Abstract:
PurposeResearchers have been trying to identify different psychological attributes which influence entrepreneurial intention (EI) and role of entrepreneurial education and training programs to develop these attributes among women. Therefore, the purpose of this study is twofold: firstly, to evaluate the difference among psychological attributes before and after an entrepreneurial education and training program. Secondly, to examine the effects of psychological attributes on EI among female students in Saudi Arabia.Design/methodology/approachA detailed program was designed with the combination of entrepreneurial education and training program throughout a 14-week semester. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from 310 female university students studying in a Saudi university and participated in this program. SPSS, version 20, was used to analyze the data.FindingsEntrepreneurial education and training programs based on active learning and learner-centered approaches play an important role to significantly improve the level of psychological attributes and EI of female students. Furthermore, findings of this study also suggest that psychological attributes (training retention, self-confidence, tolerance of ambiguity, innovativeness and achievement motivation) positively influence EI.Originality/valuePrevious studies only focused on relationship testing among psychological attributes and EI. This research proposes strategies to design entrepreneurial education and training program to improve psychological attributes and EI which can be considered practical version of EntreComp conceptual model.

Abstract:
Using a case study, the process by which a university in the UK sought to implement its strategic objective to become an entrepreneurial university, by defining a set of desirable entrepreneurial attributes for all staff, is examined. It is concluded that the role of leaders, in connecting the desirable entrepreneurial attributes to the day-to-day-work of staff, is vital if an entrepreneurial culture is to be established throughout a university. Key aspects of entrepreneurial leadership that can support university–industry interaction are recommended.

Abstract:
In 2001/2002 a study was undertaken to establish whether significant differences existed between the levels of development of several entrepreneurial attributes, as perceived by undergraduate business students from three universities in three different countries. The rationale was that, if entrepreneurial attributes could be identified as more developed in one country than in another, solutions could be provided for developing these attributes in others. The primary objective of this study is to investigate and compare the levels of development of entrepreneurial attributes of undergraduate business students in the present study (2010) to the levels of development reported by undergraduate business students in the 2001/2002 study. Cronbach alpha coefficients were calculated to assess the reliability of the measuring instrument and ttests to establish significant differences. Cohen’s d statistics were calculated to establish practical significance. The findings suggest that the educational environment and entrepreneurship education policy of the Dutch university participating in this study could provide solutions as to how entrepreneurial attributes among students could be developed further.

Abstract:
In the context of public universities the use of the entrepreneurial orientation construct is not widespread and still there is no precise definition of what it means. It is, in fact, necessary to consider the peculiarities of universities and then adopt a coherent operationalization of the construct. The main aim of this paper is to identify the determinant attributes of the entrepreneurial orientation within the Italian universities. To this aim, the study moves from a recent and innovative definition of the public universities' entrepreneurial orientation proposed in the literature, and is based on survey data from 103 Italian university departments. A multiple regression analysis and an importance-performance analysis are used to investigate the relationship between the dimensions and the single items used to operationalize the entrepreneurial orientation and the entrepreneurial orientation perceived by the surveyed department heads. The findings show that not all the dimensions and the items considered affect in the same way the Italian university entrepreneurial orientation. Implications and limitations are discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine export behaviour from a broad perspective considering the influence of entrepreneurial attributes on export entry, export sustainability and de-internationalisation in Romanian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach – Based on theoretical underpinnings from the resource-based view (RBV) of the firm and the Institutional Economics (IE) framework, the proposed hypotheses are tested with a rich survey data set of 319 Romanian SMEs. The data are analysed by means of a multinomial logit regression. Findings – The study reveals that exporting is not a single event and that variables commonly used to study export propensity linked to the entrepreneurial attributes have a differential influence over the export decisions. More concretely, export entry is positively impacted by the presence of management studies and an entrepreneurial team while sustainment in the international arena is strongly and positively influenced by decision-makers’ prior labour experience. De-internationalisation is explained by the entrepreneurs’ fear of business failure. The conclusions of this study point towards a holistic view of export policy making revealing relevant implications for SMEs’ internationalisation. Originality/value – This study enriches the international business literature by simultaneously examining different export decisions, namely export initiation, sustainability and de-internationalisation, at the SMEs’ level in a Central and Eastern European (CEE) emerging market. The paper also highlights the dynamic character of entrepreneurial resources and suggests that at distinct stages in the international development of a SME, different entrepreneurial attributes may play a significant role.

