Full textThis work is part of the activities to obtain the title of Master of Arts from the Graduate Inter Program in Aesthetics and Art History at the University of São Paulo (USP-PGEHA). It is desired to identify some concepts present in the Existential Phenomenology of Jean-Paul Sartre that may be located within the training structure Modern Design in Architecture and Design. The modern thinking in architecture and existential thought in philosophy are both unique reflections of a much broader transformation and radical in the history of the Western world. But this time - the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century - is to philosophy and the artistic field a moment of unprecedented disruption. This transformer thought gemina both existentialist philosophy as in modern architecture - associated with these transformations - are evident through the manifestos, treaties and the writings of this time. This paper therefore seeks to find, through the analysis of these two theoretical sets, some concepts that can be interrelated. At the end of the process it is hoped, however, that produced analysis can contribute to enlarge, to a very specific point of view, the perception of training modern movement in architecture and design.

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to point out how a new not yet established practice, the philosophically-oriented debate, tends to form a new school genre in itself. Once a theorical model of the genre, taking into account its build-up and the various stakes eamarked by the theoricians and practitioners of the philosophy for children has been put togheter, the analysis of a corpus including the 1st and 2nd cycles of primary school aims to put this theorical genre to the test of the concrete, leading to didactic suggestions. Then it is wondered in a third part whether the genre belongs to the field of philosophy in order to show that only its deliberate inclusion in that field enables it to form a genre and contribue towards achieving the priority targets of the main trends which assert themselves within the philosophy for children, i. Full textThe political and religious history of spain during the second half of the 19e century shows the violent conflicts and struggles that oppose the spanish catholics. A better understanding of concepts as: liberal or moderate catholicism, intransigent catholicism or integrism, "possibilismo catolico" clears up the complexity of these conflicts. The analisis of the spanish catholic press and more precisely of the catholic catalan press brings out the existence of an integrist catholic current which is deeply rooted in catalonia. Through this study we have also tried to pinpoint the existence of a moderate catholic group formed under the impulse of the escuela apologetica catalana. This group, faithful to the guidance of leon xiii, wishes to help the spanish church to meet the requirements of its time. The analisis of this period which goes from 1868 to 1900 also shows the strong links existing between spanish integrist thought and french ultramontanism

Full textThe object of this research concerns Japan between 1953 and 1976. Using the essays of the philosopher Ōmori Shōzō, I expose the nature of his concept of "apparaitre (jika ni tachi-arawareru)." I highlight the possible relations found between this concept and the concept of being. By tracing this pure ontological framework, I present a part of the philosophical histo-ry of Japan. Thus, the primary purpose of this research is to unfold the network of fundamen-tal concepts that are attached to the apparaitre, including: perception, form, paysage, lan-guage, attitude, organisation unifiée and immediacy. This text makes a critical approach to the general problem of "reality" namely the logical, relational comprehension that can be found between mind and thing. My hypothesis is that the apparaitre allows a revision of the fundamental metaphysical structures that usually legislate the construction of "reality," by examining the possible relationship between a thing and its representation, or the world and its image. In drawing on the Japanese resources for understanding the apparaitre, this re-search aims at enriching the meaning the specific philosophical vocabulary in the contempo-rary philosophy of mind. Most importantly, it also argues that the Spaltung philosophy, con-sidered to be initiated by Descartes, is not defensible. In view of the current aporias of this debate and my reading of Ōmori, I show that the hypothesis of the split between body and mind has been sufficiently challenged, and critically rearticulated in contemporary Japanese philosophy.

