Abstract:
Today, the doctrine of synonyms has been separated into an independent section of linguistics and a corresponding science - synonymy. The problem of synonymy is not only a lexicological problem. Its various aspects attracted the attention not only of language researchers, but also of other sciences, primarily philosophy, semiotics, and psychology. There was a need to understand the results and facts substantiated by these sciences, which leads to an understanding of the multifaceted nature of synonymy, its relationship with various aspects of language and communication. Thirdly, theoretical interest in the problems of synonymy was conditioned by lexicological practice. However, insufficient study of the patterns of speech "behavior" (functioning) of stylistic synonyms and the problem of distinguishing linguistic and speech synonymy belong to the unresolved problems. Such problems are relevant not only in a theoretical, but also in a practical sense. Proceeding from the word, its semantic and stylistic connections and the ability to form established formulas, to reveal the inner form through the possibilities of word formation, associative, contextual relations, the characteristic linguistic and typological features of poetry are revealed, the structure, content, and peculiarities of the functioning of linguistic and aesthetic signs of Ukrainian culture are revealed. They are cross-cutting (key) verbal images that cause the creation of author's contextual synonymous series, lexical-semantic variants of words. From a linguistic point of view, lexical synonymy is a semantic phenomenon based on the opposition of words. A strong position for synonyms is the position of their joint use in the context of the same subject or phenomenon of reality. A weak position is considered to be the position of interchange of synonyms in the context that conveys their common meaning in order to increase the speed of information transfer per unit of time, when the difference between the components of lexical meanings is not actualized due to their irrelevance for the communication process. Thus, the linguistic mechanism that establishes the synonymy or non-synonymity of relations is the neutralization of their lexical meanings.

Abstract:
The research is devoted to the consideration of the paradigmatic aspect of All-Russian nouns based on the material of the Arkhangelsk’s sub-dialects. We consider All-Russian nouns with rich polysemy in the Arkhangelsk’s sub-dialects, which have a large number of semantic equivalents in relation to bilateral implication. In lexical synonymy, homonymy of Russian sub-dialects, along with distinctive features, there are many similarities with synonymy, homonymy in the vocabulary of the literary language. It is established that All-Russian nouns have large synonymic series defined by language units, which are in the relationship of semantic juxtaposition. In the dialect system, as well as in the literary language, each lexical meaning has its own set of synonyms, which confirms a certain connection of synonymy with polysemy, in other words, a certain connection between paradigmatic relations and the semantic structure of the word is obvious. It is proved that in the dialect system the synonymic chain expands due to the nominations of species branches. In this study we discover characteristic detailing fixing an object, the phenomenon with a different set of concrete distinctive signs that creates certain conditions for rich synonymy.

Abstract Objective In a biomedical literature search, the link between a query and a document is often not established, because they use different terms to refer to the same concept. Distributional word embeddings are frequently used for detecting related words by computing the cosine similarity between them. However, previous research has not established either the best embedding methods for detecting synonyms among related word pairs or how effective such methods may be. Materials and Methods In this study, we first create the BioSearchSyn set, a manually annotated set of synonyms, to assess and compare 3 widely used word-embedding methods (word2vec, fastText, and GloVe) in their ability to detect synonyms among related pairs of words. We demonstrate the shortcomings of the cosine similarity score between word embeddings for this task: the same scores have very different meanings for the different methods. To address the problem, we propose utilizing pool adjacent violators (PAV), an isotonic regression algorithm, to transform a cosine similarity into a probability of 2 words being synonyms. Results Experimental results using the BioSearchSyn set as a gold standard reveal which embedding methods have the best performance in identifying synonym pairs. The BioSearchSyn set also allows converting cosine similarity scores into probabilities, which provides a uniform interpretation of the synonymy score over different methods. Conclusions We introduced the BioSearchSyn corpus of 1000 term pairs, which allowed us to identify the best embedding method for detecting synonymy for biomedical search. Using the proposed method, we created PubTermVariants2.0: a large, automatically extracted set of synonym pairs that have augmented PubMed searches since the spring of 2019.