Abstract:
To improve and develop South Africa’s entrepreneurial activity, it is vital that the population acquires certain attributes which are common among individuals who exhibit entrepreneurial behaviour. As the occurrence of entrepreneurial attributes increases in the population, so too will the probability of entrepreneurial behaviour and entrepreneurial activity. A possible first step in ensuring that a population possesses the necessary attributes is to assess the current levels of development of these entrepreneurial attributes among students of business. Underdeveloped attributes can then be identified, and steps taken to bring about improvements. The primary objective of this study was to assess the entrepreneurial attributes of undergraduate business students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. In order to achieve this objective an in-depth analysis of secondary sources was conducted. The nature of entrepreneurship was defined and its importance highlighted. Furthermore, the status of entrepreneurship both globally and nationally was elaborated on. Entrepreneurship education was also addressed, and its role in developing entrepreneurial attributes was discussed. The 16 entrepreneurial attributes associated with successful entrepreneurs were described. The most commonly used intentions-based models were also discussed. In line with the intentions-based theories, the greater the perception of possessing the attributes associated with a successful entrepreneur by an individual, the greater the belief by that individual that he or she has the capacity and competence to become an entrepreneur, which in turn will influence their entrepreneurial intentions. Against the background of the literature overview, several hypotheses were formulated and subjected to empirical testing. A quantitative research approach was selected, the sample consisting of all undergraduate business students studying at three South African universities as well as two international universities. Convenience sampling was implemented in this study. The validity of the measuring instrument was determined by means of a factor analysis, and the reliability by means of calculating Cronbach alpha coefficients. The statistical techniques used to analyse the data included calculating descriptive statistics (the mean, standard deviation and frequency distributions), t-tests and Cohen’s d, a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA), an analysis of variance (ANOVA), Chi-squared statistic, and Cramer’s V. The results of the study show that NMMU students regarded the attributes Commitment, High energy level, Planning and perseverance and Overcoming failure as the four most-developed attributes, while they regarded Continuous learning, Knowledge-seeking, Initiative and responsibility and Communication ability as the least-developed. With the exception of the attributes Commitment and Overcoming failure, the level of development of the entrepreneurial attributes of NMMU students showed significant improvement between the 2001 and the 2010 studies. With the exception of Continuous learning, no significant differences were reported in the levels of development of the various entrepreneurial attributes between students at NMMU and students at the other South African universities participating in the study. When comparing the significant differences in the level of development of the 16 entrepreneurial attributes between NMMU and the international universities, a large practical significance was found for the attributes High energy level, Continuous learning and Knowledge seeking. For the attributes Planning and perseverance, Communication ability, Overcoming failure, Initiative and responsibility, High energy level, Creativity and flexibility, Knowledge seeking, Continuous learning, Financial proficiency and Business knowledge, students with entrepreneurial intentions reported significantly higher mean scores than students without entrepreneurial intentions. In other words, students with higher levels of development of these attributes are more likely to have entrepreneurial intentions. It was also found that significant differences in the levels of development of entrepreneurial attributes were reported for the demographic variables Levels of study, Gender and Age. No significant differences were found to exist between the demographic variables Level of study, Gender and Self-employment status of parents and the Entrepreneurial intention of NMMU students. This study has contributed to the field of entrepreneurship research by identifying several entrepreneurial attributes that are more likely to be found in students with entrepreneurial intentions than those without them. This study has also shown that certain demographic factors are related to the levels of development of certain entrepreneurial attributes, as well as to entrepreneurial intentions. Furthermore, through the assessment of entrepreneurial attributes of NMMU students and by making comparisons with other universities, this study has contributed to entrepreneurship education at NMMU as well as to entrepreneurship education in South Africa and abroad. Educators of entrepreneurship have been given insights into the levels of development of several entrepreneurial attributes among their students. In addition, recommendations have been made on how to improve the levels of development of the attributes investigated in this study.

Entrepreneurship is a distinctively individual concept. The individual entrepreneur works on his or her own to create a new business. Employees on the other hand function within the boundaries of the company. Employees that behave entrepreneurially collectively create the phenomenon of corporate entrepreneurship. In this thesis, we study the most common and overarching traits, characteristics and attributes of individual entrepreneurs. We analyze the most commonly prevalent traits and analyze how companies can be structured to foster strong sustainable corporate entrepreneurial ecosystems. The research also evaluates different corporate entrepreneurial models, types and frameworks through analyzing existing processes for creating corporate entrepreneurship and new business development. We explore concepts such as corporate venturing, corporate new business development, intrapreneurship, joint venturing, alliances, entrepreneurial human resource management, entrepreneurial organizational designs and business model innovation strategies. Specific companies that exemplified specific corporate entrepreneurship processes were analyzed such as DuPont 3M, IBM and Degussa AG. The concept of corporate entrepreneurship is instrumental in creating growth for companies but also could be a source of risk, where the example of Samsung Motors describes some of the negative impacts of corporate diversification. The research considers sustainable approaches for successfully implementing corporate entrepreneurship and new business develop and focus is given on the human interactions between the employee and the company.

