Abstract:
The paper deals with the analysis of mechanical properties of welded joints made of AW 2099 aluminium-lithium alloy by electron beam welding. The thickness of the experimental material was 3±0.2 mm. PZ EZ 30 STU electron beam welding machine was used for production of welds. Maximum accelerating voltage used within this study was 55 kV. Metallographic analysis, hardness measurement test and static tensile were carried out. The structure of the weld joint of aluminium-lithium alloy was investigated. Produced welded joints were characterized by the presence of following zones: heat affected zone (HAZ), equiaxed non-dendritic zone (EQZ), columnar dendritic zone (CDZ) and equiaxed dendritic zone (EDZ). EQZ grains were formed due to heterogeneous nucleation on precipitates at the fusion boundary. EQZ is typical for joining of aluminium lithium alloys.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A comprehensive theoretical investigation of the C3H2O potential energy surface (PES) was conducted, revealing 30 equilibrium structures (EQs), 128 transition state structures (TSs), and 35 direct dissociation channels (DCs), establishing a global reaction network comprising 101 isomerization pathways and dissociation channels. Particular focus was placed on the five most stable isomers, H2CCCO (EQ3), OC(H)CCH (EQ7), H-c-CC(O)C-H (EQ0), HCC(H)CO (EQ1), and HO-c-CCC-H (EQ12), and their reactions with water molecules. Multicomponent artificial force-induced reaction (MC-AFIR) calculations were employed to study bimolecular collisions between H2O and these stable isomers. The product distributions revealed isomer-specific reactivity patterns: EQ3 and EQ7 predominantly formed neutral species at high collision energies, EQ0 produced both ionic and neutral species, while EQ1 and EQ12 exhibited more accessible reaction pathways at lower collision energies with a propensity for spontaneous isomerization. Born–Oppenheimer Molecular Dynamics (BOMD) simulations complemented these findings, suggesting several viable products emerge from reactions with water molecules, including HCCC(OH)2H (EQ7 + H2O), OCCHCH2OH (EQ1 + H2O), and HO-c-CC(H)C(OH)-H (EQ12 + H2O). This investigation elucidates the intrinsic relationships between isomers and their potential products, formed through biomolecular collisions with water molecules, establishing a fundamental framework for future conformational and reactivity studies of the C3H2O family.

Abstract:
This study investigates the effects of heat transfer and molten pool flow behavior on the final structure of laser filler wire welds, aiming to improve weld quality. Laser filler wire welding experiments and numerical simulations were performed on 2195 Al-Li alloy workpieces with varying welding parameters. Numerical simulation of the heat transfer and flow in the molten pool was carried out using the CFD method, and the moving filler wire was introduced from the computational boundary by secondary development. Simulation results indicated that reducing welding speed and increasing wire feeding rate enhanced the cooling rate of the weld. Additionally, energy absorbed by the filler wire contributed between 6% and 16% of the total energy input during the liquid bridge transition. Comparing experimental and simulation data revealed that the cooling rate significantly affected the weld’s micro-structure and hardness. Notably, the formation of the equiaxed grain zone (EQZ) was crucial for weld performance. Excessive cooling rates hindered EQZ formation, reducing flow in this critical region. These findings offer valuable insights for optimizing welding parameters to enhance weld quality and performance.

Abstract:
The weld joints of sprayed 2195-T6 and cast 2195-T8 aluminium–lithium alloy were created using tungsten inert gas with filler wire. The microstructures and mechanical properties of the weld joints were examined. The results of the microstructure analysis showed that the width of the equiaxed grain zone (EQZ) and the amount of the second phase θ’(Al2Cu) was greater in the weld joint of the cast 2195-T8 Al–Li alloy than that of the sprayed 2195-T6 Al–Li alloy. Tensile testing indicated that failures occurred in the EQZ and partially melted zone (PMZ) for both weld joints. The tensile strength and elongation of the weld joints of the sprayed 2195-T6 and cast 2195-T8 Al–Li alloys were about 68.2%, 89.7%, and 50.7% and 28.3% those of the base metal in the joint, respectively. The cast 2195-T8 Al–Li alloy joint had more pores and cracks, resulting in lower tensile strength and elongation than those in the sprayed alloy. Further, the tensile fracture surface morphology indicated that the fracture mode of the sprayed 2195-T6 Al–Li alloy was a mixed fracture mode dominated by plastic fracture and that of the cast 2195-T8 Al–Li alloy joints was a mixed fracture mode dominated by brittle fracture.

