Abstract:
"Jakie transformacje energetyczne na rzecz trzech ekologii? Entropie, ekologie i gospodarka w erze antropocenu"

Abstract:

Abstract:
Single-ion transfer free energies [Formula: see text] and entropies [Formula: see text] of some ions from water to aqueous mixtures of urea and glycerol have been determined using the widely used tetraphenylarsonium tetraphenylborate reference electrolyte assumption from solubility and emf measurements of some appropriate electrolytes at five different temperatures (15 to 35 °C). Analysis of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] values of the ions as well as their respective "chemical" effect, [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] as obtained after correcting for their cavity and Born-type electrostatic effects, estimated by the scaled particle theory (SPT) and simple Born equation, respectively, show a complex dependence upon solvent composition. Attempts have been made to explain the observed mirror-image entropie behaviour of simple cations and anions in the light of Kundu etal.'s four-step transfer process and to compare the results with those obtained in other aquo-ionic and nonionic systems. Keywords: single ion, transfer energetics, TATB assumption, aqueous glycerol, aqueous urea.

Pougaza, Doriano-Boris. Phd thesis, Université Paris Sud - Paris XI, 2011. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00684637.

Full text
Abstract:

We focus on the relations between entropies, exponents and dimensions for differentiable dynamics. We propose a simplified proof of Ledrappier-Young entropy formula. Then by using Ledrappier-Young entropy formula and Pesin theory, we bound the entropy of an ergodic measure by a combination of Lyapunov exponents and various invariants on the unstable manifolds such as volume growth, topological entropies and fibered entropies. We also systemically investigate the so called dimensional entropies and their applications to entropy-hyperbolic systems

Abstract:
This Phd thesis is a contribution to the use of thermodynamics and geometry in mechanics. The first part of this manuscript is devoted to the study of low cycle fatigue and the notion of fracture fatigue entropy. Fracture fatigue entropies are experimentally estimated by various equations and compared to empirical models used in the litterature. It appears that these diverse fracture fatigue entropies are very close and allows to conclude that a constant fracture fatigue entropy exists only depending on the material. For the empirical models, an extension of the Ramberg-Osgood model is proposed taking into account the temporal variation of the loading, and, a study on the inaccuracy of the Park and Nelson model is realized. Then, a study on the different phases occurring in a fatigue test is done through the study of a damage parameter based on the entropy accumulated by the material. An extension using the concept of exergy allows the highlight of a new quantity, an exergy associated with plastic strain involving a quality factor. In a second part, the diffusion of scale-entropy is studied and permits to create various scale-dependent behaviors. It allows the study of log-periodicity of a finite deterministic fractal (or prefractal), or the verification of finite deterministic scale-dependent geometries. An application of these scale-dependent models is performed within the framework of the determination of mechanical properties, for the analysis of fractured surfaces and for fragmentation. Finally, a possible link between mechanical behavior, geometry and constructal theory is presented

Abstract:
The short-term regulation of blood pressure is influenced by many influences, some being represented by cardiovascular signals and their changes. Because of the complexity of this system, the linear methods for its analysis are not sufficient. Non-linear methods for time series analysis have been devised quite a lot. In the course of this work, the analysis of the relations of several signals was evaluated as the most suitable conditional entropy and the resulting indexes of affinity and directionality. This method was applied to a set of heart-rate signals and systolic and diastolic pressure signals measured on eight adults and nine children. Relationships were analyzed but unfortunately after the statistical test was held the expected information links between the individual signals were not established. The indices were very small - in the hundredths of bits. Finally, optimization of the algorithm of the whole method has been performed and the newly modified function already shows significantly better results, for example strong information binding from the time-series of systolic pressure to a series of diastolic pressures.

Abstract:
In this thesis we give an overview of the volume entropy rigidity problem. A conjecture by Gromov and Katok states that, on a locally symmetric space (M; g0), the symmetric metric g0 has minimal volume entropy among metrices with the same total volume. The text is self-contained, assuming a basic knowledge in differential geometry. Therefore we discuss in the first chapter some background material used in the sequel. The case of compact quotients of H2 _ H2 was unknown before this work ; we give a fully detailled proof. The key-point is to build a calibrating form as in [BCG95]. As a by-product, we present some applications provided by the proof of the volume entropy rigidity conjecture. We conclude by an informal section explaining the motivations of the problem to a non-mathematical reader

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of entropy for a main resonator attached to a “fuzzy structure”. This structure is described explicitly using the Lagrangian method, and is treated as a layer of discrete resonators. A generic entropy formulation is then developed for the layer of resonators, which is used to determine the individual oscillator entropies. The combined entropy of the linear resonator system is then determined and compared numerically to the sum of the individual oscillator entropies. The entropy behavior of the system is then related to the energy behavior of the system and explained in regards to the the “artificial damping” of the main resonator.

