Abstract:
Professor Ruti Teitel, author of Humanity's Law, is perhaps best known for her foundational work on the concept of transitional justice. She is a proven norm entrepreneur. Her development of the concept of transitional justice demonstrates her ability to detect progress for those victimized by atrocities. It also demonstrates her skill in developing responses to those atrocities. Transitional justice, as Teitel envisioned it, has an ambitious agenda as a ‘conception of justice associated with periods of political change, characterized by legal responses to confront the wrongdoings of repressive predecessor regimes’. That said, transitional justice in its original conception has a specific focus, limited by time and circumstance. Those limits are in part responsible for its success as a concept and practice.

Abstract:
Causality has never gained the status of a ‘law’ or ‘principle’ in physics. Some recent literature has even popularized the false idea that causality is a notion that should be banned from theory. Such misconception relies on an alleged universality of the reversibility of the laws of physics, based either on the determinism of classical theory, or on the multiverse interpretation of quantum theory, in both cases motivated by mere interpretational requirements for realism of the theory. Here, I will show that a properly defined unambiguous notion of causality is a theorem of quantum theory, which is also a falsifiable proposition of the theory. Such a notion of causality appeared in the literature within the framework of operational probabilistic theories. It is a genuinely theoretical notion, corresponding to establishing a definite partial order among events, in the same way as we do by using the future causal cone on Minkowski space. The notion of causality is logically completely independent of the misidentified concept of ‘determinism’, and, being a consequence of quantum theory, is ubiquitous in physics. In addition, as classical theory can be regarded as a restriction of quantum theory, causality holds also in the classical case, although the determinism of the theory trivializes it. I then conclude by arguing that causality naturally establishes an arrow of time. This implies that the scenario of the ‘block Universe’ and the connected ‘past hypothesis’ are incompatible with causality, and thus with quantum theory: they are both doomed to remain mere interpretations and, as such, are not falsifiable, similar to the hypothesis of ‘super-determinism’. This article is part of a discussion meeting issue ‘Foundations of quantum mechanics and their impact on contemporary society’.

Abstract:
In this article, I explore what RT’s unusually open-ended project commemorating the centenary of the Russian Revolution - #1917Live – tells us about its tendentious, mainstream output. I adopt an epistemological framework locating meaning in the marginal and different rather than the normative and recurrent, treating this ‘un-RT like’ project’s components as multi-layered cultural texts to be interpreted rather than sociological data to be counted and coded. I read them through a hermeneutically inflected version of mediatisation theory. This theory’s central precept posits a fusion of media practices with those of politics and everyday life. An under-researched corollary of that precept is a short-circuiting of the ‘subject’ and ‘object’ of media representations. As well as influencing #1917Live’s emphasis on broadcaster-audience co-production, the short-circuiting effect foregrounds the modality of those representations – their truth claims and the subjectivities attached to the realities they depict. In analysing this effect, I highlight (1) #1917Live’s chronotopic intertwining of past and present; (2) its ‘event-ness’: the sense that it constitutes a news story in its own right and (3) the ludic elements modalising its commemorative narratives by according them a distinctive ironic voice which re-establishes distance between ‘subject’ and ‘object’. Linked to a late Soviet cultural phenomenon known as ‘ stiob’, such features render #1917Live reflexive, carnivalesque and deeply dialogic, realigning it with RT’s disruptive mainstream output and constituting a new kind of ‘media event’. They indicate that RT’s scandalous, ‘pariah’ reputation is internalised within a fragmented institutional identity key to the entire ‘information war’ dynamic.

This dissertation intends to describe how small Swedish companies experience the handling of financing in China. Which include describing how small Swedish companies have chosen to finance their establishment, and whether Myers Pecking order theory is applicable. Further more, to show the inquired companies attitude towards external equity, and if any problems are experienced, connected to reaching long-term external finance. The specifikation of the problem for this dissertation is, How do small Swedish companies established in China experience the handling of financing? And to answer the specification of the problem a quantitative approach has been used. The data was gathered through a survey sent out to a number of small Swedish companies established in China. The definition of small Swedish companies has been set to less than 100 employees, and furthermore, established in China under any of the entry modes WFOE, FICE, Joint Venture or Rep/Sales Office.