Abstract:
This work provides a comprehensive investigation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) inducement in weldment and their apparent effect on the microstructure, %elongation and ultimate fracture behavior of Al-Mg-Si alloy referring modified tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding joints. Serious experimental work is carried out at 1 wt%, 1.5 wt%, and 2 wt% of MWCNTs to provide a gradually increasing heterogeneous nucleation. The behavior of grain morphology showed the pure field of epitaxial growth without MWCNTs, and the forestry type morphology for 1 wt% MWCNTs at low welding currents (160 A), though there was a noticeable conversion into equiaxed (EQZ) grains filled with inter-dendritic particles at high welding currents (180 A and 200 A) for 1.5 wt% and 2 wt% of MWCNTs. Moreover, the formation of a cellular type network above the fusion line predominated initially at all parameters. Conversely, fine EQZ grains were formed as they moved upward into the welded zone (WZ) explicitly at a high heat input. A conceptual pictorial model is presented in the study which summarized the behavior of morphological changes at the utilized parameters. The welded joints have demonstrated an increasing trend of strength and %elongation in contrast to joints without added MWCNTs. Comparative results have shown an exceptional increment of 71 to 76% and 67 to 75% of elongation up to ultimate tensile strength (UTS), and a fracture point that was clinched for 1 wt% and 1.5 wt% MWCNTs at 180A. From macro to micro-examination of the fracture surfaces, pure ductile modes constituting elliptical cup and cone type isotropic flow was evident in all specimens. Detailed confirmation of the pull-out fracture mode of MWCNTs has highlighted in the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images that intimated a methodical contribution in load-transfer from matrix to the fiber under axial load. Overall, a concise en-route for MWCNTs inducement is well-appointed through tube fillers along with an activating facilitator (TiO2) in contrast to stereotype fillers for improved behavior termed as modified TIG welding joint process in study.

"255 EFFECT OF THE TYPE OF DIETARY FATTY ACID (α-LINOLENIC ACID OR LINOLEIC ACID) ON THE NUMBER AND THE QUALITY OF OOCYTES COLLECTED BY OVUM PICKUP AND ON IN VITRO EMBRYO PRODUCTION BY DAIRY HEIFERS". Reproduction, Fertility and Development 19, № 1 (2007): 244. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/rdv19n1ab255.

Abstract:
A supplement of dietary fat can improve oocyte quality in ruminants. However, to our knowledge, the effect of the type dietary fat (differing in fatty acid profile) on oocyte and embryo production has never been reported in cattle. Therefore, in this study the effect of the type of fat supplement on the number and quality of oocytes collected by ovum pickup (OPU) and on the production of embryos was investigated in Holstein heifers. The experiment was conducted over 2 years: year 1: 8 heifers, and year 2: 10 heifers (16 to 20 months old, body weight 368 8.2 kg and BCS 2.3 0.1). Heifers were given a diet of hay (67% DM) and a concentrate (33% DM). The concentrate (130 g fat/kg DM) was formulated with either extruded linseeds (L, rich in α-linolenic acid (ω-3 fatty acid),n = 9) or extruded soybeans (S, rich in linoleic acid (ω-6 fatty acid), n = 9). Oocytes were collected by OPU for 6 weeks (2 sessions/week) and their morphological quality was assessed (Q1, excellent; Q2, good; Q3, fair; and Q4, low). The oocytes from one session/week were frozen and those from the other session were used to produce embryos (in vitro maturation and fertilization). Embryo quality was judged following IETS criteria (EQ1, excellent; EQ2, good; EQ3, fair; and EQ4, low). Blood samples were collected weekly throughout the experiment for the analysis of insulin, insulin-like growth factor-1, glucose, non-esterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate, and urea. Statistical analysis was performed on the growth rate, BCS, hormone, metabolite, and fatty acid data and on the oocyte and embryo data using Split plot ANOVA. Growth rate was not affected by diet (S, 0.93 0.21 kg d-1 vs. L, 0.90 0.21 kg d-1), and there was no effect of dietary treatment on plasma hormone and metabolite concentrations. However, treatment L increased the proportion of α-linolenic acid (P < 0.0001), and treatment S increased the proportion of linoleic acid (P < 0.0001) in the plasma. Neither the oocyte characteristics (number of oocytes collected, 5.3 1.0 vs. 5.7 1.0; their quality: Q1, 1.1 0.3 vs. 1.0 0.3; Q2, 1.8 0.3 vs. 1.6 0.3; Q3, 1.4 0.4 vs. 2.1 0.4; and Q4, 1.0 0.2 vs. 1.1 0.2; and oocytes inseminated, 4.4 0.8 vs. 5.1 0.8, and cleaved, 3.4 0.7 vs. 3.5 0.7 per heifer per session; L vs. S, respectively) nor the embryo characteristics (number of embryos, 1.1 0.3 vs. 0.9 0.3; their quality: EQ1, 0.4 0.1 vs. 0.3 0.1; EQ2, 0.4 0.1 vs. 0.3 0.1; EQ3, 0.2 0.1 vs. 0.3 0.1; and EQ4, 0.04 0.03 vs. 0.05 0.03 per heifer per session; L vs. S, respectively) were affected by dietary treatment. In conclusion, under our experimental conditions, the type of fatty acid (ω-3 vs. ω-6) does not modify significantly the numbers of oocytes and embryos produced by OPU and their quality in dairy eifers.

