Abstract:
With the expansion of transcatheter aortic valve replacement in low-risk patients, we sought to explore current implanters' predictions on the future of this therapy by sending a survey to a sample of 8,261 healthcare professionals using Internet-based software. The survey contained six questions regarding physician specialty and experience, transcatheter aortic valve replacement age cutoff, optimal treatment for low-risk patients, transcatheter aortic valve replacement valve sequence, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement concerns. The majority, 29% percent, of all respondents felt that transcatheter aortic valve replacement will become the first-choice therapy for all patients, regardless of age and 70% felt that the optimal treatment would be transcatheter aortic valve replacement, with transcatheter aortic valve replacement valve-in-valve if the first valve degenerates. Regarding the sequence of transcatheter aortic valve replacement valves, 78% preferred the Edwards Sapien 3 valve (ES-3) as the first transcatheter aortic valve replacement valve followed by either a second ES-3 or Medtronic Evolut valve. Despite the high acceptance of transcatheter aortic valve replacement, many respondents (56%) felt that surgical aortic valve replacement might still remain the preferred treatment in low-risk patients due to an unknown durability of transcatheter aortic valve replacement valves. A majority of implanters see transcatheter aortic valve replacement followed by valve-in-valve transcatheter aortic valve replacement as the first-line therapy for low-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis, but long-term durability of transcatheter aortic valve replacement is an unanswered concern.

In order to counter the disruptive risks of additive manufacturing technology for the logistics industry, a logistics service provider is enabled to integrate the technology into its service portfolio. Filling the interface between customers and producers enables value-adding elements to be integrated into the process chain of the logistics service provider by establishing itself as an expert for the technical and economic evaluation of additive components.

Abstract:
Study objectiveWe describe ketamine procedural sedations and associated adverse events in low-acuity and high-acuity patients in a resource-limited ED.MethodsThis was a prospective observational study of ketamine procedural sedations at the Emergency Medical Department at the Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We observed consecutive procedural sedations and recorded patient demographics, medications, vital signs, pulse oximetry, capnography and a priori defined adverse events (using standard definitions in emergency medicine sedation guidelines). All treatment decisions were at the discretion of the treating providers who were blinded to study measurements to simulate usual care. Data collection was unblinded if predefined safety parameters were met. For all significant adverse and unblinding events, ketamine causality was determined via review protocol. Additionally, providers and patients were assessed for sedation satisfaction.ResultsWe observed 54 children (median 3 years, range 11 days–15 years) and 45 adults (median 33 years, range 18–79 years). The most common indications for ketamine were burn management in children (55.6%) and orthopaedic procedures in adults (68.9%). Minor adverse events included nausea/vomiting (12%), recovery excitation (11%) and one case of transient hypertension. There were nine (9%) patients who had decreased saturation readings (SpO2 ≤92%). There were three deaths, all in severely injured patients. After review protocol, none of the desaturations or patient deaths were thought to be caused by ketamine. No patient experienced ketamine-related laryngospasm, apnoea or permanent complications. Overall, ketamine was well tolerated and resulted in high patient and provider satisfaction.ConclusionIn this series of ketamine sedations in an urban, resource-limited ED, there were no serious adverse events attributable to ketamine.

Abstract:
31 Background: Our large network of oncology practices (PRs) launched a health IT (HIT) patient portal (PP) to improve patient (PT) access to clinical information (CI) and serve as a platform to enhance PR-to-PT communication (C). Methods: A team of HIT specialists and oncologists engaged in development of the PP to develop a platform to facilitate PR-to-PT C, satisfy meaningful use (MU) requirements, and have brand identification (ID) for PRs. Workflow planning for implementation was conducted including ID and education of key participants at PRs. Educational signage was posted at PRs during initiation partnered with information at check-in at clinic visits to inform PTs about PP benefits and registration steps. After consent was obtained, pts were invited by email to the PP and could access their PP and view and download their secure CI. A review of support calls from both PR personnel and pts highlighted opportunities for enhanced PP engagement. Enrollment (E) was captured monthly. Results: From April 2012 to June 2013 more than 34,000 pts have enrolled in the PP across over 47 PRs (Table). In addition, inclusion of the PR brand and removing extraneous data capture during E are critical to success. Comparing E data from April 2012 to April 2013 after increased PR brand ID and reduction of pt validation changes were implemented, there was an increase of 13% of opened Is and 22% increase in Es. Conclusions: By engaging a development team, and strategically planning content dissemination and education around initiation, implementation of the PP was widely utilized throughout the PRs. By monitoring adoption rates and capturing the PT feedback, incremental enhancements can positively affect PT engagement with PRs. This functional mechanism can now serve as a platform to facilitate C between PRs and PTs, fulfill MU requirements, and plan future dissemination of educational content. [Table: see text]

