Abstract:

<p>Husaberg Scandinavia AB is a company producing and developing a range of motorcycles for both on- and off-road use. Husaberg provided the project group with a task of developing an entirely new way of operating the sequential transmission that can be found in today’s motorcycles. The target was to bring the product from idea to a functional prototype ready for further tests. Operation of the motorcycles transmission is today made by a foot pedal placed on the left hand side of the bike. This position is not optimal and therefore sometimes forces the driver to operate the bike in a faulty gear during certain circumstances as in sharp left turns and in technical sections where the driver uses the legs for side support. This results in loss of time which can’t be afforded during a race. In certain cases the foot pedal can be severely damaged which may even force the driver to leave the competition. The competition between companies in this business is really though. Innovation and product developing are therefore key elements for a company’s future existence. The work during the project has resulted in a new product which exceeds all the demands that the user puts to it. Effort has been made to include factors as functionality, technical height and user friendliness. The project started of with creative thinking, user surveys and examinations within known technique. A great number of methods have thereafter been used to develop a final idea and a functional prototype. The result is EQS, Electronic Quick Shift. A product that enhances the possibility of changing gears during the most demanding circumstances. The product gives the driver an optimal control over the gear operation, resulting in a more effective driving style and the saving of time during every race. By moving the operation of the transmission from today’s foot pedal to buttons on the handle bar, change in gears can be made even when the driver uses the legs as support. EQS allows for great possibilities when it comes to further development. For example EQS may offer persons with functional disorders the possibility and freedom of driving a motorcycle. In the future EQS may also add better fuel efficiency and a decrease of emissions on motorcycles equipped with the system.</p>

Abstract:

This study analyzes and maps barriers preventing Sri Lankan female workers in Export Processing Zones (EPZs) from participating in awareness raising activities by NGOs. These barriers can furthermore be discussed as preventing them from an enhanced empowerment. The gathered data is mostly based on interviews conducted during a three-week long fieldtrip in Sri Lanka. By using both a literature analysis on the field of research together with group interviews with both female EPZ workers as well as with personnel from a women’s organization in Sri Lanka the study identifies five barriers hindering the women’s participation; time and distance; lack of motivation or interest; limited knowledge of the organization; someone opposing the choice; and fear of loosing the employment. The study derives the root-causes of the barriers to the current social norms and roles, which are internalized in the young women’s mind from their background as well as through the reproduction of them in their new environment, but also to EPZs as discouraging an improvement of the women’s situation.

Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In the quest to attract foreign investments which is seen as one way of alleviating poverty by creating employment opportunities and earning foreign currency many countries have implemented the EPZ regime. Though the concept remains the same throughout the world, it has adopted different names depending on the country. In Mexico the EPZ's are called the "Maquiladoras" and in Bulgaria EPZ's are called Free Trade Zones. No matter the differences in names the concept is principally the same: EPZ is an enclave which operates outside the normal economic framework of the country. At independence Namibia faced a high unemployment rate and poverty. In 1995 the Namibian government passed the EPZ Act in order to pave the way for the development of EPZ industrial parks. The need for passing the EPZ Act was necessitated by the acute unemployment rate which the country faced at the time, which had the potential to threaten the political stability the country enjoyed. Thus, amongst other policy instruments, the EPZ Act was passed with the principle objective of attracting the much needed foreign investments which would result in creation of the needed employment opportunities. The government set a very ambitious target for the EPZ regime; it was expected that by 1999 the EPZ regime would have created about 25 000 job opportunities. Thus, the anticipated number of job opportunities was quite frequently used as a justification for the massive investments provided for the development of infrastructures in the EPZ industrial parks and hefty subsidies which were extended to some EPZ companies. It is important to note that unlike other countries who adopted the location-based EPZ model, Namibia has adopted a flexible EPZ model implying that a company which acquires the EPZ status is free to locate or set-up its facility anywhere in the country. In 2003 a Malaysian textile company called Ramatex closed its operations in South Africa and relocated to Namibia. In terms of employment creation the EPZ reached its peak in 2004 when about 10 057 persons / individuals were actively employed in the EPZ companies. Ramatex accounted for about 80% of the total of 10 057 EPZ jobs. Since 2004 the number of jobs in the Namibian EPZ regime started to decline at an alarming rate; at the end of 2007 there were only 5 248 people employed by the EPZ companies. Many times Ramatex threatened to close its operations, citing decline in the demand of its products and low productivity, but after some closed-door negotiations the government initially managed to convince it to continue its operation. Regrettably the success of the Namibian government to convince Ramatex to continue with its operation in Namibia was short-lived, when in the first quarter of 2008; the inevitable closure of Ramatex became a reality. The closure of Ramatex has resulted in the retrenchment of about 3 000 people. The overall performance of the Namibian EPZ regime leaves a lot to be desired. The Namibian EPZ regime so far failed to attract enough investments to create the anticipated job opportunities and to increase the export of manufactured goods. On a positive note, EPZ regime compelled the authority to invest in infrastructures which it might otherwise not have invested in.