Abstract:
This study addresses the central question of how Brisbane's La Boite Theatre negotiated its transformation from an amateur repertory society to an established professional company and, despite set-backs and crises, survived, changed and developed in an unbroken line of theatrical activity from its genesis in1925 to 2003. To answer the question, La Boite's history is surveyed within its three status modes of amateur, 'pro-am', and professional. Effective artistic and organizational leadership and a set of key manifestations of effective leadership are identified as crucial to the company's successful transformational journey. Such a transformation is a distinctive achievement in Australian repertory theatre history and, in exploring it, this study makes an original and important contribution to the history of Australian theatre organizations, very few of which have been the subject of scholarly research.

Häßler, Alina, and Bernd Souren. "Which product attributes lead consumers to prefer startups’ products over established companies’ products in the specialty product category? : A study of the electric vehicle market in Germany." Thesis, Högskolan Dalarna, Företagsekonomi, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:du-28013.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate which product attributes lead consumers to prefer startups’ products over established companies’ products in the specialty product category. The research object is the electric vehicle market in Germany and the product attributes that are researched are alignable attributes, non-alignable attributes and the price. Design/Methodology/Approach – Quantitative data was collected via an internet questionnaire by means of the non-probability sampling techniques convenience and snowball sampling. The data of 408 members of the German Generation Y (age 17 – 38) was used to test six hypotheses by applying ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis. Findings – It was found that established companies possess a pioneer advantage in comparison to startups for the specialty product ‘electric vehicle’. This advantage can be overcome when startups differentiate their electric vehicles by implementing superior alignable attributes, a valuable non-alignable attribute or a lower price. Superior alignable attributes had the strongest positive influence on consumers’ preferences towards the startup’s electric vehicle, followed by the lower price and a valuable non-alignable attribute. Limitations/Implications – This study is limited to investigating consumers’ preferences without focusing on the reasons behind the preferences. Further, the category of specialty products is represented by only one example, namely the electric vehicle industry. Practical Implications – Startups can benefit from the results by adopting differentiation strategies that were found to be successful in overcoming pioneer advantage. Originality/Value – This study contributes to pioneer advantage literature by researching how startups can successfully overcome pioneer advantage in the specialty product category.

Njovu, Peter. "Estimating of duration, cost and schedule in project management : a review of company practice and documentation to establish how much historical data helps to enhance the estimating process." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/53415.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is focussed on the all-important issue of estimation and forecasting in project management. Most project managers relate the kind of difficulties they have to go through in dealing with superiors that come up with a targeted deadline for a project with a given budget but with little or no regard to due process of arriving at both duration and cost. Many projects are doomed to overrun both schedule and cost from the word go because either the project manager is not equipped to give accurate estimates or is too timid to upset the boss by saying they do not believe the project would be completed within the said duration and the given cost without compromising quality. It is well said in literature that the three pillars of any project completion are time, cost and performance. Two of the three can be predetermined and the third will normally be dependent on those two. Where there is generous time and a large budget, chances are that a good quality well considered and executed project will result. The opposite is also true. This study investigates literature on the subject and also seeks to look at the trends in estimating in practice, by way of questionnaire and physical inspections. The questions that it seeks to answer are: a) Are project managers in most companies formally qualified? b) What is their disposition to using computerised/statistical methods in estimating? c) Does the level of education affect the disposition of project managers to using computerised/statistical methods of estimation? And finally, d) What methods are project managers using to estimate duration, cost and schedule? The results of this survey show that most projects managers do not have formal training in project management. At best they have attended short courses in project management. The survey also shows that even the formally educated project managers do not think much of strictly scientific (computerised/statistical) methods of project estimation. They rather feel that getting input from experienced functional people on the separate parts of the project tends to produce more accurate estimates. There is a leaning therefore towards using past experience on similar projects to generate norms and expert advice from the relevant functions on the expected costs and durations of accomplishing the parts of the project on which they have experience. All the project managers that responded to the survey said they had formal documentation for their projects and that they kept copies of the documentation in a central place that was easily accessible. Physical checks of this fact revealed that 29% of the interviewees did not have central or well-kept databases of previous projects' information.