Abstract:
Asthma is a major cause of morbidity in children and adults. Imperial County has reported among the highest asthma hospitalization rates in the state. Factors such as poverty, access to care, poor selfmanagement skills, and ethnocultural beliefs may influence asthma exacerbations. Provider and adult asthmatic attitudes, beliefs, and practices regarding asthma were examined using a mixed-methods approach: a survey to evaluate provider conformance with national guidelines, and focus groups targeting medical practitioners and adult asthmatics. Half of all providers who treat asthmatics completed a self-administered survey about asthma diagnosis; clinical monitoring of patients; treatment; patient education; and practice guidelines. Provider focus groups further explored survey results. Adult asthmatics participated in Spanishlanguage focus groups exploring cultural beliefs, attitudes, and practices. ABSTRACTSometimes, the size of a company exceeds the level of sales and generates losses; to reduce them, it is proposed that the company incorporates its supplier. Such incorporation can be done in two ways: i) acquire it completely, or ii) associate it. An imperfect information model is built for the company, and the types of suppliers that exist are determined. Based on a signal from the provider, a threshold is derived from which it is beneficial for the company to incorporate the supplier.

Abstract:
Summary Objective: More than 70% of hospitals in the United States have electronic health records (EHRs). Clinical decision support (CDS) presents clinicians with electronic alerts during the course of patient care; however, alert fatigue can influence a provider’s response to any EHR alert. The primary goal was to evaluate the effects of alert burden on user response to the alerts. Methods: We performed a retrospective study of medication alerts over a 24-month period (1/2013–12/2014) in a large pediatric academic medical center. The institutional review board approved this study. The primary outcome measure was alert salience, a measure of whether or not the prescriber took any corrective action on the order that generated an alert. We estimated the ideal number of alerts to maximize salience. Salience rates were examined for providers at each training level, by day of week, and time of day through logistic regressions. Results: While salience never exceeded 38%, 49 alerts/day were associated with maximal salience in our dataset. The time of day an order was placed was associated with alert salience (maximal salience 2am). The day of the week was also associated with alert salience (maximal salience on Wednesday). Provider role did not have an impact on salience. Conclusion: Alert burden plays a role in influencing provider response to medication alerts. An increased number of alerts a provider saw during a one-day period did not directly lead to decreased response to alerts. Given the multiple factors influencing the response to alerts, efforts focused solely on burden are not likely to be effective. Oskarsson, Fredrik, and Wallin Joakim Gernelin. "Supporting servitization via the Internet of Things: the ES provider viewpoint : A case study of the multinational ES provider IFS and its customers." Thesis, Linköpings universitet, Industriell ekonomi, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-148619.

