Monnier, René. "Approche d'une énonciation cinématographique." Toulouse 2, 1989. http://www.theses.fr/1989TOU20029.
Full textWhile admitting the linguistic function of the cinema as a matter of principle, this essay endeavours to resume theoretical analysis in keeping with the main guidelines developed by andre bazin. To do so, we shall consistently take into account jacques lacan's research work on spoken language. Three extensive chapters from the subject matter of our reflexion. In the first one, we shall analyse the systems of identification, those that set up the links between the film-maker and the audience. The mirror-image, which is exterior and reversed, sometimes gives rise to feelings of anguish because it provides no solution; fritz lang concludes it with an ethical statement which contributes to altering the original subjectivity of the audience. In the second part, we shall examine the film codes, while trying to understand how the reality of the filmmaker supplies a symbolic system which will be used to revive the imaginary. Since the mental image precedes the cinema image, in thus has to face the symbolic law of a language that existed before and which it will contribute to reinforcing. Can a language developing on its own sometimes, and as such, entail a subversion of its symbolic corpus? under what favourable circumstances does it reveal the existence of a filming subject? after suggesting a definition of filming subject, we shall attempt to trace its mark on the formal aspect of the film
Robert, Stéphane. "Système verbal et énonciation en wolof." Paris 7, 1989. http://www.theses.fr/1989PA070075.
Full textThis dissertation aims to characterize from a semantic - pragmatic view-point the verb paradigms of wolof, a language of the west-atlan- -tic group spoken in senegal, within the framework of "theorie de l'enonciation" (utterance theorie) propounded by a. Culioli. The various paradigms are systematically explored and contrasted in a number of genuine contexts of utterance. Despite the variety of con- -textual values, the utter specificity of each set of forms is pin- -pointed. Clues are offered to the puzzling problems raised by the apparent synonymy and semantic ambiguity that have so far obscured the interpretation of wolof verb paradigms. New light is shed both on the typology of verbs and the basic oppostion of complete vs incomplete processes. The verbal system as a whole is thus recons- -tructed with a shift of emphasis from the description of an apparently symmetrical set of paradigms to an analysis of the subtle interaction of tense, aspect and modality that underlies the actual use of these forms
Mazguidi, Mostapha. "Le discours coranique : énonciation et énonciateurs." Thesis, Bourgogne Franche-Comté, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018UBFCH009/document.
Full textThe Qur'an, an omnipresent discourse via different media, has been a constant source of attention since the beginning of writing in the Arab sphere; writing as a composition of works because culture was, before the Koran, oral. From then until today, he remains an inexhaustible object of study and speculation. The language sciences are not sufficiently exploited to explore its mysteries as a unique religious discourse. Linguistic studies were limited to the linguistic domains of Arabic such as syntax and rhetoric which attempted to resurrect what makes the Koran an inimitable discourse as it presents itself and as presented by Islamic Tradition. This work aims at an analysis that draws modern theories of language sciences for an understanding of Koranic discourse
Zaarour, Suzanne. "Le théâtre de Sarraute : polyphonie et énonciation." Thesis, Dijon, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014DIJOL032/document.
Full textThe corpus is formed of six plays of Nathalie Sarraute; it hides a duplication of enunciation types in the characters’ dialogue. This duplication is latent due to personal pronouns and verb tenses’ neutralization. The transition from an enunciation layer to another is not marked at all or not traditionally marked. Therefore, deciphering will be more complicated to any reader, listener or spectator. These works of art are also highly polyphonic in terms of enunciation as in semantics, as several voices are intertwined and as the characters resort to authorities of point of view. Thus, readers, listeners and spectators should identify enunciation sources and “other” authorities of point of view to distinguish them from the original voices and to know what their contribution to the plays is. Even some speeches are reported and, predominately repeated as direct speech. Therefore, enunciation layers and enunciators are multiplied. We can also notice other voices in plays, as the author’s through what is called “stage directions” and other parts of the texts, the practitioners’ and the director’s through the performance
Kassan, Balaïbaou. "Système verbal et énonciation en Kakiye (Togo)." Paris 3, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996PA030116.
Full textEndowed with the following characteristics : noun category, vowel system, tonal and complex morphology, the "kabiye" language could be classified as part of the "gurunsi" group belonging to the voltaic family and which ressembles to a large extent the "bantu" languages. This present study proposes an analysis which rests on the uses of the verbal forms in context. While the "kabiye" verbal system is not conjugated, the verb phrase is chracterized by the addition of verbal affixes to the lexeme (subject, aspect, time, mood, modal). These affixes (with the exception of the subject), together with the type of process and conditionning by the context, constitute the elements of the determinetion of the verb. He various possibilities of arranging these elements, coupled with the multiple context uses, produce values very different from the marker. Above all, it is a question of bringing out the role played by the determination and showing how the same verbal marker produces uses of different values; and inversely, how these different markers allow the expression of identical value uses

