Abstract:
Milton H. Erickson, MD. was born in 1901 in a cabin in a desolate part of Nevada where his father was a gold miner. When he reached school age his family returned to rural Wisconsin, where they had previously lived. As a child Milton experienced the world differently from other children in that he had red-green colour blindness, was tone deaf and, probably, also dyslexic. At 17 he had a severe attack of poliomyelitis. He was extensively paralysed but rehabilitated himself, largely by his own efforts, during the following two years.

Abstract:
There are many commonalities between the techniques used in Ericksonian psychotherapy and the healing rituals used by traditional Native American tribes. Milton H. Erickson had some Indian heritage and may have derived some of his therapeutic techniques from his study of tribal healing practices. A review of the literature shows that both approaches emphasize symbolic healing through the use of story-telling, metaphors, ambiguous tasks, ordeals, and rituals. Both also use direct and indirect hypnosis to relieve psychological distress. Implications for the practice of mental health counseling are described.

Abstract:
Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background the role of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance has gained the more and more importance in the field of cardiovascular disease. Claustrophobia remains a frequent cause of failure to complete a CMR. It is estimated that 2 million scans worldwide cannot be performed annually either due to premature termination or refusal of the patient to be scanned due to claustrophobia. In this setting, medical hypnosis may prove useful to overcome this main limitation. Methods we propose an observational study of consecutive patients referred to CMR and known for severe claustrophobia. Patients were proposed to undergo CMR examination with the help of medical hypnosis according to Milton H. Erickson’s method or with administration of mild sedation (lorazepam 2.5 mg). Results 20 severe claustrophobic patients were considered in the study. 1 patient was excluded due to psychiatric condition, 1 patient undergo to general anesthesia, 5 patients refused the examination. Among the 13 patients, 10 underwent medical hypnosis while 3 patients accepted to undergo to CMR examination with the administration of lorazepam 2.5 mg. All patients treated with medical hypnosis were able to complete the examination with a great tolerance and no sign of stress or anxiety were reported. CMR protocol was performed according to clinical request and was not different form non-claustrophobic patients. None of the patients treated with lorazepam 2.5mg was able to complete the exam. Conclusion we prove medical hypnosis to be safe and effective in controlling patients’ anxiety, allowing optimal diagnostic imaging quality without the need to adapt the examination. Further studies in larger populations are needed to confirm our results.

Abstract:
This essay aims to show some approaches in the understanding of the lifelong learning concepts, knowledge, competence, from a literature review with the contributions of Dewey, Bruner, Freire, Schon and Tardif among others. Coming from theoretical studies carried out by Italian researchers and a Brazilian researcher, through their Research Centers/Laboratories and international collaborative partnership between Brazilian and Italian Universities, this text addresses from the undertake scientific literature, key terms which support the held studies. From the considerations, it is highlighted the regular understanding around lifelong learning concept, which considers the human condition for the permanent learning and valuing experiences from different contexts, such as family and school (basic and higher education). In view of this, the approximation between the concepts of competence and knowledge was also highlighted, recognized and valued as fundamental elements for the learning process and for the development of critical and reflexive thinking, and consequently transforming daily problems and challenges. The task reinforces the research network, pursuing the improving theoretical knowledge to subsidize the scientific research production in the educational field, besides Brazilian or Italian academic walls. Keywords: Lifelong learning, Knowledge, Strategic competence, Reflexive competence.Parole chiave: Apprendimento permanente, Saperi, Competenze strategiche, Competenze di riflessione.Palavras-chave: Aprendizagem permanente, Conhecimento, Competência estratégica, Competência reflexiva.ReferencesALBERICI, A.