Full text
Abstract:
Servitization is a popular term referring to the innovation of an organization’s capabilities and processes to better create mutual value through a shift from selling products to selling Product-Service Systems. It is generally regarded as an innovative business model with great potential for smoother revenue streams, higher profit margins and longer, more closely-knit customer relationships. It is seldom easy to reengineer the business model of an entire organization and the servitization concept does not come without risks and uncertainties. One of the biggest changes when servitizing is the ownership of products; it is no longer necessarily the customer who owns the product, but the producer. This entails new uncertainties surrounding the use and care of the product, leaving the provider with a risk because of a lack of information about how the product is being used. The technology Internet of Things (IoT) can potentially solve this problem by enabling a constant remote data flow from the products in use back to the provider. IFS, the company at which the research of this study took place, develops and supplies enterprise systems (ES) such as enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) and can be described as forward-thinking and innovative. The ERP is a central point for any manufacturing firm, governing data and enabling an organization to automate and integrate a comprehensive part of their business processes, and to produce and access information in real time. In order to build functionality which can be referred to as the “best practice”, and to make a profit doing it, ES providers, such as IFS, need to stay in touch with the market and develop attractive applications in line with the general demand. One way to do this is to collaboratively develop functionality together with customers. In recent years, IFS has developed the product IFS IoT Business Connector in such a collaborative way with a number of pioneer customers. The product enables the collection and analysis of IoT data as well as seamless integration into IFS’ other products. This has opened up possibilities to utilize IoT functionality to support a more efficient provision of services, but the continued successful development of the Business Connector in this direction entails several more collaborative ventures into many different industries. To assist in this, we have concretized how IoT can be used to support a servitization process, as well as how the market has realized and adopted this. This has rendered a conceptual model for judging the suitability of a company, based on the readiness to utilize IoT and servitization respectively. We have then presented which types of customers an ES provider should aim to collaborate with for joint development of functionality in the enterprise system, to enable IoT solutions which can support servitization. This is followed by a presentation of a short market review, and the visualization of the market in the model. From this we draw conclusions about the fit and usefulness of the model, and the market maturity in general. Finally, we present a number of suggestions on how ES providers can work to develop such support in a more efficient manner.

Abstract:
Human embryonic stem (ES) cells are derived from the inner cell mass of blastocyst stage embryos. Once explanted and culture in vitro, human ES cells retain their pluripotent potential (i.e capacity to differentiate into all somatic cells) and acquire the ability to self-renew indefinitely. These two properties of human ES cells make them an invaluable resource for developmental biology, cell replacement therapies, drug development and toxicology screening. However, it has been widely reported that human ES cells frequently acquire karyotypic changes throughout culture in vitro, termed 'culture-adaptation'. These changes occur sporadically in cultures but appear to be more common in high passage cell lines. The changes also appear to be non-random, frequently involving the gain of chromosomes 1, 12, 17 and 20 suggesting that these chromosomes harbour genes that provide the cells with a selective advantage. These karyotypic abnormalities are also commonly found in human embryonal carcinoma cells and primary human tumours, a concern for the potential use of human ES cells in therapeutic applications. A recent large-scale study by the International Stem Cell Initiative identified a small copy number variant (CNV) on chromosomal region 20q11.21, which was amplified in >20% of 125 karyotypically normal human ES cell lines. Here we show that the high prevalence of 20q11.21 amplification in human ES cells can be attributed to a strong selective advantage provided by BCL-XL. Cell lines containing the CNV show increased protection against apoptosis resulting in increased population growth rates allowing variant cells to rapidly out-compete normal diploid cells. Cell lines containing the 20q11.21 amplification also show altered differentiation patterns and increased survival of polyploidy. We also describe a method for the rapid detection of the 20q11.21 amplification in human ES cell cultures which is sensitive, cost-effective and applicable for stem cell laboratories worldwide.

Full text
Abstract:
Social health insurance is a form of health care financing that has gained increased attention in African countries in the past decade. Tanzania introduced social health insurance by the establishment of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in 1999 with, inter alia, the objective of improvement of the quality and availability of health services. The goal of this study was to determine the perceptions of services providers on the quality and accessibility of health services following the introduction of social health insurance. A qualitative approach was used to gain an insider's perspective from the service providers of how the services have changed following the introduction of the scheme. Individual interviews, observation and field notes were used to gather information on the quality and accessibility of health services under the policy of social health insurance. Data were analysed using Tesch's method of data analysis. The health workers generally perceived the fund as being beneficial to its members as it reduced the financial barriers to receiving health care. However, the objectives of the NHIF as a health financing mechanism were not adequately understood by the health workers. Although they perceived the quality of health services as having improved compared to previous years, they did not associate this improvement with the NHIF. The health workers also perceived accessibility of health services as having improved for insured patients but not for non-insured patients.