Full textAs a message and a production of meaning, the film is a fragment of experience. The transposition of the linguistic theory of the énonciation (act of stating) into the cinematographic field requires to think initially about the nature of the signs which compose the film and to validate the possibility of studying them as meaning units, that is attractive to compare with those of the language. However, it remains an irremediable difference between the units of the language, integrating a general system, limited in number and open for some to a working of deictic designation, and the units of the cinema, particular, numberless and iconic. Besides the possibility of a semiological categorization of some processes recognized as enunciative ones, this study intends to take advantage of this calling into question of the idea itself of énonciation in the cinema to question the epistemological fundaments of this concept. Between a deictic approach and a métadiscursives interpretation, it is advisable to suggest a hermeneutics way and to let the spectator reinvest his fundamental position of addressee without whom the film is nothing but virtual. It is in this condition that the prospect of a stylistic and aesthetic widening emerges, or the recognition of an individual artistic act. The work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet is ideally suitable for this exercise, because it instrumentalizes all the cinematographic means, because it uses recurring and coherent themes and because, oscillating between purification and sophistication, it aims at a certain sacrality of the actual

Full textThrough an analytical description of its working, we will be questioning the status of enunciation and subjectivity in Classical Age plays. We began by recapitulating on theatre semiotics studies : they have shown that the representation of any dramatic text should be considered as a collective process of enunciation where complex relationships arise between multiple instances of enunciation, wether real or fictitious. The second and third part of our work is devoted to the analysis of the theatre play as it appears in book format. We define this object through its different elements, develop the study of the enunciatory status of each paratextual ensemble, and by showing that the instance of enunciation is both unique and complex we evaluate the authorial presence in the work of theatre. Then turn to the type of reading that theatre specifically requires, thus detailing the modes of enunciation at work in such textual elements as directions and the lines attributed to the characters. We will show that the dramatist's voice is an oblique one : he makes as if he could be assimilated to the heterogeneity of speaking characters and leaves it to the reader appreciate his implication in the Classical Age : when monarchical society does not allow its subjects free expression, it leaves them read themselves in the representations theatre gives of human characters. Lastly, we study how from the Antiquity to the 17th century theatre text has been progressively conceived and eleborated for reaging
Tayot, Marie-Eve. "Figurativité, énonciation et passions dans la poésie de Tchicaya U Tam'si." Limoges, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998LIMO2009.
Full textThe aim of this thesis is to show using semiotics the 'grammar' which governs the poetic universe of tchicaya u tam'si. And futheremore how the internal networks of legibility organize themselves. A first reading shows an aesthetic of deconstruction which aims at an original reconstruction. The emergence of meaning occurs on the crossroads between the affiliation culture and the language used by the colonizer. The poetry of tchicaya reveals itself as a lively and open vocabulary. The first reading establishes the basis of an attempt of understanding of the differents mechanisms which leads to the production of the meaning in the poetic works of tchicaya. The first part tries to elaborate an homogeneous reading of the examined corpus. By means discovering figurative and thematic isotopies. It is shown that the 'utamsian' poetic text is guided by an abstract polarisation whose pivotals terms are 'life' and 'death' in the other hand the figurativity in tchicaya's poetry appears to be a place of 'oversemantisation' where a network of correspondences between distincts zones of the natural world is being formulated the second part of the thesis argues how an identity crisis and a quest of alterity structuralizes the enunciation schemes and discursives procedures (spatialization and temporalization) the ' questioning of the other leads to a confession of the self'. Finally the third part sets up correlations between semantic and discursive components, and immanent categories of the discourse. Through the analysis of the pathemic configuration 'patriotism', we have tried to set up the links between figurativity, enunciation of identity schemes, procedures of discursivization and thymic, tensive and cognitive dimensions. Thus passionate conffiguration of patriotism installs itself in discourse as a result of an observation of failure outside discourse. The passion for congo conditions tchicaya's plan of writing. For him 'to write' is a pragmatic action which results from a dysphoric evaluation of pragmatic, thymic and cognitive dimensions