Abstract:
Equiform geometry is considered an extension of other geometries. Furthermore, an equiform frame is a generalization of the Frenet frame. In this study, we begin by defining the term “equiform parameter (EQP)”, “equiform frame”, and “equiform formulas (EQF)” in regard to the Minkowski three-space. Second, we define spacelike normal curves (SPN) in Minkowski three-space and present a variety of descriptions of these curves with equiform spacelike (EQS) or equiform timelike (EQN) principal normals in Minkowski three-space. Third, we discuss the implications of these findings. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our theoretical results.

Abstract:
EN AW2099 aluminium lithium alloy, 2.0mm in thickness, was used as an experimental material. EN AW2099 belongs to the 3rd generation of aluminium lithium alloys. The third generation was developed to improve the disadvantages of the previous generation, such as anisotropy in mechanical properties, low fracture toughness, corrosion resistance and resistance to fatigue crack growth, as well. Aluminium magnesium 5087 filler wire with a diameter of 1.2mm was used for the welding. Crack free weld joints were produced after an optimization of welding parameters. The microstructure of weld metal and mechanical properties of weld joints were investigated. Equiaxed zone (EQZ) was observed at the fusion boundary. The character of grains changed in the direction towards the weld centre, from the columnar dendrite zone to equiaxed dendrite zone in the weld centre. The microstructure of the weld metal matrix consisted of -aluminium. Alloying elements enrichment was found at the inter-dendritic areas, namely copper and magnesium. The microhardness decrease in the weld metal due to a dissolution of strengthening precipitates was measured. The microhardness was slightly higher in comparison to a weld produced by a laser welding without a filler material. The tensile strength of the weld joint reached around 67% of the base material’s strength and the fracture occurred in the weld metal.

Abstract:
<p>Separating kits and mother to determine milk yield at 4th wk of lactation (MY4) could have negative consequences on the training and development of young rabbits. In this work, a total of 313 lactation curves (28 d long), taken from 2 different trials, were used to fit regression models to estimate MY4. In both trials, females were subjected to a semi-intensive reproductive rhythm [insemination at 11 d post-partum (dpp) and weaning at 28 dpp], but diets, genetic types, parity order and day of controls were slightly different. The models included variables which, according to the bibliography, are related to milk yield and are often recorded in joint management (without separation of litters rom mothers), such as litter size at weaning (LSW; both linear and quadratic), joint energy intake of doe plus litter at 4th wk of lactation (JEI; both linear and quadratic), perirenal fat thickness change (ΔPFTd) and milk yield at 3rd wk (MY3). The overlapping degree (OL) between current lactation and next pregnancy was included as a dummy variable, as well as their interactions with quantitative traits. To fit these models, 3 procedures were proposed to obtain accurate equations with biological meaning: Eq1, multiple linear regression (MLR) of data; Eq2, MLR with previous smoothing of sample distribution; and Eq3, MLR with previous smoothing and avoiding redundant samples and collinearities among variables. MY3 had a positive and relevant linear effect on MY4 for the 3 equations obtained (responsible for 39 to 50% of MY4 prediction). JEI had also a relevant role in MY4 prediction (28 to 61%), its positive effect being linear on Eq1, quadratic on Eq2 and both linear and quadratic on Eq3. ΔPFTd and LSW related traits were only included in Eq3, with a low relative weight, and OL inclusion did not improve prediction in any equation. Predicting MY4 was possible with the variables used, although certain precautions must be taken. Traditional MLR seems to predict central values properly, but extreme values poorly, whereas pre-treatment of data to smooth the dependent variable distribution appears to improve prediction of extreme values.</p>