The over all conclusions for this dissertation, are that internal finance is preferred, and in general is the use of external finance insignificant among small Swedish companies established in China. What can be concluded from this is that Myers Pecking order theory is applicable. Further more, there are strong indications that the inquired companies do not experience any financial gap, or in general any imminent problems surrounding reaching external finance. Important to add to the conclusion is that just because there are no imminent problems, does this not signify that companies do not experience any problems at all reaching external finance.

Abstract:
The technological revolution, along with the global economy structural changes and their financial constrains pushed several countries to perform profound reforms in the telecommunication industry. These changes included the industry gradual liberalization, the formation of a regulatory body and the privatization.Within this context, the companies struggled fiercely and went seeking core competencies to thrive in their competitive landscape. This isolated search led to an intense and costly effort made by the companies. In this sense, the formation of alliances and networks so as to obtain competitive advantages became a reality, which currently presents itself with several features, according to previously defined strategic goals. The main purpose of this research is to evaluate the strategic impacts, in the corporate level, of alliances and networks established by Embratel, Oi, Vivo and TIM, in order to contribute to their competitive advantage in a global environment. Thus, it was adopted the Yin (2005) case study methodology, with the strategy of methods triangulation, which is based on the documental investigation, on the perceptions raising applying structured questionnaires, as well as the complementary perceptions gathered through interviews. The data were analyzed based on the literature review of theoretical sources, aided by a documental gathering and by a set of proposed analytical tools: the integrated standard model of Macedo-Soares (2000) to analyze the organizational factors and the model SNA (MACEDO-SOARES, 2002) to relationship analysis. The conclusion drawn from the study was that the strategic alliances and networks analysis aggregate value to the traditional analysis adding valuable insights to the decision making in the corporate realm. The result of this research can be summarized on the strategic fit, where the organizational factors capitalize the strengths, reduce the weaknesses, thereby exploring the opportunities and minimizing the threats.

In the work, the social conditionality of criminal liability for such actions was distinguished and analyzed, the content and the peculiarities of the analyzed crimes components were considered. The features of criminological characteristics of such crimes were investigated, as well as the persons, who committed it. The attention was drawn to two groups of indicators (“external” and “internal” features), reflecting the analyzed type of criminal behaviour, as a social practice, in the field of illegal transplantations and blood donation. A system approach and the doctrine of system determination were applied to define the peculiarities of determining the given type of criminal behaviour. The shortcomings of medical care and organizing control in the field of transplantology were separately distinguished, as well as the cases of organizing corresponding “criminal business” in medical institutions. Reasonable ways of increasing the efficiency of combating crimes of such type were suggested.

Abstract:
Introduction Web Services is a relatively new concept to distributed data systems. It provides a new way for companies to easily integrate with other companies. With UDDI, companies are able to host their services in a wider market and also connect to other companies. However, with business expansion also follows trust issues. In order to share Web Services in a business partner relationship it is necessary to have a relation of trust. Purpose The purpose of this thesis is to investigate about this issue, i.e. how Web Services with the use of UDDI can be made as a “network of trust” and additionally obtain an idea about how the use of these two will look like in the future. The question of trust between partners sharing Web Services is still open. There has therefore been an interest to look at this problem. The aim for this thesis is to find possible solutions that can be used to address the problem. Method To investigate this we chose to do a literature study and continue with a survey consisted by interviews and questionnaires. Interviews were used to find which solutions that are available in reality and the questionnaires provide information about to what extent Web services and the found solutions are used. The questionnaire was done on random Swedish companies and was sent by e-mails. The interviews were done on two global Swedish companies, Volvo and Ericsson. This way information was found and could be compared in how the issue is dealt with in the literature and what is actually done in reality. Conclusion The outcome of the entire investigation is that Web Services today, even though it exists in most companies, is still in testing phase. As for this, the use of UDDI has had little attention and so has the issues regarding trust. The solution we found to the most applicable to create a network of trust is the Liberty Alliance Project. Web Services, UDDI, trust