Abstract:
This thesis describes the connection between mundane societalentrepreneurship and local area development in a rural sparsely populatedcontext. It is a qualitative study from a holistic view on the actors. The empiricalwork consists of three deep case studies from one of the most sparsely populatedregions in Europe. The ongoing activities in these rural villages are described fromdifferent perspectives focused on who is the local entrepreneur and how did theyachieve what they have done. The method was to listen to the whole story fromdifferent perspectives. The results from the deep interviews were thematicallyanalysed to find similarities between the different cases. These similarities werethen the base for a new model of the attributes needed among the actors in avillage to reach local area development and one model of what roles a localentrepreneur can play to start up activities for local area development. One key result in the study was the varieties of reasons to act among the actorsand their similarities in results on the local area development. Regardless of whattheir motivation was according to different kinds of entrepreneurship models, theiractions all had similar effect on the local area development. The main scientific counts here were; the connection between mundane actionsand their role to teach and inspire others to start acting or learn more about specificfields. One other empirical contribution is the importance of having fun whiledeveloping networks and making volunteers work hard to reach a common goal. The Model of Attributes needed for Local Area Development from a holistic actorperspective and the similar results in local area development regardless of theentrepreneurial motivation to act in the different cases are other contributions.

Most economists, international and regional institutions, such as the United Nations and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), agree that entrepreneurship is essential to the economy of nowadays in any developed or developing country. Entrepreneurship aims to promote economic growth, to stimulate employment rate, to mobilize resources and to create job opportunities in any society. In the developing world, successful small businesses are the primary engines of job creation, income growth, and poverty reduction. In developed countries, it aids to keep the continuity of the national economy. Entrepreneurship has a leading role in global economic development and has been considered, for a long time, as an activity dominated by male. Since these last decades, the role and characteristics of women’s entrepreneurs started to make noise and captivate attention in worldwide. In 2012, an estimated 126 million women were starting or running new businesses in 67 economies around the world. In addition, an estimated 98 million were running established businesses (GEM). By using data provided by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), we examine the factors that increase the motivation of female individuals to engage in a business start-up. Through collected data by WVS, we want to verify the supposed influence of cultural factors on this entrepreneurial willingness. The results reveal that personal attributes and entrepreneurial attitudes are associated with entrepreneurial intention, while culture seems to stand negatively to our hypothesis. Also, we provide evidence that those female individuals who have perceived that they possess the knowledge, skills to start a new business and who have an entrepreneurial network are more likely to engage in a business start-up. Keywords: entrepreneurship, entrepreneur, personal attributes, entrepreneurial attitudes, female individuals, GEM, WVS, Grid-group theory, culture.

Since 1980, EO (entrepreneurial orientation) that has been a central concept in entrepreneurship theory is viewed as being a critical source of firm performance. This dissertation focuses on the relationship between EO and firm performance from outside-in and inside-out views in the field of strategic management. Therefore, two central issues are proposed and tested in this dissertation as follows. First, this dissertation examines how entrepreneurial orientation, resource attributes, and firm performance are related. Resource attributes refer to the value and rareness of resource–capability combinations (value and rareness), and are proposed to mediate the relationship between EO and firm performance. Second, this dissertation further proposes whether EO is positively associated with resource attributes when firms face a certain contingency, specifically, the dynamism of external environment. Based on data collected from 201 public firms in Taiwan, the statistical results show that firms with strong EO are likely to exploit valuable and rare. Although the value and rareness don’t mediate the relationship between EO and firm performance (ROA and Tobin’s q), they positively mediate the association between EO and firm performance (competitive advantage and satisfaction), supporting the resource-based perspective of entrepreneurship. Moreover, it is found that the EO-resource attributes relationship is further moderated by environmental dynamism. That is, when firms are located in environmental dynamism, EO is likely to exploit valuable and rare resources and capabilities to respond external opportunities.

