Abstract:
Considering continuing environmental degradation linked to economic activity, it seems essential to examine the role companies can play in implementing sustainable development. This study aims to analyze lessons learned from standard theories on the effectiveness of corporate social and environmental responsibility. Indeed, corporate social responsibility and state intervention are frequently compared under the dual lens of collective well-being and environmental quality. For some economists, corporate social responsibility is preferable to state intervention from the point of view of maximizing collective well-being. By contrast, according to some other authors, state intervention is more effective for both maximizing well-being and protecting the environment. This literature review shows that corporate social responsibility is theoretically no more effective than public intervention in environmental protection: companies can be encouraged to commit themselves to protecting the environment under restrictive conditions, but this does not eliminate the essential importance of public intervention. Analysis of the assumptions of neoclassical models shows that, in reality, they do not take into account all the properties of a public good, i.e., all the properties of the climate and the environment. Finally, the conditions for implementing CSR are incompatible with maximizing collective well-being, which explains why public intervention is theoretically preferable to CSR.

Abstract:
This research investigates how fiscal environmental expenditures impact corporate environmental investments and whether corporations act as free-riders. Using a sample of 1688 firm-year observations from 2008 to 2019 in the Chinese context, we observe that fiscal environmental expenditures have a significantly negative “crowding-out” effect on corporate green investments, which is mediated by the disclosure of pollution emissions. Additionally, a heterogeneity analysis reveals that this negative impact is more pronounced for non-heavily polluted and state-owned corporations and corporations located in three major agglomerations. This finding remains robust when employing an instrumental variable approach to address potential endogeneity. Our study contributes to the current literature by providing new insights regarding government environmental protection behaviors’ impacts on corporate green behaviors. The study also provides insights for policymakers to focus more on light-polluting corporations and state-owned corporations, because they have more chances to avoid environmental responsibilities.

Abstract:
Environmental protection is an essential issue in today’s society. With the increasing number of environmental problems and issues, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of the role of criminal law in environmental protection. This paper aims to explore the relationship between criminal law and environmental protection, determining the effectiveness of criminal law in addressing environmental threats. Also, through this study it is analyzed from a comparative point of view in relation to the legislation of the developed countries of the European Union, the shortcomings of the Albanian criminal legislation which need to be updated. Criminal law has also played an important role in protecting the environment by imposing penalties and punishments on individuals or corporations that violate environmental laws. However, there is a need to assess the effectiveness of criminal law in protecting the environment and the challenges it faces in achieving its objectives. This research aims to contribute to the existing literature on criminal law in environmental protection by providing a more complete understanding of its effectiveness and challenges. The findings of the study will assist policy makers in designing and implementing more effective environmental protection measures, resulting in the promotion of sustainable development.

The correlation between the concepts of radiation protection and environmental protection in the context of the application of the Euratom Treaty is a subject poorly covered in academic literature, but, nevertheless one of a perennial value and importance for the "nuclear" Europe. The aim of the text is to verify the extent to which the concept of radiation protection extends along the purview of the (much broader) concept of environment protection. Thus, an attempt is made to demonstrate whether the health and safety provisions of the Euratom Treaty and the relevant implementing legislation are solely aimed at protecting the health of humans and for that matter are only concerned with the effects of radiation only as far as they relate to the human factor, or indeed, additionally extend to the other elements comprising the environment.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the evolution process of the Protected Areas and the changes in views regarding environmental protection. It is a literature review. In Brazil and other countries, the Protected Areas were created according to international models with different conceptions, mainly the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) recommendations. In the IUCN International Protected Areas System, specific categories of strict sense protected areas allow natural resources and human occupation. In others not. The debate on this issue remains controversial worldwide. On the one hand, there are preservationists (strict protection believers) who argue that only sites with the objective of strict preservation should have the status of Protected Areas. Conservationists believe that such sites could maintain this status, even though they are not exclusively focused on strict preservation. The historical trend persists in considering land use and access to natural resources in occupying space, emphasizing issues of their domain and management, causing conflicts of views and interests. As a result, the establishment and maintenance of areas to be protected become more complex, mainly when they are historically occupied and used by man.

