Abstract:
This paper evaluates the performance of composites made from date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) midribs reinforced with carbon fiber. Two types of adhesives—unsaturated polyester and epoxy resin—were used as binder for the experimental panels. The physical properties and mechanical strength of the composites, as a function of fiber types, lamination configuration, as well as adhesive types, were determined. The density levels of the panels made using epoxy and unsaturated polyester resin were found to be 1103 kg/m3 and 1133 kg/m3, respectively. Panels made using polyester adhesive had 6.05% an

In order to enhance the stiffness and strength characteristics of wood, hybrid laminates consisting of spruce wood with (a) graphite-epoxy and (b) polyester-glass cloth were made. These hybrid laminates were tested for tension, three-point bending and cantilever bending to estimate the effectiveness of the lamination. The results obtained suggest that using graphite-epoxy lamination rather than wood significantly increased the stiffness compared to the polyester-glass, but did not increase the failure load capabilities in three point bending.

Powder coating is environmentally friendly and safe in terms of human health and is used especially on home appliances and in the automotive sector. Because of these advantages, recent studies have expanded work on the application of powder coating on non-conductive surfaces. The purpose of the current research is to determine the effect of fiber type, volume ratio, and matrix type on the vibration properties of sandwich beams made of composite face sheet and core. The typical sandwich structure consists of three layers: face sheets, core, and adhesive bonding, and in this research, the adhesive layer between the face sheets and core was abolished by preparing the overall mold with fibers inside and casting the resin to fill the face sheet and core parts. The face sheets of the composite beams are made from a polyester or epoxy matrix reinforced with glass fiber, c

During the last few years, natural fiber reinforced polymer composites are widely used due to their advantages such as ease of fabrication, low density, biodegradability, low thermal conductivity, renewability, nontoxicity, combustibility and low cost of production. Prediction of mechanical and thermal properties of fiber reinforced polymer hybrid composites is a challenging task for current simulation techniques, so does the need to understand the numerical simulation of such materials. Thermally sprayed polymer coatings are of interest to several industries for anti-corrosion applications, including the infrastructural, chemical, automotive, and aircraft industries. Classical experiments were conducted, from which a substantial range of thermal processing conditions and their effect on the resultant coating were obtained. The fiber reinforced polymers are candidate materials for critical applications in view of the high strength, stiffness characteristics; however, they are highly anisotropic and have complex failure mechanisms. Thermo-mechanical response characterization is one of the means of identifying damage progression in these materials. In this study, tensile tests were conducted on the hybrid composite laminates and Infrared thermographs were used to capture the thermal response of the specimen for the entire range of loading till failure. The tests were conducted on natural fiber composite specimens a
