Su, Xiaobei. "L’invention de la Chine par Victor Segalen : une expérience interculturelle." Brest, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010BRES1011.
Full textVictor Segalen is a “discoverer” as well as an “inventor” of the treasures of ancient China, with the latter literally meaning the former in French legalist language. He’s “discovery” of China is also an invention because he committed himself to it with all his personality, imagination, sensibility and questions. China, in Segalen’s writing, testifies the degradation of an old empire and the preservation of nature: natural landscapes, ancient civilization and fiistory which enabled possible his tracing the origins. In parallel, China is for Segalen a source of inner experiences and is discovery maintains him in a deep and poetic spirit, corresponding to his request for himself. China is crucial to Segalen’s personal, cultural and literary life and the image of China he created is such an encoded one that reflects the writer’s inner world

Full textThe norwegian writer johan bojer ( 1872-1959 ) first visited france in 1895 and in 1902 was offered the position of aftenposten correspondent in paris. He satayed there 5 years and established close relationships with a lot of left-wing politicians and writers. The subjects dealt with in the articles are cultural and inspired by contemporary issues concerning the life of france in those days. In 1915, aftenposten applied to bojer to cover the situation created in france by the war. The subjects reviewed are military, human, psychological. Once he was back in norway, bojer edited his articles into a booklet and delivered 80 public lectures thus causing a change in norwegian mentalities in favour of the allies. Although a number of bojer's works are sunk into oblivion, yet 3 of them are still read ("the last viking", " emigrants ", (seasidev people") for the matter and the manner they are akin to the press direct reports he had got to train himself to when he was in france, a job which had forced him to do away with the bias to more or less foggy concepts and long-drawn explanations ha had previously been criticised for

Full textPublished in volumes between 1894 and 1917 by the former bookshop Furne, Paul d’Ivoi’s "Voyages Excentriques" made up a collection which was very much valued by the youth of the Edwardian Era.These adventure novels, in the tradition of Jules Verne, were highly representative of their time with plots deeply rooted in the political ideas pervading then. They were anxious to contribute to the patriotic and moral moulding of their readers and applied to support the colonial work of France while promoting the values of the French Republic and celebrating its influence all over the world. The action, which often deals with international diplomatic stakes, sends the characters abroad to meet other nationalities whose visions reflect their relationships with France, whether friendly or of conflict. However the "Voyages Excentriques" swing from reality into fiction using the various means that adventure novels, then at their peak, offered them. Exotism and scientific extravagance are the main themes, often accompanied with detective stories or spy fiction as secondary sorts. When writing his adventure novels, Paul d’Ivoi carefully paid attention to differentiating himself from his predecessors, asserting his own manner by inventing wonderful scientific gadgets or giving a preponderant role to women. His books were a great success at the turn of the 20th century as New Year’s gifts, school prizes, popular manuals or cheap serials which were adapted on stage or even in movies. He is most original in his dealing with eccentricity which is to be found all through his collection of Belle Epoque novels
Loué, Thomas. "La Revue des Deux Mondes, de Buloz à Brunetière : de la belle époque de la revue à la revue de la Belle Epoque." Paris 1, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998PA010659.
Full textFrom the eighteen thirties until the eighteen eighties, the revue des deux mondes experienced an exceptionnal phase of development which placed it in a dominant position in the world of reviews, as well as in intellectual spheres. This period of good fortune was the result of a restricted public forum: heavy constraint in the field of printed matter, continuing limited intellectual activity, etc. . . Following the establishment of the republican regime in the eighteen eighties, the revue des deux mondes was faced with a considerable easing of restrictions surrounding intellectual activity and, consequently, the conditions which had previously favoured growth were challenged. This study focuses on the processes which weakened the review's dominant position. Following the period of power which established the review's domination, the study highlights the increasing inadequacy of the revue des deux mondes to adapt to the new socio- historical climate brought about by the liberalisation of social structures, which, in particular, saw a proliferation of printed periodicals as well as increased competition. This was known as the period of unease for the revue des deux mondes. Finally, the study concentrates on the manner in which the review attempted to compensate for its loss of institutional domination through the strengthening of its voice, and also by affirming a process of ideological differentiation. This explains what can be qualified, from the mid nineteen nineties, as the descent into cultural opposition which brought together the revue des deux mondes and another victim of the democratisation of society - catholic France. Under these circumstances, the change over from the Bulozs to brunetiere proved critical, since the former had always been litterary entrepreneurs first and foremost, while the latter was considered to be an intellectual, enabling him to make the voice of the review heard, hence facilitating the fusion of institution and ideology. Initially a review for authors, the revue des deux mondes had become a militant review reflecting the preoccupations of its public
Lecaplain, Manon. "« Des corps qu’on offre en spectacle à la foule » ? : Les revues du nu en France, 1902-1914." Thesis, Université Paris sciences et lettres, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021UPSLN003.
Full textFalling “from the heights of art in the mud of obscenity”: this is how the revues du nu, the first French magazines of nude photographic models (1902-1914), are qualified in 1912 by a member of a morality league. Sold as catalogues of poses for artists, the revues du nu are at the origin of an academic discourse that legitimizes the publication of nude photography. However, this justification is bitterly contested in the era of a Europe in search of moralization, and these publications are therefore subject to accusations of obscenity. Placed at the heart of a debate between art and immorality, the subject suffers from a cultural illegitimacy that will remain, throughout time, associated to them. They are, however, true reflectors of the mentalities of the time. Being collections of predominantly female nudes, the discourse they deliver through both the images and text relays the ideological constructions that dominate their society, while, perhaps, contributing to the latter in shaping them: the language used is one of a masculine, white and virile man. Bodies are posed, imposed and exposed by the revues du nu, turning them into a carnal consumer product, the pillar of a visual prostitution. In doing so, the nude magazines are the actors of a mass eroticism whose academic tradition, on which they based their argument, reaffirms their legitimacy. Objects of art and of society, they are at the heart of a history of bodies and of sexuality, a history of representations and of mentalities

