The aim of his paper is to analyze Martin Luther s life, from the psychoanalytic view-point, by studying Erik Erikson s book Young Man Luther , A Study in Psychoanalysis and History. It is a very challenging bibliographic research, due to the amount of material produced up to now on Luther s life. A psycho-biography that aspires developing a profound and comprehensive study of a person whose magnitude of references is so vast is not an easy task. The first chapter s goal is to set up historical-scientific approach of the two protagonists. An exposition of Martin Luther s personal life is detailed firstly, beginning with his parents, reaching his individuality and his relationships with his wife and children. After that, a section will also be dedicated to Erik Erikson s life and thoughts, since he is taken as the point of theoretical reference to this piece of work. The second chapter consists in A Critical Dialogue With Erikson s Theory About Luther, elaborating a critical analysis of Erikson s book, Young Man Luther. This appreciation will be made on basis of the author of this paper s own thoughts, of ideas expressed by Luther himself, and of what other biographers have exhaustively spoken and written about his life. Finally, a critical appreciation and particular conclusions about the main characters will be expressed.
O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a vida de Martinho Lutero do ponto de vista psicanalítico, através do estudo do livro de Erik Erikson, Young Man Luther, A Study in Psychoanalysis and History. É uma pesquisa bibliográfica muito difícil, devido a quantidade de material produzido até aqui sobre a vida de Lutero. Uma psicobiografia que aspire desenvolver um estudo profundo e compreensível de uma pessoa cuja magnitude de referências é tão vasta, não é uma tarefa fácil. O primeiro capítulo tem como meta fazer uma Aproximação Histórico-Científica dos Dois Protagonistas. Primeiramente será apresentada uma exposição detalhada da vida pessoal de Martinho Lutero, começando pelos seus pais, chegando na individualidade dele, e seu relacionamento com sua esposa e filhos. Depois disto, haverá também uma parte dedicada à vida e pensamento de Erik Erikson, que é o referencial teórico deste trabalho. O segundo capítulo consiste em um Diálogo Crítico Com A Teoria De Erikson Sobre Lutero, elaborando uma análise crítica do livro de Erikson Young Man Luther. Esta apreciação será feita com base em pensamentos próprios do autor desta dissertação, no que o próprio Lutero disse, e no que outros biógrafos falaram e escreveram exaustivamente a respeito de sua vida. Finalmente, uma apreciação crítica, e conclusões pessoais a respeito dos protagonistas.

Abstract:
The field of art therapy is still relatively new in comparison to other professional fields of mental health. The profession was influenced and developed by figures in the fields of art education, visual art, and psychoanalysis. Erik H. Erikson is a figure who was trained in all three of these areas; however it seems that contemporary art therapists are unaware of how valuable his life and written contributions are to the field of art therapy. The aim of this research paper is to demonstrate why the life and work of Erikson remains a useful resource to the current field of art therapy. This paper explores the historical context surrounding the life of Erikson, his training in various fields, his difficult experience trying to choose an identity between being an artist and a psychoanalyst, and the written works that he contributed later in his life. As well, Joan Erikson's influence on his work has been examined. Following a historical-documentary methodology, this research has been conducted by synthesizing various sources on topics such as: German Expressionism; art education; psychoanalysis; the history of art therapy; the life and work of Erik Erikson; and the life and work of Joan Erikson. This research demonstrates that Erikson's training and experiential knowledge in visual art influenced his clinical observations and written works throughout his life. By examining the ways in which he perceived his work through the eyes of an artist, current art therapists may be inspired to utilize his achievements as a model for their own practice

