discursive characteristics of the text-type samples under study. The structure of the celebrity gossip discourse is represented by texts in different journalistic forms: from informative genres to feature type variations used by authors as means of constructing celebrity culture. The information of trivial content and questionable validity because of its unverified character is disguised as reports of high testimonial trustworthiness and epistemic value with the help of a variety of language and textual resources. The results of the study enable us to argue that within the mass media communication there exists a specific discourse which is hybrid by nature and non-evidential by verification.

Abstract:
Reporting information by mass media reflects the current state of public and state systems and relations between them. Since modern Western media are sponsored and controlled by large political parties, associations and corporations, and the authors of texts and messages act as conductors of the ideology of these organizations, in modern media texts a purely informative function (impartial news reporting) is increasingly combined with the intention of influencing the audience with the goal of using both purely linguistic and some extra-linguistic means ‒ to form in the addressee’s mind a certain picture of the modern world, at the behest of the ruling elites. In this light, knowledge of socio-political terminology (SPT), as well as of scientific, technical and humanitarian terms, which inevitably penetrate the media, provided that these terms acquire the status of social or political significance, is of particular importance for translators. On becoming generally known, the terms of various branches of scientific knowledge form, within SPT, special microfields which embrace the concepts of statehood, authorities and public order, administrative-territorial structure of the country, its social structure, systems of party and public associations, organizations; cultural life of society; rights and obligations of society members, international relations, institutions, state associations, their political systems, etc. Translators who track and assimilate the vocabulary of these microfields on a regular basis find it much easier to cope with the translation of pertinent texts. In this article particular attention is paid to the English-language newspaper information style: the headlines of publications, lexical and syntactic features of media texts, the modern tendency of mixing the official style with the colloquial one, means of achieving imagery, etc. The article notes an increasing use of evaluative and expressive vocabulary for certain pragmatic purposes. It also emphasizes that for the successful conduct of interpreting activities, translators need to pay special attention to the assimilation and knowledgeable acquisition of set expressions, clichés, their translation equivalents and analogues ‒ all to the point of automaticity.

AbstractReaders of Croatian daily newspapers and news websites are very frequently faced with Croatian phrases which have been modelled on English templates by literal, word-for-word translation, a phenomenon known ascalque. This research shows that even highly proficient Croatian speakers of English as a second language (L2) are sometimes not able to fully understand the calques used in Croatian mass media unless they are familiar with the meaning of their source template in English. The research is done by way of an experiment built inPsychoPy(Pierce, 2007). The implications of this research could be of special interest to persons involved in designing media texts, professional and student translators, as well as to mass media consumers.

Abstract:
Abstract Across most predominantly English-speaking countries, classroom-based language education plays an important role in the internationalization of young citizens. However, the quality of language learning opportunities in many countries is less than ideal. The development of language education policy is influenced in part by broader societal perceptions of language, and these perceptions are often reflected and shaped by the media. The case of Australia is an interesting one for focus, because media and policy attention to the discipline is high, and yet to date there has been no comprehensive analysis of its representation. To fill this gap, the authors subject 261 news articles from Australian newspapers between 2007 and 2016 to mixed-methods content analysis, guided by Ruiz’s three orientations to language. The results show that language is positioned as a problem, and as an economic resource, but not as a social resource, nor as a right of everyday citizens. The ideological positioning of language in the press has implications for the perceptions of the role of language education, and for student uptake.

