The asymptotic standard errors of the estimates of the equated scores by several types of item response theory (IRT) true score equatings are provided. The first group of equatings do not use IRT equating coefficients. The second group of equatings use the IRT equating coefficients given by the moment or characteristic curve methods. The equating designs considered in this article cover those with internal or external common items and the methods with separate or simultaneous estimation of item parameters of associated tests. AbstractThe usual way of solving a solvable quintic equation has been to establish more equations than unknowns, so that some relation among the coefficients comes up, leading to the solutions. In this paper, a relation among the coefficients of a principal quintic equation is established by effecting a change of variable and inserting a root to the quintic equation, and then equating odd-powers of the resulting sextic equation to zero. This leads to an even-powered sextic equation, or equivalently a cubic equation; thus one needs to solve the cubic equation. We break from this tradition, rathe

Abstract:
Soret coefficients of aqueous phosphoric acid and aqueous iodic acid are determined conductimetrically at 25 °C. As the molality of phosphoric acid drops from 0.05 toward 0.00 mol kg−1, the enthalpy of transport jumps from 2 to 15 kJ mol−1. For iodic acid, a stronger electrolyte, the corresponding increase is smaller, from 12 to 17 kJ mol−1. Equations are developed for the enthalpy of transport of 1:1 weak electrolytes. The equations are used to evaluate the reactive enthalpy of transport and the intrinsic enthalpies of transport of the ionized and molecular forms of phosphoric and iodic acids

In particular, boundary summation equation (BSE) preconditioning for FD approximations for ODEs with constant coefficients on locally refined meshes is studied. Secondly, the obtained linear system of equations are solved by the iterative method GMRES. In this paper we prove the well-posedness for a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) whose solution is a probability-measure-valued process. We allow the coefficients to depend on the median or, more generally, on the γ-quantile (or some its useful extensions) of the underlying distribution. Such SPDEs arise in many applications, for example, in auction system described in [2]. The well-posedness of this SPDE does not follow by standard arguments because the γ-quantile is not a continuous function on the space of probability measures equipped with the weak convergence.

Abstract Natural convection loops can occur when extracting energy from thermal storage with immersed “load-side” heat exchangers. To assist in heat exchanger design and annual performance simulations of such systems, this paper proposes modeling the natural convection loop with a comparatively simple “ersatz” thermosiphon loop (ETL). In a “real” thermosiphon loop, fluid in channels (such as pipes) flows in a closed loop under the influence of a net buoyancy head. The flow/temperature solution is derived by equating buoyancy head to total pressure drop. In the proposed approach, the “ersatz” f

Then, the probability of failure estimation is generalized for any random input and performance functions. For the generalization of the probability of failure e
