Full textDistance education and the evolution of ICT, along with a new paradigm of learning such as the constructivist learning, are leading to the development of diverse educational settings and their applications. Our research is on the development of self-directed learning at university by integrating distance learning using ICT. In order to discover factors preventing innovation and self-directed distance learning, we constructed a general model of new innovative education which differs from the traditional one. In fact, the very obstacles of innovation and self-directed learning are related to teaching itself, whether it has institutional or technological contexts. These constitute the basic conditions for developing distance learning with ICT. We have thus found interdependant links among the three different sides of our model. Without bringing a change in the teaching itself on an institutional and political level, innovation cannot be successful as we hope. Thus, teacher's training is necessary to innovate pedagogy at university level. Its objective is to provide teachers with the experience of new teaching methods such as distance learning using ICT and new teaching models such as the constructivist teaching

Full textSince its independence in 1958, the Republic of Guinea has experienced three regimes of government. During the First Republic, many reforms were introduced to promote the democratisation of education. Following the inauguration of the Second Republic in 1984, the new authorities identified serious distortions in the education sector with a weakness of financial viability and adopted a new policy. The objective of the democratisation of education remained the same, but the number of higher education institutions was drastically reduced The criteria for student acceptance became stronger and the number of students shrank. Current research work has been based on a recognition of the present inability of the government to meet a strongest demand for higher education. The objective is to develop a complementary solution which preserves, and improves the quality of teaching, in the context of a shortage of resources, by the distance learning. Following a initial approach of distance learning, a deeper study of both the social-economic and educational contexts has given a better understanding of pressures for a wider access to university. From this analysis originated the concept of a Cooperative Centre of Higher Education of Distance Learning based on a federation of the former establishments to provide improvements in the reception of students and opportunities better adapted to meet both the needs and the social- economic imperatives of Guinea

Full textThe use of the technologies of information and communication in the Tunisian Academic field is the result of a national ambition which has a goal the generalization of computers in universities. Within this general context, that the distance learning project within the high schools of technological studies is born. This interest of the educational technologies legitimates this work of research. In that moment, we asked the question, first of all about the strategies of the Tunisian political actors for the media coverage of the higher Educational field, then for the innovators of distance learning project for the acquisition of their new techno-pedagogical device and its diffusion, and finally we are interested in the effective use of the participants (learners and teachers) of the media-covered teaching means. In addition, our analysis were related to practicing the technical tools outside the universities; we tried to analyze, in a precise way, not only if the use of the machines of communication in the daily life for the social subjects in question participates in the changes of their ways of life, but also if the use of these technical objects inside or outside the field of study or education participates in the abolition of the boundaries between the professional and the private sphere. Definitively, this work of research aims to contribute to the comprehension of the phenomena of the social generalization of the technologies of information and communication that Tunisia; one of the countries of the south is living nowadays

Full textThe present thesis, which is being implemented by Universidade Candido Mendes, situated in Rio de Janeiro city, Brazil, has been developed with the purpose of struggling against social exclusion, by offering lato sensu post-graduation courses, presential and at distance, at low costs and with high quality. Therefore, low income graduated students are able to improve their academic profiles, capacitating levels as well as their employability skills. After studying Brazilian educational history, within its various aspects, it was detected a generation of social excluders, due to the absence of options for low income people. Thus, to improve the understanding of questions concerned to this specific context, the studies involving lato sensu post-graduation area were deepened. In order to achieve the proposed objective, it was necessary to implant a model that, economical feasible, should be autosustainable to allow its maintenance and expansion. During the thesis evolution, a project has been developed and implanted using modern administration techniques and, after being thoroughly tested, it is currently presenting the expected results

