Full textArt entrepreneurs have always existed. However, some auteurs highlight the recent attention this figure received from politics and economics actors. Ellmeier (2003), by example, explains that the shift from post-industrial to knowledge society promoted the emergence of this figure. However, if art and cultural entrepreneurs interest economics and politics actors, contributions to scientific research are still modest.Nevertheless, if we want to encourage its development, it’s important to refine our knowledge on this figure. This is why, this thesis aims to bridge the gap between an over-exposure in society and an under-exposure in the scientific work. The main purpose is to produce a better understanding of this figure. Which would give us elements contributing to build an ecosystem and create support programs, that would help cultural entrepreneurs to develop their business with success. To this end, this project seeks to capture the way entrepreneurs projects fit into their professional trajectories. More specifically, it is about understanding what guides these actors in their decisions and actions, when they create and develop an organization and how they relate to their life projects. More specifically, I focus on this research question : How does the actor-project couple evolves during the entrepreneurial process? To answer, I use narrative methodology. This approach implies to observe situations from the individuals lives experiences. Namely, entrepreneurial process is viewed through actors representations of themselves, of the entrepreneurial project and of their environment
Matina, Ekaterina, and Melchior Colmant. "Exploring entrepreneurial attitudes towards change throughout the development of the start-up project." Thesis, Umeå University, Umeå School of Business, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-1971.
Full textMany authors (refer: Swayne and Tucker, 1973; Kahneman and Lovallo, 1994; Baron, 1998; Stewart et al., 1998; Simon et al., 1999; Simon and Houghton, 2003; Baum and Lock, 2004; Mathews, 2008) have examined the traits and skills of the entrepreneur. Others have been more interested in their behaviors (refer: Bhave, 1994; Byers et al., 1997; Sarasvathy, 2001; Shook et al., 2003; Baron, 2007; Davidsson, 2008), trying to describe the entrepreneurial processes on the initial stages of venture development. However, studies that try to define how an entrepreneur reacts when facing changes have not been found in the literature. The focus of this research is thus, to explore the attitude of the entrepreneur towards changes throughout the development of the start-up project.
The theoretical background is divided into three main parts: the entrepreneurial attitude, the attitude towards change, and the relation between perceptions of organizational climate and attitudes. The first section reviews the literature about the traits and behaviors that define an entrepreneur. The second section concentrates on research papers concerning the attitude towards change for middle managers in well-established firms. Finally, the third section, through a review of the relevant literature, emphasizes the importance of the impact of the working environment perception on people’s attitude towards work.
The approach of this qualitative study is inductive at first, but also incorporates a deductive approach during the data analysis using a grounded theory method. The data were gathered through seven semi-structured interviews with entrepreneurs from Cyprus, India, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Sweden.
The outcome of the present study is a model emphasizing the main results of the research. It presents three main reasons (interest/work experience in the business area, definition of the gap in the market, and desire to create) that lead to the decision to initiate the project. The market and future perception, as they have an impact on the actual start of the process, are presented and discussed as well. Concerning the attitude towards changes occurring during the process, four different reactions have been found to be relevant (adaptation, search for assistance, determination/commitment, and passion/persistence). Furthermore, the help provided by the learning experience, the social networking, and the future planning to overcome changes were also identified. Finally, the perception by the entrepreneur of the change and the overall process are explained.

Full textThis thesis defends a model of entrepreneurship as a dynamic, global and systemic process, mediated by technologies. We present entrepreneurship as an activity in context, embodied in a culture, a story, an environment, and which develops itself through interactions. The moments of cooperation and coordination in localized teams, or multi-localized teams (Vacherand-Revel, 2017) constitute spaces of intersubjectivity (Zarifian 1996) in which different artefacts are used. We hypothesize that these artifacts in the activity will actively participate in the development of innovative entrepreneurial activity by providing support for team training, idea development, and design. Based on a qualitative and developmental methodological protocol, the analysis highlights several factors and resources of the activity, in particular the entrepreneurial training device, and the artefacts mobilized by the actors. These artifacts in the activity (Adé, 2000) are transformed into artifacts of the activity during instrumental genesis processes (Rabardel, 1995). They can then take a status of intermediate objects (Vinck, 1999, 2009) or boundary objects (Star, 2010, Vinck, 2009) within the activity. The analysis shows the predominant role of the innovation object, which is a common production of the team. It is both an outcome and a starting point for the development of intentions and the trajectory of the project. The innovation object arises from a process of design and creation (Almudever, 2012). This research shows the interdependence of the situations of cooperation and collective design in the formalization of the innovation object. The nature of the entrepreneurial project – an object built and under construction - highlights the interest of a dialogue between Activity theory and Action theories