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: In die soeke na 'n wyse om buitelandse beleggings te trek as een van die maniere om armoede te verlig deur die skepping van werksgeleenthede en die verkryging van buitelandse valuta, het baie lande die EPZ-regime geimplementeer. Hoewel die konsep dwarsdeur die wereld dieselfde bly, het dit verskillende name in verskillende lande. In Meksiko word dit die UMaquiladoras' genoem en in Bulgarye is dit Vryehandelsones. Ongeag wat dit genoem word , bly die konsep in wese dieselfde: EPZ is 'n enklave wat buite die normale ekonomiese raamwerk van die land opereer. Toe Namibia onafhanklik geword het, het die land gebuk gegaan onder 'n hoe werkloosheidskoers en armoede. In 1995 het die Namibiese regering die Wet op EPZ uitgevaardig om ruimte te skep vir die ontwikkeling van EPZ-nywerheidsparke. Die akute werkloosheidskoers van die land op daardie tydstip het dit noodsaaklik gemaak dat hierdie wet uitgevaardig word, aangesien die werkloosheid potensieel die politieke stabiliteit in die land kon bedreig. As deel van ander politieke instrumente is die Wet op EPZ dus uitgevaardig, met as hoofdoelwit die 10k van broodnodige buitelandse beleggings wat sou lei tot die skepping van die ewe nodige werksgeleenthede. Die regering het 'n baie ambisieuse doelwit vir die EPZregime gestel; dit sou na verwagting teen 1999 nagenoeg 25 000 werksgeleenthede skep. Die verwagte getal werksgeleenthede is dus dikwels gebruik as regverdiging vir die massiewe beleggings wat voorsien is vir die ontwikkeling van die infrastrukture in die EPZ nywerheidsparke asook die groot subsidies toegestaan aan sommige EPZ-maatskappye. Dit is belangrik om daarop te let dat, anders as ander lande waar die EPZ-model plekgebonde was, Namibia 'n buigsame EPZ-model aanvaar het. Dit het geimpliseer dat 'n maatskappy wat EPZ-status verwerf het, sy fasiliteit enige plek in die land kon vestig. 'n Maleisiese tekstielmaatskappy met die naam Ramatex het in 2003 sy bedryf in Suid Afrika toegemaak en na Namibie verhuis. Sover dit die skepping van werksgeleenthede aangaan, het die EPZ in Namibie in 2004 sy hoogtepunt bereik, toe ongeveer 10 057 persone / individue aktief in diens van die EPZ-maatskappye was. Ramatex het ongeveer 80% van die totale 10057 EPZ-werksgeleenthede voorsien. Sedert 2004 het die getal werksgeleenthede in die Namibiese EPZ-regime teen 'n ontstellende koers afgeneem, sodat daar teen die einde van 2007 net 5248 mense in diens van die EPZ-maatskappye was. Ramatex het by verskeie geleenthede gedreig om sy bedrywighede te sluit weens die afname in die vraag na sy produkte en lae produktiwiteit, maar na onderhandelinge agter geslote deure het die regering aanvanklik daarin geslaag om Ramatex te oortuig om voort te gaan. Hierdie sukses van die Namibiese regering was ongelukkig van korte duur, aangesien die onafwendbare sluiting van Ramatex in die eerste kwartaal van 2008 werklikheid geword het. Die gevolg was die afdanking van ongeveer 3 000 mense. Die oorkoepelende prestasie van die Namibiese EPZ-regime is ver van bevredigend. Hierdie regime het tot nou toe nie daarin geslaag om genoeg beleggings te lok om die verwagte werksgeleenthede te skep en die uitvoer van vervaardigde produkte te verhoog nie. Aan die positiewe kant het die EPZ-regime die owerheid gedwing om te bele in infrastrukture waarin hulle andersins nie sou bele het nie.