Full textThis research is anchored in a socio-didactic approach and focuses on the levers and barriers to setting in motion processes in which students from the University of Nantes cultivate (inter)cultural awareness within the framework of a preparation for study abroad. The setting for this research is the program implemented for Less Widely Used and Less Taught (LWULT) languages within the framework of the LWULT Project set up by the International Relations Department of the University of Nantes. A 3-year (2011/2012- 2013/2014) longitudinal study was conducted on a synchronous and asynchronous tele-collaborative teaching/learning program for Polish, Turkish, Finnish in partnership with State Higher Vocational School in Tarnow (Poland), Galatasaray University (Turkey), and the University of Turku (Finland). Taking into account research findings in Applied Linguistics, Sociology and Social Psychology, this doctoral research has allowed to 1) determine a learner profile which is favorable to cultivating cultural intelligence, 2) show the determining role of learner communities in the process of cultivating cultural intelligence and 3) develop a model of analysis of interactions which are likely to support the aforementioned process

Full textThe relations created by the phenomenon of new technologies, shake our benchmarks, we enter a new era, where everything should be thought in this transition. The doctorate is led to evolve, to be thought differently. The creation of the online doctorate opens new working hypotheses. This thesis analyses an unprecedented educational experience (2010-2016), relating an online doctorate and the pedagogical question of the 3rd cycle in education sciences. This thesis testifies of an ongoing innovation and is consistent with the Institutional Analysis logic. To date, no other experience of creating an online doctorate in education sciences in French-speaking countries has been recorded. This object of research is therefore totally new at the doctorate level within French-speaking countries. As such, it is a prospective thesis in the sense that there is not, yet, no research on e-learning at doctorate level in education sciences. This thesis, as an experimentation, is a pioneer. The author is a full member of the ethnomethodological theory. As an observer in an action-research project, she could take on the role of clinical ethnographer in the face of the implementation difficulties encountered. This failed experiment was considered an attempt, a passage, a rough draft from which to learn. How to develop this project and overcome the problems encountered? Which framework develop so that PhD students, teachers get involved or feel involved in building the community of reference? How could the idea of an online doctorate be extended to other fields? In relation to the new reform of universities, could not the theses in validation of prior experience (Validation des acquis de l’expérience) be linked with this kind of online thesis? This thesis will try to answer this. It brings news elements into the field of research and develops a reflection in order to overcome the problems encountered for a pedagogical advance

Full textThe introduction of the new technologies in the device of training, for landing the geographical distance, can quite particularly have some influence on the educational practices which modifies strikingly all the elements of the system. Our research joins in the problem and the effect of the integration of the TIC on the innovation of the educational practice in university. To track down all the main factors which create brakes in the innovation and in the changes of the educational methods in the distance training. Our research results discover that the brakes of the innovation and in the changes are connected to the institutional, technological and educational contexts which constitute a whole set of conditions of development of the distance training with TIC. So, we noticed that there is an interdependent relation between these three dimensions of our model. Without the change of all the institutional, technological and educational plans, the educational innovation cannot succeed as we estimate it. Our empirical work shows the importance of the role of the guardian in a device of on-line formation, to answer the problems of abandonment through the dialogue, the accompaniment and the follow-up of learners. We clarify to show that in a device of on-line formation (e-learning), the relation of education is modified, the teacher, the trainer and learner participate interactively in the mutual practice of access to the knowledge. The roles of the teachers and the trainers, their modes of intervention which are transformed, entail a redefining of their territories, their identities, their statuses and their powers. What obliges the teaching world, notably university to undergo a profound alteration (transfer). We conclude finally, on the efficiency and the evaluation of this new device, so tracks to integrate better TIC into the distance training