Park, Shin Eun-Young. "Approche sémiotique des tragédies de Racine : problème de la double énonciation." Paris 4, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA040015.
Full textThe objective of this study is to analyses the seven tragedies of Racine (from Andromaque to Phèdre) by some semiotic methods in considering the specificity of the dramatic text, i. E. , the system of double enunciation. Inside of the enunciative framework 1 (author-reader), there is another fictional enunciative framework 2 (between the personages). In approaching this problem in the sight of the author, we will examine, first of all, how the author informs the reader in respecting the enunciative disposition of the theatre. The second part relates to the intra-scenic enunciative circuit. We will see how the personages inform one another, and how the dramatic action develops by the perlocutionary acts. In the third part, we will undertake a pragmatic analysis of the personages' discourse, in order to find the archi-enunciator that is in the interaction of their speech acts. To conclude, we will verify the result of our analysis in relation to the rhetoric, principal writing rules of French classical age, and this for the purpose of avoiding the possible errors caused by anachrony
Liambou, Ghislain Nickaise. "Énonciation et transtextualité dans le roman africain francophone de la migritude." Thesis, Nice, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015NICE2011/document.
Full textThe topic of immigration has inspired an explosion of novels in Francophone Literature. They usually lean on the twenty-first century’s mobility of people and technologies in order to fictionalize issues related to cosmopolitanism. In the specific context of sub-Saharan African Literature, literary criticism assimilates this corpus to the ‘’Migritude’’, a phenomenon presented as the raising of a new generation of African writers in contemporary France. The writer’s institutional approach also comes to strengthen this perception. Indeed, a mess of them have signed the manifesto of the World Literature in French. Our thesis needs to examine these problems through the Literature Discourse Analysis approach. The primary step is about the reminder of historiography related to postcolonial African travel fictions. Afterwards the reflection seeks to compare those African novels, between the founding and the recent, on the basis of categories such as characters, space and imaginary. With regard to postcolonial theories as well as the narrative phenomenon of intertextuality, this thesis finally consider the emerging of post-colonial African Travel Literature as the rewriting of an archive running across Francophone African travel-writings since the early twenty century. They all question the accessibility of Africa and its diaspora to the Global Culture

Full textAnchored in the field of discourse analysis, this dissertation studies a corpus of letters which were written by patients interned in pyschiatric institutions located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. These letters were initially kept in the archives of the psychiatric institutions, but are now archived at the Collection de l’Art Brut, in Lausanne. Such an institutional transfer leads one to ponder on the current modalities of reception of these texts. To answer this question, a theory of language is needed. Enunciation theory (Benveniste) is particularly apt to analyse and to conceptualize language from the perspective of the interlocutor. Besides, enunciation theory opens to discursivity, enriching the corpus with a dialogical dimension which is here channelled around the theme of madness. The question which is then raised is the following : in which respect do the works of art brut exceed their status as clinical documents ? Coined by Gérard Dessons, the conceptual couple « manie » / « manière » allows one to conceptualize within language the shift of point of view which is required by the corpus. What is at stake, in broad outline, is to get rid of rhetorics to the benefit of a poetics of enunciation. The challenge is to quit thinking language on the basis of categories (such as genre, but also sign) which preexist texts and which are only able to capture variations on models (or worse, abnormalities, even symptoms) : one has to approach these texts according to the processes and, more globally and radically, according to the specific (and thus unnameable up until then – which is why they « drive one crazy ») modes of signification which they set up. This criticism of widely accepted conceptualities and this reversal of perspective form the epistemological knot of my dissertation