Abstract:
Globally, postpartum care is a neglected area in the continuum of maternal and newborn services. Facilitation interventions focusing on addressing local problems report positive results in improving the health of mothers and newborns in low-resource settings.  The aim of this thesis was to investigate a facilitation intervention to improve postpartum care at government-owned health institutions in a low-resource suburb of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. A before-and-after study design was used to describe and evaluate the intervention in this thesis. Data were collected using mixed methods in the intervention group and the control group, before and after the intervention and were used for making comparisons.   The baseline studies showed that postpartum care practices were next to non-existent at the institutions, that most healthcare providers had high levels of knowledge, positive attitudes towards postpartum care and declared themselves ready to engage in its improvement. Mothers coming with their newborns for immunisation were satisfied with the services.  The intervention to improve postpartum care involved healthcare providers in six geographical clusters, each including 3–6 institutions, with one facilitator for each cluster. Using a participatory approach, they facilitated colleagues in identifying and addressing the provision of postpartum care at institutions. Data were collected among healthcare providers, facilitators and mothers using: focus group discussions; questionnaires; observations; and interviews, and by making field notes, written at each institution.  In the intervention, facilitators and healthcare providers used four strategies to improve postpartum care:increasing awareness and knowledge on postpartum care of healthcare providers and mothers; mobilising professional and material resources; improving care routines, communication and documentation; and promoting an empowering and collaborative work style.  The endline evaluation showed that postpartum care was conducted in the intervention group with some care items performed for 80% of observed mothers. The quality grading, which involved nine experts and was based on national guidelines, showed that none of the healthcare providers reached the level of good quality of care. In the comparison group, postpartum care continued to be next to non-existent. The healthcare providers’ knowledge increased in both groups but to a higher extent in the intervention group. The t-test indicated a significant difference in knowledge between the intervention and comparison groups and between before and after the intervention in both groups. The difference in differences for knowledge was 1.3. The attitudes showed no major difference between baseline and endline in the intervention and comparison groups.  This facilitation intervention was an acceptable and applicable approach and indicates promising results in improving the quality of postpartum care and in increasing mothers’ attendance.

Abstract:
This literary work seeks to highlight the importance of the public school as a real and effective possibility in facing contemporary socioenvironmental problems, using urban parks as non-formal educational spaces for the teaching of Environmental Sciences (ES), especially in Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Among the main intentions proposed in the construction of this material, we highlight the intention to stimulate and intensify Environmental Education (EE) in schools; as well as strengthening the idea and the need for the teaching and learning of ES to be thought beyond the walls of the school, in non-formal learning spaces, such as, for example, forests, squares and urban parks. Other objectives related to the production of this material, refer to the need to establish and strengthen the bond of affection and belonging between human beings and nature. As a theoretical and methodological support, the ebook also provides indications for research in EE and the teaching of ES; suggestions for published books on EE; sites related to the environment and EE; examples of pedagogical practices developed by EJA educators, which were designed as suggestions for teaching ES in natural areas and built in the urban environment. Our wish is that this material, specially designed for you teacher, can contribute significantly to your pedagogical praxis, and that this material serves at least as an inspiring source for many other future pratices in the field of EE and in teaching. for ES.

Abstract:
This introduction explains how the development of early analytic philosophy was interwoven with scepticism about the particular–universal distinction, that the failure of Kant’s efforts to transcendentally justify these concepts provided a crucial stimulus for the emergence of analytic philosophy under G.E. Moore and Russell. It outlines, how, in subsequent chapters, this line of influence is followed from the early Moore and Russell through to Wittgenstein’s own deduction of the general form of the proposition (‘es verhält sich so und so’) because this provides scant information about the tolerable arrangement of elements in judgement. F.P. Ramsey’s famous scepticism about the particular–universal distinction is a consequence of this. Wittgenstein and Ramsey’s cognate reflections mark the mature culmination of a line of reflection begun by Moore that thwarted Kant’s ambitions of deriving the categories from reflection upon the nature of judgement in favour of a more naturalistic outlook.

