Full textThe aim of this work – to evaluate the influence of motivation upon patients‘ independence. The task: to evaluate patients‘motivation and independence before applying occupational therapy; to evaluate the change of motivation and independence while applying occupational therapy; to determine the relation of patients‘motivation and independence. The research has been carried out in VĮ Šiauliai country hospital in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation in 2008. 30 patients participated in the research: 20 women (67%) and 10 men (33%). All patients have been divided into age groups: up to 44 years (23%), 45-59 years (50%) and 60-74 years (27%). According to the character of contraction of a disease, the lesions of movable-support apparatus (57%) and disease of nervous system (43%) have been distinguished. Patients to whom out-patient rehabilitation had been applied were selected for the research. The primary patients’ evaluation was performed during the first day after their arrival to the procedures of occupational therapy. At the end of out-patient rehabilitation the second patients’ evaluation has been carried out. Two questionnaires were used to evaluate patients’ motivation. Recovery Locus of Control (RLC) reflects patients’ motivation. Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) scale was applied to evaluate the internal motivation. Patients‘ functional condition was evaluated using a Functional Independence Measure (FIM). The way of application of... [to full text]

Full textThesis subject: Effectiveness of Self-support skills development program in Valakupiai Reabilitation Center for persons with cervical part spinal cord injury. Thesis aim: To evaluate self-support wheelchair manipulation skills development for persons with cervical part spinal cord injury during late rehabilitation stage. Thesis methods: The participants of the study were patients with cervical part spinal cord injury, that participated in Self-support skills development program in Valakupiai Reabilitation Center. The examination was performed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of this program for participants. According to spinal cord injuries, participants were grouped into groups of injured spinal cord cervical segments: C5 or higher, C6 and C7 segments. Participants were assessed using Functional Independence Measure (FIM) to assess their independecy and Wheelchair manipulation test to assess wheelchair manipulation skills in the beginning and in the end of the program. Outcomes: Functional independence and wheelchair manipulation skills statistically significantly improved for participants (p<0,05). Functional independence results were dependent on injured segment, the level of the injury did not influence the results very much. Functional independence results showed, that the least problematic domain for participants was eating (4,98±1,0), the most problematic domain was climbing staircase (1,38±0,49). The hardest task in wheelchair manipulation was safe falling out... [to full text]

Full textRadius fractures – are one of the most likely to occur fractures for adults. From all fractures they include from 10 to 15 % of all fractures. It is examined that through whole life, two persons of ten sustain these fractures. Due to fracture fingers, hand, forearms and in part – whole hands, function becomes irregular. Aim of this work is to estimate occupational therapy influence to patients, experienced radius fracture. Tasks of this work is: 1. Evaluate patients hand function, who are experienced spoke-bone fracture, 2. Evaluate patients independence after this fracture, 3. Evaluate occupational therapy effect to these patients hand function and self-care improvement. Research was made at Všį Kauno Kalniečių clinic. Examined people had radius fracture. There were analyzed hundred patients. They were separated into two groups: first and second, both with 50 patients. First group patients had right hand spoke-bone fracture. Second – patients with left hand spoke-bone fracture. To all patients from both groups was adjusted and applied individual occupational therapy programs considering their hand function and autonomy disorder. In order to estimate impact of occupational therapy was used: specially for this research prepared questionnaire; hand strength was measured with dynamometer; hand function was measured with goniometer; also it was evaluated pain and rigor; patients were examined with function movement test (Modified Keitel index) and functional independence... Full textThe goal of the research is to evaluate the influence of occupational therapy upon the development of self-independence skills of autistic children. Research was performed at the children's rehabilitation center in Kaunas from january to april, 2007. 28 children with autism participated in the research: 14 (50%) who received supplementary occupational therapy and 14 (50%) only received training from a specialized trainer; 8 (29%) were girls and 20 (71%) were boys. The children's ages ranged from 3 to 17 years of age. During the research the children's self-independence skills were evaluated by using the self-independence skill scheme of R. Ivoškuvienė and J. Balčiūnaitė. Skill evaluation scheme is an 11 scale scheme, assisting in evaluating the child's attentiveness, broad motor skills, fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination, communication, perception and thinking, numeration, reading, self-independence, playfulness and behavior. The children who participated in this research were taught self-independence, trained in eating (5 tasks), washing oneself (4 tasks) and getting dressed and undressed skills (11 tasks), these consisted of 20 skills - lowest score was 20 and highest score was 100. The children were paired up: from the first group there was selected a similar child from the second group that was similar in age, the level of autism and self-independence skills. Each group consisted of 4 children who had a low level of autism, 5 children with a medium level of... [to full text]

Men injury rate has unchanged. Women injuries rate from 50-55 has doubled. Aim of work was to estimate occupational therapy and kinesio taping influence to patients, experienced radius fractures. Tasks of this work were: 1. Evaluate patients hand function and independence before and after occupational therapy through kinesio taping. 2. Evaluate patients hand function and independence before and after occupational therapy using kinesio taping. 3. Compare the effectiveness of occupational therapy through kinesio taping. Research was conducted in October 2013 – March to examine the 32 patients experienced distal radius fractures at Kaunas Clinical hospital and Kaunas clinics in rehabilitation department. Patients were divided into two groups: control and study. The control group consisted of patients who received occupational therapy without kinesio taping. The study group consisted of patients who received occupational therapy through kinesio taping. The individual occupational therapy program were formed and applied for both groups of patients according to the hand function and self – independence. For occupational therapy program to evaluate the effectiveness of kinesio taping were used: specially for this research prepared questionnaire; hand strength was measured with dynamometer; functional range... Full textStroke is one of the main reasons of morbidity, disability and death in the world and in Lithuania too(1,2,3). Besides stroke is the main reason of sudden disability and often is the reason of dementia(4). The goals of the research was: to evaluate independence of stroke patients and cognitive functions; to estimate what influence do age, gender and stroke type for independence and cognitive functions recovery; to identify the influence of occupational therapy in rehabilitation for stroke patients. The research was performed in department of Neurorehabilitation of Kaunas Medicine University and in Kaunas Panemunės old people house. The impact group were twenty patients from the department of Neurorehabilitation. The control group were from Kaunas Panemunės old people house . For impact group occupational therapy was included. The state of patients were estimated with MMSE and FIM, at the start of rehabilitation and in the end of rehabilitation. Several conclusions were made in summary of results of his study: 1. The independency of stroke patients and cognitive functions was widly disordered, at the start of rehabilitation. 2. After rehabilitation mental status were statistically significant better (p<0,0001) .for impact group and for control group there were no statistically significant change (p>0,05). 3. Statistically significant better results achieved women(p<0,05) than men, age, stroke type didn’t had significant influence for patients independence . 4. Patients... [to full text]