Abstract:
Purpose of the study: This study is undertaken to identify the similarities and differences of synonymous relations in the medical terminology of English, Russian and Tatar languages.
 Methodology: To identify the common and special in the compared languages, a comparative method is used. The basis of comparison in the medical terminology of genetically unrelated languages was established. In this study, the method of feature comparison was used, i.e. the phenomenon of synonymy was studied in a comparative aspect.
 Main Findings: The results of this study contribute to the selection of the correct, appropriate synonym for the term when translating into medical texts. Comparative analysis of three languages in the matter of synonyms in medical terminology has shown that English and Russian languages have more similarities than English and Tatar ones and Russian and Tatar ones.
 Application of the study: This study is of great importance in compiling dictionaries. At the same time, it will help students of the medicine faculty with the translation of medical texts, taking into account the peculiarities of the synonymy of terms in each language.
 Novelty: The synonymy in the medical terminology of genetically unrelated languages, in particular, English and Tatar languages, Russian and Tatar languages has not been studied to date in a comparative aspect.

Plagiohammus Dillon & Dillon, 1941 is considered a junior synonym of Hammatoderus Gemminger & Harold, 1873. Four new species are described: Hammatoderus juliae, from Colombia; H. migueli and H. antonkozlovi, from Ecuador; and H. lingafelteri, from Mexico. Hammoderus spinipennis Thomson, 1860, and Hammoderus quadriplagiatus Breuning, 1943 are placed as junior synonyms of Hammoderus thoracicus White, 1858 (= Hammatoderus thoracicus). Consequently, Hammatoderus jacobyi Nonfried, 1894, synonym of H. spinipennis, is also a junior synonym of H. thoracicus. The synonymy between Hammoderus strandi Breuning, 1943 and Plagiohammus olivescens Dillon & Dillon, 1941 is formally established. Plagiohammus mexicanus Breuning, 1950 is provisionally transferred to Monochamus Dejean, 1821, and the type locality is questioned. Recent changes to the generic classification of Megachilini necessitate several nomenclatural changes for species of the tribe. Four specific epithets were considered junior homonyms in a retrograde classification of Megachile Latreille and were therefore renamed. In this study, novelties are proposed for taxa that have solitary inflorescences belonging to the genera Beauverdia and Nothoscordum. All taxa studied occur in the Campos eco-region, mainly in Uruguay and neighbors. Beauverdia Sellowiana is recognized as a synonym of Beauverdia hirtella. Beauverdia Felipponei is rehabilitated from the synonymy of B. Sellowiana, and a lectotype is proposed for this species. Beauverdia subsessilis is recognized as a distinct species from B. hirtella and Nothoscordum Izaguirreae is added to its synonymy. Nothoscordum Ostenii is established as a valid species, being added to the Brazilian and Argentine flora, and Nothoscordum luteominus is added to its synonymy. All listed species are described and illustrated, and information on geographic distribution, habitat and taxonomic relationships is inferred.

This article discusses the terms used in medieval text sources to denote the Hussites. It pays particular atten-tion to the nominal phrase Bohemi heretici arguing that its lexeme constituents functioned in fifteenth-cen-tury Latin as synonyms. A more detailed examination focuses on types of synonymy established between two mentioned lexemes. The terms contextual synonymy and partial synonymy are used here. In addition, the importance of connotative meaning is pointed out as a criterion for analysing the usage of lexemes refer-ring to Bohemia and the Bohemian people in the context of the Hussite heresy. The study is based on let-ters written by Polish secular and ecclesiastical chanceries as well as those written to Polish sovereigns and dignitaries by their foreign correspondents. In addition, the “Annals”of Jan Długosz are taken into account.