Full textThe concept of entrepreneurship in research and society has been firmly rooted in the realm of economics and business. This narrow focus excludes a large number of entrepreneurial acts that occur outside of economic contexts. The discipline of high art music performance is rich with innovative acts that challenge the boundaries of conventional practices. However, these acts largely go unnoticed because of the strength of the bond between entrepreneurship and economics. In this research paper, a literature review will be used to examine how entrepreneurship can best be conceptualized in the discipline of high art music performance. It is argued here that a project-based view of entrepreneurship (Lindgren & Packendorff 2003) provides a valuable conceptualization to understand entrepreneurship in high art music performance. This conceptualization is then applied to three case studies of Canadian high art music performers. The case study uses the musicians' narrative accounts to provide illustrations of the project-based nature of entrepreneurship in music performance. It is hoped that the findings from this investigation provides further support for a project-based view of entrepreneurship and a starting ground to develop more effective tools to support and develop entrepreneurship in music through education and policy development.

Full textTeam entrepreneurship is a reality for many businesses. Research works aim to study this side of management phenomenon. For this contribution we examine the individual expectation for self-employment and describe the effectiveness of the team, in the sense of satisfaction of the members, as an element for the survival of the business. The farm sector gives the opportunity for our discipline to examine this form of entrepreneurship. Farms succession, the size of the enterprises, justifies the development of multi owner organisations. Behavioural psychology and social psychology, help us to analyse the entrepreneur believes. Entrepreneurial initiative in a team context is widely mentioned by students, in a study based on entrepreneurial intention models. Then we ask farmers about the reality of their situation in regards of initial expectations. We challenge the professional organisations analysis to confirm our research. We offer to have a new approach of team entrepreneurship, helping entrepreneurs and consultants toward durability of the project. Full textBakgrund
Background
Entrepreneurs who start a new venture will probably need either capital, or competence in how to run a business, but most likely they need them both. Business angels are individuals who invest their private money in companies in a start-up or early growth phase. Business angels can also contribute non-financial resources to companies such as competence, skills, knowledge and experience.
Problem/Purpose
What can entrepreneurs who are in need of both capital and competence do to find the “right” business angel, how can they attract these investors, and which factors are decisive for a successful working relationship with a business angel? The purpose of this thesis is, with a starting point in the entrepreneur as an investment project and capital seeker, to de-scribe a number of factors entrepreneurs can consider in order to increase their possibilities in initiating and carrying out a successful working relationship with a business angel.
Conclusion
The authors found a number of factors affecting the outcome of a working relationship with a business angel. These are the personal relationship, a match between the entrepre-neur’s needs and the business angel’s competence, an agreed agenda, and a thoroughly worked out shareholder agreement.

Due to the high recognized complexity in the process of creation and development of an entrepreneurial business, there are many studies seeking to answer the big question: what truly potentiates or stimulates the entrepreneurial action' Knowing that the behaviors adopted by the individual are influenced or conditioned by its country National Culture, it would be predictable that it can represent a significant predictor of the Entrepreneurial Activity (EA). So, the purpose of this study was to analyze and check in what dimension or in what conditions, the National Culture influences the levels of EA from each country. Based on the scientific work Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE), which characterizes societies base on 9 Cultural Dimensions, and using the data related to the Total early-stage Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) of Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), it was confirmed on this study a meaningful relationship between the National Culture and the EA. Cultures characterized by: high Uncertainty Avoidance and Power Distance, weak In-group Collectivism and high Performance Orientation and Humane Orientation, enhance the growth of EA. It was also intended to analyze if this meaningful relationship was confirmed, when the entrepreneurship motivation is justified by the Need (Necessity-Driven Entrepreneurial Activity). In this case, the results show that the relationship between the Cultural Dimensions are even more significant, adding a meaningful relationship with two more cultural dimensions, high Institutional Collectivism and weak Future Orientation.

Project development and so its management, is a strategy commonly used by companies while working on search of their goals. The large use of this strategy evolves parallel to an awareness of the importance of achieving success over the strategy application, in other words, projects success. This awareness is clearly visible over the number of studies concerning the understanding of variables affecting projects success. Similarly, entrepreneurial orientation is a research topic with consolidated significance in the entrepreneurship research field, and with significant developments over the last decades. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) of organizations over the project’s success (PS) developed by them. The methodology that grounded this research is the quantitative analysis, through the structural equation modeling (SEM) method, and using survey as the data-gathering tool to find 100 valid answers. The main result observed was the positive relation between the Entrepreneurial Orientation of organizations and the project’s success developed by them, allowing the development of this research subject in the academic area, as well as the deduction of corporative practices that could contribute to projects success. In the practical way, it was possible to recognize one more benefit that will join the team of benefits generated by EO, among others that were already been verified in other researches.