During NDE, one experiences phenomena as out of body experience, meetings with supernatural agents, travels through a transcendent reality or even seeing what is happening around the body. The aim of this study is to verify if there is any correlation between mystical experience and NDE. We suggest that there is correlation, and maybe this is the responsible for initiate changes in perception and meaning one sees in life. About the method, we used two scales: Hood‟s Mysticism Scale (M Scale) and Greyson‟s NDE Scale. We had 350 valid answers (N=350). 14% had experienced NDE, 13% had already been in risk of death, but hadn‟t experienced NDE, and 73% had never been in risk of death. The statistical analysis was made with SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Factor 3 had statistical significance (p=0,01) for both the groups that had been in risk of death. According to correlational analysis, the higher scores in Greyson‟s NDE Scale, the bigger scores in Factor 3 of Hood‟s M Scale. We concluded that there is correlation between NDE and introvertive mysticism<br>Experiência de Quase Morte (EQM) é uma experiência mística que ocorre durante ou próximo da morte clínica. Durante a EQM, a pessoa vivencia fenômenos como experiência fora do corpo, encontro com seres sobrenaturais, visita a uma realidade transcendente ou, ainda, observação da cena em que o corpo está. O objetivo desta tese é verificar se há correlação entre experiência mística e EQM. A hipótese é que há correlação, o que desencadearia mudanças na percepção e atribuição de sentido para a vida. O método foi aplicação das escalas: Escala M de Misticismo de Hood e a Escala de EQM de Greyson. Obtivemos 350 respostas válidas (N=350), sendo que 14% teve EQM, 13% correu risco de morte, sem EQM, e 73% nunca correu risco de morte iminente. Na análise estatística com o SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) constatou-se significância estatística no Fator 3 – misticismo de introversão da Escala M entre os grupos que teve EQM e que correu risco de morte, mas não teve EQM (p=0,01). De acordo com a análise de correlações, quanto maior o resultado na Escala de EQM de Greyson, maior também a pontuação no Fator 3. Abstract:

Закріплене в Конституції рішення України стати членом Європейського Союзу вимагає докорінної перебудови у всіх сферах діяльності з метою приведення їх до європейських стандартів, таких як European Qualification Framework (EQF) – кваліфікаційні рамки оцінки експертів у різних сферах діяльності, які забезпечують єдині підходи до розуміння і порівняння рівня кваліфікації фахівців, отриманої в різних країнах із різними системами освіти і навчання і є важливим показником для роботодавців у країнах ЄС. EQF – це 8-рівнева структура, що відображує знання, навички та компетентність (відповідальність і автономію), набуті експертом у результаті навчання (формального та неформального) та в процесі професійної діяльності (в якості професіонала чи волонтера), а також особисті досягнення, як показника ефективного використання набутих знань, навичок і досвіду. Процедура сертифікації EQF та визначення рівня апліканта відбувається шляхом розгляду особистої анкети в форматі EuroPass / EurEthICS ETSIA та верифікації документів, що підтверджують його освіту, досвід та досягнення. Просування EQF в галузі фізичної культури і спорту в країнах ЄС (в т. ч. кандидати на вступ в ЄС) здійснює EurEthICS ETSIA – організація, яка є партнером Європейського Парламенту, зареєстрована в Бюро з інтелектуальних питань ЄС і має права на сертифікацію освітніх послуг (реєстраційне свідоцтво № 016602526). Українській Академії Будо і Спортивних Єдиноборств ВСОСКБ (УАБСЄ), як українському відділенню EurEthICS ETSIA, делеговано право самостійної сертифікації визнаних в ЄС експертів 1–6 рівнів EQF та надавати EurEthICS ETSIA рекомендації до сертифікації експертів 7–8 рівнів EQF зі східних традиційних бойових систем (Будо) та спортивних єдиноборств. Мета – є визначення пріоритетних завдань та шляхів розробки національної структури рамкових вимог (NQF) сертифікації експертів Будо і спортивних єдиноборств, а також виявлення перешкод упровадженню NQF в Україні.