Abstract:
Diabetes mellitus is a dominant metabolic condition noticeable by determined high blood sugar levels, stanching from either poor insulin production or insulin resistance. Managing diabetes often includes hindering enzymes, such as alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase to control blood glucose points after meals. Natural polyphenols, such as quercetin, have proved major enzyme inhibitory activity, leading to developing interest in reviewing quercetin derivatives as prospective antidiabetic agents. This research emphasizes on the design, synthesis, and assessment of quercetin ester derivatives for their antidiabetic activity by means of in silico docking studies. The key area is to investigate the binding affinity of these derivatives to indispensable enzymes involved in carbohydrate metabolism, while also assessing their drug-likeness and toxicity features. Quercetin ester derivatives, EQ1 and EQ3, were produced through esterification reactions. Quercetin was reacted with benzoic acid and gallic acid, in that order, in toluene, using hydrochloric acid as a catalyst under reflux settings. To calculate the binding affinities, in silico docking studies were supported with human pancreatic alpha-amylase (PDB ID: 2QV4) and acid alpha-glucosidase (PDB ID: 5NN8). Drug-likeness was explored according to Lipinski Rule of Five, and toxicity was projected by computational modeling procedures. Docking studies showed that EQ1 and EQ3 had concrete binding affinities for alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase, exceeding the standard drug acarbose. EQ1 attained the highest docking score, with essential interactions such as hydrogen bonding and pi-pi stacking. Drug-likeness evaluation revealed no major rule violations, indicating favorable oral bioavailability for both compounds. Furthermore, toxicity predictions confirmed that EQ1 and EQ3 are non-toxic, underscoring their potential safety. The synthesized quercetin derivatives, EQ1 and EQ3, exhibit considerable promise as antidiabetic agents by inhibiting key enzymes. Their strong binding affinities, favorable drug-likeness characteristics, and non-toxic profiles highlight their potential for further biological studies to validate their effectiveness and therapeutic value in diabetes management.. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction It has been suggested that visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is associated with several non-communicable chronic diseases, but measuring it is difficult. Thus, anthropometry could be used because is easily applied in clinical practice. Objectives The present study aimed to develop and validate VAT estimation equations (Eq) in military men. Methods The sample consisted of 409 (mean age, 36.5 ± 6.7 years) military men in the Brazilian Army (BA) divided into an equation group (EG) ( n = 270; mean age, 37.0 ± 6.3 years) and a validation group (VG) ( n =139; mean age, 36.0 ± 7.2 years). Anthropometric, hemodynamic and DXA body composition evaluations ( GE iLunar ) were performed. The Student’s t test, Pearson’s correlation, and stepwise general linear regression were applied. Bland-Altman graphics were used to assess the concordance between VAT by Eq and by DXA. The level of significance was 95% ( p < 0.05). Results Age, waist circumference (WC), hip circumference and body mass index presented the main significant positive correlations with the VAT-DXA. Four Eq were created Eq1 ( r 2 = 0.793), Eq2 ( r 2 = 0.810), Eq3 ( r 2 = 0.817), and Eq 4 ( r 2 = 0.823) ( p < 0.05). No differences were observed between VAT by DXA and VAT by Eq ( p = 0.982, p = 0.970, p = 0.495 and p = 0.698). Bland-Altman analysis also presented good concordance as the bias was close to zero and was not statistically significant. Conclusion Eq2 (age*13.0 + WC*60.0 - 4975,.5) was more suitable because it is easier to apply, has a higher predictive power (81.0%), less bias (1.86) and validation yielded average VAT values close to those found in DXA. It may still be considered a valuable tool for other extensive epidemiological studies in military men in the BA and can be used in adult men. Evidence Level I: Development of diagnostic criteria on consecutive patients (with universally applied reference ‘‘gold’’ standard).