Full textThe study of the relationship between the enterprise project and the managerial project is defined according to several theories that are likely to enlighten our research, intermingling constructivism and Giddens's theory. In the light of the already existing intermediary media, the analysis on both social and medico-social fields is usually led, taking into account environmental constraints, ant particularly in the choice of strategic orientations, via innovation, complexity and how to handle uncertainty. Our research aims at measuring the level of potentiality that exists between the projects. This level is grounded in two visions? the first one?s goal is to identify the elements of humane structuralization along with the elements of relationship building; the second vision tries to determine the level of influence of Giddens?s theory on an attempt to suggest a model of organization and piloting. Being concerned about rationalizing our research, it will focus on this theory. The question is to know whether enterprises develop their strategy in a disjunctive vision of the projects, or in the definition and a dialogic implementation of managerial principles deeply influenced by innovation. Given the environment of proximity in a governing where the manager holds the strategic vision, of the use of managerial behaviors, it appears that enterprises, defined as communities, are capable of establishing a relationship that can do without the constraints imposed by the context and also fight status quo. So as to measure the level of potentiality of the relationship, our choice was to lead our research on five clinical cases. The meaning of this contribution is to highlight a managerial style and also a new perspective for structuring the organization. Our interviews and a quantitative and qualitative analyses made us notice that projections of linking the projects represent an applicable and even inescapable element for the survival of organizations. If they are at liberty to use them, it remains nevertheless that the enterprises that give it up, take the risk of exposing themselves to painful strategic choices due to the intensity of the environment

Full textThe increasing world-wide competition demands companies to take decisions quick and precisely. In particular, the investment decision, one of the most important for organizations, requires to be supported. Nevertheless, the knowledge produced and available on investment projects gives greater importance to the financial aspects, in detriment of the enterprise strategy, besides involving only the business unit, rather than the entire supply chain. Therefore, the objective of this research was to identify which new occurrences and stages appears in the analysis of investment projects, from the adoption of an strategical vision and the expansion of its traditional approach, from the business unit through the supply chain. This research presents, as main results: a series of new strategical considerations, focusing the supply chain, that are relevant in the traditional stages of investment projects; the generation of two new stages for investment projects, in order to analyze important factors during investment decisions, which has not gained great attention from literature. Additionally, a case study was carried out, involving three distinct investments, allowing comparisons between the reached results and the reality of the companies.

This study considers four South African nanotechnology flagship projects and evaluates them using the Strategic Management of Innovation and entrepreneurial framework. The flagship projects span a variety of focus areas which include beneficiation of strong materials (platinum group materials), viral therapeutics (HIV, Hepatitis), development of ID nano-structures for nano electronics and fuel cell development. The study found that although projects were at the early stage and therefore dominated by research activities, they were not well aligned to later effectively capture value and take advantage of the existing innovation ecosystem. A number of recommendations were put forward emanating from the gap analysis studies.

Full textThe expression Business Model appaered in the mid-90's during the strat-up phenomenon. Largely employed by practitioners, the concept is not yet considered as a real research object by the academic community. This thesis uses the concept in Entrepreneurship and aims at answering the question. Is the Business Model and Operational Concept in the Firm Foundation Context ? The first part of the work tries to clarify the concept through the analysis of the existing works on it. The Business Model is about the value proposition of a firm, about how it is build, about the revenue models and the value exchanges with all the stakeholders. We also present our theoretical proposition based on three theories. The stakeholder theory and the resource-based-view allow addressing the question of the components of the Business Model, while the conventions theory helps understanding the nature of the Business Model, as a business convention shared by the stakeholders of a company. To answer the initial question, we choose to implement ourselves the Business Model with entrepreneurs through an action research process that implies both pratical and theoretical results. The Business Model appears as a convention related to the creation, the remuneration and the share of value