Abstract:
Title: Using Brand management to establish network relations: How SMEs can work with brand management in order to establish and develop corporate reputation and legitimacy in network relations in a B2B context Authors: Aasberg Pipirs Julius & Carlsson Christoffer Level: Master thesis, 30hp Keywords: Brand management, SME, Legitimacy, Corporate reputation, Network relations Background: Given the crucial role SMEs play in the modern society it is vital that knowledge is evolved that can be used to support and grow these businesses. Using brand management practices SMEs could establish and develop corporate reputation and legitimacy in network relations, which could result in higher chances of long-term survival in a B2B context. Research Question: How does working with brand management among SMEs establish, and develop, corporate reputation and legitimacy, and how do these three concepts affect the process of establishing network relations in a B2B context? Purpose: The purpose of this study is to first investigate how SMEs, in a B2B context, work with brand management and how this can establish and develop corporate reputation and legitimacy. Finally the authors wants to see how these three concepts affect the process of establishing network relations. Method: Based on an abductive research approach, a qualitative research method will be used to study six Swedish SMEs that operate in a B2B context. Primary data will be based on semi-structured interviews with managers at each company. Theoretical Framework: The current literature concerning SME brand management is presented followed by its linkages towards establishing and developing corporate reputation and legitimacy. Finally previous research concerning, the process of establishing network relations among SMEs, its relevance for SMEs, and how brand management, corporate reputation, and legitimacy could affect this process, is presented. Findings & Conclusions: Brand management offers SMEs the tools to communicate and interact with various types of stakeholders, which connects the organization to its external and internal environment. By combining this tool with a dedication of always performing above expectations, SMEs stands to efficiently establish and develop corporate reputation and legitimacy. These two constructs essentially acts as the foundation of that which network relations are built upon.

朱思頻. "An order distinction perspective to establish Advanced Planning and Scheduling in the Supply Chain." Thesis, 2002. http://ndltd.ncl.edu.tw/handle/38684310986038483404.

Full text
Abstract:
碩士
國立屏東科技大學
工業管理系
90
A supply chain model has extended from intra-firm resource planning to inter-firm resource planning to cope with global competition in the current business environment. In this evolution, the application of information technology allows the upper- and the down-stream supply chain enterprises to share and coordinate the production and the demand information. Thus, the integrated resource planning ability of a supply chain can be increased by evaluating the overall supply chain performance. That is, the resource planning and scheduling problems should consider both multiple supply resources and multiple demand information, simultaneously, to avoid bullwhip effect in current supply chain environment. In this aspect, the Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) has been developed and applied in situations that face multiple supply-demand planning environments. The APS is a real-time scheduling technique that provides the scheduler to ensure, in advance, the feasibility and the performance of a supply chain resource allocation assignment. Most of the existing research regarding to the APS system discussed either the hierarchy of the scheduling system or a mathematic model to allocate the supply resources. Few were exploring the effects of order distinction to the scheduling performance. Therefore, this research aims to establish an APS system of the supply chain from an order distinction perspective. The proposed APS system, first, applies the grey-relation analysis approach to perform the multi-objective order sequencing, followed by the scheduling of resource allocation. In the stage of order sequencing, the distinction of each order is attributed to three dimensions: order due-date, customer importance, and order value. The output of order sequencing is then input to the scheduling system for resource allocation among the suppliers in the supply chain. Then, the effects of order distinction to the APS performance are discussed. Moreover, the performance of the scheduling system that applies the mathematic model is compared with that applies the grey-relation analysis technique. Finally, discussions are provided to the APS schedulers in selecting an appropriate planning and scheduling approach that meets the supply chain objective.