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe 9-epimers of quinine (QN) and quinidine (QD) are known to exhibit poor cytostatic potency againstP. falciparum(Karle JM, Karle IL, Gerena L, Milhous WK, Antimicrob. Agents Chemother. 36:1538–1544, 1992). We synthesized 9-epi-QN (eQN) and 9-epi-QD (eQD) via Mitsunobu esterification-saponification and evaluated both cytostatic and cytocidal antimalarial activities. Relative to the cytostatic activity of QN and QD, we observed a large decrease in cytostatic activity (higher 50% inhibitory concentration [IC50s]) against QN-sensitive strain HB3, QN-resistant strain Dd2, and QN-hypersensitive strain K76I, consistent with previous work. However, we observed relatively small changes in cytocidal activity (the 50% lethal dose), similar to observations with chloroquine (CQ) analogues with a wide range of IC50s (see the accompanying paper [A. P. Gorka, J. N. Alumasa, K. S. Sherlach, L. M. Jacobs, K. B. Nickley, J. P. Brower, A. C. de Dios, and P. D. Roepe, Antimicrob. Agents Chemother. 57:356–364, 2013]). Compared to QN and QD, the 9-epimers had significantly reduced hemozoin inhibition efficiency and did not affect pH-dependent aggregation of ferriprotoporphyrin IX (FPIX) heme. Magnetic susceptibility measurements showed that the 9-epimers perturb FPIX monomer-dimer equilibrium in favor of monomer, and UV-visible (VIS) titrations showed that eQN and eQD bind monomer with similar affinity relative to QN and QD. However, unique ring proton shifts in the presence of zinc(II) protoporphyrin IX (ZnPIX) indicate that binding of the 9-epimers to monomeric heme is via a distinct geometry. We isolated eQN- and eQD-FPIX complexes formed under aqueous conditions and analyzed them by mass, fluorescence, and UV-VIS spectroscopies. The 9-epimers produced low-fluorescent adducts with a 2:1 stoichiometry (drug to FPIX) which did not survive electrospray ionization, in contrast to QN and QD complexes. The data offer important insight into the relevance of heme interactions as a drug target for cytostatic versus cytocidal dosages of quinoline antimalarial drugs and further elucidate a surprising structural diversity of quinoline antimalarial drug-heme complexes.

Abstract:
Abstract Long-period body-wave data recorded at teleseismic distances and strong-motion data at Pasadena for the Superstition Hills earthquakes of 24 November 1987 are modeled to obtain the source parameters. We will refer to the event that occurred at 0153 UT as EQ1 and the event at 1316 UT as EQ2. At all distances the first earthquake appears to be a simple left-lateral strike-slip event on a fault striking NE. It is a relatively deep event with a source depth of 10 km. It has a teleseismic moment of 2.7 ×1025 dyne cm. The second and more complex event was modeled in two ways: by using EQ1 as the Green's function and by using a more traditional forward modeling technique to create synthetic seismograms. The first method indicated that EQ2 was a double event with both subevents similar, but not identical to EQ1 and separated by about 7.5 sec. From the synthetic seismogram study we obtained a strike of 305° for the first subevent and 320° for the second. Both have dips of 80° and rakes of 175°. The first subevent has a moment of 3.6 ×1025 which is half that of the second. We obtain depths of at least 6 km. The teleseismic data indicate a preferred subevent separation of 30 km with the second almost due south of the first, but the error bounds are substantial. This would suggest that the subevents occurred on conjugate faults. The strong-motion data at PAS, however, imply a much smaller source separation, with the sources probably produced by asperities.

AbstractThis article deals with the concept of the Exclusive Fishery Zone (EFZ) which has long existed in the state practice in the law of the sea. It describes the genesis and development of the concept, attempts by coastal states to gain extensive and exclusive control over fishery resources beyond the territorial sea, and the influence of international conferences and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on EFZs. The main aim of this article is to examine current claims to EFZs, describe the legal nature of contemporary EFZs and analyse the motivation of coastal states for still claiming an EFZ and not an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which is a multi-functional zone that includes not only exclusive fishing rights of the coastal state but also other rights, jurisdiction and economic activities.

Abstract:
The Environmental Quality Objective/Environmental Quality Standard approach to controlling pollution of Britain's well mixed and highly dispersive coastal waters has been adopted by Government. The task of the regulatory authority in relating discharge conditions to the capacity of the receiving waters is theoretically a logical sequence of scientific calculations. In practice a whole range of influences is brought to bear on the decision-making process. This paper describes how the Clyde River Purification Board and a major chemical manufacturing company (ICI) arrived at consent conditions for the discharge of an effluent containing copper to Irvine Bay, in the Firth of Clyde, an area of major importance as a fishery. The technical arguments advanced during negotiations are detailed and the areas of major disagreement such as the definition of a mixing zone are discussed. Account is taken of the uses to which the Bay is put and the effect of other discharges on background levels. Measures taken to ensure demonstrable compliance with the agreed consent conditions are described as are biological monitoring methods under development to assess the long term acceptability of the discharge.

