Full textThe time has come to think media practice and culture with the help of the French philosopher Michel Foucault. Modern Press as TV networks and programms can also be understood by using foucaldian paradigms. Not for themselves, but for a better understanding of our modernity. Foucaldism genealogy has fertilised many of the fields of historical research. Foucault's method can be widely applied to media area analysis. "Surveiller et punir" wich has been in the last sixties the most influential and emblematic text for thinking carceral phenomenon, is now the most important text for understanding new forms of survey born with the advanced technology of communication. "The History of sexuality" wich criticizes the traditional understanding of sexuality becomes an emblematic reference for the new scholarship on sexual behavior. This text can be useful for media research as media area and products are also ruled by desire and sexuality. Philosophers' view upon society, power, biological power, genealogy of history, provides a large variety of conceptual tools for communication seachers but also for professionals

Full textThe dramatic increase in the amount of digital images in our cultural environment proves that more information has been made available for our vision by perspective. A new approach of perspective, issued from experimentation combining photograph, cinema and painting as well as from a phylosophical interpretation borrowed from nelson goodman's analytical method, has brought along an actualization of a new use of perspectiva artificialis. The construction perspective, works in a similar way to musical scores, organising the mathematical structure of paintings and it also makes it easier to turn images into digital data. This allows a new, specific approach of ancient artworks. Thus, quattrocento becomes a priviledged subjet of study, both from an artistic and from a theoretical point of view. By underlining certain usages of linear perspective which had been ignored up to date and which do not aim at representing but at disminishing the capacity of representation of the painting itself, it is possible to ally the perspective with the main avant-garde theories of modernity which had banned it. The fact of showing the flatness of the painting, its rectangular layout, and of insisting on two specific properties of perspectiva artificialis, "being a rule" and "being a representation", are both manifestations of a exemplificational modernist logic and of the byzantinian logic which refuses to "make holes in the wall". Therefore, perspective is not a mere instrument, it is in fact an esthetic element that involves specific artistical methods. Perspective exists as a a rule of game like many others, although its main quality is to be deeply entrenched in our visual culture

Full textThe term `horizon' disconcerts by the abundance of disciplines to which it refers : Renaissance perspective, landscape, Husserlian phenomenology. How to organise them? In Courbet's The Wave, the horizon fine no longer assures the junction between planes but their dissension, questioning the sovereignty of vision in the experience of landscape. Here the horizon contradicts a whole history of representation of distance which, from perspective to phenomenology, promotes the concordance of view points. This perspective sense is questioned by Modem painters and by Heidegger, whose desire to conceive the horizon outside of horizontality and the limit outside of vision happens through submission to another order. Envisioned as location for a fiction, die horizon tests die picture with the energy of the discord. What's at stake is to 'see together', in a field in which it is important to maintain the force of indetermination

Full textThe prupose of this research is to schow that the classical approach of economic analysis can be considered as an alternative to the walrasian and neo-walrasian one. The formation of prices, defined as the salient feature of the distinction between these two traditions, is the starting point of our study. As a matter of fact when the standatd analysis focuses on walrasian market to elaborate a general theory of exchanges, classical one, on the contrary starts from the production side to build a theory of production without any reference to the market. In this light, if the traditional theory is closely linked to walrasian market, calssical approach seemw to be comptatible with different theories of market working. The aim of this research is therefore to show that the classical analysis is related to a set of market studies. In a firt part, based on the history of economic thought, we prove the existence of two calssical approaches of market. In a secondpart, we build a typology of classical markets to evaluate the level of completion of this tradition compared with the traditional one