Full textOne of the main features of the first forty five years of the Third Republic is a policy of secularization in many fields, beginning with education and reaching its climax in 1905 when the law on the separation between church and state was passed (given the French context at the time, it especially targeted the catholic church). During the first two thirds of the XIXth century Lyons had known a strong revival of Catholicism which manifested itself by the creation of dynamic charitable organizations. The town then had to face a sudden increase of anticlericalism. The confrontation between two groups that were politically opposed – let us name them “clerical” and “anticlerical” – sparked crisis after crisis, followed by lulls and reconstructions, all these being sometimes different from what was happening at the national level, due to the particular characteristics of the town. In concrete terms not all that had gathered under the banner of anti-clericalism held the same opinion about the struggle: the workers in the district of La Guillotière did not hold the same grievances against the clergy as the radicals in the “rue de Grôlée committee”. Yet, although anticlericalism can be easily defined, clericalism proves more difficult to apprehend: in the first place it depends on the perception the others, and more specifically those who support the anticlerical faction, have of us. Catholicism then tends to see itself as a besieged fortress and the different manoeuvres set up to defend its religion, the numerous attacks against the clergy, even against religion from men in power are, in Lyons, quite in keeping with a long succession of struggles, insurrections and suppressions of which each side claims -or does not claim- the ideological posterity

Full textWage labor in agriculture is globally growing with the expansion of a capitalistic agriculture. Yet, this form of labor is not very much studied in Social Sciences. This research, built on the Sociology of Work, questions the social conditions that underlie agrarian capitalism. The approach focuses on the definition of workers’ autonomy, security and common good in large palm tree plantations in Indonesia. The thesis tests first the notion of “spirit of capitalism” as developed by Boltanski and Chiapello, applying it to workers – not to executives. It applies then this notion in a society where the Welfare regime is poorly developed. Field work, when contrasted against an historical ideal type of plantation capitalism, shows a change in the state of this capitalism since the 1970s. Conflict was the main mode that regulated labor during the first century of plantations development. The dismantling of a number of social protections and a new tolerance toward freedom of entrepreneurship brought social peace. Two forms of autonomy rose, which are mainly determined by the local conditions of access to land : controlled autonomy and acquired autonomy. A monographic approach of workers’ private lives witnesses however the remaining influence of hierarchical domination. The thesis concludes that partial autonomy, subtly associated with a strong and accepted control leads to the reinforcement of plantation capitalism. Results offer also food for thought on the wider issue of contemporary agrarian capitalism

Full textStarting from the viewpoint of a scientific worker immersed in the social context - in this instance the realm of urbanism - under the guise of a CIFRE contract which endows the researcher with the status of architect/urban designer at the Saint-Nazaire planning agency, the investigation of this particular "black box" concerns different levels. Through observations (of both promises and actions) and interactions, the established researcher tests the hypothesis of immersion and descriptive urbanism to renew knowledge concerning urban-planning activities. The thesis reports the daily activities of a team of technicians involved in the development of the territory, through their trajectories and their productions. By experimenting with different forms of writing, the interviewer reveals the routine work of agencies: their strategies, their tools and methods, the power struggles, the plurality of roles and positions between technical and political staff. Retracing the history of the agency shows the links between the urban fabric and this planning structure through the emergence of both "management and leadership urbanism " and a "fictional urbanism." The investigation then unfolds outside the office and focuses on territorial prospective, from a socio-technical perspective. Seeing the urban fabric through the prism of its prospective activity highlights how the convergence of trajectories and interests depicts a network where models and "good" practices circulate and interact, at different territorial levels and between the worlds of urbanplanning. This work identifies the activity of storytelling and interpretation as a specific practice of urban planning. Taking it seriously can designe a "new spirit of urbanism" tensed between performance and evaluation, communication and control, leadership and management

Full textIn facts and manifestations watched as irrationals by the scientist and positivist understanding, one can detect from the point of view of the philosophy of Being, a poetic rationality which is at work in every human spirit. This “super-rationalism” able to integrate at the same time both the perceptible and the rational obeys a logic of symbolism we find in the African Ontology. The ontological Africanism leads into a philosophy of the finiteness where the intuitive knowledge frees the spirit from the rationalist dogmatism. It enables a comprehension of the Being as a whole looking at the question of the relationship to the self, and the relationship to the other through the figure of the African sage.Today, the encounter of cultures and civilizations allows a crossing of rationalities and a plurality of values that are the foundation of the new humanism we claim as ours. An humanism based on the respect and the understanding of the other by accepting the difference of his own thought as well as his socio-psychological attributes

