Inglis (W. G. Inglis. 1983. Aust. J. Zool. 31: 243–255) divided Nematoda into three classes: the Enoplea, Rhabditea, and Chromadorea. Although most nematologists agree as to the limits of each of these groups, there is much disagreement as to how the groups relate to one another. Some authors group the Chromadorea with the Rhabditea, others group the Chromadorea with the Enoplea, and still others treat the three as independently derived taxa. Nucleotide sequences of the D3 expansion segment of the 28S rDNA gene were used to reconstruct evolutionary relationships within the Adenophorea. Neighbor-joining and parsimony analyses of representatives of most major taxa revealed a paraphyletic Adenophorea (p = 0.0005). Within Adenophorea, the Enoplia, Enoplida, and Enoplina were paraphyletic (p = 0.0024, 0.0014, and 0.0120, respectively). A major division was evident within the Enoplida, with one lineage consisting of a basal Thoracostomopsidae and Enoplidae, and a second lineage consisting of Oncholaimidae and Encheliididae. Dagger nematodes parasitize plants. They cause economic damage and death of host crops through feeding on the roots and by spreading viral mosaic and wilting diseases, but field studies have shown that some control measures targeting reduction in the population of dagger nematodes can be effective in controlling viral diseases in susceptible crops. Abstract:
The nematode zooparasites of vertebrate and invertebrate correspond to an aspect of biodiversity which has not been properly evaluated. In Chile, specific research on Trichinelloidea (Order Trichinellida) is scarce. For this reason, a recompilation on the taxa observed in this country was carried out, by means of a bibliographic review. The reported families are Capillariidae Néveu-Lemaire, 1936, with 11 identified species in Mammalia, Aves and Osteichtyes (including Capillaria sp. s. l. in Milvago chimango from the Metropolitan region, recorde here for the first time); Trichinellidae Ward, 19

The free-living marine nematodes of San Julián Bay dataset is based on sediment samples collected in January 2009 during the project PICT AGENCIA-FONCYT 2/33345-2005. A total of 36 samples have been taken at three locations in the San Julián Bay, Santa Cruz Province, Argentina on the coastal littoral at three tidal levels. This presents a unique and important collection for the nematode benthic biodiversity assessment as this area remains one of the least known regions in Patagonia. In total 10,030 specimens of free-living marine nematodes belonging to 2 classes, 9 orders, 35 families, 78 gene

AbstractThe systematic position of Campydora Cobb, 1920, which possesses many unique morphological features, especially in pharyngeal structure and stomatal armature, has long been a matter of uncertainty with the 'position of the Campydorinae' (containing only Campydora) being questionable. A review of the morphology of C. demonstrans, the only nominal species of Campydora concluded that the species warranted placement as the sole member of a monotypic suborder, Campydorina, in the order Dorylaimida. Others placed Campydorina in the order Enoplida. We conducted phylogenetic analyses, using 18

Coral reef ecosystems in the South China Sea are one of the globally important marine biodiversity hotspots. However, there are few studies on nematode biodiversity in coral reef sediments. Here, we assessed nematode biodiversity in coral reef sediments in the South China Sea using eDNA metabarcoding. Eight sampling stations were set up in the region north of the South China Sea Basin (Xisha and Zhongsha Islands) and south of it (Nansha Islands), respectively. We also compared and analysed the nematode biodiversity and community structure in different regions, as well as the effects of environ