Thesis, Paris 10, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PA100089.

Abstract:
The given research unites four main questions: 1. Place of European Convention on Human Rights in Georgian Law. 2. Conformity of Georgian legislation with the European Convention on Human Rights. 3. Conformity of Constitutional Law judgments with the standards established by the European Court of Human Rights. 4. Judgments of European Court of Human Rights against Georgia. In connection to all these questions there is very little information and work in Georgia, which has made us study them better – on the ground of actuality of the given questions. We’ve considered discussing to the West European reader that Georgia is a developed country. It is located between Turkey and Russia, during its whole history it had to be orientated on the self-defense policy. History of Independent Georgia starts in 1991 by destruction of the Soviet Union. In 1999 Georgia became a member of the European Union, but National Law in Georgia and Europeanization process of State Institutions started in 2004. Human Rights European Convention represents an effective standard of Human Rights, accordingly activities of European Court of Human Rights causes great interest in Georgia. Despite all these in the legal circles, between them use of Human Rights European standards have become obligatory in the courts. It is needed that the judges, advocates, procurators and representatives of other legal professions have to actively use the existed standards of Human Rights Protection. In the framework of the given research we will investigate influence of European Convention on Human Rights with Georgian Law and starting from ratification of European Convention by Georgia – since 1999 – till February 28, 2014 included in two directions: 1. Place of Human Rights European Convention in Georgian Law (part I) and 2. Georgia against European Court of Human Rights (part II)

Abstract:
102
In the era of fast technological change and global competition, more and more enterprises would face various critical challenges due to shrinking market or threat from new entrants who use differential product strategy and better value-added services to customers. These external threats gradually make an established firm obsolete and difficult to grow in value. Even worse situation comes with the leadership deficiency of the mature company, which eventually will further creater problems to the society. To address this kind of concern, the present thesis undertakes a case-base research based on AK Company and focuses on how the theoretical framework of core competence, proposed by CK Prahalad and Gary Hamel, can help to turn around an established company who fails to achieve continuous growth. With the support of this framework, we develop various tools to diagnose and guide the establishment of strategic architecture based on renewed core competence for the case company so that the company can pursue her growth momentum. As far as the managerial tools are concerned, we use Check List of Core Business to help find out the major problems of company and draw Map of Core Competence which helps redefine the new core competence that may lead to the next core business. We then use Strategic Activity System (SAS) to layout the strategic architecture for the case company to execute. As a strategic leader for an established company, it is very important to find out or re-build company core competence, upon which corporate culture change and a strategic architecture for continuous growth can be based. Finally, implications of applying core competence concept to drive corporate renewal and suggestions to established companies for continuous growth are discussed.

105
With global aging era arriving, health care and biochemical industry become one of the most important developments in the near future. Spinal degeneration and other joint degeneration health concerns will play an important part of global market demand on bone related medical devices. Bone-related operations reaches 40% in top 10 operations has become the biggest portion of hospitalization operations of a whole. Spinal related operations come in second on the number of bone-related operations. Due to the enormous market demand, more companies successively pay attention to this industry. Surely the global venture capitalists (VC) will not ignore this current and will continuously bank heavily in this industry. As VCs all know that investment on innovative spinal related industry is a must, however, there is no valid and proper evaluation method on the market. The Net Present Value (NPV) method is not able to represent the reality of current ever changing industrial environment, thus it cannot provide a close to reality value to a company for an investment proposal. Venture capitalists are in need of a new method which eliminates the drawbacks of the Net Present Value (NPV) method. We believe through Fuzzy Real Option method, we can eliminate the drawbacks from NPV and will be able to evaluate the actual value on an investment proposal precisely. It will also evaluate the predicted values to the company when it is given different strategical options, such as defer, abandon, contract, and expand to prove the existence of flexible value when undergo different strategies. Fuzzy real option not only can provide the crucial piece of information for the CEO of the company when it comes to strategy making, but also can help VCs determine the value of the investment proposal of a potential investing candidate. This research will not only be focused on studying a newly established spinal medical device company and through fuzzy real option method to provide a piece of importance decision making information for the venture capitalists, but also can be used as an evaluation method for other investment projects.