Full textThis research work aims to contribute to the study of the new challenges of conception raised by critical design. In several respects the corpus of this thesis is based on a history of coun¬ter history, a way of doing and thinking whose conspicuous historicity takes place in the late sixties when a few designers decided to reconsider the notion of project and stray from the straight and narrow in order to question society through the means of design. The notion of criticism - from the Greek krinein meaning «separate», «discriminate» - takes on its full meaning by introducing a shift (not a break) which makes room for inter¬vals and allows sensitive thinking and conception. From human enhancement to human modification, this thesis also reveals a number of concerns which go beyond the invention of artificial means and touch upon biological aspects. Considering that the critical dimen¬sion in the field of design has been exhausted, this research highlights a few ways to deconstruct the operating principles of this discipline as well as its reinventions

Full textThe scores of the Star Wars saga, a gigantic dischronic cycle spanning over a long period of twentyeight years, are all composed by John Williams, a unique configuration in cinema history. This compositional consistency should theoretically establish the two trilogies (1977-1983 and 1999-2005) as a coherent and unified whole, especially as George Lucas considers the six episodes as one single entity. Nevertheless, the hexalogy’s musical unity and the existence of a Star Wars musical signature are far from self-evident, instead taking the form of an ideal devoid of real, solid foundations.By adopting a comparative cross-disciplinary approach and by resorting to different scales of analysis (episode, trilogy, saga), this dissertation aims to show in which ways the musical material, Williams’ compositional practice as well as the use and integration of the score within the audiovisual complex are subjected to profound transformations between the two trilogies. This research also questions how and to what extent these changes in Williams’s writing and the score’s treatment in the different episodes are related to the mutations of film techniques, especially those of the digital age.Drawing on unreleased hand-written sources and personal interviews conducted with Williams’ main orchestrator, Conrad Pope, and his music editor, Kenneth Wannberg, this dissertation implements a firm interdisciplinarity at the intersection of musical analysis, cinema and technology history
Bihay, Thomas. "De l'idéologie des industries créatives aux politiques de reconfiguration territorialisées : le cas du territoire métropolitain lyonnais." Thesis, Lyon, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019LYSE2029/document.
Full textThis research focuses on how creative industries, apprehended as ideology and scientifically constructed theory, deploy in a non-linear way from the international to the local through the discourses and practices of heterogeneous actors (political, industrial, cultural ...) to their operationalization as part of local territory policies of reconfiguration. These refer to policies aiming at transforming the territory image. This work focuses on the metropolitan area of Lyon, which is emblematic of several processes taking place for forty years (globalization, development of ICT, decentralization...) and reconfigurationpolicies conducted in other territories (Berlin, Reims, Lille...). The analysis deploys in three steps.First, we analyse how the creative industries are defined and promoted through institutional discourses (Unesco, DCMS, Creative France...). Three types of discourses are distinguished: those with explicit entrepreneurial goals; those addressing the creative industries as ensemble of sectors related to cultural industries, to which are added few others placing "creativity" at the heart of their activities; finally, the discourses that apprehend creative industries as the central pillar of territorial development. Nonetheless, these types of institutional discourses have in common to resonate with those of the promoters of the New Sprit of Capitalism. Then, we pay particular attention to discourses and practices of professionals of the territorial reconfiguration, namely those of the public and territorial communication to which are added those of the territorial marketing. These professionals are intermediaries who contribute to the diffusion of the creative industries by promoting assumptions, practices and arrangements resonating with those disseminated in institutional discourses. If a lexicon, notions and methods from management sciencessupplant references to creativity and territorial policies focusing on innovation and creativity, a gap between their discourses and their actual practices exists. Finally, we are interested in the way in which the creative industries are reinvested in the territorial reconfiguration policies of the metropolitan area of Lyon in order to create and disseminate a creative image. The reflection is articulated here on the way in which these policies are related to a triple territorial reconfiguration (tangible, reticular and