This exploratory qualitative study focuses on the innovative application of the community of inquiry framework to synchronous online learning. This is the first study to report on efficient teaching strategies to foster a learning community in synchronous virtual graduate seminars and to explore this concrete application of blended online learning design. It is based on a multiple-case study (eight cases) that took place in five Francophone and Anglophone North American universities. Data collection consisted of forty hours of post facto observation of archived virtual seminars, sixty-one interviews conducted with faculty (n=9), teaching assistants (n=4), students (n=45) and instructional designers (n=3), as well as mid-term (n=50) and post-term (n=32) student surveys. The study confirms the importance of establishing a community of inquiry within a virtual graduate seminar. However, the socioconstructivist framework remains nebulous for several faculty and students, hence the importance of collaborative “culture” training. The study determines that socioconstructivist approaches contribute to the effectiveness of learning in virtual graduate seminars, identifies 30 attributes of a virtual graduate seminar and reports on 26 effective teaching practices that can be used to inform guidelines for quality online learning. It highlights the crucial role of the faculty member as the facilitator of a rich and ongoing dialogue in the virtual classroom. The multiple-case study reports high satisfaction levels among both faculty and students towards the virtual graduate seminar.

Full textThe starting point of this research is the examination of the meaning and of the scope of the disconnection introduced by the Université en ligne (UEL, Online University) between the design and the potential uses of pedagogical resources in higher education. Based upon the analysis of the digital resources developed within UEL as they appear on screen, this research shows that the conditions for using the resources are not independent from the processes the designers had in mind for using them. The uses, as they were planned, form as many “propositions” making up strategic and industrial schemes from which they get their full meaning. Beyond the case of UEL, the research analyses the conditions upon which the pedagogical resources are used a posteriori by other academics than those who designed them, and directly by students

The practices of change are led by collectives of grass-roots actors, university researchers, whereas in these large university institutions, change is traditionally led by strategic actors. A comparative international study conducted in French and Brazilian universities shows that practices of change, even if they are inferred by an international context, involve the structuring of the collective of grass-roots actors in an artefact-organization finalized around the new project. The actors thus engage in a strategy of communication, first to experiment change through an artefact-type of communication, the though an institutionalizing process. This search for recognition comes within the scope of an enlarged organization at infra, micro, meso, macro and metalevels, where power relationships create a twofold organisational recomposition : from change to university organisations-institutions, but also university organisations-institutions, but also from organisation-institutions to change, through the impetus given by the macrolevel

Full textIf the long distance training programs have evolved and benefited from information technologies in order to help the relationship between the learner and the knowledge, the systems that are in place have not been very successful. The reasons why people are reluctant to use such systems are probably due to the many obstacles that one must overcome in order to design, set up and carry out these training programs. In fact, before generalizing their use, it seemed useful to us to think about the obstacles that still needed to be removed. This way, our goals would have a chance to be achieved. Our first task was to try to identify the parameters that would help or hinder these new teaching practices. Thus, we could try to imagine and create favourable conditions that would enable us to overcome these difficulties. These conditions would mainly be actions to improve the efficiency of the training programs. These are called assumptions of action or “the assumptions that establish a link between a goal to obtain and an action to be set up. ”(Berthon 2000) In addition, we pose as an assumption that these devices are complex systems. In order for the actions undertaken by the designers to be relevant and effective, they must be induced by an analysis of the teaching institution, using a systematic approach. Regarding this assumption, the systematic approach of Engestrom, which skilfully combines these concepts into an organized whole, seemed to us, to be a useful resource, making it possible for us to induce the actions to be undertaken in this particular context of long-distance training through technologies. These actions were subsequently observed and studied, using this same framework( a framework which had already been used) for the designing of the system. Thus, our objective was to propose an approach which would enable us to conceive a relevant scenario of long distance training and to popularize it through the information technologies. Next, we could study the effects and the validity of the actions that this suggested

Full textInformation and communication technologies have borne much hope in Africa in all areas of economic and social life and especially in education. For higher education this hope is all that greater needs and challenges are many. The African University faces a threefold problem: mass numbers of students primarily at the undergraduate level, lack of educational facilities and lack of sufficient qualified teachers in a number. It is in this context ICT appear as a possible solution to overcome resolve these difficulties. On this momentum, with the other countries of the sub region, Senegal tries to use these technologies to reform and improve its higher education system. Indeed, with the increase in the number of colleges at the level of secondary education, the mass of the numbers of students exerts strong pressure on the University authorities. Each year, thousands of young graduates knock at their doors; It was then that ICT and e-learning appear as alternative to solve this equation trimmed of all virtues With the significant achievements in the field of computing and internet connectivity of UCAD, are difficult access conditions related to the mass of staff especially at the undergraduate level on the way to be solved?