Abstract:
Abstract Partial-order reduction (POR) is a well-established technique to combat the problem of state-space explosion. We propose POR techniques that are sound for parity games, a well-established formalism for solving a variety of decision problems. As a consequence, we obtain the first POR method that is sound for model checking for the full modal $$\mu $$-calculus. Our technique is applied to, and implemented for the fixed point logic called parameterised Boolean equation systems, which provides a high-level representation of parity games. Experiments indicate that substantial reductions can be achieved.

Abstract:
AbstractIn model checking, partial-order reduction (POR) is an effective technique to reduce the size of the state space. Stubborn sets are an established variant of POR and have seen many applications over the past 31 years. One of the early works on stubborn sets shows that a combination of several conditions on the reduction is sufficient to preserve stutter-trace equivalence, making stubborn sets suitable for model checking of linear-time properties. In this paper, we identify a flaw in the reasoning and show with a counter-example that stutter-trace equivalence is not necessarily preserved. We propose a solution together with an updated correctness proof. Furthermore, we analyse in which formalisms this problem may occur. The impact on practical implementations is limited, since they all compute a correct approximation of the theory.

Abstract:
Abstract This study aims to establish near wall resolution requirements for wall-resolved Large Eddy Simulations (LES) using the Flux Reconstruction / Correction Procedure via Reconstruction (FR/CPR) method. The FR/CPR method is relatively new and its numerical capabilities for LES are not well established. A high-order unstructured LES solver (GENESIS) based on the FR/CPR approach is used to study two canonical near wall turbulent flow problems. The first problem concerns spatial development of a turbulent flat plate boundary layer. The grid resolution requirement for various polynomial orders is established and the skin-friction and near wall turbulence is compared to theory and Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) results. The second problem studied is the two-dimensional wall film case of Kacker and Whitelaw (1968, 1969). This is a thermal mixing problem consisting of a two-dimensional jet for various mass flow ratios and plate thicknesses. This study focuses on one of the cases from this data set, corresponding to a thick plate. Well resolved LES simulations show an excellent agreement with measured adiabatic film effectiveness. The effect of polynomial order and grid resolution is investigated and near wall resolution requirements are established.

To get a building permit is a lengthy process involving a series of review and verification phases by the con- sultants and by the authorities and their agents. The work processes are, nowadays, governed by a large de- gree of individualistic work performances.

In order to facilitate a BIM-based building permit application, which exclusively uses the model and ist data as ist sole base of information, we analyzed traditional processes in the phase of issuing a building permit. This allows to restructure the steps of designing a building according to all required criteria and, step by step, remodel for the application of automated processes.

The facilitation of authorization processes will lead to checking machines which will already be applied by the consultants. Nevertheless, authorities need a secure way to evaluate the quality of the specific design in every regard.

For this purpose, we show how to combine different algorithms to check on the quality criteria for a building permit. There are qualitative criteria but also quantitative boundaries and also some nice-to-have items which can be compensated by alternative measures.

Abstract:
Out of straightness upheaval buckling (OOS UHB) assessment considers the pipeline design and operational parameters, post-lay survey data and the properties of back-fill and rock in order to determine load and resistance factors that are applied. The factors allow for the natural variation of all parameters and are ultimately used to determine the download requirements along the route of a pipeline that is susceptible to UHB. Two methods are most commonly used in OOS UHB assessments. The structural reliability analysis (SRA) method is the most established and explicitly considers the variation of parameters in a Monte-Carlo simulation, enabling load and resistance factors to be calculated with a defined reliability level. A more recently developed methodology is documented in DNV-RP-F110 and provides a unified approach to the calculation of safety factors. The approach was calibrated using structural reliability based methods, undertaken with target reliability levels that are compliant with DNV-OS-F101. This paper presents a review of two key components of OOS UHB assessments. These components are the accuracy of post-lay survey data and the load resistance factor calculation method. These components are reviewed in the context of SRA and DNV-RP-F110 based assessments for a range of pipeline sizes, and ranges of soil and operational parameters. This enables characterisation of the differences between the two methodologies for ranges of design parameters that represent the majority of in-field flowlines that are installed in the United kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS). SRA and DNV-RP-F110 derived load and resistance factors are compared and the effect of survey data smoothing upon rock-dump requirements is also discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract A vehicle track model is developed with the objective of providing new capabilities in modeling track vibration response. Understanding track vibration is essential to evaluating the durability of track components, the vibration energy transmitted to the vehicle, and the acoustic emission from the vehicle. A new element model is derived herein that represents a track span as a continuous elastic member with distributed inertia. This model captures the effects of static track sag. static and dynamic track tension, track translation speed, and the coupling of longitudinal and transverse track vibration. Results from a companion experimental study on a section of track support the use of this continuum approximation. The track element model is extended to describe an entire track circuit for an example military vehicle. An eigenanalysis of this circuit model leads to the system vibration modes that are subsequently employed in a low-order model for forced response. The forced response characteristics resulting from two major excitation sources, roadarm motion and polygonal action, are described. The modal content of the track response is then examined to determine the minimum size model required to describe track vibration. It is concluded that low-order system models may be developed as efficient alternatives to established large degree-of-freedom multi-body track models.