In this work, we study graph partitioning problems associated with structural balance. These problems are known in the computer science literature as partition correlation problems: correlation clustering (CC) and a relaxed version (RCC). The solution of CC and RCC problems has been previously used in the literature as a tool for the evaluation of structural balance in a social network. The aim of this work is to apply the solution of these problems in the detection of corruption in public contracts. We describe integer linear programming formulations from the literature for these problems. We also discuss a probabilistic model for Structural balance and the solution of these problems applied to the detection of cases of corruption existing in public bids.<br>Em 1946, Heider desenvolveu a Teoria de Grafos de Sinais a fim de descrever as rela??es emocionais entre as pessoas pertencentes ao mesmo grupo social. Neste trabalho, estudamos problemas de particionamento de grafo associados com equil?brio estrutural, que na literatura de Ci?ncia da Computa??o s?o conhecidos como problemas de correla??o de parti??es ou, em ingl?s, correlation clustering (CC), al?m de uma vers?o relaxada (RCC). Abstract:

In the world of work, psychological instruments are often used for the purposes of selection and development (Van de Vijver & Rothmann, 2004). According to Van der Merwe (1999), psychological tests are commonly used to determine whether employees have the necessary skills for a specific job. However, much controversy still exists about the use of such instruments, particularly in the multicultural South African context, as not all psychometric tests accommodate individuals from different cultures and different socio-economic and educational backgrounds. The objective of this study was to assess the structural validity of the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQi) developed by Bar-On. The EQi measurement consist of 133 items and was completed by a total of 1 104 participants in the South African insurance sector drawn by means of convenient sampling. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed, from which only nine factor loadings resulted out of an anticipated fifteen. Overall, the factor loadings did not provide a good representation of the Bar-On theoretical model. In addition, a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test if the data fitted the Bar-On EQI theoretical model. O objetivo deste trabalho prende-se com a formulação da Estratégia de Marketing Digital do Departamento Ez-Desk: Escritórios Virtuais, através da análise e compilação de informação acerca do mercado de escritórios virtuais e do Departamento Ez-Desk, em particular, e na apresentação de sugestões para uma posterior concretização do Planeamento de Marketing Digital. Tendo verificado que não existia um Departamento de Marketing ou pessoa responsável por essa área e dada a importância das ferramentas digitais, considerei que seria oportuno desenvolver a Estratégia de Marketing Digital. As principais conclusões retiradas são que, embora não exista um Departamento e um Plano definido para a área do Marketing, verifica-se uma grande aposta na comunicação com os seus clientes, bem como uma preocupação em oferecer serviços de qualidade. No entanto, seria uma vantagem para a empresa a existência de um responsável por essa área, permitindo uma maior comunicação e aproximação ao cliente, bem como um aprofundamento do conhecimento das necessidades dos mesmos.