[EN] The interest of this research focuses mainly on the following aspects. First, we explore how the current literature on university student entrepreneurship focused on the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirits Students Survey (GUESSS), one of the largest related research projects, can contribute to research on university student entrepreneurship and help researchers to use this database. This is the first step in this work as it allowed as to identify the main gaps in the literature of university student's entrepreneurship. Second, we extend previous research on the entrepreneurial intention models (and succession intention) and we go beyond the intention on taking implementation intention as a closer step of behavior. And third, the results of this study would help give advice to universities, academics and policymakers to build an entrepreneurial university and in short, an entrepreneurial society. The main goal of this research is to contribute to the study of entrepreneurial intentions of university student's entrepreneurship. More specifically, the specific objectives of this work are related to 1) identify the core variables influencing university student's entrepreneurship in the entrepreneurship literature focused on the GUESSS project; 2) study the mediating effects of the components of the TPB between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention; 3) analyze the effect of entrepreneurship education considering the role of the university, family, and social context on the components of the TPB as antecedents of entrepreneurial intention; 4) reduce the intention-behavior gap by adding the middle stage of implementation intention and the moderating effects of goal orientation and 5) explore the succession intention phenomena. Our first study shows that the intention phase is the most studied stage of the entrepreneurial process. However, there are certain gaps that need to be addressed and that is exactly what we intend to achieve with the following studies. We found that Program Learning affects Entrepreneurial Intention through the components of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). In this sense, it is important to highlight that Subjective Norms did not mediate the relation between Program Learning and Entrepreneurial Intention but influenced Entrepreneurial Intention through Attitudes toward Entrepreneurship and Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC). As for the effects of Entrepreneurship Education, we found this variable acts as a moderator, especially in the relationship between Attitudes towards Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Intention, Subjective Norms and Entrepreneurial Intention, and Family Context and Subjective Norms. As we move through the entrepreneurial process, our results validated the Entrepreneurial Event Model (EEM) to predict entrepreneurial intentions and in addition, the Entrepreneurial career choice 5 years after completing studies moderated the relationship between Entrepreneurial intention and Implementation Intention. Finally, when analyzing Succession Intention in family firms, our findings showed the impact of Parental Support in Family Business Self-Efficacy and in commitment to the family firm. Furthermore, our results confirmed a positive impact of the commitment to the family firm on Succession Intention, especially the Normative Commitment.

Full textMy PhD thesis deals with selection of corporate and entrepreneurial innovation projects, using prediction markets as an alternative selection mechanism. Innovation process and its evaluation are two very important economic activities with repercussions for growth and development. Available evidence strongly suggests that conventional evaluation and selection methods, such as development funnel in corporate setting or decisions of Venture Capital firms in entrepreneurial one, do not yield cost-effective results. Coming up with an efficient and cost-effective method would contribute significantly to better resource allocation and social welfare. In the first part of the thesis, I test the prediction market predictions against experts’. In the second part, I examine behavioral aspects of decision-making in entrepreneurial prediction market setting, particularly how optimism bias influences traders’ decisions in prediction market. I conducted experiments with human subjects for the first two parts. In the third part of the thesis, I examine the most important elements and properties of prediction markets and provide a survey of most important contributions to prediction market literature, together with the classification and list of articles in major categories

Full textOur research focuses on the evaluation of the "organizational satisficing" of social purpose business (EVS). For this, we mobilize a qualitative methodology centered on two embedded case studies, including one in longitunale way. "Sos Maintien à Domicile" and "Eveil" are both two associative enterprises in the institutional medico-social care field. We highlight three levels of results. First, we evaluate, through the cognitive maps, the system of shared representations to assess the sense of organizational effectiveness. Then, through the global productivity surplus accounts, we measure the economic and social performance. The convergence of the first two levels of results allows to rule on the positive or negative state of organizational satisficing. Finally, the analysis of cases and confrontation with the conceptual model and the literature review, allows us to identify key variables with the EVS control system, represented by the managerial authority, can be used in various project control modes

Full textThe research consisted of understanding how new businesses are created, in order to report on anticipated challenges and ways to harmonize logistics and the evolution of the entrepreneurial system. The way that entrepreneurs’ decisions contribute in creating new business projects was approached on a cognitive perspective reporting on the steps of interpretation and analysis of the entrepreneurs’ environment. On a methodological level, the exploratory character of this work led to an initial study. The objective was to bring to the foreground the concepts used as a base for the study of the use of a method semi-structured by individual cognitive maps. This second study brought to light the role played by idiosyncratic steps of perception and interpretation of information on behalf of the entrepreneurs. The concluding hypotheses of this analysis, orchestrated by the stages of the entrepreneurial process and the entrepreneurs’’ analysis raise the base of an operational model of support for entrepreneurs. This model strives to complement traditional methods and to join the creators’ cognitive behavior to the supporting steps