Human development is a universal phenomenon, characterized by various stages. These stages differ from one culture to the other. Furthermore, each developmental stage tends to bring about expectations that are in accordance with a particular culture. In addition, in each culture there exist problems that are specific to a given stage as well as to the manner in which these problems are resolved. Erikson=s stages of human development are generally regarded as universal. The universal acceptance of Erikson=s stages seems to be based on a study he conducted, involving a variety of cultures. A question that needed to be addressed was whether Erikson=s developmental stages are similar to those which an African child goes through. This study is an attempt to investigate developmental stages of Africans and compare them to those outlined by Erikson. To investigate the developmental stages of an African child and to establish the relationship between Erikson=s stages of development and those of Africans, an exploratory study was conducted among the people of the Bolobedu community in the Limpopo Province, South Africa. The Balobedu people were regarded as an ideal study sample because of their relatively unchanged lifestyle which still resembles the traditional African way of life. Subjects were interviewed individually, by using an open-ended questionnaire. The results were then interpreted and analyzed. The results show that children among the Balubedu also go through various stages of development which have distinct names. Furthermore, like in many other cultural groups, these stages are accompanied by various problems and expectations. In addition, these people use different methods to address problems experienced during each of the stages identified. The study further reveals that although the developmental stages among the Balobedu have much in common with those of Erikson, there exist differences between the two approaches. These differences are identified. Of the most significant differences is that developmental stages are not defined by age alone, but by other factors such as readiness and ability to perform certain tasks as well. In addition, the study did not indicate the presence of psychological problems that are caused by the developmental process, when these stages among the target group were compared to those identified by Erikson. In conclusion, this study illuminates that there are both similarities and differences between the two approaches. One such difference is that whereas Erikson=s theory describes stages in terms of age associated with some psycho-social problems, the results of the investigation revealed that among Africans, developmental stages are described in terms of the child=s readiness, and that no indication of the presence of psycho- social problems was found. This, it would seem, does not necessarily mean that traditional African children do not experience psychological problems. Instead, it suggests that there are other methods of dealing with these psychological problems, which this study did not reveal. This raises the need to explore the developmental stages and their psychological effects among African children by using a larger sample than the one used in this study. Another distinction is that the definition of various stages is based on cultural values. While Erikson emphasizes the importance of concepts such as competition, independence and egoism, Africans tend to put more emphasis on cooperation, inter-dependence and altruism respectively. Lastly, among Africans, each stage is characterized by rituals and ceremonies. These are meant to mark the beginning or the end of a particular stage or phase, thereby psychologically preparing the individual to adjust to the new position. Erikson=s stages of development seem to have ignored the importance of rituals in the various developmental stages. Therefore, his theory can not be said to be universally applicable.

Identity development has a definite influence on a broad spectrum of developmental domains. This study focuses on specific domains such as student- and career development as facilitating structures from which the formation of a personal identity can be studied and understood. The purpose of this study is to undertake a descriptive investigation into the process of identity development during the late adolescent and early adulthood phases of college students. This developmental process has a definite influence on student development within aspects such as career maturity, intimacy and interpersonal relationships. These aspects' relevance to identity formation is also highlighted. This study utilises theories such as the psychosocial developmental perspective of Erik H. Erikson to investigate the purpose of a variety of factors within the sphere of student and career development. The test sample consisted of 78 students between the ages of 18 and 27 years from the Park Town Tertiary College. The following questionnaires were completed: the Extended Version of the Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status Questionnaire (EOM-EIS); the Career Development Questionnaire (CDQ) and the Student Developmental Task and Lifestyle Inventory (SDTLI). Taking the descriptive quality of this study in consideration, the statistical techniques used in the analysis of the quantitative data included canonical correlation analysis. The study concentrated on possible interventions and recommendations that takes the influence of identity developmental processes and career maturity in consideration with issues such as curriculum compilations, teaching methods and tertiary educational systems.

It is not popular for most of piano practicer to select works of E. Satie (1866-1925). His unique and creative composing style, however, did make certain influence on piano music of twenty century. By comparative method on three works of 《Gnossiennes》at his early stage and 《Embryons Dess�繁h�臃 》of his piano works period III, this thesis is trying to approach and learn the music language of E. Satie. Whole his piano works covered Satie’s life span. They reflect various composing style at each stage of his piano works creation period. His works affected Debussy and Ravel on the harmonics; repeating style of composition affected the developing of latter Minimal music; elimination of bar line and time signature liberated his composition; simplicity of his composing style made its difference from the music by then. All these made E. Satie become a pioneer of contemporary, twenty century music. There are no bar line, key signature and time signature in his creation throughout above mentioned two researching pieces. And the first time in piano music composing that used emotional letters note on it. In《Trio Gnossiennes》, kind of Mode can be heard. In《Embryons Dess�繁h�臃 》, many other authors’ composing fragments were used. Both works’ structure and melody tempo used simple elements. By these, we could find he is extraordinary through the method of ultra simplicity and directness. This thesis includes total six chapters. Chapter 1 contains briefing of E. Satie’s works and relevant bibliographical research. Chapter 2 contains introducing of E. Satie’s life and classification of his works periods. Chapter 3 and 4 focus respectively on author’s creation back ground, mode structure, tone and harmonics, melody elements and application, time signature/ tempo and gesture terminology of two researching pieces. Chapter 5 is an explanatory of performing on these two researching pieces. Chapter 6 is a conclusion of the whole research. This research would obtains a further knowledge and approach to E. Satie’s composing style by studying the early work 《Trio Gnossiennes》 and the work of period III 《Embryons Dess�繁h�臃 》. Hopefully this thesis can provide references to any successive researchers who will do research on E. Satie’s piano works.