Over the past 30 years the literature has burgeoned with bioremediation approaches to heavy metal removal from wastes. The price of base and precious metals has dramatically increased. With the resurgence of nuclear energy uranium has become a strategic resource. Other ‘non-carbon energy’ technologies are driven by the need to reduce CO2 emissions. The ‘New Biohydrometallurgy’ we describe unites these drivers by the concept of conversion of wastes into new materials for environmental applications. The new materials, fashioned, bottom-up, into nanomaterials under biocontrol, can be termed ‘Functional Bionanomaterials’. This new discipline, encompassing waste treatment along with nanocatalysis or other applications, can be summarized as ‘Environmental Bionanotechnology’. Several case histories illustrate the scope and potential of this concept.

Abstract:
Human-centered environment issue is a phenomenon in the agenda as old as human history. In the earlier periods, it was not regarded as a common problem because environmental damage was not at a level that will negatively affect the ecosystem and living beings. In the modern period, especially after the industrial revolution, some solutions have been developed in national and international level after taking into consideration the damage of the environmental problems to animals and ecosystem on a global scale. Even though countries that were experiencing the problem on a national scale made some work on the issue, at the international level the problem has been brought to the agenda for the first time at the 1972 Stockholm Declaration in order to protect the environment. The Qur'an does not approve any illegitimate war against a state or a community. It is not recorded any war against a community by Prophet Muhammad without a legitimate reason. Islamic law proposes maximum legality and morality during a legitimate war. It is also seen that this Islamic perspective is grasped in terms of protecting the environment. When analyzing the opinion of jurists of the Islamic Law, it is seen that unnecessary destruction of the environmental values such as houses, trees and green spaces is prohibited, as a basic principle. Starting from this principle, the views of Islamic jurists about the provisions regarding damaging environmental factors such as trees, building, and green areas are limited on if there is military necessity. Thus, damage to the environment during the war is valid only for purposes of creating shield. The legitimacy of this requirement is also limited to not demolish unnecessarily. Women are very important figures to ensure sustainable development. This paper discusses the role of women in environmental protection from the perspective of eco-feminism and law. This research is a non-doctrinal legal research with a socio-legal approach. The data used are secondary data obtained through literature studies, then the data that has been obtained is analyzed qualitatively. It is learnt from the discussion that eco-feminism as a thought that criticizes the dominance of patriarchy over control of environmental management and has succeeded in encouraging environmental protection movements carried out by women in various countries. Women are key actors in using, managing and protecting natural resources. Environmental preservation is closely related to the role of women. From a legal perspective, eco-feminism is an effort by the people to seek justice as the main goal of law and ensure the principle of equality before the law inmonitoring, protecting and enjoying the benefits of environmental sustainability.

Abstract:
Abstract Research into and diagnosis of environmental change prior to the introduction of bioindicator methods were linked primarily to apparatus. Drawing attention to the reactions of organisms sensitive to that change and using them in environmental quality control have opened new opportunities for development of a new scientific discipline, known in the literature as bioindication. Bioindication combines several scientific disciplines, including biology, broadly conceived geography, and chemistry. It thus combines in a comprehensible manner apparatus-derived measurements (chemical analysis results) and areas of bioindicator exposure (situation and distance from the emitter), translating these parameters into bioindicators' anatomical and morphological reactions. The development of bioindicator methods progresses rapidly, and - as is usually the case under such circumstances - it is difficult to ensure that they are transparent and that no chaos ensues. In view of the above, it seems necessary to embark on a discussion of these issues and consider compiling lists of most applicable indicator organisms for examination of particular environmental toxins in particular environments.

Abstract:
Reducing environmental pollution is a particularly important issue, intensively studied nationally and internationally, as evidenced by the large number of scientific papers published on this topic. Literature studies show that reducing environmental pollution means not only reducing the amount of air / water / soil pollutants but also finding ways to recover waste from industrial activities that will reduce the problems of environmental pollution due to their storage. The materials resulting from the gasification processes of cellulose waste, as well as the materials obtained with the help of cellulose extracted from cellulose waste, were tested in the adsorption processes of some polluting species and the results demonstrated the efficiency of these materials for reducing the environmental pollution. The use of lignin as an adsorbent for the removal of pollutants (organic dyes or metal ions) from industrial wastewater can be considered a viable alternative, which can be a solution to both the problem of lignin recovery and the reduction of pollutant content in industrial wastewater.

