Full textThe hispano-american deputies at the cortes of cadiz proposed numerous reforms aimed at the "decolonization" of america within the framework of spanish unity. Elected by the provinces faithful to the metropolis, they asserted local rights, but the requirements of legislative work for the spanish empire as a whole led them to adopt a more general continental view. They supported the integration of the indigenous population and the "castas" into "useful" society, but also displayed the prejudices of white society against the coloured population. They proposed a model of an unrestricted liberal economy, which would allow the creoles to exploit the resources of the american provinces. They argued for a rationalization of territorial arrangements, and the establishment of smaller provinces in which the spanish-american themselves would exercise local power. The deputies solidarized with the first juntas set up in south america, but were not in favour of absolute independence, which they regarded with suspicion. For the liberal american deputies, the 1812 constitution was an additional reason for sentiment attachment to spain. But by then union with the metropolis was a matter of debate rather than a self-evident political fact

Full textThis thesis attempts, for the first time, to address a comparative analysis of the role that liturgical music played in the process of building the sacred image of the sovereigns of the Bourbon House of France and Spain as part of the religious ceremonies celebrated in Madrid and Versailles during the last decades of the Ancien Régime, as well as the role that the example of the Pontifical Chapel played in this process. The main purpose of this study was to provide a conceptual framework and analytical model that would allow a global study of sacred music for these ceremonies to be approached from a perspective closer to cultural history than traditional musicology, but always starting from the analysis of the performative aspects that revealed the reciprocal interaction between music and the ceremonial, political and historical context of which it was a part. Along six chapters, we examine the elements that shaped the ceremonies of the State liturgy, conceived at that time as sacred representations: the different scenes in which they took place, the actors, the ceremonial, as well as the functioning of the different styles of singing used to solemnize both the ordinary and extraordinary ceremonies celebrated in Rome, Madrid and Versailles between 1745 and 1789. This included not only sacred music works produced ad hoc by the choirmasters, but also other music, such as plainchant, counterpoint or faux-bourdon, which were sometimes performed by improvisation or memorization as part of this same system of representation

Full textA map of mexico-tenochtitlan, ca. 1520, appears in two editions of 2nd and 3rd cartas de relacion by hernan cortes. Both editions were born in 1524, the first, the latin one in nuremberg, the second, the italian, in venice. Proceeding from a lost prototype, formed in situ, the figure gave rise to an engraving made in european conventions system. Because of the present data, this grafic document let us know the order of the indian town just before the destruction by spanish people. Conformity between the urban components on the so called cortesian map and the structures excavated by the archeologists during the templo mayor project authenticate the objective content of the engraving. This observation, more the analysis of instances of "ideals citys", shows up the weakness of utopia in the mind and construction of the map. Realism and will to inform by objective description were not in use in the end of the xvth century. Analysis of a large part of the whole representations of three significant towns, paris, venice and jerusalem points out different development for cartografic evocation of each of those places. Perpetuate space perception of mexico results almost only of the picture born in 1524 and which bordone's reshaping in 1528 started wide family of pictures built on this foundation. Permanent re-employment of princeps map' s morphology leads to disparition of starting pragmatism on behalf of an abstraction supporting european imaginary during xviith and xviiith centuries. So goes missing descriptive realism caracteristic of a map without imagination nor symbolism for the benefit of symbolic picture which permanence in geographical works, travel books, historical chronicles, points out this "elsewhere" importance for european people looking toward mexico. This subject in keeping with space and territory's perception and representation, shows that beyond graphic semeiology choosed at a given time, the picture's cliche fluctuate in the process of time with surrounding and moment

Full textThis PhD thesis deals with modal active control applied to string musical instruments. Its main goals are to propose an approach and adapted methods to apply this kind of control, to investigate its possibilities and to study its effects on musical instruments. First, a short presentation of the different methods of active control and their applications to musical intruments is done. While the modal parameters of musical instruments are believed to be good descriptors of their perceptual attributs, the modal active control method is chosen for this work. Adapted methods from modal state control are used to answer to specific issues related to musical instruments. To modify the amplitude of the vibration modes, a time-dimensionless model and a derivative and proportionnal modal state method are proposed. Then, these control methods are experimentally applied to a single string instrument, a guitar and a cello. A real time control system based on a free and opensource framework is developped. The possibilities and the limits of modal state control are studied using this experimental setup. Finally, a case of a complex phenomenon contributing to the sound production in string instruments is studied thanks to the developped control system. The coupling between the string and the soundboard is observed, analytically studied and controlled. The results obtained with control and with a synthesis method are studied to compare this two investigation methods