Full textThe drop out in open and distance learning (ODL) is an important issue both for the learners and training organizations, whether for economic, social or image (self-image or brand image). The accompanying needs of learners are both technical, cognitive and meta-cognitive, and affective. The latter particularly interest us in this thesis to understand the drop out. To take account of the social dimension of the person and his relationship with teachers, peers or family, we will discuss socio-emotional dimension. To better define this dimension and understand the issues of mediated communication and the distance in training (as a social and technical object), we mobilize some authors from different disciplines of the humanities: Researchers in science of information and communication , psychologists and researchers in science education. We propose to characterize the socio-emotional dimension, thought of as a system, by an integrative model of emotions and sentiments offered by all of these researchers. This aspect will be studied in relation to the notion of persistence, which is the opposite of drop out. We wonder what are the socio-emotional factors behind the drop out in distance learning, or conversely perseverance? The importance of interactions within (with teachers and other learners) and outside the training device (with family) and individual factors of learners (eg sociodemographic) are questioned. To answer these questions, an investigation into two parts (in beginning - expectations - and in end of training - experience) and semi-directive interviews were conducted. The first results reflect the differences between initial expectations and experiences of training, more or less important according learners. The drop out appears explainable by analyzing the socio-emotional dimension, especially in relations with the actors of the device. While some students suffer isolation due to a lack of relationship with teachers, others compensate by establishing a relationship with their peers. Finally, relatives occupy an essential place for learners who live in families and are waiting their support

Full textThe higher education system in Morocco has long been based on traditional face-to-face training. Learners are required to attend all courses sessions throughout their training. At the present time, with the availability of online courses such as MOOC (Massive Open online courses), and the appearance of LMS (Learning management content) platforms like Moodle, several courses in particular and training in general are available free of charge online. The follow-up of distance courses could be a solution to the problem of the massification of higher education in Morocco, contribute to improving the level, improve the motivation and involvement of learners in the use of ICT4E (Information and Communication Technologies for Education). Our research aims to evaluate different hybrid learning situations (face-to-face and distance learning) for Moroccan university learners in coherence with a theoretical framework that is mainly inspired by the activity theory. To concretize our research, we carried out three experiments of hybrid training using MOOC. These experiments were carried out with some university training modules as part of higher education courses in the public and private sectors. The objective of these experiments was to evaluate the motivation, satisfaction and appropriation of this new techno-pedagogical approach and to issue recommendations to the various actors (learners, teachers, institutions) on the integration of hybrid training in higher education in Morocco