Full textThe purpose of the dissertation consists in studying the real influence exerted by credit on the level as well as on the structure of economic activity. The analytical framework which has been privileed corresponds to a multiple good economy. It implies the treatment of the evolution of national production, of the diffusion of technological change as well as of the structure of relative prices over time. The first part of the work is greatly related to the history of economic thought. It covers the literature of interwar period authors who have focused on the articulation between credit and production and tried to provide an analytical formulation of this relation. The main authors that have been considered are hayek, keynes, schumpeter and robertson. They correspond to different extensions of the original intuition of knut wicksell. The comparative perspective that has been privileged in this part then permits a better understanding of the weaknesses as well as the potentialities of all these research works. The second part of the dissertation is concerned with the approach developed by michio morishima in his book entitled capital and credit. This approach deserves special attention for at least two reasons. On one hand, it permits to reconsider, on the basis of a consistent and unified analytical framework, the interwar period contributions that have been presented in the first part of the work. On the other hand, it provides a comprehensive research agenda allowing the treatment of macro, "intermediary" and microeconomic levels of economic activity. The dissertation ends up with an attempt to reformulate morishima's approach in order to provide an analysis of disequilibria related to the existence of credit within a multi-sector production economy

Full textFrom the analysis of "l'oeil et l'esprit", the main work of merleau-ponty, the relationship of man to real has been established as a work of art. The basic framework is both the definition of seeing and the analysis of living present. The phenomenological attitudes of merleau-ponty, husserl, heidegger are being respectively tackled as "apology of seeing", "problematical seeing", "breaking off seeing". The main characteristic of phenomenological analysis is that it is always a "tempo-analysis". The experience of space is rooted in existence, which is shown by merleau-ponty, following husserl. The analysis of a yet unpublished work of this philosopher clearly shows the binding of the appearing of the thing in itself, living present and setting-up of space. Time is defined in "les lecons pour une conscience intime du temps". As time appearing and through the difficulties to conceive the absolute stream of conscience. The effort to approach the living present is faced with the necessity of a gap which is clearly shown by merleau-ponty in "le visible et l'invisible". The mediator of the incarnate body as a way of metamorphosis explains the relationship between man and world in space and time, but also beyond them. The conceptions of retention and protention, husserlian discoveries, lead to a definition of unreality as main element of phenomenological analysis and by correlation of image as opening to the world. A confrontation with hallucination gives ground to the definitions already given of phenomenological attitude

Full textThe impact of personality on performance and sport success is a very largely allowed belièf and seems to be common sense. However, a systematic analysis of the scientific literature reveals that the work completed on this topic does not lead to this direction. This doctoral dissertation proposes on the one hand, to develop an innovative conceptualisation of sport success and on the other hand, to study the contribution of personality dimensions to this success. From this point of view we made the choice to direct this research towards the theoretical fields of subjective well-being and job performance, from which we borrowed theories, concepts and methods. The application of the concepts of life satisfaction, emotions or objective and subjective career success to the sport field, allowed the creation of an alternative conception of sport success distinguishing a subjective success (sportsmen's judgement) and an objective success (trainers' judgement). The research of the temperamental bases of sport success was supported on several theoretical frameworks such as the Five Factor Theory (McCrae and Costa, 1995) and the hierarchical models of subjective well-being (Bottom-up and TopDown). The obtained results highlight the relation between objective success and Neuroticism, Extraversion and Agreeableness dimensions. Nevertheless, Agreeableness dimension seems to have the main impact, primarily through its influence on the Relational Qualities dimension (Fair-play, Integrity. . . ). The subjective success, as for it, is strongly related to Neuroticism and Extraversion dimensions as well as those of life satisfaction and emotions. The consideration of motivational elements, of the theory of goals and of the alignment of predictors and performance criteria according to Campbell's strategy (1990) should allow, in later research, to improve the comprehension of the yole of personality in sport success

Full textIf there is an economic field whose place is not very obvious in algeria, it certainly is tourism. In fact, the part played by the latter in the developing of the country has been as a whole, insignifiant compared with the one played in a number of neighbouring mediterranea countries. The purpose of this thesis is to make evident the trumps of this country and to show the reasons of the putting aside of this field of acitivities. This study is destined to contribute to the debate started by the public authorities and university personalities ; the target to accept the challenge of the diversification of the foreign financial resources of the country. Tourism can constitute an economic alternative if the people in charge in this field of activities as well as the governement of the algerian state adopt a new strategy based on the valorization of the numerous productd, if they intervene on mentalities and direct their policy towards what constitutes the originality of algeria that is to say the south able to stand easily all competition, which is not the case of seaside resort tourism. This present work also wants a demonstration mad from many surveys, from the new views on the opening out of algerian tourism

