It seeks to identify what, if any, new discursive spaces and possibilities are operational in the post-apartheid capitalist context, and how identities are moulded by, and in tum, influence these possibilities. Operating within a discourse analytic approach, this research did not intend to establish fixed and generalisable notions of identity, but by unpacking the discursive baggage attached to

In recent years, a large number of black holes have been presented as candidates for an evasion of the "no-hair" conjecture. These examples typically have two features: a non-Abelian gauge field and instability. A large part of this thesis is devoted to a detailed study of the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs (EYMH) black holes, including the analytic proof of the evasion of the "nohair" theorem in this case and proving that the black holes are unstable. We also consider an example of a "hairy" black hole not involving a non-Abelian gauge field, which arises in a higher derivative model of gravity de

Paul instructs the Corinthians that it is “one and the same” for a woman to have her head shaved and for her to unveil her hair. There is a large body of works cataloging the modesty standards in Hellenistic Greece but Paul’s reference to head-shaving remains obscure. This is important because multi-channel consumers buy more, the question is why (Neslin, Grewal et al. 2006). The question was answered by comparing consumer behaviour in three different channels: drugstore, internet and multi-channel. By analyzing descriptions and imagery of hair, head- coverings, and the removal of hair, I examine how women’s hair mediates social hierarchy. My proposition is that beneath the external image of female hair resides a narrative of language and dominance. In the first chapter I argue that medieval authors use hair as a locus of power and desire. In undertaking this research, I se

Despite its chequered interpretational history, the book of Shîr ha-Shîrîm (Song of Songs) in the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament has still not come to its fullest religious potential. As the text of Song of Songs itself does not explicitly testify to any religiosity, these communities have understood it religiously by projecting their own predetermined needs and beliefs onto it.