Abstract:
The high unemployment rate, especially amongst schoolleavers could be counterbalanced by raising awareness of entrepreneurship as a career option. This investigation explores the relationship of entrepreneurial attitude, entrepreneurship and who the entrepreneur is, as is presented in the literature. The focus has shifted from testing for personality traits to identifying entrepreneurial attitude, attributes, behaviour and activities. A questionnaire, the GET (General Enterprising Tendencies test) was used to determine the levels of entrepreneurial attitude amongst a group of grade ll learners in three South African secondary schools, with the aim of raising awareness of their personal levels of entrepreneurial attitude and making them aware of entrepreneurship as a career option. It was found that inter alia, a culture of entrepreneurship is not prevalent amongst learners and prospective school leavers in South Africa.

Bezuidenhout, Mareli. "The development and evaluation of a measure of graduate employability in the context of the new world of work." Diss., 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/28552.

Full text
Abstract:
Rapid forces for change in the post-modern society have left their mark on the labour market, creating a metamorphosis in the nature of work and the way in which careers should be approached. This has resulted in the need for individuals to possess a combination of attributes that will enable them to take an adaptive, proactive approach to their careers, which involves managing their employability. Employability is especially relevant to graduates, who are expected to acquire more than academic capabilities to ‘hit the ground running’ in their transition from higher education to the workplace. Despite the significance of the topic, it remains conceptually ambiguous with few empirical studies that explain its foundation, and fewer still that have constructed a measure explicitly gauging employability, particularly in South Africa. The main purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a measure of graduate employability in the context of the new world of work. A theoretical model of graduate employability was developed based on an extensive review of the literature and the Graduate Employability Measure (GEM) was subsequently constructed. A cross-sectional survey was utilised to collect data from a random sample of final-year undergraduates and postgraduates from the College of Economic and Management Sciences at a higher distance learning institution in South Africa. The 272 useable questionnaires returned were subjected to exploratory factor analysis, which revealed a reliable three-factor model consisting of the dimensions of career self-management drive, career resilience and cultural competence, and explaining 36.42%, 3.5% and 2.97% of the variance respectively. Analysis of variance was used to determine whether there were any significant differences between the biographical variables of the sample and the GEM factors. It was found that females and final-year undergraduates obtained significantly higher means on all the GEM dimensions than males and postgraduates respectively. The findings inform the conceptualisation of the employability construct, the elements it consists of, and how it can be measured in a valid and reliable manner. The GEM has the potential to be useful to students in a career guidance context, to employers that desire to select and develop highly adaptable employees, and to higher education, which can incorporate these important employability attributes in the curriculum to deliver highly employable graduates.

Entrepreneurial education is crucial to help young people develop entrepreneurial skills, attributes, and behaviour, as well as to embrace entrepreneurship as a career option.

Abstract:
This study investigates the extent of influence of succession planning on Thai FOBs focusing on SMEs, and the attributes/characteristics of the successors to achieve a successful family business. SMEs were identified using Thai government classifications. A total of 449 usable questionnaires were obtained from Thai FOB owners/managers in Bangkok and vicinity. Most of the firms surveyed were small FOBs. The results show that there is a higher degree of success between FOBs that have succession plan and those that do not. The results also revealed five new factors concerning Thai family-owned businesses (SMEs) succession planning. The five factors are shown in this chapter.

Abstract:
These days, there is little doubt that entrepreneurial competencies—such as, taking initiative and being creative, planning and managing organizations' activities, showing persistence in problem solving processes as well as realizing the goals for which companies were established—are one of businesses' most important tools. Consequently, the following questions come naturally into the discussion: What is it that most of the successful entrepreneurs have in common? Is it education, risk affinity, experience, networks, family money, race, gender or, simply put, pure luck? Starting from the assumption that the vast majority of these people have, as common denominator, a cross-section of attributes and skills: firstly, this scientific study has the purpose of developing a model for entrepreneurship competencies, focusing on: innovation, knowledge management and intellectual capital; and secondly, this complex research has the aim of building an inclusive entrepreneurship model, tackling three main organizational targets: efficiency, productivity and performance.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the concepts and issues of SME techno-entrepreneurship in ICT clusters. An integrative literature review was adopted and three purposively selected ICT clusters were observed. The chapter provides a conceptual framing of techno-entrepreneurship practices and identifies attributes of SME techno-entrepreneurship in Nigeria, its relevance to the ICT ecosystem growth as well as national development. The chapter identifies a frugal mindset, frugal processes, networking, innovative behaviour, and frugal outcome as key attributes of SME techno-entrepreneurs operating out of ICT clusters. By linking techno-entrepreneurship with frugal innovation, the chapter further proposes a model of SME techno-entrepreneurial practices in ICT clusters which highlights the various stages and processes of cluster SME techno-entrepreneurship. The paper concludes with a section on challenges and opportunities of SME techno-entrepreneurship in Nigeria.