symbolic). In particular, we are interested in the operationalization of major artistic and cultural events, spatial planning projects and stakeholder networks taking place on the territory aiming generating creative image. The practices and arrangements realized on the territory are in continuity or resonate with those prescribed in the institutional discourses and those of the professionals of the territorial reconfiguration. In the end, we show how the ideology of the creative industries deploys through discourses and practices of heterogeneous actors that resonate and, as a result, contribute to reinforce this ideology. Our study pays attention to circulations, which are not only downward or prescriptive but are also re-appropriations and interpretations of the creative industries by those actors. The logics of the actors studied are stressed, while showing how their discourses and practices are in interaction
Idlas, Sandrine.
Full textThis present research argues that the gift of the Spirit in the Pentecost account (Ac 2.1-13) is to be understood as a source of empowerment for the task of witnessing. The thesis that I defend is that the passage of Ac 2.17-21 is in fact a fundamental axis of the pneumatic theology of Luke’s work, which in turn interprets the pentecostal gift as a prophetic endowment. I will demonstrate this affirmation by performing a redactional analysis of Ac 2.17-21, which is, in fact, a citation from Jl 3.1-5 quoted in Peter’s pentecostal speech whose purpose is to interpret the pneumatic phenomenon of Ac 2.1-13. I start by examining the specific position of Ac 2.17-21 in order to assess the strategic value of its location (chapter 1). I will then carefully look at how Luke interprets this prophecy, only to conclude that he understands the work of the Spirit mainly as a source of empowerment for a prophetic task (chapter 2). I will verify this conclusion throughout the Gospel of Luke (chapter 3), and then in the Acts of the Apostles (chapter 4). This exercise will bring to light an important parallel between the circumstances surrounding the inauguration of Jesus’ ministry in the Gospel of Luke and that of the disciples in Acts, which shows that, in both cases, the Spirit is given as a source of power for a prophetic ministry. The disciples’ ministry is therefore to be understood to lie in the continuity of the one of the Master. Consequently, we will see that all of the pneumatic discourse of Luke’s Gospel converges towards the initial outpouring of the Spirit on the disciples in the Pentecost account, and that this same passage subsequently sheds light on the missionary work in Acts. In short, the interpretative passage of the pentecostal phenomenon, Ac 2.17-21, brings to light a fundamental axis of Luke’s perspectives on the Sprit; It is the prophetic Spirit. The gift of Spirit at Pentecost is then in turn to be understood primarily as a prophetic endowment enabling the disciples to witness.
Full textThis thesis focuses on a particular period in literary history that goes under the name of fumism. This “fumist” moment, which occurred during the years 1860-1880 in Paris, introduces a new economy of meaning that, in the latter part of the nineteenth century, leads to a transformation in reader’s changing perceptual and intellectual habits. In the perspective of institutionalized literary history, critics conceive fumist productions as “fumisteries” (which might be rendered as “nonsense”) and lump this ephemeral movement or literary school (“l’École fumiste”) together with decadent and symbolist literary movements, reducing it to so-called mystification contests organized by the comedian named Sapeck and the writer Alphonse Allais, both designated as leaders of “l’École fumiste” around 1880. Yet, rather than viewing fumist productions as aimless provocations and assimilating Rimbaud’s work as an example of this “fumisterie” and decadence, this thesis examines the underlying presuppositions of language that are operative in the novel understanding of literature it entails. In this perspective, “fumism,” as a theory of discourse and literary practice, signals the emergence of a new vision of language and literary production. Against this background, this thesis presents a detailed historical reading of fumism in the context of literary debates in late nineteenth-century France. At the same time, this study shows how the reception of fumist works leads to a transformed economy of meaning and, above all, to a reconfiguration of literary understanding. As this study details, fumist productions (essentially poems and caricatures that can be viewed in the Album zutique, the main corpus) are based on rebuses. Remarkably exemplified by Rimbaud’s controversial sonnet “Voyelles”, this new meaning economy creates what are termed “documents”, which place the materiality of the text on a par with its potential meanings. In interpreting this transformation, the thesis concludes by demonstrating how this new understanding of meaning lays the groundwork for the artistic economy of the twentieth century – in particular, with regard to the dynamic mode of perception introduced by the father of the animated film, the fumist Emile Cohl.