Abstract:
The last few years have seen a boom in the publication of teen fiction in Indonesia. Particularly since the publication of the highly successful novel Eiffel ... I’m in love (Arunita 2001), numerous fiction works targeted at a youthful readership have appeared. This genre of popular literature has been so successful in attracting its audience that it currently constitutes the largest growing market in the Indonesian publishing industry (Simamora 2005). One of its striking characteristics is the predominant use of colloquial Indonesian, an informal variety of Indonesian that is closely identified with speakers from the capital Jakarta, particularly young people. Over a decade ago, scholars noted the increasing use of colloquial Indonesian in popular literature (see for example Adelaar and Prentice 1996:678). The implication is that this language variety has spread into domains previously dominated by standard Indonesian, the formal variety used in government administration, formal education, and most printed mass media. Indeed, contemporary Indonesian written literature is largely associated with standard Indonesian, such that the increasing use of colloquial Indonesian in popular literature has invited much criticism from language gatekeepers. Despite such criticism, however, teen fiction continues to flourish. The increasing use of colloquial Indonesian in teen fiction, though noted by scholars, has not been subject to any detailed linguistic study. Linguistic studies of colloquial Indonesian – at least those published in English – have focused so far on its use in speech, or in written texts intended to resemble speech, such as internet chatting and advice columns for young people. Prior to the recent surge in teen fiction, use of colloquial Indonesian in contemporary written literature was largely limited to dialogues. Writers such as Putu Wijaya, for example, are known to incorporate colloquialism to render dialogues more natural (Rafferty 1990:107). Teen fiction writers have extended the use of colloquialism into other parts of fiction such as the description of characters, settings, and inner thoughts. This development makes it interesting to look for a way to describe the increase of colloquialism. A useful approach is to examine the usage patterns of a term or a selection of terms in a number of teen fiction works published over time, with the purpose of observing changes in the patterns, and whether such changes can be shown to represent greater colloquialism. This study is a preliminary attempt in that direction. My purpose here is to demonstrate that in the last two decades during which colloquial Indonesian has been employed in teen fiction, there has been a shift in writing style from one that bears greater resemblance to standard Indonesian towards a style that is more colloquial. The term ‘style’ is commonly employed in sociolinguistics to refer to ways of speaking, which Bell (2001:139) defines in terms of the question ‘Why did the speaker say it this way on this occasion?’ (italics in original). Adapting this definition for teen fiction writing, I use ‘writing style’ here to refer to the characteristic manner in which an author writes fiction. This style is observed here by examining the use of the preposition pada ‘to, towards, on, in, at’ as compared to the use of three other prepositions, namely kepada ‘to, towards’, ke ‘to, towards’, and sama ‘to, towards, by, with’. The development towards increased colloquialism is shown through two indicators: a reduction in the range of prepositional meanings of pada along with the assignment of particular discourse functions to kepada, and an increased use of ke and sama. The data are drawn from ten works of fiction published between 1998 and 2005. Eight of these are written by the same author, Hilman. In four of them, Hilman collaborates with fellow writer Boim Lebon. The other two works are by Laire Siwi Mentari and Marthino Andries. This selection is motivated by the following considerations. Hilman’s works have been highly and consistently popular since his first publication appeared in 1986. They span two decades and therefore provide an appropriate time span for examining shifts in writing style. Laire Siwi Mentari and Marthino Andries are also successful writers; their first novels were published in 2004, followed by their second novels in 2005. This study makes use of their second novels.

Abstract:
Tourism is one of the sectors of the economy that is most dependent on climate, creating multiple vulnerabilities and new opportunities arising with changing climate. Even though the links between tourism and climate have been well researched, this scientific knowledge has not percolated into policies and the ability to act. This disconnect between scientific knowledge and practices is frequently blamed on inadequate climate change communication to the public in mass media. We studied the mass media framing of climate change and tourism by analyzing English newspaper publications worldwide over the past 30 years. The paper presents a Big Data analysis of the content, geographical patterns, and temporal changes in newspapers’ publications on climate change and tourism.

The research considers the study of the media texts devoted to the topic of burning political-military conflict issues as exemplified in the UK and the US quality and popular press. The clarification of the term ‘conflict’ employed in this study is given. The importance of the opposition ‘we-they’ while describing any conflict is underlined. It is highlighted that the above mentioned category is realized on various language levels, namely, those of lexical, morphological, and syntactic ones. The conclusion is drawn that one of the means for the introduction of an evaluation meaning into a media text is quantification of evaluation frames.