Abstract:
Motor fuel taxes are primarily revenue-raising taxes. However, due to high fuel consumption these taxes can be quite an efficient source of general budget revenue in many countries. It seems that the taxes on motor fuels may also be useful instruments for environmental policy or climate change policy. Environmental objectives can be achieved through change of behavior of drivers. The paper presents theoretical basis for taxes levied on motor fuels. Attention is paid to the problem of external costs of transport and internalization of external costs by applying taxes on motor fuels. The article also contains a review of the European Union countries experience with taxes levied on motor fuels (such as: petrol, diesel oil, liquid petroleum gas and compressed natural gas). The author discusses the structure of fuel taxation and tax rates in different countries. Attention is also paid to the fuel taxes which are principally intended to change behavior, not to raise revenue (particularly carbon taxes) and to the ‘environmentally friendly’ tax differentiations. The paper is based on the available literature and reports published by various organizations (Eurostat, the OECD).

For environmental innovation, people’s knowledge is necessary to protect the environment. However, just knowing the importance of environmental protection does not lead to effective actions for environmental innovation (Kong & Lee, 2016). For knowledge to become action, it is important for people to be emotionally motivated. To study the emotional factor for environmental innovation, this study analyzes the literature on how emotions influence people’s purchase actions and proposes the idea of using arts to influence consumer's emotion and induce pro-environmental consumption (Kong & Lee, 2016). This research first reviews literature on the role of emotion for pro-environmental consumption. Then it explores if arts can induce consumer’s emotion to make decisions to buy green products or to participate in environmental protection. To seek empirical evidence, this research measures the willingness of a group of consumers to participate in a tree planting program before and after the participants are exposed to a piece of artwork. The preliminary findings of this study are valuable for understanding how to increase the adoption of certain innovative products or services of social value (Kong & Lee, 2016).

Abstract:
This research was a literature study that aims to understand the application of nanoparticles as heavy metal adsorbents, explore the role of nanoparticle technology in the context of environmental protection and human health, and identify effective nanotechnology. Industrial waste containing the heavy metal Fe can pose a serious threat to the environment and human health. In this study, we evaluated various literature sources discussing the use of nanoparticles, especially activated carbon, as effective adsorbents for removing heavy metals from water and waste. The results of literature studies show that the application of nanoparticles as adsorbents can increase the efficiency of filtration and heavy metal removal, which in turn contributes to environmental protection and human health. Additionally, this research identifies the important role of nanoparticle technology in various aspects, including water treatment, air pollution control, environmental monitoring, and the development of safer medicines. With proper application, nanoparticle technology can help reduce the risk of exposure to heavy metals and other pollutants, as well as improve water and air quality, which has a positive impact on human health and environmental sustainability. Identification of these most effective nanotechnologies can help guide the development of better solutions in the context of environmental protection and human health. This research provides deeper insight into the positive role of nanoparticle technology in addressing the environmental and health challenges faced by society.

Environmental pollution and its devastating effects, which have made their mark on the contemporary generation, have generated the need for policies to protect the environment, but at the same time to create a framework conducive to sustainable development. Although in the literature are now numerous concerns for refining the objectives, to identify appropriate methodologies to help protect the environment and ensure sustainable development, however there is no a clear picture about the strategies of development and environmental protection, especially in Romania. The research goal is to capture the impact of pollutant factors on the environment`development, as well as measures that could mitigate the harmful effects of it. The paper presents and analyzes the economic reality of Romania, by drawing up a report on the work of environmental protection agencies, Botoșani. Its importance consist in the fact that it represents an element of strategic guidance on long-term efforts to solve the environmental development and protection issue. Also, the study tries to capture the ability of some strategies of sustainable development on amount of time horizon of 2013-2020. As can be seen in the work, Romania has a relatively large domestic market and the second largest in Central and Eastern Europe, a qualified workforce with low costs compared to Western European countries, and Romania's economic prospects have been improved following the accession to the European Union.

This paper aims to determine the role of coping strategies and legal protection on Indonesian migrant workers. By focus on coping strategies and legal protection on migrant workers. Since they are indirectly correlated and cannot be parted from Indonesian Migrant Workers. That being the case, this paper examines these two issues by conducting a literature review and portraying them descriptively. Where it is related to the condition of Indonesian Migrant Workers and the difficulties, they face in the migration process. Coping strategies, in this case, act as PMI's efforts to overcome problems or challenges in the individual and social spheres. On the other hand, legal protection plays a role as an effort by the government to protect and be responsible for the rights of its citizens. Both coping strategies and legal protections have a substantial contribution to PMI's welfare condition. In consequence, the protection of PMI does not just rely on the government, but all parties include the private sector (businesses or sponsors) and PMI themselves.

