Freire, Barrios Camila. "Procesos de apropiación del espacio público en la biblioteca periférica de El Agustino, Lima Metropolitana." Bachelor's thesis, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2018. http://tesis.pucp.edu.pe/repositorio/handle/123456789/12330.
Full textThe aim of this study was to explore the process of space appropriation that occurs in the Peripheral Library “Marco Fidel Suarez”, of the district El Agustino in Lima Metropolitana, by the neighbors, and to contribute with the dual model of space appropriation of Vidal & Pol (2005). In this model, the space appropriation is understood as a dialectical process by which people and spaces are linked, within a sociocultural context, in individual, group, community and society levels” (Vidal & Pol, 2005, p.292). To achieve this purpose, six adults with the more frequent use of the library and the largest amount of years living in the district were interviewed. Subsequently, and in a complementary manner, two girls and one adolescent were interviewed. Likewise, 16 hours of observation were made, strategically divided in a week day and a weekend. As a result, it was found that the process starts with the people who arrive at the library according to what they require at that moment in order to satisfy their needs. Next in the process, the library is valued as a pleasant, productive, safe and regulated place, this leads to identification with the library. The identification generated is subsequently reflected in the level of participation that the person has in the library. Finally, this process goes to a communitarian level that lead the library to become part of the neighborhood.

Full textIs the province of Pisco currently a city? After the major earthquake of 2007, measuring 7.9 on Richter Scale, struck the province and caused serious damages to buildings; slightly start to reveal the deep rifts also created in the society. In other words, there were not only physical ruptures in the urban fabric of the city, but the social fabric was affected too. The social fabric, composed of the relationships that arise, day by day, among its inhabitants, was weakened until nowadays. Public spaces lost their borders and became in blurred spots over the map. Thus, in one fell swoop, the city lost vitality. Having no memories, activities and collective imaginations to offer their citizens decreased the quality of life of its citizens. Slowly, the empty physical spaces traduced into identity gaps within their people. Ten years later, many abandoned fields remain the same and important squares start losing their visitants. The axes of the urban center are still there awaiting to be renewal and re-inhabited. In this regard, the proposed project explores the synergy between the concepts learned about the development of urban centers and the Architecture, looking for recovering not only the physical areas but also the identity, collective memory and citizenship. A public living space named “Centro del Pisco” as urban activator, crowded with cultural and commercial interactions involving both local and foreign residents. In other words, a source of public memories

Full textThe research studies the process of Catholic revival in Arequipa in the context of the modernization of Peru between 1886 and 1925. The revival in Arequipa, mainly carried out by the laity of the elite and the middle class, was part of a process of renewal of global Catholicism during the 19th century, which allowed the Catholic Church to be placed in the process of modernization and secularization. The context of Catholic revival, under the leadership of the ultramontane clergy, allowed the formation of a militant laity organized in Catholic societies of piety, apologetics and social action. These societies thought the role of Catholicism of Arequipa in the public space, in the context of the institutional and cultural modernization of Peru, and, even, the theological and political reflection of the clergy and the laity proposed an alternative of Catholic social order for the country. In addition, the failed attempt to form a Catholic Party, an initiative emerged in Arequipa with national scope, was the highlight of the search to articulate a national Catholic project for the country. The failure, because of the important disinterest of the archbishop of Lima, prevented the formation of a national Catholic alternative to the modernizing process. However, the vitality of the laity built a Catholic identity in Arequipa, that allowed to think of the city as a religious bastion against a centralist and secular Lima. Without being a large number of laymen and laywomen, the Catholic societies’ public activities of charitable and apologetic and the formation of lay people, such as the one held in the Circle of Catholic Workers, show the force of revival of Catholicism in the city. Despite not having an impact in the construction of state policies, Catholicism in Arequipa allowed to think an alternative policy from a regional and religious perspective. The investigation gives an account of this process of transformation of Catholicism in Arequipa and its public activities between 1886 and 1925.

Full textThe present work is inserted in analyzing the dynamics of power in the symbolic appropriation of public space by urban artists in Metropolitan Lima. Urban art is an extremely heterogeneous artistic field that invites us to ask ourselves, who can make urban art? Where can you make urban art? On the one hand, it is necessary to recognize the social fracturing, typical of urban inequality in Lima, that promotes and or hinders the use of public spaces by citizens. In this sense, although urban art seeks to be free and for everyone, it ends up being concentrated in certain districts of the city that promote processes of musealization, gentrification, etc. On the one hand, in the history of art, it is necessary to recognize the most renowned artists of urban art such as Banksy and Basquiat. Despite social, temporal and geographical differences, they all share a common gender characteristic. And, although in recent years, many women have been inserted in various artistic spaces in search of breaking the category from muse to artist, there are still very few women who dedicate themselves to street art. This inequality, beyond being treated as a mere inequality in the artistic field, is interrelated with the access and use of the city from a gender perspective. The difference between the use of public and private spaces in the city is based on differences in traditional gender roles. Caring for the home is a task traditionally assigned to women that takes place in a private environment; while men have control and dominance of the public sphere. For this reason, the work of urban artists feminize space from the symbolic appropriation of a historically denied space.

Full textThe popular district of La Balanza has experienced physical changes throughout the years, as well as changes in the way of living of its inhabitants. An example of this is the value citizens give to public spaces, and the way they relate with each other and with their environment. The Fitekantropus Project has been working in this popular district for ten years, with an all-inclusive urban vision that aims to achieve the integral development of the whole popular district of La Balanza in Comas. This investigation demonstrates that, by means of an integral intervention which includes the transformation of physical spaces and social processes of the community, a dynamic of life within the neighbours of La Balanza is generated and the development of other valuable aspects is promoted. The thesis answers the question: How does the Fitekantropus Project contribute to the generation of social capital and local development in the popular district of La Balanza? The general objective is to analyze the project’s contribution to generate social capital and local development in the popular district in order to show good practices that will contribute to exert the right to the city and generate local development. From this research, the evidence of the Fitekantropus Project can be considered an example of success, not only because of the recuperation of public space for the benefit of a given population, but also because of the successful experience of strengthening social capital and generating local development. Full textThe Costa Verde as a coastline is part of the metropolitan Lima landscape and due to its geography it grants a unique condition, being the only South American capital facing the Pacific Ocean. Through the years, different plans, strategies and interventions have been made, in order to consolidate it as the great public space that Lima needs. However, the fragmentation and overlapping of the power of decision has not allowed the execution of any of them, at least in an integral way. Therefore, the importance of this research lies in the evidence of the political and spatial dimension involved in developing metropolitan-scale projects in the territory. Based on this premise, a new perspective is considered under which Costa Verde is studied, evidencing the negative influence on the development of projects and the implementation of urban plans or strategies, due to the fragmentation of decision-making in the power. So, through conversations with the responsible architects, the main visions and interventions on the Costa Verde, paradigms are established that form a new integrated vision of the coastal edge. And starting from the knowledge of the political reality, under which decisions are made, the appropriate strategy is established with which to start the construction of this new imaginary, in a context of political fragmentation and atomized decisions.
