Knowledge, over the last century, has been grounded mainly in the institution of empirical science. This epistemological tradition is tightly linked to positivism and objectivity. Feminists from various disciplines, including that of Criminology, have become disillusioned in the ability of traditional empiricism to produce knowledge that is relevant, historically and socially, to women, and based in their everyday experience. Feminists have proposed alternative epistemological frameworks to explore questions driven by political feminist agendas. In the present article, an overview of these new

My primary focus is in articulating a theory of knowledge that can support a robust, justice-driven conception of democracy and deliberation. I argue that it is not possible to achieve this task without conceiving knowledge as explicitly social in a significant way. A central focus in my argument is thus what kind of sociality is required for the epistemology of democratic deliberation to be adequate. Building on this focus, I claim that inclusive deliberation can be epistemologically transformative. My goal is an articulation of the epistemic value of inclusive deliberation - I argue that suc

AbstractThis chapter sets out the epistemological lenses and the central theoretical concepts guiding this research. Given the many theories and models regarding the intersection of gender and migration, it is important to highlight those that inspire this research and help to investigate and better understand how gender affects migration processes and, vice versa, how migration impacts gender relations. The first section of this chapter presents the main perspectives adopted here: feminist and constructivist epistemology. The next section discusses patterns of various migration trajectories.
