Abstract:
Delirium is the second most common psychiatric diagnosis among hospitalized elderly cancer patients. A variety of factors are known to cause delirium in cancer patients, and the most frequently observed are outlined. History, presence of an altered mental state with identification of the cognitive impairment, and a close watch of mental function will help to differentiate delirium from a normal stress reaction, an adjustment disorder to cancer diagnosis, or early dementia. As in other medically ill patients, antipsychotic drugs are the cornerstone of treatment for delirium not manageable with

AbstractRecent research has provided strong support for the existence of a familial risk for suicide, and efforts have been made to separate genetic from enviromental risk factors. Twin studies have played a major role in the identification of genetic factors, and the results indicate that the concordance rate for suicide is higher in identical than in fraternal twins (Baldessarini & Hennen, 2004). Moreover, Segal and Roy (1995) reported a significantly higher frequency of nonfatal suicidal attempts by monozygotic (MZ) than by dyzygotic (DZ) twins whose co-twins had committed suicide. Howe

A sample of the student body of the Faculty of Philosophy was given two inquiries: one upon enrolment at the Faculty and another after the first year of study. The aim of the research was to establish the nature of loneliness amongst students, the durability of the effect of moving from home, and the effect of financial and educational burdens on the self-esteem and loneliness of students. The authors desired to establish which of diese variables, coupled with other personal and enviromental factors, reliably prognosticate the student's adjustment to the university. BACKGROUND: A key moderator of wound healing is oxygen. Wound healing is a dynamic and carefully orchestrated process involving blood cells, cytokines, parenchymal cells (i.e. fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells) and extracellular matrix reorganization. Human adipose derived stem cells as well as human fibroblasts produce soluble factors, exhibit diverse effects on inflammation and anti inflammation response and are involved in wound healing processes. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is an effective adjunct treatment for ischemic disorders such as chronic infection or chronic wounds. In vitro eff

Anorexia Nervosa (AN) and Bulimia Nervosa (BN) are diseases with considerable individual variation. Genetic background plays an important role in disease susceptibility and severity. To evaluate the relationship between certain genetic loci and diseases subtypes we genotyped and analysed evolution of selected clinical parameters. We investigated a group of 75 pacients with AN (1. study), 127 DSM-4 and ICD-10 diagnosed patients with AN and BN (2. study), and contributed to sample of 2907 AN patients in large GWAS study.