Abstract:
Innovation, and especially innovation leadership, is a critical factor in enhancing a firm’s success in today’s changing markets. This research investigates changes in the entrepreneurial leadership attributes amid the fourth industrial revolution and how these changes relate to the fast pace of technology advancement. As part of the fourth industrial revolution, the barrier to introducing innovative technology has decreased due to the accessibility of high-end commercial capabilities, such as cloud computing, big-data capacities, open-source codes, and more, which reduce their need for in-house development. This research taps into the current academic knowledge gap and aims to understand how leadership traits (or attributes) may help fully exploit this significant revolution’s advantages and gain a competitive advantage over rivals. This paper also contributes to the knowledge of innovation study and entrepreneur leadership study. The research utilizes automated techniques of content analysis of published interviews and entrepreneurs’ biographies from recent years and the distant past. The results reveal that current entrepreneurs tend to be open-minded while avoiding rejecting innovation from other firms (avoiding “the not invented here” concept) and are willing to share the experience with the adjacent technology eco-system. The main conclusion of the research is that the entrepreneur in the current era should utilize the open innovation eco-system and gather the ingredients for innovation initiatives, and also have the ability to accurately seek the best offthe- shelf solution to use and integrate it while avoiding time- and budget-consuming development procedures.

Abstract:
The academic landscape is changing in the course of New Public Management (NPM). More duties are assigned to universities and as a result transferred to their faculties. Management knowledge is needed for solving the problem of higher requirements for deans in terms of distribution of resources, responsibility for personal and finances. Until now, deans do not necessarily have this knowledge. One crucial approach for this problem is professionalization, which can take shape in various forms, e. g. in establishing positions for a new occupational group of academia professionals. To reach the organization’s objective in an effective and efficient way, there is no best solution corresponding to the contingency approach, it rather depends on the framework requirements. The results of an empiric inquiry of framework requirements and deanery attributes on four German universities show that the infrastructures of the faculties as decentral units depend less on the size of the faculty, but very strong on university’s organizational setting. This becomes apparent by the fact that at an elite university with strong research activities and with the profile of an entrepreneurial university, but with small framework requirements in the faculties has established many positions of academia professionals. Smaller universities, but also big multi-discipline universities with scientific excellence don’t reach as many academia professionals in spite of having big framework requirements.

Alabi, Femi Adeoye. "Offshore LNG and Gas Monetization." In Offshore Technology Conference. OTC, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.4043/31136-ms.

Abstract:
Objectives/Scope In recent years, there has exceptional expansion of the liquefied natural gas industry (LNG), which is largely attributed to rising demands in various parts of the world and triggered the emergence of Floating LNG (FLNG) as a faster and more cost-effective strategy for exploitation of gas resources with a huge competitive advantage in the business activities. However, the introduction of new technologies comes with new requirements for tax related issues. Methods, Procedures, Process It is a testament to the resilience and adaptableness of the LNG business to check the hypothesis that FLNG provides a method by that stranded gas discoveries will be monetized and essentially within a shorter time, lower fabrication execution risk and the entrepreneurial vibrancy that comes from competitive suppliers and approaches on FLNG. On FLNG plant cost, Brian Songhurst gives a review review of the state of the performance of FLNG after commissioning. The need for the FLNG industry to address both cost base and contractual price formation mechanisms as a viable channel for the delivery of gas is key. Results, Observations, Conclusions The impact of Independent Power Projects (IPP) in the third World nations act as game-changer in the monetization, new gas markets discoveries and increasing impact on the global gas economy. FLNG has potentials to transform the phase transition business from technical and business stand points within the economic development of remote offshore oil fields. The opportunity provided by the contractors to lease the FLNG vessel enables the smaller independent energy companies to avoid arranging project finance and carrying the asset on their balance sheet. However, it could also assist the major energy companies where current low oil prices are restricting capital investment to lease their FLNGs. Given the high level of interest in the researcher's two previous papers, this update will prove equally interesting and useful to analysts and participants in the gas sector, as floating technology continues to open new opportunities. Cost Comparison of the FLNG offerings are following a more industry standard design approach based on functional specifications and vendor standard equipment rather than client standards and design methods as used by the energy companies. The reason for the quality style approach is to position the FLNG facilities to be hired and reused by energy company. Novel/Additive Information The price of producing LNG from offshore gas reserves through the FLNG ought to be less than from onshore plants thanks to the lower CAPEX, albeit this will be somewhat offset by higher OPEX. This paper provides an update on the floating LNG sector (both floating liquefaction and regas terminals) over the past few years looking into some of the publication of the floating liquefaction (FLNG) contribution from the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