Full textThis work aims at dispalying the language mechanisms used by Daniel Biyaoula, Fatou Diome and Léonora Miano in their novels in order to convey the meaning. It higens on the discourse analysis. The work of fiction lies a diversity of clues that the enunciation underlines and helps better examine the organization. Therefore, our study is divided into parts. The first theme is, « The scene of enunciation: pattern indicative of the functioning of society ». It analyzes the elements of speech in connection with the social, cultural, literary and political context of Africa and France. It appears from this that the characters are subjected by customary, religious and cultural practrice updated in the space in the novel. The second part is entitled « The enunciative registration method of the characters in the textual frabric » and it is particularly interested in communication devices that determine the characteristics of thecharacters. From language elements, this section proposes to see from the organization of textual structures, how the enunciation defines the characters

Full textOur study is an analysis of how the term carmen was used in rome to refer to a specific act of speech. The first part broaches the uses of the word when related to three types of agents - birds, instruments, and cantores - showing the unity of a category which, although not an equivalent, embraces the modern notions of song and music. The carmen is thus defined as an act incorporating the properties of the uox, perceived as sonorous matter that provokes physical, emotional and semantic effects. Part 2 and 3 deal with the uses of the word in the field of religion and law: they show a semantic evolution of the word which, after having referred to "magical" speech acts competing with the law, is renewed at the beginning of the roman empire as an archaising category designating any type of speech act where words are supposed to have an intrinsic efficiency: prayers, laws, or prophecies. Flnally, part 4 and 5 outline the gradual use of carmen as a word of poetic self-reference: first referring to the performance of an actor as opposed to the poema, which is a text, the word carmen is later reconsidered by Catullus and Lucretius as a fictive act of speech. Virgil, Horace and Propertius broaden this novelty by using carmen and canere to refer to the poetic act: it becomes a global speech act category, unifying heterogeneous greek practices, designating either iambos, melos, epos or elegy. This unifying speech act allows the new roman poets to import greek poetry as a significant form qf cultural renewal, which is typical of the augustan age

Full textMy purpose is to show that the tonematic supports ensure the cohesion of the language, both at phonematic and grammatical levels. This cohesion is the result of two phenomena, which are closely linked and complementary: the predication and the performance. - After several field research campaigns, I decided to adopt the model of Emilio Bonvini, elaborated when he described the Kasim language. The work is divided into two parts : 1. Description of the basic units of the language which enable this language to exist and to be identified as such; i. E. Presentation of the main ethnolinguistic and linguistic information, phonetics and phonematics of the segmental and tonic domain, as well as the tonology of the melodic domain. 2. Predication and performance. I then analyze the main performative and non performative phenomena as structural elements within the scheme and in scheme sequences. These morphosyntactic phenomena are correlated with the verbal and nominal elements. - i conclude in demonstrating to what extend my analysis is based upon a linguistic theory which shows much better than usual and traditional approaches how rich the Ngbaka language is

Full textThis analysis of linguistic aspects of text coherence turns on a chapter of a french geometry school book intended for a class of 4e. In the first part we will study the different kinds of texture in that chapter. In the second we will see how the logical pattern of proof definites units and explains the particular sort of inference in some texts. The whole of the texts especially allows study the text references. We'll try to show the importance of the difference between endophoric and exophoric references. Then we'll throw the role of the stabilized knowledges by the subject (geometry) into relief, relating to the semantic relations between the referents. An abstract figure squarring with a particular sentence of each text seems to be theme that configures that one. The comparaison with texts that are not mathematical ones gives the oppotunity to see how the cognitive context has an influence on the linguistic organization just as the text aims to modify the context