Joyner, Alexandra, ed. Gene Targeting. Oxford University Press, 1999. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780199637928.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Since the publication of the first edition of Gene Targeting: A Practical Approach in 1993 there have been many advances in gene targeting and this new edition has been thoroughly updated and rewritten to include all the major new techniques. It provides not only tried-and-tested practical protocols but detailed guidance on their use and applications. As with the previous edition Gene Targeting: A Practical Approach 2e concentrates on gene targeting in mouse ES cells, but the techniques described can be easily adapted to applications in tissue culture including those for human cells. The first chapter covers the design of gene targeting vectors for mammalian cells and describes how to distinguish random integrations from homologous recombination. It is followed by a chapter on extending conventional gene targeting manipulations by using site-specific recombination using the Cre-loxP and Flp-FRT systems to produce 'clean' germline mutations and conditionally (in)activating genes. Chapter 3 describes methods for introducing DNA into ES cells for homologous recombination, selection and screening procedures for identifying and recovering targeted cell clones, and a simple method for establishing new ES cell lines. Chapter 4 discusses the pros and cons or aggregation versus blastocyst injection to create chimeras, focusing on the technical aspects of generating aggregation chimeras and then describes some of the uses of chimeras. The next topic covered is gene trap strategies; the structure, components, design, and modification of GT vectors, the various types of GT screens, and the molecular analysis of GT integrations. The final chapter explains the use of classical genetics in gene targeting and phenotype interpretation to create mutations and elucidate gene functions. Gene Targeting: A Practical Approach 2e will therefore be of great value to all researchers studying gene function.

Abstract:
The number of refugees and immigrants continues to increase each year. These populations may experience migration-related trauma and stress that increase the risk for mental illness(es). Perspectives about mental illness, its expression, and treatments often differ significantly between immigrants/refugees and their providers. Therefore, psychiatric evaluation requires sensitivity to the patients’ cultural context and perspectives, including the specific stressors associated with being a migrant. Interpreters can be helpful as cultural brokers in the process of forming a collaborative explanatory model and treatment plan. The latter should include psychosocial approaches to help patients identify areas of resiliency and foster post-traumatic growth, as well as social integration and acculturation to the dominant culture while maintaining affiliation with their original culture. This will increase the probability of positive mental health outcomes.

Behmer, Markus, and Vera Katzenberger, eds. Vielfalt vor Ort. Die Entwicklung des privaten Rundfunks in Bayern. University of Bamberg Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.20378/irb-49753.

Full text
Abstract:
Since 1973, the Bavarian State Constitution requires broadcasting services licensed in Bavaria to be organised under public control. However, since the mid 1980s the most diverse commercial radio and television landscape has developed in Bavaria. There are local broadcasting stations in every major city and in every government district. On 600 pages, the anthology offers an overview of how this media scene has developed under the oversight of the Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien (BLM), the regulatory authority for new media in Bavaria, over the last decades. In six chapters and more than 30 articles, historians and communication scientists discuss the broadcasting structure, the legal, technical and economic basics, the program offers and their use, as well as, for example, approaches to promote media literacy and media quality. In addition, detailed studies provide current findings, for example, on approaches to cross-media work and the development of editorial structures as well as the position of women in editorial offices, campus radio offers, the content of regional news, the growing importance of podcasts, music formats and forms of moderation over the decades and much more. Thus, the anthology comprehensively represents the diversity of the commercial broadcasting in Bavaria.

