Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to study how a shared vision can emerge among the members of the entrepreneurial teams managing nonprofit organizations. We first examine the grassroots approach that emphasizes the collective action of volunteers and employees working together in the development of the association. We then consider social entrepreneurship literature focusing on the effective achievement of social goals. We integrate these two visions as two possible forms of entrepreneurship in nonprofit organizations. We identify the entrepreneurial team as a group of individuals working together toward the development of the objectives of the nonprofit organization and their achievement. We analyze how the different members of the team position themselves with regard to these two visions to analyze the risk of divisions, but also the possibility of the emergence of a shared vision. Adopting a socio-psychological approach, we conceptualize the notion of a shared vision in terms of social representations. We integrate the confrontation between these two representations as part of a cycle through which actors adjust their vision to fit reality. We then go on to study and explain how social entrepreneurship practices are introduced and develop within the entrepreneurial team of nonprofit organizations.Based on 48 semi-structured interviews and a full case study, the data collected contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms through which the shared vision emerges and evolves. Our research model highlights the distance between the ideal of the vision and the reality in practice. Between this ideal and the reality, operational and psychological processes are at work. Drawing on Weick (1979), when members of the entrepreneurial team are divided between two visions of their non-profit organization, the “retention” of one or the other is the consequence of managerial “enactment” rather than discussion

Full textThe study of the relationship between the enterprise project and the managerial project is defined according to several theories that are likely to enlighten our research, intermingling constructivism and Giddens's theory. In the light of the already existing intermediary media, the analysis on both social and medico-social fields is usually led, taking into account environmental constraints, ant particularly in the choice of strategic orientations, via innovation, complexity and how to handle uncertainty. Our research aims at measuring the level of potentiality that exists between the projects. This level is grounded in two visions? the first one?s goal is to identify the elements of humane structuralization along with the elements of relationship building; the second vision tries to determine the level of influence of Giddens?s theory on an attempt to suggest a model of organization and piloting. Being concerned about rationalizing our research, it will focus on this theory. The question is to know whether enterprises develop their strategy in a disjunctive vision of the projects, or in the definition and a dialogic implementation of managerial principles deeply influenced by innovation. Given the environment of proximity in a governing where the manager holds the strategic vision, of the use of managerial behaviors, it appears that enterprises, defined as communities, are capable of establishing a relationship that can do without the constraints imposed by the context and also fight status quo. So as to measure the level of potentiality of the relationship, our choice was to lead our research on five clinical cases. The meaning of this contribution is to highlight a managerial style and also a new perspective for structuring the organization. Our interviews and a quantitative and qualitative analyses made us notice that projections of linking the projects represent an applicable and even inescapable element for the survival of organizations. If they are at liberty to use them, it remains nevertheless that the enterprises that give it up, take the risk of exposing themselves to painful strategic choices due to the intensity of the environment

Full textIn front of the potential of social innovation to propose new entrepreneurial solutions to current social problems, the incubation approach has been promoted as a privileged method to stimulate and support its emergence. This research proposes to deepen our knowledge on social incubators and to explore the links between incubation and social innovation, as well as their effects. The analysis focuses primarily on the practices put in place during the promotion and incubation of social innovations. Three empirical studies have been conducted and each of them focuses on a specific dimension of the incubator’s work. The first article shows how social incubators work to legitimize social innovation as a new response to social needs, in their particular institutional contexts. On the basis of a comparative analysis of four pioneer incubators in Europe, the results show their key role as institutional entrepreneurs in promoting a discourse favorable to social innovation, in creating novel collaborations, and in attracting resources to the incubation process. The second article highlights the influence of incubation practices on shaping the social innovations and on drawing the tradeoffs between their social and economic goals. The in-depth qualitative analysis of the incubation process in a French incubator identifies three effects produced by these practices: the commodification of social problems, the entrepreneurialization of individuals, and the market-embedding of organizations. Finally, the third article focuses on the micro level of the incubator - entrepreneur interaction and focuses on observing the tensions at work in the construction of social innovations. The longitudinal study of the incubation process of three projects highlights the existence of a process aimed at creating entrepreneurial subjectivities. Moreover, it identifies certain conditions for a successful incubation. Overall, these results contribute to open the “black box” of social incubation and highlight the challenges raised in the process of promoting and supporting initiatives that pursue both social and economic goals