Structural Equation Modeling is a common name for the statistical analysis of Structural Equation Models. Structural Equation Models are models that specify relationships between a set of variables and can be specified by means of path diagrams. A number of Structural Equation Modeling programs have been developed. These include, amongst others, AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH. A number of studies have been published on the use of some of the applications mentioned above. They include, amongst others, Brown (1986), Waller (1993) and Kano (1997). Structural Equation Models are increasingly being used in the social, economic and behavioral sciences. More and more people are therefore making use of one or more of the Structural Equation Modeling applications on the market. This study is performed with the aim of using each of the Structural Equation Modeling applications AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH for the first time and document the experience, joy and the difficulties encountered while using them. This treatise is different from the comparisons already published in that it is based on the use of AMOS, EQS, LISREL, Mx, RAMONA and SEPATH to fit a Structural Equation Model for peer influences on ambition, which is specified for data obtained by Duncan, Haller and Portes (1971), by myself as a first time user of each of the programs mentioned. The impressive features as well as the difficulties encountered are listed for each application. Recommendations for possible improvements to the various applications are also proposed. Finally, recommendations for future studies on the use of Structural Equation Modeling programs are made.

Det är här vi har lagt vår betoning på EQ i skolan. I vår fallstudie observerade vi fyra elever i en integrerad klass, under tre veckor. Enkätundersökningen gjordes på en skola som har EQ på schemat för att se hur arbetet fungerar i praktiken. </p><p>Vår slutsats är att EQ verkligen behövs i skolan och även i vår vardag. Vi är inställda på och öppna för att arbeta med EQ i vårt framtida yrke, eftersom vi bara upplevt att allt med EQ är positivt. Vi kan vara mer eller mindre intelligenta, men det är de som har både hjärna och hjärta som blir stjärnor!</p>

<p>Syftet med arbetet har varit att få en fördjupad bild av vad begreppet EQ, emotionell intelligens handlar om. Följande två frågor har använts: Vad är EQ? Hur ser lärare på begreppet EQ och arbetet med barns sociala och emotionella utveckling? Litteraturgenomgången innehåller förutom de fem grundpelarna inom EQ, också en del allmänna tankar runt begreppet, samt hur skolans roll i barnens utveckling ser ut och vad Lpo-94 säger oss. Den senare delen av arbetet består av en sammanställning av fyra kvalitativa djupintervjuer gjorda med grundskollärare som arbetarmed EQ i skolan. Min slutsats är att arbetet med EQ bör genomsyra och ingå som en naturlig grundtanke i dagens skolarbete. Dagens samhälle har av olika anledningar bidragit till att läraryrket har kommit att omfatta nya sociala och emotionella dimensioner, och arbetet med EQ kan bidra till att lägga en stabil och trygg grund hos eleverna inför den framtid som väntar dem.</p>

Undersökningsdelens syfte är att ytterligare belysa mitt syfte med arbetet. Resultatet av examensarbetet är att EQ behöver få en mer central roll i undervisningen. Eleverna behöver arbeta med den sociala kompetensen kontinuerligt och strukturerat. Eleverna behöver en socialt fungerande miljö runt dem för att känna trygghet och harmoni. Nanophotonics is a booming field of research with the promise of chip-scale devices which harness the tremendous potency of light. In this regard, surface plasmons have shown great potential for confining and manipulating light at extreme sub-wavelength scales. Advances in fabrication technology have enabled the scientific community to realize metasurfaces with unconventional properties that push the limits of possible applications of light. This thesis is comprised of computational and experimental studies on plasmonic metasurfaces. The computational study presents efficient design principles for plasmonic half-wave plates using L-shaped nanoantennas. These principles can be used to design waveplates at an operating wavelength of choice and for specific application requirements. The impact of this study goes beyond the efficient design of waveplates: it provides useful insights into the Physics of L-shaped nanoantenna arrays which have been proposed as building blocks for plasmonic metasurfaces. The experimental work investigates the interaction of a plasmonic metasurface, composed of dipole antenna arrays, with an epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) material. This work thus forms a bridge between plasmonics and ENZ materials science, which is a rapidly advancing field in its own right. The first experimental study investigates the exciting unconventional response of plasmonic dipole antennas when placed on a thin indium tin oxide (ITO) film near its ENZ wavelength of 1417 nm. The antenna-on-ITO system has split resonances whose spectral positions are largely independent of the antenna dimensions. The resonance splitting occurs due to coupling between the antenna resonance and the ENZ mode of the ITO film. This coupling results in field intensity enhancements on the order of a 100 in the ITO film. The second experimental study demonstrates, using the z-scan method, that this large field enhancement in the antenna-on-ITO structure further enhances the already strong nonlinearity of ITO around its ENZ wavelength. In particular, the antenna-on-ITO structure exhibits an extremely large nonlinear absorption coefficient, which is two orders of magnitude larger than that of a bare ITO film, and three to five orders of magnitude larger than that of many other nonlinear materials. This thesis thus constitutes a beautiful blend of three thriving areas of research: plasmonics, ENZ materials science and nonlinear optics. The findings reported here have the potential to contribute to all of these fields, and thus have relevance to a broad spectrum of optical scientists.

