A total of 155 secondary metabolites have been published from 15 species of Erythrina. Among them E. subumbrans and E. variegata consist of the highest number of chem

Erythrina variegata is a potent medicinal plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. Present investigation was carried out the preliminary phytochemical screening of the Erythrina variegata to evaluate the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, tannins, steroids/triterpenoids, quinones, saponins by using different parts of the plant extracts such as leaf, stem and root in five different solvent systems (methanol, butanol, chloroform, ethanol, and distilled water) by cold maceration technique. According to our evaluation the high intensity of secondary metabolites like alkaloids a

Erythrina variegata is one of the plants that have efficacy as thrombolytic agent. Isoflavonoid compound has the potential to accelerate the changes of plasminogen which plays important role in the forming of fibrin, that causes the formation of fibrin clots that can clog the arteries thus causing myocardial infarction. This study aimed to look at the activity of isoflavonoid compounds from Erythrina variegata bark which are expected to be candidates for thrombolytic drugs. The screening for insecticidal principles from several Chinese medicinal herbs showed that the stem bark of Erythrina variegata var. orientalis possessed significant feeding deterrence against maize weevils, Sitophilus zeamais. Bioassay-directed fractionation of the stem bark extract of E. variegata var. orientalis resulted in the isolation of two alkaloids, identified as erysopine and erysovine from their spectroscopic data. Erysopine and erysovine possessed antifeedant activity against S. zeamais adults with EC50 values of 108.5 and 89.7 ppm, respectively

Erythrina spp. trees have been declining since the 2000s worldwide, and fungi belonging to Fusarium solani species complex (FSSC) have been suggested to be a causal factor of decline and mortality of Erythrina variegata trees in Okinawa Island, Japan. In addition to the FSSC isolate grouped as “it-1” based on ITS sequence data (previously called strain A), we conducted an inoculation experiment with two isolates grouped as “it-2” (previously strain B), which is genetically close to it-1.