Subgeneric classification of Chrysodema Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1835 is revised and following synonymy is established: Chrysodema=Cyalithoides Fisher, 1922 syn. nov.; Pseudochrysodema Saunders, 1874=Leganya Hołyński, 1994 syn. nov.,=Marcsikiella Hołyński, 2014 syn. nov. Four subgenera are recognized as valid: Chrysodema s. str., Gelaeus Waterhouse, 1905, Pseudochrysodema Saunders, 1874, and Thymedes Waterhouse, 1905, and a key to the subgenera is given. Four species-groups are established in the subgenus Chrysodema s. str.: C. aeneoviolacea-group, C. aurostriata-group, C. eximia-group, and C. sonnerati-group. All known species, except the currently accepted synonyms of Chrysodema (Chrysodema) eximia Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1835, included in these groups are revised based on comparative study of extensive material including types of all described taxa. Three new species and one subspecies are described: Chrysodema (Chrysodema) dany sp. nov. from Haruku Island, Indonesia; C. (C.) gottwaldi sp. nov. from Palawan Island, Philippines; C. Abstract:
The taxonomic history and position of the genera Euboeus and Probaticus within the tribe Helopini are discussed. A new synonymy, based on morphological characters is established: Euboeus Boieldieu, 1865 = Probaticus (s. str.) Seidlitz, 1896, syn. n. As a result, 67 new combinations (from Probaticus to Euboeus) are estabished for all species formerly placed in Probaticus. A review of Euboeus s. str. with four species (Balkanian-Anatolian E. mimonti Boieldieu, 1865 and E. tentyrioides (Küster, 1851), Greek E. mori (Brullé, 1832), and Anatolian E. parvostriatus sp. n.) is given. Three new synonyms are established for Euboeus tentyrioides (= Micispa bysantica Motschulsky, 1858, syn. n.; = Micispa pyraei Motschulsky, 1858, syn. nov.; = Micispa graeca Motschulsky, 1858, syn. n.). The forgotten name Helops (Euboeus) parvicollis Baudi di Selve, 1876, nomen oblitum (junior synonym of E. tentyrioides) is discussed. A lectotype is designated for Helops tentyrioides. A key to the four species within the revised Euboeus sensu stricto, along with distributions and images, is provided.

Abstract:
The Red Sea has five species of the apogonid genus Fowleria, including F. isostigma, a Pacific Ocean species not yet known from the western Indian Ocean proper. Previously, F. isostigma was placed in the synonymy of F. punctulata (Rüppell 1838). However, the taxonomic status of the latter has not been established and in previous works it was placed in the synonymy of F. aurita or F. variegata. This paper compares Red Sea specimens identified as F. isostigma with F. variegata and with the type specimens of F. punctulata. The presence of F. isostigma in the Red Sea is established and F. punctulata is confirmed as a junior synonym of F. variegata. The holotype of F. punctulata is identified by the size given in the original description. A key to the Red Sea species of Fowleria is provided.

This paper is dedicated to the studies of syntactical synonymy as one of kinds of periphrasing in the dichotomy language/ discourse and theory of mental kinetism. It is establishedthat in the process of transformation in language are formed the one basic (with one terminal chain) and two basic (with two or more terminal chains)synonymic periphrases of pivotal (primary) syntagm or proposition, that are actualized in discourse in the form of co(n)textually preferential options. On the bases of syntactical and semantic valence of elements of synonymic constructionsare defined the key lexemes of each option which form with peripheral lexical components certain models of synonymic derivational trees (nominal, verbal, adjectival etc.). As the result of studies the virtual terminal chains of discourse innovations-synonymic structures are reconstructed and the hierarchical and horizontal semantic and syntactical relations between them are established in the functional-semantic field of syntactical synonymy.

The Afrotropical ponerine ant genus Phrynoponera is revised and a worker-based key to species presented. Five species are recognised of which two (pulchella and transversa) are described as new. Two new junior synonyms of the type-species gabonensis are established (armata, heterodus) and earlier synonymy of some infraspecific taxa is confirmed. The genus is redefined, with diagnoses of all castes and sexes. New and important characters of the genus are discussed.

The objective of this study is to provide a detailed taxonomic resource for identifying and studying ants in the genus Pheidole that have established beyond their native ranges. There is an increasing need for systematists to study taxa of specific concern to 21<sup>st</sup> century environmental, food security and public health challenges. Systematics has an important role to play in both the theoretical and applied disciplines of invasion biology. Few invaders impact terrestrial ecosystems more than ants. Among the world's 100 worst invasive species is the cosmopolitan and highly destructive Pheidole megacephala (Fabricius). Accurate identification of P. megacephala is imperative for the success of screening, management and eradication programs designed to protect native ecosystems from the impacts of this destructive species. However, accurate identification of Pheidole species is difficult because of their taxonomic diversity, dimorphic worker caste and lack of taxonomic resources. Illustrated keys are included, along with the taxonomic history, taxonomic diagnoses, biological notes and risk statements for the 14 most invasive members of the genus. Global distribution maps based on over 14,000 specimen and literature records are presented for each species. These results of this work will facilitate identification of pest species, determination of climatic and habitat requirements, discovery of pest origins, horizon scanning and assessment of invasion pathways. The following new synonym is proposed, with the senior synonym listed first and the junior synonyms in parentheses: Pheidole indica Mayr (= P. teneriffana Forel, and its synonyms P. taina Aguayo and P. voeltzkowii Forel). Pheidole navigans Forel, stat. rev., stat. n. is removed from synonymy and elevated to species rank. It is proposed that records of P. moerens Forel outside of the Mesoamerica and the Caribbean refer instead to P. navigans or other heterospecific taxa in the P. flavens species complex. We propose that the names P. anastasii Emery and P. floridana Emery have been widely misapplied to North American outdoor records of P. bilimeki Mayr. It is suggested that the synonymy of P. lauta Wheeler be transferred from P. floridana Emery to P. bilimeki Mayr.

