O presente trabalho insere-se no debate sobre desenvolvimento regional brasileiro. Parte da constatação de que a Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP) foi o epicentro do processo de industrialização brasileira e de que, a partir de 1970, apresenta fortes quedas em sua participação na produção industrial e no emprego.