Full textOn peut, en effet, relire notre cheminement de chercheur, des Sciences Economiques vers les Sciences de Gestion, comme articulant deux axes de recherche avec la prise en compte de l'intersubjectivité humaine dans les situations économiques et de gestion, et l'étude de la singularité, en Entrepreneuriat prioritairement. Toutes ces recherches ont en commun un ancrage dans le paradigme épistémologique de l'Individualisme Méthodologique Sophistiqué tel qu'il est revendiqué par les économistes des conventions. L'inscription au sein de ce paradigme nous paraît même constituer aujourd'hui, une convention constitutive des Sciences Managériales et Entrepreneuriales. Ceci nous conduit à envisager, d'abord, une relecture de notre parcours sous l'angle de l'intersubjectivité (I), avant de proposer en quoi, nos travaux en entrepreneuriat articulent intersubjectivité et singularité (II), puis d'en tirer quelques implications générales pour la recherche et l'encadrement de travaux en Sciences de Gestion, en évoquant nos perspectives de recherche et les propositions épistémologiques et méthodologiques qui résultent de nos réflexions (III).
Comme nous le montrons en proposant une relecture critique de l'ensemble de nos travaux, notre perception de l'intersubjectivité est intimement liée à la pensée de Jürgen HABERMAS. Or, ce dernier fixe trois objectifs imbriqués à la Science moderne et à la production de connaissances scientifiques pour qu'elle dépasse le dogmatisme :
- tout d'abord, un intérêt directement opératoire, l'accent étant mis sur l'identification et la manipulation de variables ;
- ensuite, un intérêt de « raison pratique », la science visant à l'interprétation de la communication symbolique et facilitant la compréhension mutuelle ;
- enfin, un intérêt critique et émancipatoire, la science ayant alors pour finalité, dans une perspective pragmatique, de produire le changement social et d'éliminer la souffrance socialement inutile. Comme le note DESREUMAUX (2005; 17), « l'oubli de la valeur critique et émancipatoire » qui, pour HABERMAS, menace nombre de scientifiques modernes, «est signe d'une incapacité à voir en quoi l'activité scientifique est encastrée dans le processus d'autoformation de l'homme à travers lequel les hommes reconstituent continuellement leurs institutions sociales et leurs identités ».
Adhérant à ce triple objectif, nous nous efforçons de proposer une relecture de nos travaux et de nos engagements qui en rende compte.

Full textWe study the ability of the various devices supporting new companies to satisfy entrepreneurs’ needs regarding social capital. These needs are critical and evolving, and vary significantly depending on the social characteristics of the entrepreneur. We test the hypothesis that the support organizations that Richez- Battesti (2005) call “embedded” have a higher capacity than non-embedded ones do.Our study does not confirm this hypothesis: the embedding of support mechanisms is not determinative. Instead, the crucial factor is the entrepreneur’s personality. The environment proposes, whereas the entrepreneur chooses.However, we demonstrate that some features of these devices are critical. The results allow for us to conclude that certain public policies, devices and learning processes related to entrepreneurs can have an impact on both the constitution of social capital and the inequalities in social capital

On the managerial level, the production of knowledge on the network will make it possible to discard the bad reputation of the term of “personal relation” and to develop a better interpersonal and inter-organizational connection for Vietnamese entrepreneurs. These, nuclei of an emerging dynamic private sector, are still dispersed in an individual functioning. On the academic level, the thesis exploits an expanded view towards the social nature of the entrepreneur’s economic activity.The four case studies specify the role of social groups in the entrepreneur network and their transformation into stakeholders. The thesis focuses finally on the reading of the results in the light of different theories in entrepreneurship

Full textEconomics has located its central causes for the motivations of Economic Man (homo economicus) in the decisions of largely autonomous individuals who “operate within constraints set by well-defined resources, values and institutions” (Zelizer, 2011:9). Hybrid business strategies that blend market competition and social solidarity models, or what is called social entrepreneurship, particularly among the working poor, are often relegated to the economic periphery, where ambiguities of value are left to the realm of assumptions or put into the black box of “informal sector” in development. Through multi-disciplinary case studies, archival research and survey data, the dissertation shows how informal social entrepreneurs embedded in social networks are not necessarily the brilliant few but the front line of the team; they open market opportunities and create social value despite low levels of income or embeddedness in the informal economy by harnessing social capital resources. The implications for theory, methods and practice show that social entrepreneurship has explanatory power on economic motivations and incentives because it provides a discursive bridge between the disciplinary boundaries in economics and other social sciences by, for example, challenging assumptions in theories of individual material self-interest. Donors and governments, by investing in social entrepreneurial initiatives and enabling environments in the informal economy, can increase the capacity of networks and institutions to organize informality, thereby strengthening the private sector and expanding capabilities so people can participate in a more equitable and socially inclusive economy
