I focus on the development, practice, and various applications of his air-pumps in the period from 1700 to 1745, and show how this led to establishing pneumatics as a distinct field. The results of this study show that in intact rats magnesium produces a more rapid resolution of bupivacaine induced electrophysiological changes than placebo. The improvements are in rhythm and electrical conduction, although this is often at the expense of potentiating the bradycardic effects of bupivacaine toxicity. Whilst the bradycardia remains a problem it is potentially more amenable to therapy than the changes in rhythm and conduction which magnesium sulphate reversed. This study examines the relationship between orthopaedic and podiatric surgeons which has formed since the NHS reforms of the 1990s facilitated the establishment of podiatric surgery as a mainstream health-care service. Relations between these two disciplines are considered against the traditional background of dominance of health-care by the medical profession. The study seeks to understand the resistance shown towards podiatric surgery by orthopaedic surgeons and to determine if there is a willingness among orthopaedic and podiatric surgeons, respectively, to develop a more satisfactory work

This thesis examines the established church in Warwickshire from the accession of James I to the outbreak of the English civil war. Its principal aim is to assess the impact of the ecclesiastical policies of Charles I, which have been the subject of considerable debate between historians in recent years. The thesis argues that significant changes occurred in the local church during the 1630s. These were broadly in line with the policies of Archbishop William Laud, who sought to promote an institutional and sacramental style of worship, and to suppress the activity of Protestant nonconformists.