Full textWith the development of Internet and Web 2.0, distance learning has benefitted from unprecedented technological advances for the last twenty years. This technological innovation context encourages to put aside the reflection on distance, as a physical separation, for the benefit of the one of presence, by building on the social and collective dimensions of learning. The concept of « presence » in distance learning, most extensively studied in North America, is in France the object of a recent modelling by Jézégou (2012, 2019, 2020). Here, the author treats presence as the result of a relational, collective and publicized dynamic. Thus, this theoretical model of the Social Presence in e-Formation adopts the principle according to which some forms of social interactions during collective activities enable to create a presence in between learners, as well as between learners and teachers/trainers, within a numeric communication environment. This Ph.D. thesis carries on the trail of this model which it contributes through the implementation of predominantly empirical research. It consists of two empirical components and is based on a comprehensive and inductive approach. Its purpose is to understand the way which some learners, involved in a system of online learning, can sense the presence of their peers from the moment they start interacting with them within the framework of carrying out small group collective activities. The body of evidence is composed of thirty-six individual interviews carried out between 2018 and 2020. Thirty learners, from two promotions involved in the same online learning system, have contributed to the research. Firstly, two quantitative analysis done by statistic treatment of qualitative data give a synoptic view of the vocabulary used in the learners’ language. The results of the analysis show the importance that these learners attach to the socio-affective dimension of the interactions between peers. In a second step, three qualitative analysis, performed by analysing with the help of conceptualizing categories (Paillé et Mucchielli, 2016), enable to get deeper into the understanding of the socio-affective dimension of the interactions between peers and, in fine, to contribute to a conceptualisation of the socio-affective presence in on-line learning. These results highlight the importance of a self-recognition by the others, of a relational intimacy, a comforting social environment and a sense of community to develop an interactional dynamic and, thus, a socio-affective presence. These results, put into perspective in the form of a discussion, will support this theoretical construction

Full textThe goal of this thesis is to assess the online tutoring through an analysis of tutoring interactions between students and tutors using digital communication tools during distance and online institutional education. The objective is to identify indexes that can be referential in determining cross-cutting tutorial activity. It is an attempt to understand the process of determining the specificities of the missions of tutors and the expectations of their participation in teaching and learning with the view to establish an cross-cutting tutoring activity and its implementation in distance education for the university. The theoretical framework is that of ethnography in its theory (empirical approach) and its methodological approaches. We are preparing a survey in order to observe tutoring-based interactions which focus on guiding students not in a specific discipline, but rather in a cross-section of disciplines, characterised by discussions between Master’s Degree students and a tutor for two years. The multi-modality of tutoring will lead to the collection of data resulting from digital communication tools (both synchronous and non-synchronous). The data will thus be composed of both written traces left by students in discussion forums, email and in synchronous conversations. Conversations carried out within this context will thus enable the analysis of the phenomena obtained during the survey. This study thus serves as an opportunity to compare the academic duty of online tutors and the reality of their place in distance education and to provide the way forward for a better integration of online tutoring into education. The overall goal is to come up with a prototype of tutoring activities with the view to create an online tutoring in digital education

This thesis presents the results and contributions of an investigative study on a pedagogical model for the development of teaching competencies in Accounting Higher Education. Previous studies in the accounting area have come close to the identification of teaching competencies and evidenced that teachers do not receive an appropriate pedagogical education and lack training in the Information and Communication Technologies. Based on this context, the objective of this research was to investigate how the Pedagogical Model for the Development of Teaching Competencies in Accounting Distance Learning (MPCCEaD) can contribute to the development of teaching competencies of professors in the professional education axis composed of Accountancy undergraduate courses in Brazil. The model was built based on theoretical concepts according to the genetic epistemology theory of Jean Piaget and pedagogical architectures oriented to Distance Learning, as conceived by Patrícia Alejandra Behar. The research had an applied nature, with a qualitative approach of the research problem and quantitative elements, descriptive in terms of the building objectives of the model and exploratory in the mapping of competencies. For such, multiple technical procedures have been used for the collection and analysis of data, at different moments of the research. The subjects of the research were professors of Accountancy undergraduate courses in Brazil. Initially, teaching competencies were mapped through bibliographical research and validated by the technical procedure of survey carried out with the 378 subjects. A Matrix of Teaching Competencies resulted from this stage, composed of a set of eighteen teaching competencies classified as Educational, Cognitive, Social and Academic, encompassing the breadth of teaching, research and extension inherent in the nature of the higher education teaching. In the subsequent stage, the MPCCEaD was built and empirically validated by means of a training course with professors from the sample. The Model brings the vision of teaching and learning process centered on the learner's activity in the construction of knowledge and the development of teaching competencies in accounting, with the Distance Education fundamentals. These include organizational aspects, content, methodological and technological aspects and application strategies grounded in constructivist epistemological assumption. The construction of the MPCCEaD, of interdisciplinary interface for other areas of knowledge, extends and deepens the training held in stricto sensu program and improves with the proposed pedagogical skills of teachers in the accounting area. The application of the MPCCEaD promoted a reflection of professors-students on their pedagogical practices according to the new concepts. These concepts allow it to have theoretical conditions to review their actions, beliefs, identify its contradictions and realize awakenings that provide reorganizations and reconstructions of their teaching practices, contributing to innovations in models adopted by teachers. In turn, the research product Competency Matrix Professors in Accounting subsidizes institutional policies linked to the continuing education of teachers of undergraduate courses in Accounting and proposing initiatives to develop them systematically. The mapping done provides the basis for future revisions of teaching competencies in accounting and supports research in other fields of knowledge. By having mapped the constitutive elements of specific teaching competencies for professors in the accounting area and by having conceived a stricto sensu pedagogical model, this study aims at contributing to the continuous education of Higher Education professors in the Accountancy area, in the context of distance learning in Brazil. Therefore, the Thesis is a research product with practical use in the construction of specific teaching competencies of Higher Education, in general and particularly in Accounting, benefiting the academic community and approaching the Research Society.