Abstract:
AbstractThe very nature of what constitutes an effective learning environment is undergoing substantial re-imagination. Authors have suggested that the affordances of existing learning spaces, often termed conventional or traditional classrooms, is limited and constrains the possible pedagogies available to teachers. Architects, authors and governments have put forward innovative learning environments (ILEs) as a better alternative. ILEs provide affordances thought to be somewhat better at providing to students learning needs than traditional classrooms, particularly in terms of creative and critical thinking, and collaborative and communicative workers. However, there is little evidence available to show of either spatial type (traditional classroom or ILE) performs pedagogically to either hinder or support the desired approach/es to teaching and learning being sought by current educational policies. One could suggest that a populistic narrative often drives the growing investment in new school learning spaces, facilitated by a vacuum of credible evidence of their impact. This paper will report findings from a three-year study that tracked the practices over time of secondary school Engineering, Mathematics and Science teachers (n = 23) as they occupied two quite dissimilar spatial layouts. The Linking Pedagogy, Technology, and Space (LPTS) observational metric, with its provision of instantaneous quantitative visual analysis, was used to track their practice, and student learning, in a variety of spatial layouts. Subsequent analysis identified broad trends within the data to identify those factors, spatial, subject or confounding teacher factors, which influenced student and teacher activities and behaviours. Importantly, it presented new evidence that works against the current, overt focus on contemporary spatial design. It suggests that greater emphasis on unpacking, and then developing, the mediating influence of teacher spatial competency (how, when and why one uses the given affordances of space for pedagogical gain) is required for any space to performance pedagogically.

Abstract:
Research on project champions has focused on the characteristics of this individual and how to provide encouragement and support. An understanding of the role of project champion is shortsighted, however, without a realization of what can happen to an expert system (ES) project and what can be done, should this individual depart. This paper discusses the ES project champion by examining the experiences of Ciba-Geigy Corporation with an ES project impeded by the departure of the project champion. The OpBright expert system, developed to support the identification of appropriate optical brightener products by sales representatives, was intended to provide a competitive advantage through superior customer service. With the promotion and transfer of the vital force committed to the project’s success, the ES encountered a stalemate. The difficulties in maintaining momentum for the ES without a project champion are discussed. Finally, suggestions are presented to guide organizations away from the same fate.

This chapter summarizes different participatory approaches for assessing ES in urban areas of three countries. In Belo Horizonte (Brazil), a conceptual framework for the vacant lots ES assessment is presented as an attempt to integrate landscape, social, and political dimensions. In Leipzig (Germany), a combination of site surveys, interviews, and remote sensing provides a valuable data set that fostered a comparative study between two forms of urban gardening. In Lisbon (Portugal), the study is based on interviews that offer a social insight into the horticultural parks situation, which in turn demands a better dialogue with the municipality. In general, the studies demonstrate the potential benefits of utilizing the ES assessment approaches on urban landscapes, especially for better understanding the interactions between people and nature in urban sites.

Abstract:
Environmental scanning (ES) improves managerial decisions by linking the business environment with the organization’s internal capabilities. This chapter provides an overview of current developments in ES, underscoring the link between the managerial decision-making process and the different modes of scanning both internal and external information sources, particularly the World Wide Web (WWW). The psychological foundations of human ES activities are scrutinized, and cutting-edge technologies that support monitoring or even scanning of autonomous information sources are discussed to integrate both aspects in a holistic perspective on ES. We identify the most serious challenge in ES to be the detection of relevant sources in vast information environments. Based on the Information Foraging Theory (IFT), we propose an innovative approach to assessing the information gain offered by digitally available sources.

It discusses the challenges faced in modernization of government “businesses” and discusses strategies for implementation. The basis of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions is integration of functions which capture basic data through transactions to support critical administrative functions such as budgeting and financial management, revenue management, supply chain management and human resources management. Today, Enterprise solutions (ES) go beyond ERP to automate citizen-facing processes. The integration of data sources with each contact point is essential to ensure a consistent level of service. The author expects that researchers, governments and solution providers will be able to appreciate the underlying constraints and issues in implementation of ERP and hopes that the learning from industry would be useful to plan implementation of ES in government using emerging technologies.

Companies face the challenges of expanding their markets, improving products, services and processes, and exploiting intellectual capital in a dynamic network. Therefore, more companies are turning to an Enterprise System (ES). Knowledge management (KM) has also received considerable attention and is continuously gaining the interest of industry, enterprises, and academia. For ES, KM can provide support across the entire lifecycle, from selection and implementation to use. In addition, it is also recognised that an ontology is an appropriate methodology to accomplish a common consensus of communication, as well as to support a diversity of KM activities, such as knowledge repository, retrieval, sharing, and dissemination. This paper examines the role of ontology-based KM for ES (OKES) and investigates the possible integration of ontology-based KM and ES. The authors develop a taxonomy as a framework for understanding OKES research. In order to achieve the objective of this study, a systematic review of existing research was conducted. Based on a theoretical framework of the ES lifecycle, KM, KM for ES, ontology, and ontology-based KM, guided by the framework of study, a taxonomy for OKES is established.