Abstract:
Abstract In order to make robot manipulators work more compliantly when contacting with the environment, it is necessary to reduce the contact force caused by positioning errors. One effective way to solve this problem is impedance control, which makes the robot manipulator a second-order mass-spring-damping system in principle. In this paper, a position-based fractional-order impedance control design method is proposed for the robot manipulator force control. The end-effector/environment contact model is established, and the closed-loop system is analyzed with the reference force as input. A fractional-order impedance parameters design method is proposed for better force-control performance, which calculates and optimizes parameters through frequency-domain specifications (i.e., phase margin and gain crossover frequency) and time-domain specification (i.e., the minimum JITSE). With the Robotics ToolBox for MATLAB (RTB), the performance comparison between integer-order and fractional-order impedance controls is illustrated in simulation. The fractional-order impedance control system has a faster response, smaller overshoot, and better resistance to external disturbances from the environment.

Abstract:
The dominant physical phenomena in hydraulic drives are generally well known, why the model equations describing the dominant dynamics may be established with a high level of certainty. To some extend, this is also the case for the model parameters when these are based on data sheet information. However, parameters such as the effective bulk modulus, leakage, external disturbances etc. may be difficult to evaluate, and may furthermore be varying. In regard to control design, linear methods may be difficult to apply and stability margins difficult to evaluate, unless dynamic models are established prior to the control design. This problem may be overcome using adaptive controllers, adjusting themselves to uncertainties/variations. This often shifts the problem from adjusting the controller parameters, to adjusting the parameters of the control parameter adaption mechanism, which in many cases involves a significant number of parameters. This paper considers a novel adaptive control algorithm, theoretically applicable to systems of arbitrary orders, and potentially only with three tuning parameters. The proposed algorithm is considered in relation to the position control of a hydraulic winch drive, and results imply that excellent motion tracking performance may be achieved utilizing only state feedback.

Abstract:
This paper presents a new method for determining whether an RR dyad will pass through a set of finitely separated positions in order. Several established solution methods have been previously documented for this problem. This method utilizes only the displacement poles in the fixed frame to assess in an intuitive fashion whether a selected fixed pivot location will result in an ordered dyad solution. A line passing through the selected fixed pivot is rotated one-half revolution about the fixed pivot, in a manner similar to a propeller with infinitely long blades, to sweep the entire plane. Order is established by tracking the sequence of the displacement poles intersected by the rotating line. With four or five positions, fixed pivot locations corresponding to dyads having any specified order are readily found. Five-position problems can be directly evaluated to determine if any ordered solutions exist, and degenerate cases of four positions for which the set of fixed pivots corresponding to ordered dyads collapses to a single point on the center point curve can be identified.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Linear analysis and Monte Carlo simulation are two well-established methods for statistical tolerance analysis of mechanical assemblies. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. The Linearized Method, a form of linear analysis, provides fast analysis, tolerance allocation, and the capability to solve closed loop constraints. However, the Linearized Method does not accurately approximate nonlinear geometric effects or allow for non-normally distributed input or output distributions. Monte Carlo simulation, on the other hand, does accurately model nonlinear effects and allow for non-normally distributed input and output distributions. Of course, Monte Carlo simulation can be computationally expensive and must be re-run when any input variable is modified. The second-order tolerance analysis (SOTA) method attempts to combine the advantages of the Linearized Method with the advantages of Monte Carlo simulation. The SOTA method applies the Method of System Moments to implicit variables of a system of nonlinear equations. The SOTA method achieves the benefits of speed, tolerance allocation, closed-loop constraints, non-linear geometric effects and non-normal input and output distributions. The SOTA method offers significant benefits as a nonlinear analysis tool suitable for use in design iteration. A comparison was performed between the Linearized Method, Monte Carlo simulation, and the SOTA method. The SOTA method provided a comparable nonlinear analysis to Monte Carlo simulation with 106 samples. The analysis time of the SOTA method was comparable to the Linearized Method.