Full textThe language is undoubtedly the reflection of a culture and it allows two peoples not only to communicate but also to discover each other. It is the reason why this work aims at answering two objectives: the first one is to optimize the languages teaching, here French in Korea, the second is to favour the exchanges between our two countries by measuring the cultural significance conveyed by a language. For this we tried to identify the constraints of the learning of French by describing the interactions between French native teachers and Korean learners in the higher education in Korea. The constitution of a corpus of authenticinteractions putting in touch 180 Korean learners with 7 teachers through 13 courses of FLE allowed to describe interactionnels recurring phenomena of sociolinguistic type. The linguistic great distance separating French of the Korean showed itself by incomprehensions and phonetic, morphosyntactic and semantic misunderstandings of origin stemming from transfers between both languages. To overcome these linguistic difficulties, we recommend to accompany the grammar courses with an immersion in target language by courses of conversation. But our study shows how many the learning habits of the Korean learners, between silences, laughter of embarrassments, nods and other palliative illustrative gestures in linguistic deficiencies, must be taken into account in any didactic approach

Full textThis work lies within the framework both of a research on open access Web portals and of the introduction of educational technologies. It is based on the anthropological theory of the didactic that studies knowledge diffusion in society and offers a reference framework to analyse the functioning of didactic systems instrumented by technologies. Our research studies the Thermoptim-UNIT portal and its open access educational resources portal. In order to study the effects of introducing this educational setting on the teaching of the discipline, we first consider the situation of teaching thermodynamics applied to energetic systems in the specific context of MINES ParisTech graduate school, to understand how and under which conditions and constraints the diffusion and transposition of this science are operating in society. We then examine the role played by the progressive introduction of educational technologies on teaching the discipline. Our methodology first relies on the analysis of activity traces on the portal, then on questionnaire surveys and user interviews. Looking more specifically at the effects of the educational setting on teachers’ work, our study is organised into two major research axes: 1/ the effects of technologies and the use of learning technologies on the didactical transposition of thermodynamics applied to energetic systems; 2/ the perceptible and declared effects of the use of this setting for teaching the discipline

Full textThis document suggests understanding better the educational functionings and communicationnels of two devices of learning within the same university department: the case of a License in Sciences of the information and the communication. This comprehensive approach with exploratory aim leaves the postulate that the sense builds itself only in situation and in interaction the device of learning, so adopting a épistémologique position outcome of a " constructivist agreement ". The research wishes to understand how are learners co-build their collective reality through their significant experiences of learning. The emergence of models of reading stemming from the double analytical anchoring (methods of the qualitative systematism and of semiotics situationnelle) also highlights the dynamics and the logic of the systems, the rules of the game and the latent debate between the actors in presence. In addition to this communicationnelle reading, this research with aim heuristics offers a wide answer in methodological term (in particular through the proposition of the gradual dialectical technique). It is in the sense that this document represents a first base so as to base a more empirical reflection, both on the methods of analysis and on the place of information technologies and communication in the current university landscape