In this study, the Shannon entropies of six different road-profiles ranging from “very good asphalt road” to “dirt road (terrain)” were calculated. Results indicate that each type of road has a well defined entropy value and that the entropies of roads ranging from “very good asphalt” to “dirt road (terrain)” lie on a nearly linear locus. A second approach presented in this paper consists in measuring the sprung mass vertical acceleration of a vehicle running over segments of roads of different qualities and calculating the entropies of the acceleration signals. This procedure has been applied to assess the influence of nonlinear damping and vehicle speed. It has been seen that it is possible to identify the type of the road surface through the calculation of entropy if the vehicle operating parameters are known. Finally, it is observed that the locus of entropy values is concave on the plot of acceleration entropy versus root mean square (RMS) acceleration.

Abstract The design optimization of a tube with internal helical fins is considered from an entropy generation point of view. The primary focus of the article is to study the optimization results based on entropy-based formulations. Specifically, this work compares the optimal design solution obtained through the minimization of total entropy and through the multiobjective optimization of the heat transfer and frictional entropies when considered as two separate objectives. The latter quantities being associated with heat transfer and pressure drops, it is shown that, from a design optimization point of view, it is important to separate both entropies which are conflicting objectives.

Abstract:
Using fundamentals of irreversible thermodynamics, with specific focus on entropy generation, this paper studies the structural integrity of degraded materials. All damage mechanisms share a common feature namely energy dissipation. Dissipation, as a fundamental measure for irreversibility in a thermodynamic treatment of non-equilibrium processes, is quantified by entropy generation. Based on the theoretical relationship between entropy generation and generalized thermodynamic forces and fluxes, the entropic damage is measured during a corrosion-fatigue degradation experiment. Life estimation of components, which were subject to complex corrosion-fatigue degradation mechanism, was then estimated through a proposed entropic-based prognostic framework. The performance of predictions was evaluated and compared with previous predictions in terms of the influence of additional features on components health assessment.

Abstract:
The present study is devoted to the modeling of mean flow effects while computing thermoacoustic modes under the zero Mach number assumption. It is first recalled that the acoustic impedance modelling a compressor or a turbine must be prescribed under an energetical form instead of the classical acoustic variables. Then we demonstrate the feasibility to take into account the coupling between acoustic and entropy waves in a zero Mach number framework to capture a family of low frequency entropic modes. The proposed approach relies on a new Delayed Entropy Coupled Boundary Condition (DECBC) and proves able to capture a family of Low frequency entropic mode even though no mean flow term is included into the fluctuating pressure equation.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the concepts of "good" and "evil" from the point of view of physics. Although the physical concept of “entropy” as a measure of disorder was the first candidate who could serve as the physical basis of these ethical concepts, in fact it is not suitable for this purpose. However, the “entropic potential of the event” Z (T, A) that describes the impact of the event A that occurred in the moment T0 in the system R to the entropy of this system at the future moment T (T > T0) is well suited for our analysis. The article describes methods for calculating the “entropic potential of the event” for certain real-life events and discuss several other related ideas, such as “time factor”, “averaging” and “universality”.

Abstract:
In this paper, the possibility of using some econophysical methods for quantitative assessment of complexity measures: entropy (Shannon, Approximate and Permutation entropies), fractal (Multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis – MF-DFA), and quantum (Heisenberg uncertainty principle) is investigated. Comparing the capability of both entropies, it is obtained that both measures are presented to be computationally efficient, robust, and useful. Each of them detects patterns that are general for crisis states. The similar results are for other measures. MF-DFA approach gives evidence that Dow Jones Sustainability Index is multifractal, and the degree of it changes significantly at different periods. Moreover, we demonstrate that the quantum apparatus of econophysics has reliable models for the identification of instability periods. We conclude that these measures make it possible to establish that the socially responsive exhibits characteristic patterns of complexity, and the proposed measures of complexity allow us to build indicators-precursors of critical and crisis phenomena.

Abstract:
The rapidly evolving coronavirus pandemic brings a devastating effect on the entire world and its economy as awhole. Further instability related to COVID-19will negatively affect not only on companies and financial markets, but also on traders and investors that have been interested in saving their investment, minimizing risks, and making decisions such as how to manage their resources, how much to consume and save, when to buy or sell stocks, etc., and these decisions depend on the expectation of when to expect next critical change. Trying to help people in their subsequent decisions, we demonstrate the possibility of constructing indicators of critical and crash phenomena on the example of Bitcoin market crashes for further demonstration of their efficiency on the crash that is related to the coronavirus pandemic. For this purpose, the methods of the theory of complex systems have been used. Since the theory of complex systems has quite an extensive toolkit for exploring the nonlinear complex system, we take a look at the application of the concept of entropy in finance and use this concept to construct 6 effective entropy measures: Shannon entropy, Approximate entropy, Permutation entropy, and 3 Recurrence based entropies. We provide computational results that prove that these indicators could have been used to identify the beginning of the crash and predict the future course of events associated with the current pandemic.

Abstract:
Presented at the Second Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis Recent research in applications of entropy theory to matrix balancing problems in eco-nomics has put powerful new tools in the hands of data base developers, but overshadowed some previous findings. We recall earlier findings that the RAS is an entropy-theoretic model. Investigating the properties of a more recently proposed entropy-theoretic model, we find that in general the RAS remains preferable. We show further that the RAS can be obtained also as a generalised cross-entropy model. Finally, we present examples illus-trating how entropy-theoretic techniques can extend the RAS to handle a wider range of problems.