Abstract:
The article analyzes theoretical approaches to the understanding system of principles of environmental protection law in Ukraine and the Republic of Poland. The author interprets fundamental normative-legal acts and summarizes views of Ukrainian and Polish scientists regarding the understanding of fundamental basics of environmental-legal regulation of social relations. The system of principles of environmental protection law of Ukraine is traditionally derived from the normatively established list of principles in Art. 3 of the Law of Ukraine “On Environmental Protection”. At the same time, more generalized or, conversely, detailed lists of the principles of environmental protection law are presented in educational and scientific Ukrainian legal literature. The Polish fundamental law on environmental protection does not contain a single list of principles, but includes a number of separate articles, united under the category of general principles of environmental- legal regulation. In the Polish environmental-legal doctrine (as well as in the Ukrainian one) there is no single approach to the systematization of principles. The article states the main approaches presented in the scientific literature and the proposed system of principles in the doctrines of both states, which coincide in many positions. At the same time, the author notes the tendency of recent years, both among Ukrainian and Polish scientists, to a broader analysis of principles of environmental protection law, which are based on general principles of EU law, such as justice, proportionality, subsidiarity. In a narrow understanding of principles of environmental protection law, scientists emphasize the principle of sustainable development, prevention, an integrated approach, and ensuring public participation. In environmental protection law of Poland, the principle of integration is of particular importance, which implies the need to take into account environmental protection issues in various sectoral policies, strategies, plans. In Ukraine, the principle of the ecosystem approach is gaining actual importance and significant attention in works of scientists.

Abstract:
This article treats the Enlightenment and Romanticism as ways of understanding the world (rather than chronologically defined intellectual movements). The article discusses the main philosophical attributes of these worldviews. It demonstrates how shifts from the symbolical reasoning to the Enlightenment, as well as from the Enlightenment to the Romanticism, transformed the Lithuanians’ relations to the natural surroundings. The article also underscores close connections between literature, philosophy and the Lithuanian environmental practices (i. e. environmental laws, and institutions of environmental protection). For this purpose literary examples (such as works by M. Hussovianus, H. D. Thoreau and P. Mérimée), as well as a tale about a boy raised by the bears in Lithuanian woods, are examined in the light of philosophical tendencies and political transformations. The article shows that the Enlightenment, a project based on rationalization and secularization of the world (an attempt to eliminate symbolical reasoning) brought with itself a view of nature as a resource, and a plan to reconstruct nature alonside the industrial model. The environmental protection of the Enlightenment was a science of optimizing the exploitation. The article shows that Romanticism was a rebellion against the Enlightenment, offering a new type of environmental protection: namely, protecting the nature as useful in-itself, and protecting it from the humans.

The Global Environmental Problem is becoming serious, which needs to maintain the environmental governance mechanism effectively. This study analyzes the marketization mechanism of environmental protection law under global governance to meet the environmental challenge. Analyzing the severe background of environmental problems, highlighting the urgency of global governance in environmental protection, it explores the main content of the market-oriented mechanism of environmental protection law. Using various research methods such as literature analogy and clause research, this topic is elaborated from different perspectives. The market-oriented mechanism of environmental protection laws helps to stimulate the environmental awareness of enterprises and individuals, promote the effective utilization of resources and sustainable development of the environment. Attention should be paid to exploring areas such as improving market supervision, strengthening international cooperation, and promoting technological innovation, in order to provide reference for a better global environmental governance mechanism.