How to explain the event that some students + choose ; to integrate atypical formations (by their sex membership) where, maybe, their lucks to success are reduced by the drawback forms which can involve such formations ? those specific devices to the direction procedure come from differentiated practices, not in keeping with all of representations and social thoughts reduce to an authoritarian label definited by all trajectories of some and others. The direction is not only considered as a calculation utilitarian ends, she makes use of quite a process of decision taking which is important to put forward, so much he gives some informations about the complexity of the established game. The decision making will make up three analysis levels : - the preparation : with the making use of believers, values and representations. - the decision : it's the making use of knowledges, skills. . . - the fullfilment : research to go toward a solution which could be the more accordance with expectations. All the time of these two first phases, we are present at the putting into place of numerous mini-decisions among which participate different actors relatively independent some one compared to the others, but strategicly linked each other (friends, classrom friends, parents, teachers, orientation councillor, professionals. . . ). It's the interactive system construction, where everyone reasons about a limited number of alternatives solutions, among group of behavours or actions possibilities. From here, we go into a relationnal universe, constituent in a exchange relation system from which the social actors express themselves, and which the working will be not only the result of school constraints, but a world of actors relatively free used the power sources and particulary the information sources putting to their dispositions. This decision, so, cannot to come down to one only individual and to reflect one only rationality

Full textThe world is changing fast. The economy based on the production and diffusion of knowledge becomes the main development tendency of the 21rst century. In a globalized world with the advanced technologies, each country has to face at the same time the opportunities and the challenges. The importance is the adaptability of each system in order to make full use of available sources and maximise the benefits from the globalization. In this context, the pressure is put on the universities who play the primary role in the knowledge based economy. The higher education system of Vietnam is recently reformed like other systems in the world in order to be able to satisfy the demand of society and of economic growth. In the transmission of planning mechanism to almost liberal one, the universities face many big difficulties for integrating into the international higher education community. Furthermore, the presence of foreign investors and the participation of private sector in the service make the situation more complicated and difficult. In this reform process, the identification of the role of the State and its partners in the management is extremely important in order to obtain the efficiency of the system. Besides, the experiences of French and UK universities help to clarify the reforms in Vietnamese system

Full textHigher education is structured around a tension between two fundamental principles of all democracies : equality and merit. By opening access to higher education, the process of massification is transforming the means to resolve this tension. How can one reconcile the necessity of a meritocratic system in societies that only have very few places at their head, with worldwide demands of equality that encourage universities to produce more justice ? How can one move from the reproduction of society to its production ? To these shared question, the American, Indonesian and French systems each answer in their own way, according to the perception their respective societies have of themselves, but also according to students' capability to become actors of their own system, to make their claims heard, and to transform their study environments. By comparing these three systems, this research shows how the admission moment of the highschool students in higher education crystallizes the whole of these tensions. The means of selection put forward how each society perceives and produces legitimate identities, the distribution system of students within the university, and how their encounter allows students' integration in a study environment which can also be a life environment. The diversity of these local contexts does not prevent a shared tendancy : the university's increasing autonomy that puts forward as necessary the diversity of their respective roles by recruiting identified student populations. Whichever the higher education system studied, a process of convergence is at work, that not only concerns the system's way of functioning, but also, and most importantly, that claims to recognize individual identities

It must now find solutions for each particular problem, whereas it traditionally concerned with equal treatment all treatment of all students. Thanks to numerous awareness programs, disables students have gained their rightful place within the university. No longer discriminated against, the have become an indication of proper functioning of the institutional system, and their presence is a source of general progress. But to raise the question of handicap leads to the question of accessibility. This concept in multiple begins the process of rephrasing the notion of handicap from its medical context, to viewing it as an inadequacy between individuals and their environment. Generalized in this way, everyone must recognize that it may have to deal with a handicap at some point

