Abstract:
A general irreversible cycle model of a magnetic Ericsson refrigerator is established. The irreversibilities in the cycle model result from the finite-rate heat transfer between the working substance and the external heat reservoirs, the inherent regenerative loss, the additional regenerative loss due to thermal resistances, and the heat leak loss between the external heat reservoirs. The cycle model is used to optimize the performance of the magnetic Ericsson refrigeration cycle. The fundamental optimum relation between the cooling rate and the coefficient of performance of the cycle is derived. The maximum coefficient of performance, maximum cooling rate and other relevant important parameters are calculated. The optimal operating region of the cycle is determined. The results obtained here are very general and will be helpful for the optimal design and operation of the magnetic Ericsson refrigerators.

Abstract:

Ericsson’s factory in Kumla, Modules Kumla, became a hub for radio modules and micro base stations, which enables mobile communication through radio base stations, in 2004. Because of this the factory focuses more on the logistics operations. This has led to a need to be able to plan the capacity for the materials handling system. This master thesis has therefore been performed at Modules Kumla to develop a capacity calculation model for the material handling flow during the autumn of 2005.

The work has contained a mapping of the material handling flow regarding to which activities was performed and how much time they consumed. By using data from the enterprise information system and simple linear regression a capacity calculation model was developed to calculate the amount of staff needed given a specific production and delivery rate.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Ericsson Business Communication Suite (BCS) is a Unified Communication solution destined for larger companies and telecommunication operators. BCS offers services such as instant messaging, video calls, contact group management and much more. The purpose of this project was twofold; developing and integrating an application that could communicate with Ericsson's Business Communication Suite, but also to document this integration through the knowledge acquired from the development. The application was developed for the Windows Sidebar widget engine and a BCS environment was simulated with the help of several programs and applications provided by Ericsson. The results of the project are a step-by-step integration guide, which contains environment setup as well as integration guidelines, and also a widget application that can search for people on the search engine www.eniro.se and utilize services provided by BCS such as contact and group management and video calls. This project demonstrates that a third party developed application can be integrated with Ericsson BCS, and that third party developers and people at Ericsson can use the step-by-step integration guide to easily setup the necessary BCS test environments.

Abstract:
In the past, network providers resorted to indoor solutions for coverage reasons. However, as traffic volume grows and multiple hotspots appear indoors, capacity provision is also becoming a drive for in-building networks, in particular at the expense of LTE bit rate promises. Network vendors are aware of this reality and multiple indoor systems have been launched, as small cells and active DAS and, in particular, Ericsson Radio Dot System. A significant factor dictating the system ability to meet future demands is scalability, either in coverage area and capacity. The aim of this thesis is to evaluate Radio Dot System performance regarding those dimensions, where the factors limiting capacity and coverage are addressed added on by a cost analysis. Furthermore, a discussion on the deployment scenarios as a single-operator solution is done on a business perspective. For the cases evaluated, Radio Dot System provides both LTE and WCDMA coverage and capacity indoors for a range of buildings, from medium to very large. Also, a trade-off between network components and bandwidth allows spectrum flexibility. Moreover, Radio Dot System has an cost advantage over femtocell deployment and macro outside-in coverage regarding the scenarios analyzed. On the other hand, the deployment options as single-operator are, at the moment, limited to medium enterprise clients. However, if the usage of unlicensed spectrum bands, which have been issued in some countries, takes off, more opportunities may arise for single-operator in-building systems.

Abstract:
Abstract Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) along with Thermal Tech Holdings (TTH) have modeled, built, and tested a piston expander for generating power from low temperature heat sources. The piston was developed with the goal of creating an engine that operates as a recuperated sCO2 Ericsson cycle. A cycle model based on fluid properties from REFPROP is applied for various hot and cold temperatures to demonstrate the potential of the novel expander to improve cycle efficiency. Cycle modeling results demonstrate the potential improvements in cycle efficiency when compared to the sCO2 Brayton cycle. Small-scale bench testing is used to validate the novel piston concept for achieving a sCO2 Ericsson cycle. The concept is scaled up to a full-sized, opposing piston cylinder that acts as an expander in the theoretical Ericsson cycle. Testing is performed on the full-scale piston cylinder for a variety of inlet temperatures and pressures. The full-scale tests are run continuously to track the transient effects. The results of the full-scale test are discussed. The expander piston cylinder test results show high temperatures at the outlet, better than the ideal sCO2 Brayton cycle, but less than an ideal recuperated sCO2 Ericsson cycle. Comparisons are made to demonstrate the projected cycle efficiency improvements over a sCO2 Brayton cycle.

Abstract:
In terms of the number of 5G subscriptions, Northeast Asia, including China, is currently ahead of the rest of the world. The global 5G infrastructure market is expected to continue to grow rapidly over the next five years, but the elite club of global companies capable of building it is not expected to expand in the short term. Despite restrictions on Huawei’s participation in some tenders and possible Chinese retaliation against European companies, neither the Chinese company nor Ericsson is expected to be sidelined from the global market for 5G network infrastructure devices. The new networks are likely to be future drivers of economic growth, and the ‘5G competition’ of countries aims to create the necessary technological foundations. Western sanctions against Chinese technology companies will not hold back the construction of 5G and, through it, the future development of the Chinese economy. In addition to establishing a network, countries need companies that really transform their activities by building on new technologies. In the absence of these, 5G rollout can easily remain an unfulfilled promise for economic growth.