Abstract:

This report details the study of a freshwater stream carrying high doses of heavy metals into an already affected fjord. The purpose is to find out how the measured levels of heavy metals vary across the industrial area, and if these levels are posing an environmental or health threat to the surroundings. According to the water directive of the European Union, all waters should be protected in order to reach ’good status’, and deterioration should be prevented. To keep track of the status of waters, environmental quality standards (limit values known as EQS) are used by Norwegian environmental authorities to indicate pollution levels. All measured contents in this report are therefore compared with EQS or similar limit values. New water samples were taken along the stream and in the soil and sediments during the spring of 2016. The measured levels were then compared with older water samples, and showed clear variations across the industrial area for most of the substances. For some substances, high levels of pollution were found in the soil, sediment and water. Despite this, most measured heavy metals pose no threat environmentally or health-wise due to the very alkaline water in the stream, likely to leave most metals nonbioavailable. Although the stream is heavily loaded with various heavy metals, its lack of finer matter prevents metals from binding to organic ligands, allowing the stream to become more of a transportation means than a place for accumulating metals in the soil and sediments.

Abstract:

Durante o inverno Austral entre os anos de 1989 e 2008 foram estudadas sobre a região Sudeste do Brasil as características sinóticas e estatísticas dos Eventos Quentes e Secos (EQS). A seleção destes eventos foi baseada na anomalia diária de temperatura do ar, umidade relativa e precipitação. Estes eventos sugerem a causa de desconfortos respiratórios à população que vive nesta região por consequência dos baixos valores de umidade relativa presente na atmosfera, além de déficit hídrico no solo devido à ausência de precipitação. Durante a atuação dos EQS os sistemas meteorológicos transientes que estão relacionados à ocorrência de precipitação e queda da temperatura do ar, são impedidos de progredir até a região estudada, o que favorece a elevação da temperatura do ar, decaindo ainda mais a umidade relativa. Esta dissertação abrangeu os aspectos estatísticos e sinóticos destes eventos. Do ponto de vista estatístico foram encontrados 26 EQS e as anomalias de temperatura do ar, anomalia de umidade relativa e anomalia de precipitação foram em média 3° C, -7 \% e -1 mm respectivamente. A frequência destes eventos foi aproximadamente 1(um) caso por ano com duração média de 7 dias. Em média o Índice de Severidade de EQS foi de 4,4 (adimensional) com desvio padrão de 2,9. A análise de variância mostrou um altíssimo grau de significância estatística entre as médias anômalas para o período dos EQS para a temperatura do ar, umidade relativa e precipitação. Foram identificados através de um índice de severidade os três eventos mais intensos e posteriormente foi feita uma análise sinótica destes EQS a fim de se compreender o mecanismo de formação e dissipação associado. O padrão descrito no campo de anomalia de altura de geopotencial em 500 hPa durante o período de atuação sugere a presença de um bloqueio do tipo ômega invertido para o evento II e um bloqueio do tipo dipolo para antes do evento III. A análise do modo dominante da primeira EOF para o campo de temperatura do ar durante os 26 eventos mostrou uma dominância de anomalias positivas sobre o centro oeste, sul e sudeste do Brasil, enquanto que o campo de umidade relativa mostrou um padrão contrário. Os dados utilizados nesta dissertação foram extraídos da reanálises Interim do ECMWF (European Center for Médium Range Forecast) na resolução de 1,5° x 1,5° latitude/longitude. Para a precipitação foram utilizados dados do CPC/NCEP (Climate Prediction Center/National Centers for Envoironmental Prediction) na resolução de 1° x 1° latitude/longitude. Os campos sinóticos utilizados para identificar e descrever as regiões anômalas das variáveis utilizadas foram também gerados a partir dessa reanálises.<br>During the Austral winter between the years 1989 and 2008 the synoptic features and statistics of Warm and Dry Events (EQS) on the Southeast region of Brazil were studied. These events are characterized by positive anomalies of air temperature, negative anomalies of relative humidity and lack of rainfall during the period of occurrence. The EQS suggest respiratory discomfort to the population by further aggravating the lack of moisture during the winter, besides contributing to the shortage of rain and sudden increase of fires. The synoptic study of these events can promote the operational meteorology since there are no studies on this subject over the southeastern region of Brazil. During the occurrence of EQS transient weather systems that are related to precipitation events and drop in air temperature are prevented from progressing until the study region, which favors the increase of air temperature, further decreasing the relative humidity. These events have three distinct phases: initial stage to say when the temperature increases, the maturation phase when the temperature rises and behaves almost constant and dissipation stage when the temperature decreases. This work covered the synoptic and statistical aspects of these events. From the statistical point of view found 26 EQS and anomalous air temperature, relative humidity anomaly and precipitation anomaly averaged 3 °C, -7\% to -1 mm respectively. The frequency of these events was approximately 1 (one) case per year with an average duration of 7 days over. On average the index of severity of EQS was 4.4 (dimensionless) with a deviation of 2.9. The variance analysis showed a high degree of significant between the averages for the period of anomalous EQS for the air temperature, relative humidity and precipitation. They were identified by an index of severity of the three most intense cases of EQS and were later made a synoptic analysis of these events in order to understand the mechanism of formation, maturation and dissipation associated. The pattern described in the field of anomaly of geopotential height at 500 hPa during the period of activity suggests the presence ofa block inverted omega II for the event and an amplified ridge-type lock for the case III. The dominant mode of EOF to the field of air temperature during the 26 events showed a dominance of positive anomalies over the Midwest, South and Southeast Brazil, while the field of relative humidity showed an opposite pattern. The air temperature data at the level of 1000 hPa, relative humidity at 1000 hPa, mean sea level pressure, wind at 925 hPa, 500 hPa and 200 hPa geopotential height at 500 hPa and precipitable water used were from Interim reanalysis of the ECMWF (European Center for Medium Range Forecast) with resolution of 1.5 ° x 1.5 ° latitude / longitude. For the precipitation data were used CPC / NCEP (Climate Prediction Center / National Centers for Envoironmental Prediction) in the resolution of 1 x 1 ° latitude / longitude. The synoptic fields used to identify and describe the phenomenon were generated from the ECMWF Interim reanalysis.