The research results are as follows: Traditional evaluation method: Under the traditional evaluation method, regardless of ROA, ROE, or EPS, the performance of the subject securities company after the establishment of financial holdings was better than the performance before the establishment. But the market shares and settlement amounts dropped dramatically due to higher corporate investment percentage and intensive competition among financial holdings. MVA evaluation method: Subject Company’s MVA was negative NTD 842,950,000 prior to the financial holdings and negative NTD 661,760,000 after; the results had shown that the establishment of financial holding company had no negative impact on the subject’s performance. EVA evaluation method: Subject Company’s average EVA was NTD 27,823,000 and NTD 120,829,000 respectively before and after the establishment of financial holdings; the results had also shown that not only the subject’s performance was not impacted by the establishment of financial holding company but instead experienced a healthy increase in performance under the intensive competition situations. Strategy: The non-financial-holding small to medium sized securities companies should try to confirm their market positions and competitive edges through innovative thinking, employ new concepts, willingness toward necessary changes, and devise and execute future strategic planning.

Moreover, “people” is the central point, for example, knowledge, technology, ability, job quality and etc., The main goal is to describe the standard qualification in each position. It can provide the basis in hiring, selecting, training, evaluation, and deploying. This research is to adopt observation, work diary, questionnaires, and interview in processing job analysis. It is an integrated method. The ”Job Description” and the “Job Specification” are the consequence of utilizing job analysis. Moreover, this research is to investigate the problems that the case companies will face. In addition, job analysis can provide the analysis of difference altogether. The conclusion is as following: 1.To establish “Job Description” and “Job Specification,” and to describe the details for each employee and staff. As a result, it has the standard requirement. Select different persons for different duties; recruit and utilize talented people; be well suited with one’s place; get twofold results with half the effort. 2.To provide the forecast of human resource in case company, to know the work content exactly, and the qualification of talent. The purpose is to be prepared beforehand and supply the internal training for employee and staff in case the insufficient of external talent. 3.It is the foundation to have an efficient educational training, the job description and the job specification can provide the resource of educational training for case company in the future. 4.In the procedure of job analysis, it is obviously that employee and staff’s level of quality are inadequate. Thus, the best way of improving quality is to modify the hiring standard rules and to train internal employee and staff at the same time. Work both ways can strengthen the competitive power of the organization. 5.In case company, the talent of middle managers are insufficient, and the manage talents are not enough. Abstract:
96
As a highly competitive era of the global economy, the fact that the 21st century is the era of knowledge-based economy and competition of human resources is constantly accentuated in many management articles. Surely a company''s development needs qualified human resources. Meanwhile, the promotion of human resources is increasingly paid more attention, especially various trainings that arranged by individual companies, in addition to the entire human resources from society. However, in the traditional corporate organization, the units of education and training usually set up in the Human Resources Department. Additionally, in general, the main target of education and training are the internal staff. Shall we follow the concept like that, or re-examine the potential needs of customers from the internal and external organization to find out new orientations and opportunities? As a result, how to create new education and training models and orientation to make sure that the education and training are not hidden in the door which act as a hand behind the scenes? How to change this kind of role and eventually become the assistant for business competitiveness, even a kind of power hand in commercial activities, which means that the education and training could become a significant learning and create new competitive advantages? This is the main motive for this study. This research will be tested by action research: 1) whether or not promote the interests of relationship 2) whether or not develop shared values and communication 3) whether or not enhance relationship commitment and trust through the education and training between distributors and channels, in order to get closer cooperation and upgrade of recognition, bring the improvement of operating performance, enhance the competitiveness of enterprises. That means we plan to probe into the model which combines education training and relationship marketing by empirical cases. The process of this empirical study includes the selection of distributors and channels, curriculum selection and implementation and depth interview after training, after-training behavior survey, after-training behavior and attitude of observation, sales data collection and the analysis of related information. From the above, this study combine the relations interests, shared values and communication with the education and training courses between distributors and channels to enhance relationship commitment and the degree of trust to make cooperation more closely, the level of recognition higher, and reduce the tendency of departure, which eventually bring the improvement of operating performance, enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.