Full textDespite the plethora of existing structures on the poetic work of Aimé Césaire and Léopold Sédar Senghor, there is little about the operation of the imagination through the literary concepts of the epic and lyricism. While sharing a common history, Senghor and Césaire experiencing a political, cultural identity and different. They thus address the different epic and lyrical concepts that take into account the history, the struggle, the expression of feelings, singing, art, the intrusion of fantasy and myth. Specifically, a backdrop of a marked fantasy, epic narrates the glory of a hero or the history of a community. And lyricism is structured as an expression of personal feelings which the poet sings his emotions, joys, sorrows and aspirations towards an Ideal
Richter, Klaus Max Erich. "Mit dem Hörer ins Gespräch kommen : Situationsbezug der Predigt in der Epoche Johann Michael Sailers im Vergleich zur Gegenwart." Thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/14607.
Full textPreaching in the church today faces manifold challenges. The dynamic web of relationships between preacher and audience, text and situation is difficult to keep in balance. When analysing the homiletic publications of the present and recent past, it becomes apparent that the sermon is very thoroughly reflected with the context of the situation of the audience. In this connection, one has to draw attention to a possible conflict: a sermon designed with regard to the situation of the audience may be tempted to neglect the biblical text and its demands. Therefore, this thesis aims to make a clarifying contribution to the question of the audience orientation of sermons, namely by means of a homiletic comparison of the epoch of Johann Michael Sailer with the present and recent past. In spite of all critical distance to the history of thought of the Enlightenment Movement, we should not overlook the fact that fruitful impulses emanated from this time, and that, for example, many concerns of the “Catholic Enlightenment” were addressed again at the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). The homiletic efforts of the Enlightenment period in the 18th century, which were widely led by anthropological interests, can be recognized as analogous to the current situation. The homiletic conception of the pastoral theologian and later Bishop of Regensburg, Johann Michael Sailer (1751-1832), will be described in particular. His conception of Christian ethical teaching on a biblical foundation is of timeless relevance. As comparison, the homiletic drafts of Ernst Lange, Rudolf Bohren, Wilfried Engemann and Rolf Zerfaß will be exemplarily analysed, particularly with regard to the expectation of the audience.