Abstract:
Clarifying the trade-offs/synergies of ecosystem services is crucial for achieving a win-win situation in economic development and ecological conservation. Past studies have lacked research on ecosystem service functional management zones that integrate socio-economic factors and ecological conservation, particularly based on predictive scenarios. Based on the above, this study innovatively established a multi scenario simulation model and framework (EST-EMZ) for the study of ecosystem service (ES) trade-off/synergy and ecological management zoning, combining remote sensing and socio-economic data from 2000 to 2020 in the Chang-Zhu-Tan Metropolitan Area (CZTMA). The model evaluates the dynamic trade-offs/synergies among different ecosystem services under various scenarios, aiming to seek the optimal management approach for enhancing the functionality and optimizing the structure of ESs in the future of the CZTMA. The results indicate the following: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the Ecosystem Service Value (ESV) of the CZTMA gradually declined from 601.57 billion yuan to 584.65 billion yuan. Under the three future scenarios, the ESV also decreased, with the Ecological Conservation Scenario (ECS) experiencing the most minor decline, and the Economic Priority Scenario (EPS) witnessing the most substantial decrease. (2) In the historical period and the 2030 predicted scenarios, there is a predominant synergy among paired ESs in the CZTMA. Throughout the study period, the region’s dominant ecosystem service bundle (ESB) is the high-service ecological regulation bundle, primarily located in the northeastern, western, and southern areas dominated by forests. (3) Based on ESV and urbanization intensity (UI), five different ecosystem management zones were identified: water balance zone (WBZ), coordinated improvement zone (CIZ), ecologically weak zone (EWZ), ecological conservation zone (ECZ), and ecological derivative zone (EDZ). Corresponding management and protection strategies for ecosystem services were proposed. The research findings offer potential solutions for optimizing land use and managing the trade-offs of ESs in metropolitan areas.

Abstract:
The Butterfly Optimization Algorithm (BOA) is a swarm based technique, inspired from mating and food searching process of butterflies, developed in last year. Experiments indicate that BOA provides substantial exploration capability on conventional non-constrained benchmark problems, however for the cases with more complex and noisy domains the algorithm can easily be trapped into local minima due to its restricted exploitation behavior. To tackle this issue, current study deals with introducing an alternative search strategy to explore the region of the search domain with high certainty. Such that, firstly a weighted agent is defined and then a quadratic search is performed in the vicinity of this pre-defined agent. This alternative search strategy is named as Enhanced Quadratic Approximation (EQA) and it is combined with BOA method to improve its exploitation behavior and provide an efficient search algorithm. Thus, obtained new method is named as Enhanced Quadratic Approximation Integrated with Butterfly Optimization (EQB) algorithm. Different properties of proposed EQB are tested on mathematical and structural benchmark problems. Acquired results show that the introduced algorithm, in comparison with its parent method and some other well-stablished reported algorithms in the literature, provides a competitive performance in terms of stability, accuracy and convergence rate.

Abstract:
Timely and reliable laboratory diagnostics is a necessity for patient safety and good patient management. Success in external quality assessment (EQA) reflects on the everyday work in a clinical laboratory. This study evaluated the reliability of serological point-of-care (POC) testing for the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) that causes infectious mononucleosis (IM). Data from the results of 95 external quality control (EQC) samples, altogether 18 885 results during an eight-year period (2010-2017) were collected from 273 Finnish testing sites. Diagnosing acute infectious mononucleosis (EBV IM) is based on clinical, haematological and serological findings. Heterophile antibody tests are used for this purpose because they can be carried out at POC and are cheap and robust to perform. In this study, the data showed that the testing sites used 3 test methods and 17 different test kits; of the kits, 4 were used during the whole study period. The most commonly used test methods were immunochromatographic assays (12 test kits, 17 959 EQC results). Latex agglutination (4 test kits, 504 results) and immunofiltration test methods (one kit, 422 results) were also used. The overall success rate was 99.3% (for positive samples 99.6%, for negative samples 99.1%). The success rates of the different test methods varied from 94.3% for the immunofiltration method to 99.6% for the latex agglutination method. The lowest success rates were found for negative samples: 82.0% (QuickVue, Quidel [immunochromatographic method]), 91.3% (RDT EBV IgM Assay, Bio-Rad [immunofiltration method]). The results of the negative samples that represented old EBV immunity were the most difficult to interpret with a success rate of 98.9% compared to success rates of clearly positive (99.6%) and negative (99.5%) samples ( P &lt; .001). Especially the immunofiltration method (RDT EBV IgM Assay) produced 13.7% false positive results for samples of old immunity. The data showed that 42 of the studied 95 EBV IM EQA rounds were reported as expected (true positive or true negative) by all testing sites.