Full textThe title of this thesis shows that its theoretical is "psychosystematic enunciation". It deals with the verb and especially the verbal tenses such as "imparfait", "passe simple" and passe compose". The data is taken from an african novel entitled les soleils des independances written by a. Kourouma. The main objects of this work, on the one hand are to show how this theory gives a clear analysis of grammatical and linguistic facts and to contribute to the almost inexistant grammatical study of african literature written in french on the other hand. This research is composed of three parts. The first one (from ch. 1 to 3), which is a sort of theoretical preliminary is in fact a critical synthesis about the various approaches made in the field of the verbal tenses in french nowadays. I also make an account of the way linguistic tense is represented in relation to the verb in french. The second part (from ch. 4 to 6) which is a practical on deals with the expressve theory of language. In it we tried to explain according to the psychosystematic views, the various uses of verbal tenses through our data. The third and last part deals with the theoretical repercussions (ch. 7)

Full textThis study is based on the utterer-centered approach developped by a. Culioli. Its aim is to show that an utterance in the passive voice is not the result of a mechanical transformation from a corresponding active base, nor a paraphrastic reformulation with the same propositional content. An operation on the orientation of the predicative relation is performed by the utterer. A passive utterance is derived from an ordered primitive relationship. Various occurences of the diathesis can then be accounted for thanks to the schema thus obtained : markets such as be ven, have ven, nominalizations, "notional" passives. After an examination of the literature devoted to the passive, and a brief survey of historic change, an exploratory study of various problems is then made in order to tackle the semantic classes verbs belong to, aspectual forms, be, have and get as well as the notion of agentivity and agent and the question of transitiv ity. The restrictions on the production of utterances in the passive voice, and the factors favouring their construction are also examined

Full textThis thesis comes as an aid to that discourse analysis which is anchored in textual materiality, and which questions the meanings produced by the discourse at hand, as it is received - and not only as it is issued. Such meanings depend on those discursive formations which preside at their surfacing, and which are therefore not all accessible to the analyst. The latter subsequently needs to dispose of ways of finding out the maximum of grammatically possible interpretations, by temporally putting aside all spontaneous understanding. In case where a verb is interpretable in terms of splitting of enuniation (a sort of reported speech that we mark by the expression "Verbe de Dire Modalisé", we show that several interpratations - depending on preliminary interpretation presuppositions necessarily at work - are possible and we propose to examine them systematically. Taking into account the language forms actually present supposes one has an idea of how they function. .

Full textWhat procedure of discursivization makes it possible to present the ensemble of varied narratives recounting “origins,” in the book of Genesis of the biblical literature, as an orderly “cycle”? This question leads to the formulation of the hypothesis that the first story of creation, the “septenary of days,” constitutes, as a paradigm, a system capable of structuring the deployment of the following narratives (Gn 2 – 11). The originality of this system consists, above all, in putting in place mechanisms of orientation toward an instance of enunciation which constitutes a “footprint.” Then, the discursivization of the subsequent texts, by means of the discursive path, employs “formant-signifiers” of the “figural” order, likely to recall this footprint and to function as so many indicators of the instance of enunciation. Finally, at the end of the biblical literature, the “septenary of seals” in the book of Revelation (Apocalypse 5-8) reexposes the paradigm, recapitulates the figural, renews the indication of the instance of enunciation, and redefines the orientation toward this instance. Thus, by means of the figural, discursivization ties a veritable “knot” between figurative values and instance of enunciation. In its figural, the figure becomes a stumbling stone along the path of the reading which orients the reader, leading him as close as possible to the positions of the subjects of the instance of enunciation