Abstract:
94
Prior to 1998, local family-owned and operated single auditorium movie theaters dominated the Taiwan cinema exhibition industry. In that year, the opening of the 17-plex Warner Village Cinemas (WVC), a joint venture between Village Roadshow and Warner Brothers Theaters located in the Hsinyi District of Taipei, disrupted the entire dynamics of the market. For the first time an international cinema chain opened a state of the art facility in Taiwan forcing local operators to adjust their tactics and strategies, initiating the downfall of Shimending as the center of gravity for cinema exhibition. In the six years from the time of opening their first cineplex, WVC went on to open six other locations: Kaohsiung, Tainan, Taichung (2), and Hsinchu (2), but then decided to divest from the market. One of the sites that WVC had signed a lease for was the Cathay Life building in Tienmou; in light of the shareholders desire to depart from the Taiwan market, they sold the rights of this site to a consortium of local investors, WVUG, but maintained a management contract with the new owners. Another site that had been previously committed to by a local cinema exhibitor was the Miramar Entertainment Complex Cineplex. Miramar was unique in that aside from 8 mainline auditoriums, it would have the first commercial IMAX auditorium in Taiwan. Prior to the sale of the company to a consortium of local investors and Golden Harvest from Hong Kong, WVC secured the management contract for the Miramar cinemas. The first chapter provides background to the research and introduces the Case and the questions I seek to answer. Chapter 2 attempts to give an overview of the cinema exhibition industry with special focus on the particularities of the Taiwan market. Chapter 3 provides an introduction to WVC, Miramar, Tienmou, and the events leading to the breakup. Chapter 4 analyzes the market for cinema going in Taiwan, the differences between local cinema operators and international chains and the factors leading to the decision by Miramar and Tienmou to establish a company. The final Chapter attempts to answers the questions in Chapter 1. As Miramar was the driving force behind setting up the independent cinema exhibition company, I will focus more on Miramar than on Tienmou, but I will also introduce the background and other information on Tienmou when necessary.

Because of the rushed nature of the legislative process, many people have questioned its content. The Act also lacks a clear supervisory system, even if it has the power to supervise many financial products. However, it is necessary to establish a good supervisory system in order to eliminate all disadvantages and develop our financial holding company into a healthy condition. The thesis focuses on how to establish a supervisory system on our financial holding company, and its goals are the following three items. (1) By studying our recent financial supervisory system, we can understand how to reform the system. (2) By studying the construction of our financial holding company’s interior control, we can understand how to instruct the internal control system and internal audit system, and consolidate the corporate governance mechanism in order to eliminate all disadvantages and develop a healthy condition. (3) By studying the construction of our financial holding company’s exterior control, we can understand how to protect the customer’s personal information. We can also use the study to analyze how the authority examine the financial checkup done by the financial holding company and how the accountants execute the relative financial checkup works entrusted by the Ministry of Finance. After the study, we find that there are still many problems in our financial supervisory system. For example, the system does not have a single authority, a well-designed system and enough professional inspectors. These disadvantages show up that we need to amend our insufficient financial supervisory system. Basically the Act has provided a good provision on internal control and audit, but it still needs a further clear provision on internal control examined by the accountants. For the system of corporate governance, the Act sill needs to be amended, so that an independent board director and auditor are to be established, thus avoiding the problems that usually come when they also work for other companies on a part-time basis. Finally, we have also located some problems with regards to the external control of financial holding company, the option for the customer’s right to drop out, the relative expedients and examinations among the different financial markets, and the financial examination entrusted by the accountants.