Examination of the holotype Tephritis kukunoria Hendel, 1927 shows it to belong in Trupanea Schrank, 1795, and the following synonymy is established: Trupanea kukunoria (Hendel, 1927), comb. n. = Trupanea pterostigma Wang, 1996, syn. n. With new records from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, T. conyzifoliae is shown to be a widespread species with distribution from West Europe to Siberia. Distribution maps are provided. The number of endemic Apiaceae species in Uzbekistan was reduced from 38 to 18 as a result of new records in neighboring countries or because of their placement into synonymy. The new combination Galagania involucrata is published. Three new synonyms are established: Galagania neglecta under G. involucrata, Vvedenskya pinnatifolia under Conioselinum tataricum, and Elaeosticta seravschanica under E. paniculata. Austinixa bragantina Coelho, 2005, described from Ilha Canela, Bragança, state of Pará, Brazil, is established as a junior synonym of A. aidae (Righi, 1967) based on morphological (gross morphology and scanning electron microscopy) and molecular (16S rRNA mitochondrial marker) evidence. The phylogenetic tree was obtained through the Maximum Likelihood method aiming to contextualize A. bragantina among related species. We provide a redescription, an updated synonymy, and remarks on the intra-specific morphological variability of A. aidae to clarify some taxonomic inconsistencies previously reported. Austinixa hardyi Heard &amp; Manning, 1997, a species of uncertain taxonomic status, was confirmed genetically to also be a synonym of A. aidae.&#x0D;

The aim of the research is to determine the types, causes and patterns of frequency synonymy in the terminology of human viral diseases. The author analyzes two opposite views on the attitude of linguists toward terminological synonymy and further considers this phenomenon in relation to the terminology under study. The author identifies the types of synonymous terms and demonstrates the manifestation of term variation with examples. The scientific novelty of the research lies in taking a comprehensive approach to the study of synonymic relations within the terminology of human viral diseases, identifying the types of manifestation of variation of its units. The results of the study have shown that term variation is caused by the context or by the change of the speech situation. It has been established that the duplicity of terms is manifested by the influence of the Greek-Latin terminology and is caused by the process of term internationalization. The author notes the preservation of the functioning of obsolete terms in scientific discourse. The author attributes this synonymy to the lack of a systematic approach and consistency in the process of assigning new names to diseases, noting that alternative variants emerge during the process of nomination.

Apertochrysa Tjeder, 1966, is identified as a new senior subjective synonym of the large, subcosmopolitan, green lacewing genus currently known under the name Pseudomallada Tsukaguchi, 1995. Apertochrysa is rediagnosed and the taxonomic consequences of the new synonymy are reviewed. New combinations are created in Apertochrysa for 165 species formerly placed in Pseudomallada and for two species formerly placed in Mallada; three species are transferred from Pseudomallada back to previously-established combinations in Apertochrysa; and 13 additional species are retained in Apertochrysa from previous placements. This brings the total number of Apertochrysa species to 183.

Abstract:
This article focuses on certain word formation processes observed within the lexical-semantic group “Food” in Arkhangelsk dialects. The study presents dialectal material collected during numerous dialectological expeditions and preserved in the archive of the Department of Russian Language and Speech Culture at the Northern (Arctic) Federal University. The research demonstrates that in the vocabulary of Arkhangelsk dialects related to food, the substantivation of adjectives is not widely prevalent and is primarily represented in the thematic group “Baking.” However, the examples of substantivation discussed are characterized by the completion of the process, with the resulting substantives firmly established in the dialects. Additionally, numerous instances of derivational synonymy are found within the lexical-semantic group “Food.” The article examines two such examples: synonymic series of nouns denoting small dried fish and a dish made from cottage cheese with flour. It is revealed that Arkhangelsk dialects reflect characteristic phenomena of Russian dialects, such as developed suffixation, gender and number parallelism, and the formation of nouns with collective meanings. These processes contribute to a rich derivational synonymy that is absent in the standard Russian.