Abstract:
Abstract Dietary enzyme supplementation may enhance the digestibility and utilization of non-starch components of the diet by pigs. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a multi-carbohydrase enzyme (ENZ) in growing pigs for apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of amino acids (AA), apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients and energy values in a corn distillers dried grains with solubles (cDDGS)-based diet. A total of 12 ileal-cannulated pigs [initial body weight (BW) = 31.7 kg ± 3.04] were housed in individual metabolic crates for 21 days (Period 1) and subsequently transferred to individual floor pens for additional 28 days (Period 2). These animals were assigned to 2 diets (n = 6) in a completely randomized design (CRD). The diets were formulated on corn, soybean meal and cDDGS (30%) without (CON) or with ENZ supplementation. The ENZ (Proprietary xylanase/cellulase product, Kerry Inc.) was included in the diets at 200 g/tonne. Feeds were formulated to 1.15% SID lysine and met or exceeded nutrient requirements for growing pigs (NRC, 2012). Pigs were fed diets at three times maintenance energy requirement based on BW, which was assessed at every 2 weeks intervals throughout the study, Titanium dioxide was added to the diets as an indigestible marker. In period 1, pigs had 14 d of adaptation, followed by 4 d fecal and urine using the total collection method and 2 d ileal digesta collection. In period 2, pigs had 23 days adaptation, followed by 2 d fecal collection and 2 d illeal digesta collection. The AID of AA and gross energy (GE) and ATTD of nutrients and GE were calculated by an index method. Data were analyzed as a CRD, using pig as the experimental unit and enzyme supplementation as the main effect. Overall, average daily gain and gain:feed ratio of pigs were 857 and 918 g/d and 0.52 and 0.54 for CON and ENZ, respectively (P &amp;gt; 0.05). In period 1, ENZ supplementation improved (P &amp;lt; 0.05) the ATTD of dry matter (DM), ash, organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and GE by 4.4%, 26.8%, 2.8%, 11.3%, and 3.6%, respectively. Also, ENZ tended to improve (P &amp;lt; 0.10) the ATTD of crude protein (CP) by 7.4% and AID of threonine, CP, and GE by 6.6%, 7.6%, and 13.7%, respectively. In period 2, ENZ improved (P &amp;lt; 0.05) the ATTD of DM, ash, OM, CP, NDF, and GE by 5%, 30.1%, 3.4%, 4.1%, 19.6%, and 4.2%, respectively. similarly, EMZ improved (P &amp;lt; 0.05) the AID of threonine, CP, and GE by 4.2%, 6.0%, and 6.4%, respectively. In conclusion, multi-carbohydrase supplementation in a corn-SBM diet with 30% cDDGS increased the digestibility of nutrients and energy in growing pigs and may represent a useful strategy to optimize the utilization of such raw material.

The minimum cardinality of an equitable dominating set of G of type 1 (type 2) is called the 1-equitable (2-equitable) domination number of G and is denoted by γ eq1 (G)(γ eq2 (G)). If D is an equitable dominating set of type 1 and type 2, then D is called an equitable dominating set and the equitable domination number of G is defined to be the minimum cardinality of an equitable dominating set and is denoted by γ eq (G). In this paper we initiate a study of these parameters.