92
Taiwan businesses have demonstrated flexibility and emergency-handling capability in this highly competitive environment. In the face of diminished profits, they have to think about how to establish a long-term competitive edge. In view of this, Taiwan businesses should work harder to upgrade their products and services, consolidating their production experiences, R&D and marketing ability in an effort to create their own brands. The objectives this study hopes to achieve are: 1.Finding out the corporate resources information product manufacturers have when entering the brand marketing field. How do they innovate through consolidating internal resources in order to develop the competitive edge needed to manage a brand? 2.Examining the dynamic relations and situations information product manufacturers face when creating their own brands. 3.How to make Taiwan brands worldwide using China as the home market? Study results reveal that now is a critical time for manufacturers to create their own brands. This is because the information industry is at a stage when the market differentiation is vague and multiple values co-exist. In addition, the change in global market economy and the emergence of the spacious China hinterland have undoubtedly brought unlimited business opportunities. After many analyses, manufacturers that have done well in the brand-marketing field have come to understand how to cope with the changes that are happening outside of the industry through utilizing corporate resources. They have thus accumulated brand-developing experiences that are worth learning from and found out the key to success. They hope what they have learned may be used by others for reference in decision-making.

This research used a more sophisticated “Case Study” to further explore the actual operations of the Compensation Committee. We do expect this qualitative research and case study analysis to compensate for the lack of past quantitative researches. Through in-depth interviews, some observations are as below: 1. Compensation Committee is unable to suppress Fat Cats. And Fat Cats also exist in non-sales functional heads level. This is a noteworthy potential crisis. 2. Compensation Committee has little effect on the remuneration package of Board of Directors and Executive Management Level. 3. The impact of Compensation Committee to enhance the company's operating performance is not obvious.

103
In today’s information and knowledge era, enterprises aggressively compete for talent, often described as an organizations’ most important asset. As a result, human resource system tend to be taken seriously as the importance of corporate governance. HR professionals implement a variety of strategies and theories into their human resources systems, hoping to find the most suitable talent and retain top talent for their organizations. However, how to ensure that workforce capability is fully implemented, and how to integrate organizational systems and practices to expand the horizons and capabilities of human resources to achieve organizational goals, is still lacking. The People Capability Maturity Model (P-CMM) utilizes a "flow" concept to create five maturity levels to guide organizations to progressively improve their human resource capabilities. The main purpose of this study is to validate the use of P-CMM levels at the case company's human resource capability maturity, and to enhance the case company’s human resource capacity of the maturity level of the strategy to provide continuous improvement and upgrading. This is to serve as a reference for other organizations to consider in implementing their own human resource capability maturity. Through qualitative research, the researcher found that organizations can use P-CMM maturity of each principle for the organizational characteristics of enterprises. P-CMM helps to shape their commitment to perform and their ability to perform. P-CMM helps ensure that the practices are performed appropriately, and measured, analyzed, and verified, in a way that will help improve the organizational capacity of enterprises, and thus enhance the business performance and development of enterprises.

Abstract:
100
Influenced by the business environment development and market openness, most the development of securities business is confined in Taiwan market. Plus, the business is similar, which has resulted in high competitiveness; therefore, the securities business owners keep increasing and stabilizing the basic income by expanding agent market. Therefore, the branch manager as the main operator of the branch is very important. When there is a job vacancy for branch manager, they often headhunt people from competitors. The recruiting manager cannot expects the recruiting performance; such can only be proved by the explanation or information provided by the supervisor of the hunted manager, or the recruiting manager selects through interviews. The case company has no unified standard for the manager suitable as the branch manager. Furthermore, recruited manager often has low organization identity and poor executing performance. It is hoped that this research can establish the key competence for the case branch managers to understand the aspect and behavior for them. Also, in order to increase internal promotion rate, the internal potential talent evaluation standard is established as the reference for the case company in mid- and long-term talent development. The conclusion of the research is as follows: 1. The branch manager should have “impact and influence,” “achievement orientation,” “initiative,” “team leadership,” “developing others,” and “communication”competence 2. The basic evaluating required competence for the talent database of the case branch are eight items including “organization knowledge,” “leadership derailers,” “leadership promise,” “demonstration of results,” “support of corporate values,” “age,” “qualifications,” and “interpersonal skills.” In order to enter “ready, but need development,” two more required selection criteria, “risk of leaving” and “job challenge,” are needed. “Development orientated” and “competence” are needed to meet with the requirement as the potential talent successor.

