Donatien-Yssa, Patricia. ""Africobra" : esthétique et idéologie de l'expression plastique noire-américaine." Tours, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995TOUR2009.
Full textAfricobra, aesthetics and ideology of afro-american visual arts relates the evolution of painting and sculpture in the black community of the united states from slavery to 1960. It particularly insists on the aesthetic changes that took place during the Harlem renaissance and the revolutionary period of the 60's and 70's. This work examines the aesthetics and the ideology of the afro-american visual arts, essentially between the 60's and the 80’s. More precisely through the study of the works of the Africobra group, a group of then black artists who were deeply involved in the political struggle of the 60's and 70's and in the search for new aesthetic concepts. It also takes an active interest in the problem of the cultural identity and in the relation that exists between the ideological discourse and the pictural language, showing how the members of Africobra urged by their philosophical and political convictions have drawn from the afro-american and african traditions to create an art opened on contemporaneousness and reflecting their aesthetic aspirations

Full textWhile showing the recurrence of the concepts (punishment/reward) in the african universe, we tried to analyze the direction and the function of this set of themes starting from a film sampling. Our effort in the company of reading is an effort of interpretation and thus of creation from where the theory which we baptized: the châtirécompense. Studied works are varied and relate to the Xxème century with a stylistic analysis on West african realizers. By treating on the filmic level the religious fact and the social fact while raising the question of the direction, but also of the report/ratio to the monk, the tradition, with crowned. Certain events of film CEDDO make go up the memories with the conscience. One cannot say that that has nothing to do with the life. We could confront the psychoanalytical figures of the Jung and Freud with the topics of water, fire, the tree and the sund. By initially instrumentalisant the topics by assumptions (philosophical, moral, sociological, anthropological, ethnological and cinematographical) we then supported our reflexion by the analysis of the dialogues while elucidating so much is little, the images, the specific forms of accounts/tales of griots will bambara or mandingue and the essential truths contained in the myths and rites of certain filmic accounts

Full textThis work is a reflection of the problem of identity in photographic and more generally pictorial production. It questions Black American photographers' works and the way they portray or mask the African American reality. My aim was to study the Black identity in the sense of the African identity or African origin asserted by Black Americans and the way contemporary artists deal with it, especially in the works of Black photographers. It looks at the past and present, using various and overlapping archived images, paintings, photographs and evidence, based on real, historical or imaginary events which give an in-depth, objective analysis of complex problems related to slavery, discrimination, the existence of a Black identity and the portrayal of African Americans and other minorities in the United States in general. In the end, it's a cultural study, which looks at how Black identity takes shape across very different works in which the photographer brings into play persona! motivations and common problems

Full textThe links between literature and african politic seem to be so close that they concentrated the problematics and the evolutions of artistic field. According to Mongo Beti, the relation is preponderant, whereas Alain Mabanckou asserts that this closeness is a possibility. Between these generations, it exists both an esthetical and ideological change: the crossing from delinking to an interdependant regime. The writers focus on the useful of the form in ordrer to underline the meaning. The politic of literature follows the contours of the world and its entrance in the era of the Poetic of Relation

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to point out the author's black skin as the background with which the paintings are constructed. It is made with an album of photographs and three books. The first book, "of black and art", is about the relation between the author, a black creole from the island, and what she tries to do in art. The second book, "of colour and its metaphors", shows how colours, the first significans of painting, are used as an adornment. The third book, "of structure", revealed the other function of the colours, which is to structure the skin's blackness. Thes the picture skin are different metaphors of the authors's black skin. And the new birth of the multiple black skin is pregnant with the island space, bordered and polycultural. "L'ile aux signes" is shown as a proposed model where a small scale labyrinth paintings are set as actors in a play. The author does an homage to the far away island from which she was parted and to a coloured universe which ambiguous epople vainly try to inhabit

Full textWe know very little about the history of African dances on the continent and their arrival in France. However, there is a history of practices, with several discontinuities in the traditional dances practices that will come from Africa in a new era of dance concert. By producing new forms, the latest of contemporary African dance, African dances necessarily attract attention. The history of dance in Africa, because of his recent choreographic culture, gathers little research and knowledge on present practices. What are these practices? What are the thoughts behind them? Focusing on issues of transmission and teaching, our thesis has a dual perspective of the analysis of dancing gestures, observed in both the systemic and social anthropological aspects. Our review is based on the assumption of a mutation of the meaning and methods of transmission of African dances and, therefore, a transformation of their practices. It questioned these changes, and questions the poetic gesture in dance aesthetics and symbolism. From the emergence of the first courses in African dance highlighting the methods of diffusion or education, to aesthetic and kinesthetic of these dances, the investigation attempts to show how those modes of transmission and education, while having evolved and changed direction, keep the basic principles of African dance, while significantly altering the symbolic significance of the body, and kinesthetic dance. We are witnessing the emergence of original dancing body types, body types of cross-cultural shaping of African dance forms and unusual hybrids