Full textThe purpose of this research is to highlight the multiple configurations of new ventures failure and the different entrepreneur profiles associated with them. We adopt a triangulation method combining typological and taxonomic analysis. Based on integrative approach, a typology of eight “conceptual” failures configurations is derived from the combination of three theories: the population ecology of organizations, the resource-based view and the goal-achievement gap theory. To identify the “empirical” configurations of entrepreneurial failure, a taxonomic analysis was conducted by using hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering algorithms. To this end, we used a sample of 105 new ventures recognized by external observers as being in difficulty. To reduce the gap between the high level of abstraction suitable for typological and the “contextual reality” revealed by the taxonomy, and in order to develop an interpretative framework to operationalize entrepreneurial failure, the research methodological process incorporated an exploratory qualitative analysis based on ten failure case studies. Five empirical failures configurations were identified which associated with the “looser”, the “supported at arm's length”, the “megalomaniac”, the “dissatisfied with lord” and “big-time gambler” entrepreneur’s profiles. The findings of this research have opened our eyes to the need for professional actors of entrepreneurship like the counsellor, to take account the multiple configurations of entrepreneurial failure

Full textResearch concerning social capital within the field of Entrepreneurship has largely put forward its role in the success of venture creation projects. Nevertheless, the prerequisites which are likely to act on its formation and its development in order to support their access to external resources were rarely explored. In this perspective, researches carried out in the ICT context (of Information and Communication Technologies), and more specifically during the survival-development stage of new companies, are even fewer. Within this framework, this thesis tries to understand the process by which the entrepreneur's social skills enable him to enrich his social capital and consequently, to facilitate his access to key external resources. To achieve this goal, a conceptual model was developed from a literature review. To test this model and the hypotheses which are related, we proceed to a data-gathering in two principal times. Initially, we undertook an exploratory study with ten ICT entrepreneurs, four bankers and five investors. This study allowed us, by a content analysis, to better contextualize this research, and by the way, to emphasize the skills and resources which are essential for the development of new projects' creation. In the second time, we conducted semi-directed interviews with 120 Tunisian ICT entrepreneurs. The collected data were subject to statistical treatments via UCINET-VI, SPSS (version 18) and SMART-PLS (version 2.0) softwares. The results demonstrated that three types of social skills, namely the social persuasion, the ingratiation and the self emotional intelligence, are likely to act in the context of ICT creation. The entrepreneur's social capital plays a mediator role between his social skills and his access to key external resources, whereas the market's environmental uncertainty exerts a moderating effect. Building from the obtained results, we can deduct the principal contributions and limits of this research in order to propose future perspectives of development

Full textNew innovative venture creation embodies strong stakes in terms of economic development but its end really lies in the sustainable development of recently created companies. This investigation joins this perspective by focusing on the development of nascent entrepreneur. It proposes an innovative reflection related to the dynamics that he/she impulses when being accompanied in an incubator. Our objective is to encourage the “incubator consultant” to enrich his skills and practices by engaging a development of the nascent entrepreneur’s autonomy of the he supports who is confronted with a complex activity and with numerous changes. Conceiving, implementing and managing all the events occurring during the incubation process, we consider that the entrepreneur is in the core of the process; his/her mental representations play a decisive role and their evolution support the knowledge (learning processes) he should construct as a novice in many fields of business venture. Our results show that the learning contents are related to the progressive building of his project and entrepreneur role. We show that the incubator consultant must strengthen the entrepreneur learning contents and processes during the incubation period, in order to insure a long term impact. Such a dynamic process of skill building will favour his/her self confidence, entrepreneurial attitude and autonomy facing his new activity. Starting from our research results, the operating dimension we adopt in this research guides us to propose a set of recommendations about co-producing and organizing the accompaniment relationship

Full textOur research aims to identify, for the PSP PACA our socio-economic partner, the possible ways to support the innovation activity of its members and the home-care services field players. Firstly, based on an expanded literature review, we built a theoretical model of analysis allowing us to highlight all the cognitive, political, constructive and productive fundamental activities in the implementation of entrepreneurial projects intended to transform or strengthen a field. Thus, we rely on a project-based view literature and on three sets of literature on the appropriation of human artefacts. Secondly, we mobilized this model of analysis in the in-depth reading of two cases of projects carried out by the PSP PACA, setting up collective actions. Mobilizing this analytical model allowed us to examine the different ways (organization, collective animation and individual support) by which the PSP team carried out theses collective actions, and their subsequent impact on the activities. It also allowed us to identify, in context, the elements that were appropriated or adopted by the participants while conducting their own projects. We then highlighted a certain number of methodological levers, on which the team of the cluster can rely to optimize - according to its aims and its orientations - the organization and the animation of such collective actions. We articulated these levers according to four different modalities in order to facilitate their mobilization by participants or project carriers. These results then led us to put forward three main axes of theoretical discussion