Full textThe Japanese media convey an identity discourse that underlines the unique character of Japanese culture through a confrontation with a certain type of alterity. Since the late 1990s, this discourse has established itself in variety shows involving panels of foreign guests. How is this foreign cast presented in the shows? What are their roles, and what operations are involved in producing a televised message that leverages alterity to speak about Japan?Without seeking to pass judgement on the discourse of Japanese uniqueness, this thesis focuses on the discourse and operations involved in four programs produced by public and private television channels, and analyzes them through an innovative method based on a software called Timeline. These results are then compared with the outcomes of a field survey targeting both the participants and the producers of these programs. The study of the different ways in which foreigners are presented in these programs and the types of control brought into play to manage their discourse allows us to see how the participants’ television visageity is leveraged to promote a message about identity. It leads us to conclude that the objectification of “them” to talk about “us” takes place through a variable distancing process, namely a relation of extraneity

In fact, based on Bakhtin’s notion of the dialogism, our work defines the function of the style by the means of orchestrating a linguistic plurality: Plato presents different languages inside the dialogue, such as the poetic language, the orators’ technic language or also the language of the philosophers who had preceded him; he makes them interact and confront between them, creating by this a new concept of the dialogue’s object, i.e. the speech and the enamoured soul. The enunciative situation reveals the work done on the linguistic material and permits to implement the dialogue between different languages either by attributing these languages to different characters, who become themselves a source of the sense for the terms employed, or by adding to the word’s immediate context a much larger context who demands, for the same word, a new sense different from the one who is coherent with the immediate context. In addition, some particularities of the enunciative situation question the assumptions on which is based the understanding of any statement, in particular, the principle of non-contradiction : according to our theory, these particularities shouldn’t be erased, they correspond to Plato’s intention and form the interpretative riddles that Plato addresses to the reader

Full textThe purpose of the thesis is to formulate an argumentative and enunciative analysis of the connector "mais" within the frame work of the theory of Semantic Blacks, the second technical version of the theory of Argumentation within the Language. It replaces the topique version where the meaning of words consist of a package of tapoi by saying that the argumentative characteristic of discourse is related to the interdependence between the segments uttered. This interdependence takes the forme of a semantic black associating a fragment of discourse to another one. Firstly, the tools of this Semantical Slocks theory permit to avoid certain difficulties of the description of the adversative usage of "mais" proposed by Jean-Claude Anscombre and Oswald Ducrot. These difficulties are imputed to the confusion in using a notion of "'argumentation" not far from "inference" which is in contradiction with the principals of the theory of Argumentation within the Language. Secondly, they help us in our analysis of the refutative usage of '''maisSN'', in reviewing and redefining the notions of "rectification" and '''negation metalinguistique". So we introduce the Argumentative Theory of Polyphony which complete the Semantical Blocks theory, finally, the conclusion of our analyses recommended that there is only one type of "mais" in french language with different forms of opposition

My goal is to present a descriptive framework based on the notion of usage and spartial axes (degrees of distance and orientation) that determine the choice of the appropriate form. Different uses of space deixis also depend on text referring acts and on discourse categories. The study of demanstratives can also be extended to textuel identifications

Full textIn this study, based on the empirical examination of a wide corpus of exclamatory utterances in German, I argue that there is an exclamatory type of enunciation, which must be acknowledged and analysed. The utterances that are grammatically marked as exclamations : Was du nicht sagst!, Wenn das keine Meisterleistung ist!, Ist das aber schön!, Was für eine Ehre!, Welch ein Glück!, Du bist mir vielleicht eine!, have, despite the diversity of their forms, the same function: they always mark a break in the flow of the text or speech which signals an emotional reaction of the speaker, who comments on a given state of affairs. Starting with the functional definition of the exclamatory utterances, I then interpret the formal markings that can be found in them (w-markers, position of the verb, qualifying predicates, words used, operator dass, exclamatory accent). These various markers generate together a specific semantic configuration, which distinguishes exclamation from interrogation as well as from assertion. However, from a functional point of view, exclamation can be compared to expressive rhetorical questions, which I also examine

