Precursors of advanced glycation endproducts, namely, reactive carbonyl species (RCSs), are aging biomarkers that contribute to cell death. However, the impact of RCSs on ferroptosis—an iron-dependent form of cell death—in skin cells remains unknown. Abstract Background Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent, lipid peroxide-mediated cell death that may be exploited to selective elimination of damaged and malignant cells. Recent studies have identified that small-molecule erastin specifically inhibits transmembrane cystine–glutamate antiporter system xc−, prevents extracellular cystine import and ultimately causes ferroptosis in certain cancer cells. In this study, we aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying erastin-induced ferroptosis resistance in ovarian cancer cells. Methods We treated ovarian cancer cells with erastin and exam

Quantum Physics has many concepts that are hard to conceive. The main goal with this project is to explain and demonstrate some of these. To achieve this, a setup has been built where a beam is split into two paths, which then subsequently coincide on a mutual screen. If we choose to deny ourselves the possibility of determining which path the wave takes, the paths are said to be indistinguishable. In this case the waves from the two dierent paths will interfere, which will be seen as a periodic interference pattern on the screen. If we instead choose to do a measurement in such a way that we

Abstract:
The atrocities committed by the Islamic State (IS) between 2014 and 2017 left deep scars on the Nineveh Plains in northern Iraq. IS deliberately targeted ethnic and religious communities with the aim of erasing the traces of diversity, pluralism and coexistence that have long characterized the region. To prevent people from living as Assyrians, Chaldeans, Kaka’i, Shabaks, Syriacs, Turkmen and Yazidis, IS destroyed sites of cultural and religious significance to these communities and devastated their livelihoods, including their crop and livestock farming activities.