Full textAs part of the country’s colonial legacy, Cameroonian’s university system is widely established on Western foundations. German, English and French colonialists provided the background knowledge from which everything has developed till nowadays. Faculty members were for a long time foreigners before they become Cameroonians as part of the growing autonomy of the institution. This personel basically comes from the lower classes and has benefited of scholarships to study abroad. Cameroonians scholars therefore are multipositional but do not enjoy suitable working conditions. Their intellectual freedom is sometimes jeopardized by political influences which, moreover, seek to instrumentalize them. The university system is broadly divided into seven state universities which basically expose their western affiliation. Cameroon’s state universities are considered peripheral, regarding western universities as central and paradigmatic. The system therefore does not correspond to local realities and does not meet the needs and goals of nation building. It is laid under mimicry of western curricula and fetishism of occidental knowledge

Full textOrganization and Management studies have somewhat neglected Time Perspective (TP), which is, according to Lewin, the sum of the individual’s viewpoints of his psychological past and future existing at a given time. This dissertation examines how small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owner-managers and their firms generate growth, with a focus on TP. Questionnaires and qualitative interviews with 22 SME owners (10‒49 employees) revealed individual TPs and links among diverse components of the conceptual framework (e.g., alertness, entrepreneurial orientation) and other important factors (e.g., cognitive biases). The 22 cognitive maps also showed several firm growth trajectories and raised questions about the “balanced” TP as a discriminating criterion. Last, a model and directions for future research are proposed

Full textEach country deals with the problem of bankruptcy and financial distress. In France, the small and medium size companies are particularly concerned by this situation. In this research, we study the cycle of distress and rescue among this companies. We investigate the role of stakeholders, which take a prominent part in the failing firm. This argument is considered as an important variable during the rescue process, since significant changes in corporate governance occur when firms face bankruptcy. Precisely, thanks to the contractual theory of organizations, we try to explain the reaction and the behaviour of stakeholders during the restructuring period. We then test the hypothesis using a sample of 65 SMEs, which have achieved a reorganization plan. The results of this analysis highlights the role of management and the main determinant of support granted by employees, banks, clients and suppliers

Full textFatigue, decrease of physical capacity, decrease of quality of life ... are direct consequences of cancer and related treatments. Contend against the decline of patients’ quality of life is now a priority in the fight against cancer ( “Plan Cancer 2014-2019”). Adapted physical activity has proven effective for patients undergoing cancer treatment. This thesis, described as "action-research", was conducted at the Institut of Movement Sciences (CNRS UMR 7287 AMU). As part of collaboration with the Institut Paoli Calmettes, Centre de Lutte Contre le Cancer in the PACA region, the objective of this work was to contribute to knowledge development in the field of adapted physical activity in oncology. This research’s program was organized in 5 studies, collecting 262 subjects. Firstly, the main results illustrated that adapted physical activity is beneficial for very specific populations (Study 1); secondly we demonstrated that physical activity remotely managed via new technologies could be a real alternative to supervised programs (Study 3). Furthermore, an additional study (Study 2) revealed a very limited involvement of patients in these programs. For the first time in literature, we revealed that the time perspective is a variable to be considered in the promotion of physical activity for patients (Study 4) as well as personality, age and type of hospital (Study 5). This thesis sheds new light both in terms of the contribution of scientific knowledge and on therapeutic proposals in order to develop and improve supportive physical activity for patients suffering from cancer