Abstract:
97
Due to the development and application of information technologies (IT) , business management styles have been changing dramatically. Regardless the business type, now, information systems are playing much important roles in business than ever before. Several information service factors, such as usability, reliability, security and efficiency, also become important. For IT departments, there need a proper performance measurement. Many companies have used Service Level Agreement (SLA) as a tool and guides helping IT departments to set down and to direct their efforts. However, there is no standard method on how to develop the service level index (SLI). In this thesis, we present our study on how to build the SLI. Our research is a case study based on an electronic equipment manufacture company. First, the SLIs are developed based on Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). Second, we use Delphi method to select the most proper indices for the company. Third, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used to set the priorities of those indices. Finally, the SLAs of the top ten indices are settled.

Abstract:
96
The performance evaluation of the claims department in the non-life insurance companies has been conducted by employing the traditional financial measurement. Yet it is incompatible to the realities. This thesis therefore tries to look for new methods so that the claims personnel may have positive encouragement and appropriate feedback. Hopefully, both the insurance companies and the claims department personnel can benefit from the new methods. This study provides the case study of the new performance evaluation for the claims department with the Balanced Scorecard and legal provisions of risk management. Through “Vision Transformation”, “Communication and Harmonization”, “Business Planning”, and “Feedback and Learning”, strategic objectives are established from up to down, and yet are implemented from bottom to up in four perspectives: financial, customers, internal business process and learning and growth. Aligning daily business activities to the strategic objectives of the organization by using key performance indicators, an objective performance evaluation for the claims department of the non-life insurance companies is thus realized.

In recent years, global environmental protection awareness has been rising, plus the EU executive of environmental regulations, such as WEEE and ROHS. Environmental protection factors must be incorporated in the supplier selection. When Manufacturers try to enhance their competitiveness and increase profits, they reduce the lead time and focus on keeping their costs down and at the same time, comply with environmental regulations and deliver the product to the client to achieve customer satisfaction, so a win-win situation can be achieved between the manufacturing supplier and the buyer, which is a very big issue. This study archive both foreign and domestic scholars who provided the Supplier Selection Criteria. There are four selection facets and seventeen items of selection criteria in the metal products manufacturing Industry to establish a green supplier. Using the analytic hierarchy process to determine the right weight values among the selection factors. The results show that among these four selection facets “technology and process effectiveness” is the most important , secondary ,it's the "Business construction and competitiveness ", thirdly, it's "Quality Management System" and finally, it's " Environmental management evaluation". And the selection criteria of "technical capability" is the most important, second are "technical support effectiveness" and "sale price".For the case of T company who use the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution method to evaluate these three metal product suppliers as an example, to get on the list of suppliers and then a final decision can be made. Finally, they will give the reference and recommendation of which green supplier should be selected.

Full text
Abstract:
107
Because of the influence of globalization and market liberalization, manufacturers are no longer only threatened by local competitors, but also face challenges from all over the world. In order to survive in this highly competitive market, the traditional transactional marketing approach has proved inadequate, and many manufacturers have begun to use the relationship marketing approach to adapt to the current rapidly changing business environment. However, it will be very costly for manufacturers to implement relationship marketing for all customers, and more resources should be invested in their “key customers”. Although a lot of foreign literature has already focused on how to manage key customers, there is relatively little domestic concern on this topic. In addition, the maturity of the technology and operational capabilities of Chinese local companies has gradually reduced the competitive advantages of Taiwanese companies in the Chinese market. In the face of such a drastic environment, how to consolidate China's local market and establish long-term cooperative relationships with key customers is a key issue for Taiwanese companies. Therefore, this study selected a successful Taiwanese tinplate can coating manufacturer as a case study object. Through in-depth interviews with the manufacturer, literature review and theoretical analysis tools (4C Strategic Marketing Analysis Model), the results present how Taiwanese companies can establish long-term and stable relationships with key customers in the Chinese market. This study anticipates that the research results will provide the strategic thinking that Taiwanese companies should have when managing key customers, enabling them to occupy a stronger position in the Chinese market.