Erwinia chrysanthemi est une enterobacterie phytopathogene. Son pouvoir est du essentiellement a la production d'enzymes extracellulaires telles que les pectinases, cellulases et proteases. Les enzymes portant une sequence signal, pectinases et cellulases, sont secretees par la voie generale de secretion (gsp), appelee out. Un des modeles d'etudes consiste en une interaction specifique entre les proteines secretees et les composants de la machinerie de secretion, impliquant l'existence d'un signal de secretion porte par les proteines secretees. Notre etude a ete focalisee sur l'etude de la secretion de la cellulase egz. La proteine egz est constituee de deux domaines fonctionnellement independant: un domaine catalytique et une domaine de fixation a la cellulose (cbd), relies par une region charniere. Les etudes menees dans notre laboratoire ont montre qu'il n'existait pas de signal de secretion relie a un de ces domaines, laissant supposer que ce signal serait de type conformationnel. Ceci nous a conduit a rechercher, dans chacun des domaines, les contraintes structurales liees a la secretabilite de la proteine egz. Dans le cbd, nous avons mis en evidence la formation d'un pont disulfure. L'elimination de cet element de structure tertiaire conduit a une proteine fonctionnelle, mais qui reste accumulee dans le periplasme. Les resultats obtenus montrent que le pont disulfure est forme dans le periplasme avant que la proteine egz ne traverse la membrane externe et qu'il est necessaire pour que la proteine puisse interagir avec la machinerie out, suggerant que seule la conformation sauvage de la proteine est compatible avec la secretabilite. Dans le domaine catalytique, nous avons tout d'abord recherche des positions qui seraient impliquees dans la structuration de ce domaine, en utilisant l'approche des arnt suppresseurs de codon non sens. La reconstitution de la machinerie out de e. Chrysanthemi dans des souches de e. Coli portant des arnt suppresseurs, nous a permis d'identifier des mutants dont la conformation est differente celle de la proteine sauvage et qui sont pourtant secretes comme la proteine sauvage. Ces resultats nous ont permis de montrer qu'une conformation differente de la proteine sauvage peut etre reconnue par la machinerie out

Abstract:

Sviluppare applicazioni grafiche al passo con la tecnologia odierna è finalmente possibile grazie alle Vulkan. Queste nuove API permettono un controllo della scheda video più diretto e ottimizzato, scalano meglio negli elaboratori multi-core e migliorano la comunicazione fra CPU e GPU. A discapito di queste caratteristiche c'è un'importante mole di informazioni e strutture dati che gli sviluppatori devono imparare a gestire, molte delle quali API precedenti come le OpenGL processavano sottobanco, e la curva di apprendimento può risultare per molti scoraggiante. Per ovviare questo aspetto la libreria V-EZ si pone come middleware di sviluppo. Fa uso degli oggetti principali di Vulkan ma al contempo riduce il carico di lavoro nascondendo allo sviluppatore gli aspetti più gravosi. Viene prima descritta la struttura di un’applicazione Vulkan generica e gli step necessari per un’inizializzazione basilare. Si introduce quindi la libreria V-EZ, confrontando gli aspetti cardini delle Vulkan e come vengono gestiti in modo semplificato. Per verificarne la bontà viene poi esposta la teoria del Physically Based Rendering, un insieme di metodi e concetti per la realizzazione di scene tridimensionali realistiche sulla base di formule fisiche, su cui viene fatta un’analisi di sviluppo utilizzando la libreria V-EZ. Il risultato è la realizzazione di un’applicazione con una difficoltà di sviluppo più bassa ma traendo comunque vantaggio delle caratteristiche di un API moderna a basso livello con un peggioramento delle prestazioni totalmente trascurabile.

Abstract:

Aim: The purpose of the study is to explore within a case-study design if training with the EZ Run Belt in an ecological setting changes running kinematics and if it affects running economy. Methodology: A case study design has been chosen to answer the aim of this study. Four subjects (two men, two women) with different running background were recruited for this case study, but only two subjects completed the study. Subjects visited LIVI test laboratory on two different test sessions. The study design consisted of one pre-test followed by a 4-week training intervention and a post-test and it was administered as a case study. The training intervention was conducted in an ecological setting with no interference from the researcher. The study consisted of an economy test and a kinematic test. The subjects ran the test on a treadmill at two different self-selected submaximal paces (6 min each). Submaximal running economy was defined by the average VO2 (l ∙min-1, ml∙kg-1∙min-1) recorded over the last minute of each 6-min bout. Running kinematics was analyzed from video footage with the video analysis software Kinovea. Results: Both subjects eliminated heel-strike, increased step frequency, shortened stride length while the energy cost increased. Conclusions: The EZ Run Belt could be a good tool for heel-strikers as it eliminated heel-strike and helped with changing the stride into a more forefoot strike in the two case studies presented.