Abstract:
Background: The recently developed antiandrogen, Enzalutamide (Enz), has reformed the standard of care for castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) patients. However, Enz-resistance inevitably emerges despite success of Enz in prolonging CRPC patients’ survival. Here we found that Enz-resistant prostate cancer (PCa) cells had higher BCL2 expression. We aimed to test whether targeting BCL2 would influence Enz sensitivity of prostate cancer (PCa) and identify the potential mechanism. Methods: The study was designed to target Enz-induced BCL2 with inhibitor ABT263 and test Enz sensitivity in Enz-resistant PCa cells by MTT assay. Cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were detected with dihydroethidium staining, and in vitro deubiquitinating enzyme activity assay was used to evaluate ubiquitin specific protease 26 (USP26) activity. Results: ABT263 could increase Enz sensitivity in both Enz-sensitive and Enz-resistant PCa cells via inducing ROS generation. Elevated cellular ROS levels might then inhibit USP26 activity to increase the ubiquitination of androgen receptor (AR) and AR splice variant 7 (ARv7) and their ubiquitin/proteasome-dependent degradation, which contributed to the increase of Enz sensitivity. In vivo mouse model also demonstrates that ABT263 will suppress the PCa progression. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that targeting Enz-induced BCL2 with inhibitor ABT263 could increase Enz sensitivity in both Enz-sensitive and Enz-resistant PCa cells through induction of cellular ROS levels and suppression of USP26 activity with a consequent increase of ubiquitin/proteasome-dependent degradation of AR and ARv7 protein expression.

Abstract:
Single-junction solar cells are the most available in the market and the most simple in terms of the realization and fabrication comparing to the other solar devices. However, these single-junction solar cells need more development and optimization for higher conversion efficiency. In addition to the doping densities and compromises between different layers and their best thickness value, the choice of the materials is also an important factor on improving the efficiency. In this paper, an efficient single-junction solar cell model of GaAs is presented and optimized. In the first step, an initial model was simulated and then the results were processed by an algorithm code. In this work, the proposed optimization method is a genetic search algorithm implemented in Matlab receiving ATLAS data to generate an optimum output power solar cell. Other performance parameters such as photogeneration rates, external quantum efficiency (EQE), and internal quantum efficiency (EQI) are also obtained. The simulation shows that the proposed method provides significant conversion efficiency improvement of 29.7% under AM1.5G illumination. The other results were Jsc = 34.79 mA/cm2, Voc = 1 V, and fill factor (FF) = 85%.

Abstract:
There is a requirement for accredited laboratories to participate in external quality assessment (EQA) schemes, but there is wide variation in understanding as to what is required by the laboratories and scheme providers in fulfilling this. This is not helped by a diversity of language used in connection with EQA; Proficiency testing (PT), EQA schemes, and EQA programmes, each of which have different meanings and offerings in the context of improving laboratory quality. We examine these differences, and identify what factors are important in supporting quality within a clinical laboratory and what should influence the choice of EQA programme. Equally as important is how EQA samples are handled within the laboratory, and how the information provided by the EQA programme is used.EQA programmes are a key element of a laboratory's quality assurance framework, but laboratories should have an understanding of what their EQA programmes are capable of demonstrating, how they should be used within the laboratory, and how they support quality. EQA providers should be clear as to what type of programme they provide – PT, EQA Scheme or EQA Programme.

Abstract:
293 Background: In Asia, including Japan, combined androgen blockade (CAB) therapy with bicalutamide is widely used for metastatic prostate cancer. Alternative anti-androgen therapy (AAT) with flutamide (FLU) after CAB therapy with bicalutamide was common before the androgen receptor-targeted therapy era. The AAT response rate was 20–30%, and there is no evidence of prolonged overall survival (OS), but we have encountered effective clinical cases. Currently, two prospective clinical studies are ongoing, but this is the first retrospective study comparing FLU and enzalutamide (ENZ) for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Methods: In our hospital, 55 patients were diagnosed with CRPC after CAB therapy and administered FLU or ENZ between May 2014 and December 2017. Patients with FLU failure then received ENZ. The study evaluation included 1) prostate-specific antigen (PSA) best response with initial therapy, 2) PSA progression-free survival with initial therapy (PSA-PFS), 3) PSA best response with ENZ therapy, 4) PSA-PFS of ENZ therapy (PSA-PFS-ENZ), and 5) OS. Results: As first-line CRPC therapy, patients received ENZ (n=29) or FLU (n=26). In the FLU group, 18 patients showed disease progression and then received ENZ. The PSA best response was statistically higher in the ENZ group. PSA-PFS was significantly statistically longer in the ENZ group (hazard ratio (HR) 1.85, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.53–0.64, p=0.02). However, there was no significant difference in PSA best response with ENZ therapy and PSA-PFS-ENZ between the ENZ and post-FLU ENZ groups (HR 0.80, 95% CI 0.33–1.94, p=0.62) or in OS between the ENZ and post-FLU ENZ groups (HR 1.85, 95% CI 0.53–6.42, p=0.33). Conclusions: AAT with subsequent FLU after CAB therapy with bicalutamide may be suitable for some CRPC patients. (NCT02346578 and NCT02918968).
