Full textThere are different sorotypes of Escherichia coli responsable for enteric disfunctions, and in the most of time those are related with meat consume or contaminated food that had not been cooked with an efficient thermal treatment before been ingested. In Brazil there aren t inform data of possible outbreaks caused by E. coli O157:H7, but this pathogen has been frequently isolated from cattle s feces, and it was recently isolated from bovine carcass at two slaughterhouses in Goiás. The present study has the objective to characterize by ERIC-PCR E. coli and E. coli O157:H7 detected at bovine carcass surfaces and check the power of this methodology to identify different isolates of E. coli and E. coli O157:H7. ERIC-PCR was used to characterize 111 samples, and it was obtained 32 fingerprints separated in 90 isolates of E. coli and eight fingerprints separated in 16 isolates of E. coli O157:H7. From the total of 111 samples, two isolates of E. coli and five of E. coli O157:H7 were non-tipables. The fingerprints varies from one to 18 bands. The discrimination between the samples was high, showing the big power of ERIC-PCR to discriminate isolates from one specie. The discriminatory index between E. coli and E. coli O157:H7 obtained was 0,96.

Full textThis study aims to examine how professionals in care for older people experience older people´s needs of counselling in grievous life questions. A qualitative method has been chosen in the form of individual semi-structured interviews with six care workers in municipal care for older people. The theoretical bases which have been applied are social constructionism and Erik Homburger Erikson's theory: Stages of Psychosocial Development. The result of the study shows that older people in care for older people sometimes are in need of counselling. These needs are not always fulfilled today because of the care workers lack of time and expertise in facing grievous life questions. Counsellors in care for older people are presumed to increase because older people in the future will make more demands and also will find it more natural in life crisis to talk to a counsellor.

Full textBACKGROUND: Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is one of the clinical manifestations of coronary artery disease. The Strategy of Registry of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ERICO) is a cohort of individuals treated at the Hospital Universitário da Universidade de São Paulo due to an ACS event. The aim of this study was to describe the frequency of use and time-to-treatment for drugs commonly used in ACS treatment, in the ERICO study. METHODS: We included 746 ERICO participants enrolled from February 2009 to December 2012 who either sought the hospital directly (N = 656) or were initially referred to primary care units (N = 90). We evaluated the time-to-treatment with aspirin, clopidogrel, heparins and thrombolytics, according to the unit of first contact, using logistic regression models. Subsequently, the medical records of 563 (85.8%) participants who came directly to the hospital were reviewed and the frequency of aspirin, clopidogrel, heparins, beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) / angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB), statins, nitrates and morphine use. The reasons for non-administration and/or withdrawal of aspirin, clopidogrel, heparins, beta-blockers and ACEI / BRA were obtained from medical records. RESULTS: We observed that 93.6%, 86.1% and 86.5% of study participants received aspirin, clopidogrel and heparin, respectively, during the first 24 hours of hospitalization. In adjusted models, individuals referred from primary care units were more likely to receive aspirin within the first 3 hours (odds ratio [OR]: 3.65, 95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 2.04-6.52), But less likely to receive heparin (OR: 0.32; 95%CI: 0.16-0.62) or clopidogrel (OR: 0.49; 95%CI: 0.29-0.83) in the same time interval. However, 24.4% of the participants referred from primary care units did not receive aspirin before transfer to hospital. Non-administration of aspirin, clopidogrel, and heparin during hospitalization was a rare event, and generally linked to an increased risk of bleeding. Beta-blockers were not prescribed for 15.8% of the participants, and the main cause was decompensated heart failure. ACEI / ARB were not prescribed for 16.7%, and the main cause was shock or hypotension. However, the causes of non-administration (64.0%) and withdrawal (26.4%) were often not described. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, participants who first went to primary care units were more likely to receive early treatment with aspirin compared to those who went directly to the hospital. However, a significant proportion did not receive the drug prior to the transfer, indicating room for potential improvements in care. The frequency of medication use in the ERICO study was generally equal to or greater than those described in other studies. Failure to properly register the reasons for drug non-administration and treatment withdrawal was a frequent finding, pointing to an opportunity for improved care

Among those dashing to help, the commitment of the Church catholic is to be praised but also critically engaged. Can anyone help Africa to modernize by ignoring that in Africa, modernity meant colonization? Then, a question: what is the Church doing, and what can it do qua Church, for Africa? This confronts us with a situation, an action and a critical question. This work, focusing on Togo taken as mirror to the continent, aims at challenging the way the situation is described, at elaborating an answer to the question in hoping to shed a light on the way the action is understood and undertaken. For such an end, it draws on post-colonial studies and on the Cambridge theological movement called Radical Orthodoxy, through the works of J. Milbank and W. Cavanaugh

This study investigates lexical cohesive devices in the children picture books of Eric Carle. Specifically, nine English version children picture books written by Eric Carle were selected from the best sellers on the online bookshop of Amazon.com. In order to understand the discourse nature of children picture books written by Eric Carle, this thesis investigated how the frequency of lexical cohesions occurred in selected nine children picture books written by Eric Carle. There are two main findings. First, the finding showed that repetition occurred most frequently and the selected books are not lexically dense. Secondly, both repetition and synonymy can be found in the selected nine children books while hyponymy and meronymy were not used in The Mixed-Up Chameleon.

Full textTematem pracy doktorskiej jest wizja szczęśliwego małżeństwa (i intymnego związku miłosnego) w dyskursie poradnikowym w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w Polsce w drugiej połowie XX wieku. W drugim rozdziale analizie poddane zostają cztery poradniki psychologiczne dla małżeństw (autorstwa A. Becka, J. Graya, J. Gottmana i R. Sternberga), wpierw jednak następuje szkic historyczny dotyczący rozwoju literatury samopomocowej (self-help literature) w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Opisane zostają m.in. takie zjawiska jak filozofia "pracy nad sobą " Benjamina Franklina, zaczerpnięta z powieści Horatio Algera narracja "od pucybuta do milionera", Ruch Nowej Myśli (tu wspomniane zostają m.in. poradniki N.V.
