Full textBackground: Swedish investors have an increased interest in sustainable investments, thus the demand for measuring companies’ sustainability work, based on ESG criteria, has increased. Research on who, based on demographic and socioeconomic aspects, that choose to invest in ESG shares is limited. Previous research has mainly studied sustainable fund savings through surveys. Purpose: The thesis aims to analyze whether differences in ESG mean in the stock portfolios of Swedish SR-investors can be explained by demographic and socioeconomic differences. Furthermore, the thesis aims to identify what demographic group has the highest preference for each sub group of ESG. Completion: Through a unique data set, we perform multivariate regressions, which enables a comparison of ESG means in stock portfolios of different demographic groups. Through research questions, we discuss and compare the results with previous research. Conclusion: The study finds that the Swedish SR-investor with the highest ESG mean in the stock portfolio is most likely an older woman, with low income and living in a larger city. Furthermore, the study finds that middle aged and older women, with low income and living in and outside a larger city, have the highest preference for each sub group of ESG. In addition, the study finds both similarities and differences between these results and previous research.

Full textEcologic sustainability has become increasingly important in the public debate, as well as among companies and investors in the recent years. This causes the investments companies to further improve their product development processes to meet the requirements concerning sustainability. The purpose of this thesis is to increase the knowledge on how investment companies work with ecological sustainability in their product development process. The thesis examines four research questions, all of them linked to the investment companies' work concerning ecological sustainability. Initially, a literature study was conducted to provide the writers with knowledge and understanding of inclusion of ecological sustainability in the financial market. Five representatives representing four different investments companies in Stockholm were interviewed with focus on the integration of ecological sustainability in their product development processes. It has transpired that there was a big difference regarding how different investment companies worked with integration of ecological sustainability in working methods likewise in the scope. In conclusion, most investors somehow work with sustainability. The incentives for working with ecological sustainability varies. First, due to the increased demand from customers on ecologically sustainable products in more recent years. Secondly, many investments companies believe this will give a higher return. Although, the green market is still not big enough to give the investment companies the possibility to invest only in ecological sustainable companies. Also, reduced diversification can lead to an increased risk. Furthermore, there is still a shortage of guidelines concerning how an investment company can ensure whether an investment is sustainable or not. The new taxonomy aims to clarify this, although, it still has a need of further development in order to give a more nuanced picture of what actually is a sustainable investment.

Full textAim: ESG ratings can be used by investors who want to invest their capital in a sustainable way. However, the reliability of the ratings has been questioned by previous researchers. Previous studies have shown that the effect of a controversy on the ESG rating can vary depending on which aspect of the rating is studied. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a connection between environmental controversies and the environmental dimension of the ESG rating. Method: The study is quantitative and has a hypothetical-deductive approach. Two hypotheses have been formulated in the study and tested through regression analyzes in the statistical program SPSS Statistics. Secondary data has been collected from the Thomson Reuters database Refinitiv Eikon. The population has consisted of 64,800 public companies, from which a sample of 1752 companies has been made. Result & Conclusions: The results of the study show a positive correlation between environmental controversies and the environmental dimension, even though the definition of environmental controversies is negative. This means that the companies' environmental dimension of the ESG rating is positively affected by an environmental controversy. CSR report was the only variable of sustainability work that is positively affected after an environmental controversy. The study concludes that the company's ESG rating in the environmental dimension increases after involvement in an environmental controversy and that companies to some extent improve their sustainability work, in the form of sustainability reports, after an environmental controversy. Contribution of the thesis: The results of the study provide increased knowledge about how environmental controversies affect the environmental dimension of the ESG rating. For investors, this can be helpful when planning new investments because it provides an increased understanding of the effects of an environmental controversy that can be seen in the environmental dimension of the ESG rating. Suggestions for future research: Following the study's conclusions, several suggestions for further research arise. Since different credit rating agencies can give the same company different ESG ratings, the same study could be repeated with ESG ratings from other credit rating agencies. Another aspect that can be investigated is whether companies with higher ESG ratings are involved in fewer controversies than companies with lower ratings.
