Objectives: Vestibular epilepsy refers to epilepsy in which vertigo is the sole or main symptom of a seizure. However, epilepsy is rarely considered as a differential diagnosis in patients complaining of dizziness. Here, we reviewed ten cases of vestibular epilepsy and analyzed the dizziness complained by the patient. Methods: In this study, the medical records of dizziness patients with epileptic discharges observed on electroencephalogram were retrospectively analyzed. Vertigo or dizziness is a common neurological symptom, but it is rarely regarded as the first presenting symptom of epilepsy. Patients who present with vertigo as the first symptom of epilepsy may be misdiagnosed or missed diagnose. We report a case presenting with vertigo or dizziness as the first manifestation of epilepsy and review relevant literature. A 71-year-old female patient sought medical attention in view of paroxysmal dizziness for a year that progressively worsened over the course of 1 week. Initially, her dizziness occurred 2 or 3 times a month, lasting for less than a minute eac

This is a retrospective chart review of children/adolescents with refractory epilepsy treated with brivaracetam from 2016 to 2018. The primary outcome was seizure reduction (decrease in seizure frequency >50%). Twenty-three patients were identified. Mean age at initiation was 12.5 years. Fourteen were females. Epilepsy was focal in 11, generalized in 6, and mixed in 3. Average dose was 3.9 mg/kg/d. The mean duration of treatment was 8.2

ABSTRACTEpilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects many people worldwide. Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most common and most studied type of epilepsy, but the pathological mechanisms underlying this condition are poorly understood. More than 20 antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) have been developed and used for the treatment of epilepsy; however, 30% of patients still experience uncontrolled epilepsy and associated comorbidities, which impair their quality of life. In addition, various side effects have been reported for AEDs, such as drowsiness, unsteadiness, dizziness, blurred or doubl

The most common side effects of levetiracetam include drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia, diplopia, memory impairment and paresthesia. Among well-known side effects such as dizziness, nausea, headache and diplopia medical treatment of epilepsy may cause side effects on cognition, mood and behavior. In special constellations this can profoundly affect compliance with the medication as well as quality of life. Some patients are more vulnerable to side effects than others. Side effects can have profound impact on the development and future life of a patient. Some antiepileptic drugs (e.g. topiramate, zonisamide) show a more severe side effect profile than others (e.g. lamotrigine, levetiracetam). Thus, in the treatment of epilep