Abstract:
In today’s complex world, businesses actively use various methods to deliver goods and services to customers. Due to the active entry of the internet into people’s lives and the increase in the number of purchases made on the internet recently, businesses must actively use the internet in their marketing activities to achieve a competitive advantage. Especially after COVID-19, many businesses have had to perform their activities over the internet due to public health measures. In addition to supporting the promotion activities of the internet, direct marketing, customers purchasing products through e-commerce, and delivering some services online has become a competitive strategy and one of the methods actively used by businesses today. In this context, businesses have become more willing than before to set up their own e-commerce websites. To this end, this study reveals the features that businesses can use in determining the features they need in the selection of ecommerce infrastructure. The study suggested that 21 features for e-commerce sites were grouped among themselves in the context of e-service quality dimensions included in the ES-QUAL and e-Recs-QUAL scales, and importance ranking was performed using the AHP method.

Understanding the interactions between the characteristics and processes of ecosystems is essential for the assessment of ecosystem services (ES) and the functioning of the sustainable development of different sized regions. The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of current research directions in the field of ES valuation, focusing on monetary and non-monetary methods. The analysis of the scientific literature provides an overview of the most frequently used methods focused on monetary and non-monetary valuation of the ES. As ecosystems are lost and permanently degraded, economic assessments and valuations of ecosystems and biodiversity are considered insufficient. In order to support positive changes in socio-ecological systems, it will be necessary to extend and adapt into ES valuation methods transdisciplinary aspects.

Abstract:
An Environmental Control System (ECS) concept is developed to control the temperature of an Electronic System (ES) and to cool the airborne system Electronic Units (EUs). These units are integrated into a Pod that is attached to the centerline station of a fighter aircraft. The objective of this paper is to describe the thermal control system concept used to control the ES bay air temperature, humidity, and pressure; and the cooling system used to cool the EUs. Another objective of this paper is to provide a summary of the thermal-fluid analytical models and the ECS performance predictions. The main components of the ECS are based on vapor cycle cooling. The EUs that support system management and recording are air-cooled. Ground operations are accomplished through the autonomous ECS thermal control of the ES and fan cooling of the EUs. Thermal analyses at aircraft operational altitudes and speeds predict that the ES temperature is controlled within ±5°C of its temperature at take-off by the ECS. ES bay temperatures are held between preset lower and upper bound ES temperatures during the required MIL-STD-210A tropical day without condensation of moisture in the ES bay. In addition, thermal analyses indicate that the EUs are cooled throughout ground and airborne operation to ensure that electronic components are below their manufacturers’ rated temperature requirements.

The U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Specification 6M containers had been the workhorse bulk Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) shipping containers for the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) and many other shippers for over 20 years. This DOT specification container was terminated for shipment of radioactive material on September 30, 2008. The anticipation of this action prompted DOE to develop and implement the ES-3100 shipping container as a replacement for the 6M. The ES-3100 was first licensed in April 2006. Since then, the license has been revised nine times. The ES-3100 was operationally ready for use at several sites by September 2007, and is now in being used on a regular basis for materials that had been shipped in the DOT 6M. The ES-3100 has also been certified for air transport, in support of foreign research reactor fuel supply and international nonproliferation efforts. This container has a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and a Competent Authority Certificate from the DOT. The utility of the ES-3100 continues to grow. The ES-3100 CoC allows many forms of fissile material to be shipped, and continues to be amended to authorize additional contents for a variety of shippers. This paper will identify the currently certified contents for the ES-3100 and the planned certificate amendments to expand the content basis, as well as the approach to add new contents to the CoC. The path to becoming a user of the ES-3100 will be outlined. Operational requirements for this container, handling tools and non-standard operating tools needed for the use of this container will be covered. Readiness requirements, maintenance issues, training, and lessons learned will also be discussed. This paper will provide the information necessary for organizations to obtain ES-3100 containers, the special tools, adequate training, and any other information that would be helpful for a site to be able to use this fissile, radioactive material shipping container system.