Full textThe present research deals with the work and life conditions of servants in sixteenth-and seventeenth-century Madrid. All the aspects of their daily lives, both material (wages, possessions, lodgings) and personal (marital status, social life and networks, family relations) are tackled in this work. The in-depth study of this social category is the synthesis of a wealth of information provided by the parish censuses of the time, but also from solicitors’ and hospitals’ official documents and registers, treatises on housekeeping, textbooks for priests, and various other narratives of celebrations and miscellaneous events. What is also under scrutiny in this research is how servants and their relations with their masters were then considered and represented by Spanish society. What is even more of interest is the gap between the negative picture that the average man had of the allegedly dangerous criados as a social group and the facts registered in the judicial documents of the period under study

Full textIf the power of constitutional courts is defined by the influence that they exercise upon other legal bodies, one must consider the review mechanisms at their disposal to exercise that power and the various ways in which other legal bodies can limit constitutional court influence. In Spain, France and Italy, the distribution of judicial review mechanisms and means of legal influence between the courts and the other legal bodies is different. The Power of Constitutional Courts gives an account of constitutional court power based on the distribution of judicial review mechanisms and other means of legal influence. It details specific ways in which constitutional courts have been able to establish their power in the three countries. It explains: the judicial deference of the Spanish Tribunal towards the legislature and its domination of other Spanish courts; the collaborative relationships of the French Conseil constitutionnel and the Italian Court have established with other courts and the more confrontational relationship they have had with the legislature
Capique, Luc. "Etude et édition critique annotée de Carlos V en Francia de Lope de Vega." Thesis, Pau, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PAUU1009.
Full textThe theatrical production of the Spanish Golden Age pro-poses numerous plays dealing with contemporary historical subjects. The interest for this historical material can be particu-larly observed in a symbolic playwright of this period: Lope de Vega. Although the purpose of this material can vary, it often possesses an extradramatic interest. The choice of events staged by Lope de Vega is often connected to corresponding events at the time of writing. The play Carlos V en Francia, written in 1604, is a part of these historical plays where we notice an alteration of events in connection with the political current events of Lope de Vega’s time. The work of the thesis presented here proposes a critical edition with notes of Carlos V en Francia by Lope de Vega, preceded by an introductory study which focuses foremost on its historic aspect and its extradramatic interest; and on the dramatic mechanisms de-veloped by the playwright in the system of the characters, the versification and the structure

Full textOur thesis is dedicated to the study of the narrative pliegos de cordel of Spain's War of Succession (1700-1715). This generally versified literature - the most widely spread metrical form was romance -, existed between the XVth century and the early XXth century. It was printed on loose sheets, and was mostly sung and sold by the blind? The low cost of such sheets made them available to the poorest people's purse. We took a especial interest in "philippist" pliegos, i. E. Those which defended the cause of Philippe d'Anjou, Grandson of Louis XIV who reigned with the title of Philip V, as opposed to the Archduke Charles-François-Joseph of Austria, who also aspired to the throne of Spain with the title of Charles III of Austria. But we also take into consideration the "austracistas" or pro-Austrian printed sheets distributed in Barcelon (Catalonia was in complete support of the Archduke's cause between 1705 and 1714). Through such sources, we analyze the popular and collective imagination throughout this period of time, so as to understand how the Spanish lived and construed in this unusual style of dispute and how the new dynasty, the Bourbons of Spain, who are still reigning today, settled, not on the throne, but in people's heart - or else why it could not settle thereto, as this was in Catalonia's case. In order to figure out hte specificity and find the genesis of the popular speech, which assumes spontaneously the propaganda either from one side or the other, we are studying its relations with the officila speech by comparing pliegos with gazettes, especialy with the Gaceta de Madrid, and the short "relations" : both come up in the same form as pliegos (not much more expensive lose sheets) and meet the same requirement of the public (the desire for being informed about everything new and the latest events). But unlike such pliegos, they come from the political power or authors being in the service of the latter. In that way, we are determining the role of pliegos in the issue of political propaganda and the specificity of this speech