Abstract The paper starts with a review of literature focusing on links between democracy and environmental protection, pointing out a fair weight of scientific evidence that democratic societies on average enjoy a higher level of environmental quality than autocracies. It subsequently provides a quick insight into the recent trends in the state of democracy and the rule of law in Poland as well as a few examples of measures taken concerning environmental policy that have been undertaken after 2015. The paper concludes by expressing concern about certain negative patterns in the Polish environmental policy in the past few years, which seem to be connected to the deficiencies in the rule of law and democracy as observed in Poland. The shrinking space for civil society to participate in democratic governance concerning environmental issues and the excessive appetite of the current government for large infrastructural investments seem to be in contradiction with the European and global strive for sustainable development and tackling climate change. It remains to be seen if the recent negative trends in the Polish environmental policy will have a structural impact on the state of environment in Poland.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to better understand the nexus between environmental taxes and other environmental management systems (EMSs) and to propose an alternative framework for implementing environmental protection tax (EPT) in China. Design/methodology/approach The study uses a multimethod approach encompassing document analysis and comparative analysis. The archival data covers laws, reports, regulations, guidelines and standards related to the EPT and EMS sub-systems in China. Findings The study identifies several institutional features of environmental taxes that have not been fully explored in past tax research. In addition, the study reveals that information-sharing mechanisms are key to addressing the risks and uncertainties associated with the implementation of an environmental tax and that the mechanisms are grounded in the nexus among EPT and two EMS sub-systems. Research limitations/implications The findings of this study have implications for the understanding of China’s environmental tax system, the Environmental Impact Assessment system and the pollutants discharge permit (PDP) system. The construction of an alternative framework provides insights for approaches to environmental taxation. A limitation of this study is that the application of the framework might be undermined by the inaccurate manual sampling, as some pollutants may be non-replicable. Practical implications The findings of this study are relevant to policymakers who are designing, improving or abandoning environmental taxes for alternate solutions to environmental issues. Social implications The insights gained from this study may be of assistance to lower the risks and uncertainties associated with the implementation of an environmental tax. Originality/value The study contributes to approaches to environmental taxes by constructing an alternative framework that connects an environmental tax system with two EMSs. The framework lays the groundwork for some promising research opportunities. Additionally, the study extends the tax accounting literature (Hanlon and Heitzman, 2010) by connecting accounting and environmental knowledge and developing a transdisciplinary approach. The study also contributes to the emerging body of literature that addresses the challenges in implementing environmental taxes in China.

The Philippines v China Award contained a number of novel and highly progressive findings with respect to obligations for the protection of the marine environment under UNCLOS. Thus far, these elements of the decision have gone largely unexamined in the surrounding literature. This article concentrates on two specific aspects of these findings: the obligations in respect of environmental impact assessments in articles 205 and 206, and articles 197 and 123 and the duty to cooperate. It analyses the Award and identifies some concerns with the Tribunal's reasoning in these areas. Although broadly, the Award upholds effective protections for the marine environment; this article highlights aspects of the decision in which different approaches could have been taken that would have led to stronger outcomes for the marine environment.

The mutual influence and interdependence of financial performance (FP) of resource usage and environmental performance (EP) is an important research area, which has particularly occupied the attention of researchers in the last decade. Increasing requirements for environmental protection, principles of circular economy and regenerative economy create an obligation for the enterprise management regarding efficient and effective management of environmental aspects of business with the aim of sustainability and improvement of EP. In addition, stakeholders of the enterprise are interested in the economic effects of implemented environmental actions on FP. The results of the research dealing with the relations between different indicators of EP and FP of resource use are mixed. Bearing in mind the above, the purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of research on the impact of EP on the FP of resource use, FP of resource use on EP and the interdependence of FP of resource use and EP.

Abstract:
Environmental investment of companies can not only bring profits to firms but also contribute to environmental protection. However, little is known about how chairperson characteristics affect companies’ decisions on environmental investment. This paper fills the gap in the literature by studying the impact of chairperson characteristics on firms’ environmental investment. For empirical evidence, we conduct a regression on environmental protection disclosure data of Chinese listed companies sourced from the CSMAR database. We find that China’s overall environmental protection disclosure level is relatively low. The age of the chairperson has an inverted U-shaped relationship with environmental investment, and a female chairperson has a significant positive effect on environmental investment. Contrarily, the education level and political connections of the chairperson have no significant impact on firms’ environmental investment. Understanding the effect of these factors will help companies plan their environmental protection activities more efficiently.