Abstract:
Though benefits of Experience Sampling (ES) for experience design and research are apparent, the method has not been widely used in the field. As for the reasons, the following are prominent: 1) methodological issues as conventional ES obtains contextual experience information from the participants’ description of the context), and 2) a lack of theoretical framework enabling researchers to carry systematical analysis and extraction of meaningful experiences. In order to deal with these issues, the researchers have created an adapted ES model, named ‘Context-Specific Experience Sampling’, by which integration of a rigorous data collection and analysis processes is made possible. The model provides explanations of how to gather context-specific user experience information and extract key themes and attributes from the data pool. This approach, manifesting divergent-to-convergent features, is described as ‘experience pooling, sorting, and extracting’ which fall under the concept of ‘experience processing’. This paper details the structure and procedure of the model illustrating it with examples from a small scale lighting ambiance study of fashion stores.

Abstract:
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems simultaneously generate on-site electricity and provide useful heat by utilizing waste heat from a power generation unit (PGU). CHP systems can enhance energy production efficiency and energy sustainability by reducing grid dependency, often yielding cost savings in the process. Furthermore, CHP systems can provide savings over conventional systems in terms of operational cost, primary energy consumption (PEC), and carbon dioxide emissions (CDE). Typical CHP systems generate onsite power using a PGU, and the waste heat from the PGU is used to provide heating or hot water to the facility. Another variation for this system is to incorporate an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) to allow for increased potential reductions in operational cost, PEC, and CDE when compared to separate heat and power. This paper evaluates the effect of using electric energy storage on the performance of a PGU-ORC system. In the proposed system, the waste heat from a PGU is used to generate and to store electricity using an ORC coupled with electric energy storage (ES) (battery). Then, the electricity that is stored in the batteries could be used during the system operation at different times of the day so the PGU does not have to operate all the time. The PGU-ORC-ES system (with battery storage) is compared with a conventional system in terms of operational cost, PEC, and CDE. A restaurant building located in Chicago, IL is used to evaluate the potential of the proposed PGU-ORC-ES system. Results indicate that the addition of electric energy storage is beneficial to the proposed PGU-ORC system in terms of operational cost, PEC, and CDE. Furthermore, the effect of the size of the electric energy storage on the system performance is analyzed in this paper.

Abstract:
Pipeline operators of both hazardous liquid and gas pipelines occasionally need to update and improve the process documents within their integrity management programs (e.g. written integrity management plan, risk methodology, etc.). Typically these needs arise in the spirit of continuous improvement (e.g. internal audit findings), or following a large merger or acquisition that requires version consolidation for one or more integrity management process documents. The authors have identified essential elements that provide a proven approach for successfully updating and improving integrity management process documents, including: 1. Gap Analysis 2. Gap Filling with Stakeholder Involvement 3. Implementation Plan DNV GL has found these elements can be applied effectively to small scale (e.g. an update of an operator’s in-line inspection process) and large scale updates (e.g. concurrently updating the entire set of integrity management program process documents). After identifying the process documents for updating, the first element is a gap analysis to identify gaps related to compliance and industry standard practices. The gap analysis may also identify inconsistencies between multiple legacy documents (which is often the case after a merger). The next element is to fill each of the gaps and resolve each of the inconsistencies identified during the gap analysis. The primary stakeholders for the target process(es) should provide input to this step. Significant changes require increased stakeholder involvement and buy-in. Gap filling concludes with creating revised (or new) integrity management process document(s). The last element is implementation of the revised (or new) integrity management process document(s). The revised (or new) integrity management process(es) may require the operator to add resources or new expertise to their organization. The implementation plan will identify potential additional resources and/or training requirements. The implementation plan will also identify benchmarks and goals to allow the operator to effectively monitor the implementation of the revised (or new) process and ensure it achieves the intended results. The following paper explains in detail how to execute each element and provides examples of supporting work materials to efficiently create effective and compliant integrity management process documents.