Full textThis doctoral thesis examines the impact of international aid agencies on the reform agenda of North African countries. It analyses and compares the paths of higher education reform (1997-2007) in Egypt and Morocco, using analytical instruments pertaining to new approaches in public policy theory. For a long time, both countries appeared relatively immune against reform pressure from outside. Still, the analysis of their reform processes shows that the internationalization of higher education has been high on the agenda in both countries. Moreover, the participatory approach - as promoted by international aid agencies like the World Bank as part of its governance agenda - is practised in pushing through unpopular reform measures : in both countries stakeholders from political parties, non-governmental organization and the private sector took part in the reform process. The establishment of committees and commissions emerged as an important tool for those authoritarian regimes to widen their scope of participation. It is to be axamined how specific instruments, promoted by international organizations and bilateral donors, are integrated into a setting of authoritarian rule. The policy transfer between donors and recipients is relatively smooth as long as it concerns the realm of policies and a rather diffuse way towards internationalization through the implementation of foreign reform instruments in the university sector. Modes of transfer grow more subtle when the realms of power and politics are affected. This book provides an insight into the way authoritarian rulers adapt international reform commissions and committees, their members and their institutional environment. I shall argue that international aid agencies even provide the necessary support for this process of authoritarian consolidation, albeit non-intentionally and rather as an unintended consequence of their engagement. The comparison of Egypt's and Morocco's reform processes by means of an analysis of a specific sector (e. G. Higher education) serves as a microanalysis to understand how authoritarian regimes work. It also helps to understand the varieties of authoritarian regimes. Morocco was and is able to formulate a more comprehensive reform of its higher education system. The country demonstrates greater flexibility due to its monarchical system and its pluralistic nature. Egypt under Mubarak only applied a piecemeal type of reform, partly due to its rigid form of pluralism in a quasi-one-party system. Still, Morocco's flexibility should not be confused with a greater openness of its political arena. It is linked to a specific pattern of pluralism that is reproduced through the aforementioned reform processes

It starts by presenting the main stages of the construction of the national and regional higher education area. It then sets out to analyse the influence of the training courses proposed by the Université de Franche-Comté and the competition from neighbouring universities. This thesis seeks to point out the elements which account for students' mobility. It eventually develops two sides of the socioeconomic impact of higher education facilities : one relates to the influence of the contractual relationships of the local research laboratories and the other one to the students' way of life and their sociocultural habits

Full textHigher education in Africa is often confronted with severe problems mainly due to the difficulties that postgraduates find in inserting themselves in a hybrid and poorly diversified economy. This situation is particularly revealing in Mali. A study of evolution of higher education in this country in a span of twenty years shows that the ratio between supply and demand was adequate for the first ten years where as the second tenyear period shows a serious deterioration in the higer educational field, in spite of an original educational reform adapted to the country. This situation is all the more alarming as education at this level proves to be very costly as well as inadequate. This will be shown clearly by a quantitative analysis made from the naional budget and a qualitative analysis giving details of the situation in the schools for higher education themselves. Is such a heavy financial burden on the country of any real use? What are the remedies at hand? Modifications such as the creation of shorter higher education programs, self-financing projects. . . Are necessary and urgent but the consequential effects of such measures on the social system have to be considered carefully. In the end, the decision is in the hands of the politicians

Full textOur purpose is to study the 2 systems of higher education in iran: the "talabegui" system and the university system. Precisely, we aim at a comparative study of the 2 systems. By school or "talabegui" system, we mean college institues with an organization of their own, where students from different training and age are instructed according to the rules and conception of the islamic education. By universitary system, we mean institutions where students with the same level of education and almost the same age are taught according to western rules.