Abstract:
The objectives of this proposal were (1) to develop early age short-term restrict feeding protocols which eliminate the incidence of TD without compromising market weight performance and (2) monitor the components of the PTH/PTHrP cascade in conjunction with the development of the protocols in Objective 1. In this investigation it was established that changes in gene expression associated with TD occur as early as 13 days of age. This means that management strategies for the control of this disease must be established during the initial two weeks of rearing. In order to determine a focus for these management strategies, attempts were made to identify the metabolic defect responsible for tibial dyschondroplasia. Therefore, the parathyroid hormone/parathyrod related peptide (PTH/PTHrP) cascade of events was investigated. This emphasis was based on the fact that many nutritional factors that influence TD could be operating through this system. Secondly, the receptor for these peptides acts as the gatekeeper of chondrocyte differentiation. Examination of many aspects of this cascade led to the conclusion that TD is not the direct result of perturbation of this PTH/PTHrP receptor but is likely to develop from an interruption of a pathway downstream from this receptor.

Abstract:
The emergence of modern complex systems is often exacerbated by a proliferation of information and complication of technologies. Because current complex systems challenges can limit an organization's ability to efficiently handle socio-technical systems, it is essential to provide methods and techniques that count on individuals' systems skills. When selecting future employees, companies must constantly refresh their recruitment methods in order to find capable candidates with the required level of systemic skills who are better fit for their organization's requirements and objectives. The purpose of this study is to use systems thinking skills as a supplemental selection tool when recruiting prospective employees. To the best of our knowledge, there is no prior research that studied the use of systems thinking skills for recruiting purposes. The proposed framework offers an established tool to HRM professionals for assessing and screening of prospective employees of an organization based on their level of systems thinking skills while controlling uncertainties of complex decision-making environment with the fuzzy linguistic approach. This framework works as an expert system to find the most appropriate candidate for the organization to enhance the human capital for the organization.

Abstract:
A total of 195 microsatellites were added to the chicken genome map. Mapping of fifty known genes revealed a high degree of conserved linkage order between human and chicken genomes. A new, statistically powerful mapping design, the full-sib intercross line (produced by mating two parents, and intercrossing their progeny over a number of generations), was developed for use in species with high reproductive capacity. The Jerusalem Resource Population (JRP), now at the F12 generation, was established to implement this design i chickens. The biometrical picutre in the JRP is similar to that generally found in chicken populations; inbreeding effects were not observed. The F2 and F3 generations of the JRP were genotyped with respect to twelve production traits, using a battery of 23 microsatellites markers. The number of significant effects was twice that expected on chance alone, validating the high statistical power of the JRP with respect to QTL differentiating the parental lines. Selective DNA pooling, based on estimation of marker allele frequencies in pooled DNA samples, has been proposed to reduce high genotyping costs of QTL mapping. A method to correct for overlapping shadow bands of dinucleotide microsatellite markers in pooled DNA samples was developed and validated. In a retrospective study using this procedure, previously mapped loci affecting Marek's disease were successfully identified.