Abstract:
This comprehensive review delves into the evolving landscape of Nepalese agriculture, where 60.4% of the population is engaged in farming. As globalization reshapes the sector, Nepalese agriculture grapples with the transition from subsistence to market-oriented practices, marked by the widespread use of high-yielding varieties and chemical inputs. This shift, while addressing immediate food demands, has led to severe consequences, including soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, and threats to environmental sustainability. In response, traditional plant protection practices emerge as a beacon of hope, offering eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives. The review explores a plethora of indigenous strategies deployed by Nepalese farmers, ranging from handpicking pests to innovative approaches like the use of wooden ash, urine, dung, and bio-pesticides such as Jholmal. These methods not only provide immediate pest control but also align with sustainable ecological principles. The review underscores the importance of traditional practices like crop rotation, flooding, etc. providing a comprehensive overview of indigenous knowledge. However, amidst their effectiveness, these practices face the peril of extinction due to insufficient documentation and limited integration into mainstream research. The study advocates for a concerted effort to protect and promote these indigenous practices, not only for their role in sustainable plant protection but also as vital elements of Nepal’s cultural and agricultural heritage.

Abstract:
States around the world are progressively protecting environmental rights. The Constitution of Kenya 2010 provides for environmental rights under Articles 42, 69 and 70. However, this study argues that there is need to reconceptualise the right to a clean and healthy environment as established under Article 42, as the right is geared towards human utility rather than intrinsic environmental protection. Thus, the right is shrouded with anthropocentric concerns which may be construed as insufficient in the protection of natural resources, ecosystems and other non-human species for their ecological and intrinsic value. Accordingly, the study examines the right to a clean and healthy environment as envisaged in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and, from that context, assesses the efficacy of anthropocentric environmental rights in environmental conservation highlighting the potential challenges faced in their implementation. As a way forward, the study recommends bicentric environmental rights as an alternative to anthropocentric environmental rights. The study realises its objectives through the use of case law and literature review.

Abstract:
Environmental protection, as rational shaping of the environment, management of environmental resources following the principle of sustainable development, and counteracting pollution, is integrally related to the urban area. Therefore, most activities and initiatives are aimed at environmental protection in the cities, which are the living environment for half of the world’s population. Therefore, the necessary action is to reduce the impact of urban transport on the environment. In particular, increased road traffic in urban areas is a constant increase in pollutants introduced into the environment in the form of solid, liquid and gaseous substances, harmful to people, the environment and spatial structures. One such negative impact of transport is the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere. In the process of limiting it, actions are taken to shape urban transport systems and the mobility of city residents. In order to identify individual processes that are components of these activities, literature research was carried out, the results of which are presented in the article.

By the year 2050, the world population is estimated to reach 9.1 billion, which in-turn will increase demand for food production by 70% in developing countries. To fulfill the food security requirement over 1 billion population India need to produce an additional 5 million tons per year for the next 20 years to meet its food grain need of 300 million by 2020. Crop protection chemicals or pesticides are inherently toxic and therefore harmful for other non target organisms. The risk posed by these chemicals increased many-folds due to the fact that they do not stay at the intended target surface. Various mechanisms are involved in the movement of pesticides in different environmental components i.e., air, soil and water. Global literature survey showed that synthetic pesticides have potential risk to human and other life forms and unwanted side effects to the environment. In this paper, various studies are reviewed with the aim to understand the factors determining the occurrence of pesticides in far away places and disturbing ecological balance..

Abstract:
Chemical products are increasingly being used in all aspects of human life as science and technology advance. However, there are some drawbacks to chemical technology. For example, many chemical production will use large amounts of coal and petroleum, causing not only an energy shortage but also irreversible pollution to the environment. As a result, researchers' attention has gradually shifted to chemical environmental protection, energy sustainable development, and other disciplines subdivided from the chemical specialty. The research methods of literature review and information retrieval are used in this paper to investigate the application and development of chemical environmental protection technology in industrial production on the one hand, and more favorable methods for energy conservation on the other. This paper proposes targeted optimization measures for chemical environmental protection and sustainable energy development by analyzing existing problems in the chemical industry. People have the innovative ability to combine the benefits of the two and break free from the past recognition and reliance on traditional energy, which will play a critical role in promoting the development of social economy, ecological sustainability, energy utilization, and other fields.

Abstract:
Literature was a significant vehicle for ecological thinking in the post-World War ii Soviet Union. In early 1950 a group of Russian writers known as ‘villagers’ advanced environmental themes, equating preservation of the environment in the face of frenzied industrialization and modernization with the preservation of Russian culture itself. The work of the villagers – so known for their focus on the history and condition of the Russian village – reached its peak in the 1970s when many of them had gained a following among the Soviet intelligentsia as a result of their critical stand on the socialist transformation of rural areas and their advocacy for the protection of land, forests, and rivers. In this period, environmental, social, and moral motifs were artfully presented in village prose. From the mid-1980s a nationalistic element came to dominate their art. In the post-Soviet period this tendency deepened, leading finally to marginalization of village prose.