Uroxys punctatus, new species, is described from central Brazil based on taxonomic characters in the cephalic and pronotal punctations and in the male genitalia. A comparative diagnosis with U. epipleuralis (Boucomont, 1928), a morphologically similar species, is provided. A lectotype is designated for U. epipleuralis from a series of four syntypes. Uroxys thoracalis Balthasar, 1940 is newly established as a junior subjective synonym of U. epipleuralis, whereas the previously proposed synonymy between the latter and U. dureti Martínez, 1947 is confirmed. Both nomenclatural acts are based on the study of the respective type specimens. A detailed literature review, illustrations of diagnostic characters, and distributional data for each species are provided.

Information is provided for 143 objectively invalid or unavailable genus-group names used in Chrysididae; 34 are objectively invalid, of which 18 are junior homonyms (five of these are also currently junior subjective synonyms), 18 are junior objective synonyms (two of these are also junior homonyms) of which seven are unjustified emendations, and two are unnecessary replacement names. The remaining 109 names are unavailable; 96 are incorrect subsequent spellings, most of them were originally lapsus calami or misprints, one is hereby deemed to be an incorrect original spelling, eight are nomina nuda, three were originally published as junior synonyms and never adopted before 1961 as valid names of any taxa, and one is a vernacular name previously considered as valid. Gender, type species, taxonomic history and status are given for each name except for incorrect subsequent spellings and unjustified emendations. Some cases of homonymies with taxa currently classified as non-animal are discussed. For two such junior homonyms, denoting genus-group taxa considered as valid in the present work, new replacement names are proposed: Linsenmaierella Rosa &amp; Pavesi nom. nov. for Chrysidella Linsenmaier, nec Pascher; and Rhipidochrysis Rosa &amp; Pavesi nom. nov. for Pleurochrysis Bohart, nec Pringsheim. Abstract:
The author makes an attempt to clarify the basic conceptual apparatus – phraseological synonyms, a synonymic series – of verbal phraseological units with a subcategorical meaning of activity. The main research methods are the method of semantic identification, the method of component analysis, descriptive and analytical. It is established that the analyzed synonymous phraseological units form synonymous series, in the semantic structure of which there are such semantic features as the categorical meaning of an action (process), the subcategorical meaning of an activity, the integral seme of a concrete or abstract activity. Phraseological units-synonyms with the meaning of abstract activity-prevail. At the denotative level, phraseological synonyms cannot be interchanged in any context: differences in etymological images, unique internal form, diverse expressive and evaluative coloring exclude the possibility of adequate replacement. In the process of functioning, verbal phraseological units-synonyms have a complex interweaving of semantic, grammatical, and stylistic characteristics, which secures for them the position of partial interchangeability. The results obtained can be used in the theory and practice of lexicography and phraseography.

Abstract:
The subgenus Nudatoconnus Franz of Euconnus Thomson was established for a group of Neotropical species, but later this name was placed as a junior synonym of Pycnophus Casey; the type species of the latter taxon is Nearctic. Examination of the type series of Scydmaenus rasus LeConte (type species of Pycnophus) and Euconnus sphaerocephalus Franz (type species of Nudatoconnus) revealed that both taxa share strikingly similar general appearance, especially the shape of the head and pronotum and largely reduced dorsal setae, and many taxonomically important structures that may justify the previously proposed synonymy. Differences are relatively minor (e.g., Sc. rasus lacks prosternal process, present as a narrow carina in E. sphaerocephalus), except for the shape of the mesoventral intercoxal process. In Sc. rasus, the process is typical as in Euconnus s. str. (and all remaining, previously studied subgenera of Euconnus), i.e., narrowly carinate and strongly elevated. In E. sphaerocephalus, however, the mesoventral process is strongly broadened and flattened ventrally. This unusual structure may justify not only removing Nudatoconnus from synonymy with Pycnophus, but even treating it as a separate genus. However, similarities in other structures between Sc. rasus and E. sphaerocephalus are so numerous that it seems unlikely that the two species are not closely related. More logical explanation is that the unusual form of the mesoventral process is derived from the typical narrow keel and has evolved as an autapomorphy of E. sphaerocephalus or a group of species related to the latter, possibly within Euconnus (Pycnophus). The synonymy is maintained, pending further study.