Abstract:
This article studies expressive syntax as a type of stylistic devices and illustrates its use in publicistic style economic oral and written media reports. The relevance of the research is that syntactic expressive means have not been thoroughly studied and analyzed in economic mass media. The work aims to identify the techniques that apply syntactic expressive means to evoke emotiveness in economic media reports. This article also addresses the recurrence of usage of expressive syntax in written and oral speech involving economic discourse. Using the method of text analysis on the bases of theoretical linguistic statements evaluating functional style, media stylistics, and stylistic devices in the English language, we determined the diverse usage of expressive syntax in both videocasting and written articles. From analyzed syntactic expressive means, we identified the frequency and common usage of such syntactic expressive means as rhetorical question and simple repetition in oral and written reports. The sample analysis indicated that a paragraph in any economic report might restrain more than one occurrence of expressive syntax; these carry a manipulative function through psychological phenomena represented via syntactic expressive means.

Abstract:
Many studies have shown a link between being competent in early mathematics and achievement in school. Early math skills have the potential to be the best predictors of later performance in reading and mathematics. Movement and songs are activities that children like, making it easier for teachers to apply mathematical concepts through this method. This study aims to develop audio-visual learning media in the form of songs with a mixture of western and traditional musical idioms, accompanied by movements that represent some of the teaching of early mathematics concepts. The stages of developing the ADDIE model are the basis for launching new learning media products related to math and art, and also planting the nation's cultural arts from an early age. These instructional media products were analyzed by experts and tested for their effectiveness through experiments on five children aged 3-4 years. The qualitative data were analyzed using transcripts of field notes and observations and interpreted in a descriptive narrative. The quantitative data were analyzed using gain score statistics. The results showed that there was a significant increase in value for early mathematical understanding of the concepts of geometry, numbers and measurement through this learning medium. The results of the effectiveness test become the final basis of reference for revision and complement the shortcomings of this learning medium. Further research can be carried out to develop other mathematical concepts through motion and song learning media, and to create experiments with a wider sample.

Abstract:
The English newspaper history is one of the stages of the world's press history, and its origins go back centuries ago. Today, the tendency to media outlets, newspapers, magazines, television, etc. and great interest to "new media" (Internet, social media, etc.) by many of us is just one of the innovations that the internet brings with itself, and no doubt today's modern media are the next stage of the development of traditional media. English newspaper style may be defined as a system of interrelated lexical, phraseological and grammatical means that basically serves the purpose of informing and instructing the reader. It causes difficulties in the study and investigation of the English language, which is the language of mass media. It is important to focus on many details and differences when translating media samples into other languages (including the Azerbaijani language) published in many countries around the world. Only being aware of numerous details and peculiarities, which characterize a newspaper style, a translator will succeed to do a correct and adequate translation. Moreover, a translator must have not only a sound command of English, but also sense of language to cope with different kinds of problems he/ she faces during translation. Thus, the translation features of the English newspapers are being studied by worldwide linguists, researchers and translators. In this research we will review some sources of English newspapers and investigate grammatical, lexical, stylistic and phraseological difficulties of translation of English newspapers. Key words: newspaper style, translation features, mass media

Abstract:
Compounds have been investigated in linguistics for quite a long time now (approximately since the middle of the XX century), and there are numerous papers researching different aspects of this linguistic phenomenon today. This fact alone testifies to the complex and ambiguous nature of compounds. This article dwells upon one particular problem in this spectrum: it investigates compound adjectives in English- and German-language media texts and their translation into Russian. The first part raises basic theoretical problems related to compounds: the choice of terminology, the essence of the concept itself and the criteria used for compounds. The analysis is based on the works by prominent Russian and foreign researches, such as N. V. Arzhantseva, I. V. Arnold, O. Jespersen, E. A. Nida, A. I. Smirnitsky, R. Quirk. The second part systematises functions and stylistic features of compounds based on the previous theoretical research, with nomination, pursuing economy principle and expressing emotions and evaluation among them. It also deals with frequency of realization of the above-mentioned functions in contemporary written media texts. We analysed English- and German-language articles from different online magazines that were translated into Russian by http://inosmi.ru/, described the translations of compound adjectives used, with their stylistic properties. It is noteworthy that no research works on translating compounds with regard to these features has been conducted yet. In this section, we analysed the choice of equivalents, concentrating on the preservation of stylistic and functional properties of the original units, which brought us to conclusions about the problems translators face when working with compounds. It also enabled us to speculate on possible ways of handling these problems.