Abstract:
This research explores the importance of integrating environmental interests into the legal system, advocating justice for nature, and realizing a greener and more sustainable world. Based on a comprehensive literature review and critical analysis of relevant sources, this study identifies the key elements needed, namely effective environmental law enforcement mechanisms, active participation of stakeholders, and synergies that link community participation with environmental law awareness. A reliable law enforcement mechanism is a key pillar in environmental protection, involving a fair and efficient judicial process supported by robust law enforcement agencies and adequate sanctions. Stakeholders, including governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society, and the private sector, play a central role in policy formation, implementation monitoring, participation in decision-making, environmental advocacy, and increased awareness of environmental law. The combination of active community participation and environmental law awareness has a positive impact on maintaining environmental sustainability, with community participation covering environmental management, engaging in decision-making, and community empowerment. In contrast, environmental law awareness strengthens law enforcement, understands environmental rights and obligations, and encourages sustainable behavioral change. Thus, this comprehensive integration paves the way to a world in which the interests of nature are heard and protected, creating a more equitable and sustainable global ecosystem.

Abstract:
This study examines the impact of the 2018 “environmental protection fee to tax” policy on the charitable giving of polluting firms between 2015 and 2019 using a differences-in-differences method. This study found that implementing the “environmental protection fee to tax” policy reduced the level of charitable giving by polluters. The decline in charitable-giving levels was more pronounced among firms classified as heavy polluters, firms from the East of China, and non-state firms. The results suggest that the “environmental protection fee to tax” policy cannot only encourage firms to become more environmentally conscious but can also be used to determine the motivations behind firm charitable donations. The policy of changing environmental protection fees to taxes needs to be effectively implemented in China and strengthen the implementation effect. This study enriches the literature on environmental policies and firm charitable giving and provides empirical evidence on the economic consequences of the “environmental protection fee to tax” policy. It can also help polluters and regulators to understand the “environmental protection fee better to tax” policy and help the government to improve the external systems that regulate and guide corporate social responsibility.

The article examines the legal nature of the ecological state based on the analysis of foreign and national legislation. Attention is drawn to the fact that the term "ecological state” in various scientific literature is used in such meanings as "green state”, "ecostate”, "eco-centric state”, "ecologically oriented state”, "ecological state of social justice”, etc. The normative consolidation of the concept of "ecological state” in foreign countries was analyzed, the scientific literature, and using the systematic method of research, it is necessary to determine several directions of understanding of the "ecological state”. First, the concept of "ecological state” is widely used in foreign countries to describe political and socio-economic systems aimed at protecting the environment and natural resources. These concepts define the state's approach to environmental issues and often indicate that environmental issues are a priority for the government and citizens. Secondly, the "ecological state” must be understood as a system of legal regulation aimed at ensuring ecologically sustainable development through environmental protection and rational use of natural resources. Third, as a system of government bodies, which includes various structures and institutions responsible for the development, implementation and control of environmental policy. The features that determine its essence and content of an ecological state are summarized, namely: strict compliance with environmental legislation; supporting sustainable development and promoting the use of renewable energy sources; broad powers of environmental protection authorities; preservation of biodiversity; public participation and transparency; provision of environmental education and formation of citizens' eco-awareness; international cooperation in the field of environmental protection, etc. The author's definition of an ecological state is provided.

Abstract:
Manufacturing organizations must improve their environmental protection as this is the requirement of every stakeholder nowadays. At the same time, manufacturing organizations that pursue environmental protection goal should adopt eco-efficient supply chain integration as it has been known to improve environmental protection without sacrificing economic and operational performances. Nevertheless, there is a decline in integration among manufacturing organizations and their supply chain partners. Furthermore, investigations in the literature have been one-dimensional toward the relationship between practice and performance. It is obvious that current studies pointing toward energy-efficient practice to achieve eco-efficient supply chain integration but it is insufficient. Thus, this study objective is to investigate the impact of eco-efficient supply chain integration on environmental protection and proposing improvement for future research. This study has proposed an extended eco-efficient supply chain integration management model based on the gap in the literature and industry. This study elaborates on the importance of manufacturing organizations achieving environmental protection while understanding that organizations especially from developing countries cannot afford to move from economic and operational performances. The extended model proposed also underlines the improvement for eco-efficient supply chain integration management model and providing a breakthrough for future research to contribute to the organizational theory development and practical improvements.

