Full textGeneral Manager of Arts and Letters beside André Malraux from 1959 to 1966, Gaëtan Picon never ceases to practise criticism of writers and artists. Whereas his Minister intends, through Houses of Culture, to spread everywhere the whole heritage left by the past, on his part, as a philosopher inspired by Nietzsche, he gives preference to the creative impulse by the generation of René Char or Jean Dubuffet. Inventor of a theorization of contemporary Culture, he recommends the establishment of a Modern Art Museum with renewed principles and organization. Standing aside political changes and Structuralism Studies, he passionately aims at explaining how a work is built up in the shop of its author. Consequently, he lays down rules for a thoughtful, poetical and philosophical criticism, which, owing to a compact style mixing sensualism and abstraction, kept him apart from public opinion

Full textOUR STUDY WILL BE CENTERED ON AN ANALYSIS OF THE OBJECT IN THE SIXTIES WORLD OF ART, INTERMS OF ITS AESTHETIC AND MARKET VALUES. THIS DOUBLE-EDGED APPROACH DOES NOT ONLY CONCERN THE PLASTIC FORMS OF THE OEUVRE FROM THAT PERIOD BUT ALSO THE INTERDEPENDENCE OF SEVERAL SCIENTIFIC FIELDS AND THE STRATEGIES OF ACTORS DOMINATING THE CULTURAL MILIEU. FOR THE AESTHETIC ANALYSIS, WE WILL EMPLOY THE STUDIES DEVELOPED DURING THE SIXTIES : SOCIOLOGICAL, POETIC, PSYCHOLOGICAL, SEMIOLOGICAL, MATERIAL, SYMBOLIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL. AS FOR THE MARKET VALUE ANALYSIS, WE WILL STUDY THE ROLE OF THE REKNOWN ART GALLERY OWNERS AS WELL AS CURATORS OF THE IMPORTANT MUSEUMS WHO TOOK PART IN CREATING THE MARKET VALUE. THE research ON THIS TYPE OF ARTISTIC VALUES WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY QUESTIONNING THE INTRINSICALNESS OF SUCH A SYSTEM OF VALUES. IT CONCERNS THE VALORIZATION OF THE CRISIS WHICH FOLLOWED THE END OF THE AVANT-GARDE. ARTISTS MUST START UP AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING
Gyra, Varvara. "Esthétique et principes compositionnels dans l'œuvre de Jani Christou (1926-1970)." Paris 8, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PA082935.
Full textThis thesis studies the aesthetics and compositional principles in the work of the Greek composer Jani Christou (Cairo, 1926 - Athens, 1970). Christou, who emerged from the environment of contemporary music of the 1950s, introduced his own musical language, based on his personal research. In the first part we study the composer’s work produced during the two first periods (1948-1958 and 1960-1964), and we focus on his compositions of the third and last period (1965-1970). They constitute the apogee of his musical thought in its most developed form. In particular, we study "Phoenix Music" (1948), "Symphony No. 1" (1950), "Patterns and Permutations" (1960), "Mysterion" (1966), "Enantiodromia" (1968), "Epicycle I" (1968), "The Strychnine Lady" (1967), and "Anaparastasis III : The Pianist" (1968). In the second part we address the philosophical concepts that characterize Christou's musical work, such as the principles of "proto-performance" and "praxis-metapraxis", taking into consideration the composer's anthropological readings. We also study his manifesto, entitled A Credo for music; the role of the circular process in composition; and the notion of confrontation through musical experience. We pay particular attention to the psychological dimension of Christou's musical work, since the composer, influenced by the work of Carl Gustav Jung, uses personal psychological elements in his music

Full textThe main objective of this study is to understand and explicate art pratice, hence artistic creation in contemporary plastic arts in Senegal. We tried to answer the following questions : - how do the senegalese plasticians pratics and create ? - in what political, religious, social, cultural and economic environments do they operate ? - with what means and process ? What procedures and modality implied ? - how dothey find equipments and provisions ? In answering these questions, we have examined the following issues : process of implementation of training schools, socio-economic political and cultural situation in senegal, material and social conditions in the pratice of art, equipments and provisions. Through these main ideas which contitute the first part of this study, we have also tried to show the relashionship between senegalese contemporary plastic arts, state and society in order to determine the conditions and the contexts, the means and the procedures of art pratice at the global society level. The second part examine the same questions at individual levels, we

Full textThe composer Jani Christou is considered as one of the most important representatives of the Greek musical production in the 20th century. It is very interesting to reveal the diversity of his compositions during the last ten years of his life, his personal style and the resultant aesthetics, as well as the way he approached the techniques of primitive expressions (ritualisation, sacrifice) through “metapraxis” and the relationship which is being established between art and metaphysics. In order to comprehend sufficiently the period in question, first of all we will present the main events that marked the composer’s life outlining at the same time the most essential characteristics of his compositions up to 1960. Afterwards, we will analyze his major works during the period that concerns us (1960-1970) in order to show the writing techniques and the extramusical ideas (very often in Jani Christou’s work) that influenced deeply his compositions. Since we’re not aiming to make a presentation of his musical production, our study will focus on the composer’s musicological and aesthetical points of view, while we will try simultaneously to place these elements in connection with his age and his contemporaries

Full textSince cinema’s technical and aesthetical attributes provide it with technical tools to revealworks of art it constitutes a substantial source of knowledge for history of art;critical demonstration, historical commentary, updates of fabrication processes, etc. This inevitable mediating role of filmed art and the specific kind of knowledge that cinema adds to art by (technically) reproducing it and (aesthetically) representing it will be the focus of this work. Through a detailed corpus spread around cinema, history of art and visual culture from 1920 to 1970 this research aims to map out the critical, aesthetical and historical issues of filmed art. Specifically, it is about analysing how filming art fully proceeds from the avant-gardes’ formalistic and political utopia and foreshadows the transition towards the artistic processes that will develop from the 1960s. By looking back at the origins, the history and the conceptual development of films about art this study makes the assumption that there is a cinematic vision of artistic forms and of their uses and some knowledge (aesthetical, historical and theoretical) is added to art as soon as it is depicted in films

Full textThis study proposes to define the emergence of a tendency: the field wildlife artist. We situate this tendency in relation to the history of art in general, contemporary wildlife art and artists, modern animal artists, ornithology, wildlife photographers, optics, author-editor relations, published sketch books…I then examine approaches that resonate with my own artistic practice: loafing, a pseudo-scientific posture, beach combing and also the artistic resonances with my own artwork i. E. The plant drawings of Matisse and Kelly and certain artist’s books. In a dialectic play opposing definition with non definition, I use these resonances to project driftings at the risk of transgressing the limitations and approaches characteristic of the field wildlife artists and their sketchbooks. Finally, this study demonstrates how my educational project Da Vinci usw contributes to the of environmental awareness of schoolchildren aged 4 – 16 years as well nurturing my own artistic practice
