This investigation was undertaken to study the effects of adrenergic and ischaemic challenge on the activity of lipid metabolising enzymes in the perfused rat heart. Perfusion with adrenaline or the beta agonist isoprenaline produced an increase in triglyceride lipase (TGL) activity and a fall in glycerol 3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) activity. Soy protein isolate was hydrolysed with gastrointestinal enzymes, pepsin and pancreatin. The hydrolysate (SPH) was sequentiaUy fractionated using ultrafiltration (UF), gel filtration (GF) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and tested at each stage to select the bioactive fractions. All fractions were tested for antioxidant activity by the peroxide value and TBARS methods in a linoleic acid containing system. Intercalation of trypsin into the galleries of Na+-MMT and MMT/POP2000 was successfully achieved. The adsorption/intercalation amount of trypsin in MMT/POP2000 was found 2.4-fold higher than that in Na+-MMT although both of their d-spacings maintained at 5.7 nm.