Full textThe study of enunciation of the paranoid schizophrenic can be useful in clinical psychology and in psycho-pathology. It doesn't allow, strictly, to educe some linguistic constants, which would specify a kind of talking. However, the particularisms of the use of certain linguistical forms nearly all put in obviousness a rupture between the subject of the wording and the subject of the enunciation. After doing a recall about the theories of the enunciation; a glimpse of the language's psychopathological thesis, on analyse of the conditions of accessibility to the language and some linguistical and psycho-pathological remarks about the symbolization, we'll introduce the questions of the methods of analyse of the oral talking constituting the corpus. It deals with a paraphrastical method which enters upon the oral text in its totality, in search of the laws of the proper functioning to the texts. The results insist essentially on the fact that the defaulting psychological organization of the psychotics has some repercussions on the linguistical indicatories : the use of the "self-i" is peculiar in the sense of its absence or of a too important insistence ; the use of the temporals and spatial deictics is inappropriate ; the anaphorical "that" is omnipresent ; the subject is not very engaged in the action of his talking. Furthermore, it appears thatthe linguistical sign is inconsistent ; something resists to the access of the signification. The semantical lapses, the textual ruptures, the entanglement of the narrative levels are risen to the rank of interlocutive strategy. In a word, the schizophrenic gives evidence in the handling of the linguistical tool of his permanent difficulty to distinguish the different instancies (entreaties) of enunciation

Full textWithin the framework of culioli's theory of enunciative operations, this study aims at defining a fundamental linguistic operation common to all imperative utterances, in spite of the numerous values they elicit (order, request, advice, condition, etc. ). On the basis of a corpus made of genuine examples, the analysis proceeds from a diachronic and synchronic study which leads to the proposition of a new theoretical hypothesis about the nature of the english imperative -- a hypothesis then corroborated against actual linguistic phenomena

Full textWho is speaking when the actor speaks ? what is the comedian enunciation ? how is it achieved ? in order to answer these questions, i put forwand a series of hypothesis, such as : this enunciation is nothing but a meta, if not a meta-meta enunciation, and its achievement is both objective and subjective. The work of the actor is to mank the difference, in tone, between the actor utteances depending on who is speaking : the speakers, the enunciators, the anthor, the director, the caracter or himself ? body movements : gestures, facial expressions and posture are also nonverbal signs which enable the discurse to concretise and to focus on the character the study of body movements turned to be as important as the study of prosody

Full textThe aim of this thesis is the historical study of negation in english. It begins with an introduction to the diachrony of negation which shows the descriptive aspect of the previous studies. Its first part deals with negation, either primitive or built, in old english. The second part is about negation in middle english. It demonstrates the continuity and the discontinuity of the negation system throughout the use of ne, and the appearence of not and do in negative sentences. At last the annex contains some statistics which permit us to have well-argued ideas

Full textThis research investigates the linguistic means of locating relative to a subject in injunctive utterances. A survey of the ways in which the concept of subject is defined in various linguistic theories shows that the presence of a subject in injunctive utterances is mostly considered as a redundant marker with regard to the standard pattern. Within the framework of the Theory of Enunciative and Predicative Operations, markers in the utterances are analysed as indications of the location relative to subjective parameters. The analysis of authentic utterances is carried out with a view defining the construction of the initial locator, both in cases where the subject argument slot is filled and in cases where it is empty. It can be argued that the injunction mode does not, as such, construe a validated occurrence of the predicative relation, but defines the choice made by the original enunciator S. ̥ of one value (P or P') from within the notional domain. The predicative relation is necessarily located with respect to the dual origin made up of S. ̥ and S1 (enunciator and co-enunciator). S. ̥ and S1 must therefore be considered as two distinct instances. The redefinition of a number of metalinguistic tools suggested in this thesis attempts to open new avenues for the study of injunction

The analysis tries to disarticulate some "evidence effects" produced by the discourse. Words such as etranger, national, emigre, exclusion, integration, zoulou, francais, voisin, habitant usually referring to the same and the other, are analysed in order to show the way equivocacy works.