Abstract:
The need to protect underground sources of drinking and household water supply. Many reasons, including climatic changes, an increase in anthropogenic pressure, and an increase in the need for drinking water, dictate the need to protect underground sources of drinking and domestic water supply. The USSR was the pioneer in the field of drinking water protection in the world. Already in 1956, USSR put an instruction on the establishment of sanitary protection zones (SPZ) into effect. The United States took the first steps in resolving this issue only seven years later. Along with Soviet developments, the USA and German guidelines are still fundamental and contain fundamental recommendations for groundwater protection. The requirements related to the protection of water intakes in the legislative acts of various states have been implemented at the international level (Directive 2000/60 / EU, Directive 2006/118 / EU), nationally (Australian National Strategy, USA Safe Drinking Water Law, PRC Law on Drinking Water Pollution Prevention and Control) and Local Levels (New Jersey safeguard zone (SGZ) Guidelines). Among the standard features is the allocation of belts in the S with different permitted use regimes: belt I (strict regime) - 10-50 m, belt II -50 days -10 years, belt III - the entire catchment area. Conclusions. Despite the fact that each country uses different approaches to protecting groundwater, in general, there is a similarity in the establishment and organization of SGZ for groundwater intakes, in which certain activities are prohibited or restricted. In the Russian Federation, it seems important to formalize the results of scientific research and existing experience in the protection of underground sources of drinking water supply in the form of Guidelines to allow ensuring optimal management of drinking water resources and preserve the quality of drinking water, to guarantee their availability in the future.

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to build an ecological early warning indicator system. Several complex and interlinked factors contribute to changes in the environmental quality of scenic areas. If changes in these factors can be monitored and controlled, the environmental quality of scenic areas can also be controlled, achieving the purpose of protecting the ecological environment. This study utilizes ecological early warning indicators to enable environmental management. Twenty-six early warning indicators are first identified through a literature review, interviews, and survey pretesting. A fuzzy analytic hierarchy process is then used to calculate the weights of different levels/hierarchies. These early warning indicators can be used both to assess the environmental quality of scenic areas, and to provide a foundation for the construction of an ecological early warning indicator system in scenic areas. This approach represents a new perspective on scenic area environmental management and ecological protection.

Abstract:
Although conservation and development are two facets of sustainability, they are often placed in contradictory positions. In this context, planning systems are able to respond to investment pressure, especially in countries with underdeveloped institutional solutions for this purpose, and are consequently characterized by a shifting relationship between spatial planning and environmental protection. Although these issues have been relatively well conceptualized, the literature still lacks more in-depth analyses of selected case studies. In order to fill the gap, this study aimed to identify potential ways to protect the environment and natural values in urban areas from investment pressures in countries with less developed planning systems, based on a comparative Polish-Romanian perspective. The method consisted of comparing the national legal frameworks for environmental protection and spatial development and analyzing in detail two case studies from each country. The findings indicate that national protection is required in both countries to ensure the effective protection of natural areas situated within city administrative limits that provide important ecosystem services. Moreover, the results reveal the need for more research on similar areas using multi-scale interdisciplinary approaches and reviewing planning theory with respect to its efficiency in protecting nature.

Abstract:
The biodegradation of wood and wood products caused by fungi is recognized as one of the most significant problems worldwide. To extend the service life of wood products, wood is treated with preservatives, often with inorganic compounds or synthetic pesticides that have a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, the development of new, environmentally friendly wood preservatives is being carried out in research centers around the world. The search for natural, plant, or animal derivatives as well as obtaining synthetic compounds that will be safe for humans and do not pollute the environment, while at the same time present biological activity is crucial in terms of environmental protection. The review paper presents information in the literature on the substances and chemical compounds of natural origin (plant and animal derivatives) and synthetic compounds with a low environmental impact, showing antifungal properties, used in research on the ecological protection of wood. The review includes literature reports on the potential application of various antifungal agents including plant extracts, alkaloids, essential oils and their components, propolis extract, chitosan, ionic liquids, silicon compounds, and nanoparticles as well as their combinations.