Full textThis thesis proposes to study the "teaching and diffusion of French language in Afghanistan: review and perspective". The teaching of French has been developed for almost a century in Afghanistan; the French language is taught at the secondary level, at the university level, in the French Institute of Afghanistan as well as at in the private centers in Afghanistan. The present research has tried very modestly to show what are the approaches implemented for the teaching and the diffusion of French in Afghanistan. Throughout this work, we have set ourselves the fundamental goal of exploring the teaching and learning situation of French, the motivations of Afghan students for learning this language, the representations these students have of this language as well as the supports put in place for the teaching, the promotion and the diffusion of this language in Afghanistan. The methodology of this work is based on surveys conducted in Kabul (semi-structured interviews and questionnaires). Our surveys were conducted using data collected through two data tools: questionnaire surveys of teachers and students of French and a semi-structured interview with professors of the French Department of Kabul University. Our interviewees are made up of students from the French department (students specializing in French), students learning French as second language, and students from two French-speaking Afghan high schools (Istiqlal and Malalaï), and the French teachers of these institutions: Department of French and Istiqlal and Malalaï high schools. According to the results of these surveys, Afghan students learn French for several reasons: instrumental and personal. French is considered an important language from a professional point of view on the one hand, and on the other hand, it is the cultural value and prestige of this language that gives Afghans access to a rich culture. It is also perceived, according to these students, as a language of openness to the world, which is why French has a privileged status in Afghanistan. Although Afghans do not use French for writing, speaking and for daily and professional communication, the persistence of this language in afghan society is due to the positive reasons and the representations that these students have of this language

Full textThis thesis aims at describing the reciprocal relations between perspective taking and the vestibular system. A study in patients with bilateral vestibular deficits and controls showed that the anchoring of the self to the body and implicit visuo-spatial perspective taking were similar in both groups. Our negative findings offer insight into the multisensory mechanisms of embodiment: only acute peripheral vestibular disorders and neurological disorders in vestibular brain areas may evoke disembodied experiences. A second study, combined natural vestibular stimulation on a rotatory chair with virtual reality to test how vestibular signals are processed to simulate the view point of a distant avatar. While they were rotated, participants tossed a ball to a virtual character from the view point of a distant avatar. Our results showed that participants were faster when their physical body rotated in the same direction as the mental rotation needed to take the avatar's viewpoint. Altogether, these data indicate that vestibular signals have a direction-specific influence on visuo-spatial perspective taking, but not a general effect on mental imagery. Finally, cognitive modulations of vestibular information processing were analyzed by recording vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials on the sternocleidomastoid and trapeze muscles. The amplitude of evoked potentials was significantly modulated by the angle separating the participant’s viewpoint to that of a distant avatar. To conclude, our theoretical work, together with results from this series of experiments, demonstrate the contribution of vestibular information to visuo-spatial perspective taking

Full textGiven the complexity of the business environment, resorting to expertise proves to be essential for the works council to fully exercise its powers and ultimately for the council to contribute to the application of the employee involvement principle. A more realistic approach to expertise enables us to establish that the works council has two types of experts at its disposal: institutional experts (chartered accountants, technical experts, expert consultants and economic experts) and non-institutional experts (some of the works council commissions and the Health, Safety and Working Conditions Committee (CHSCT)). The relations between the works council and experts oscillate between a traditional perspective and an updated perspective. In a very traditional fashion, these two types of experts unevenly act as pathfinders for the works council. They provide the council with information but also process this information when it is necessary. More strangely, however, experts also appear to be involved in the decision-making process as well as in the process of consultation. Beyond the tasks that experts can perform for the works council, two kinds of underlying dynamic can be evidenced by the relations between the experts and the council: a relational dynamic between the various players involved in the expertise that is characterised by a subtle balance between dependence on and independence from one other, and a collective dynamic that indicates the existence of a collective expertise. This collective expertise consists in a system of collective intelligence that is necessary to the effectiveness of the employee involvement principle

Full textOur works affect the study of representations in long term memory as we have in view that the memory is a multiple proprieties unique system. We have organized our researches around two central questions : 1. Is memory made of unities stored at precise places or is it a configuration of unities set in a network among the memory system as is the nervous system ? 2. Does the memory keep a point of the whole of the experiences man is confronted with or does it keep a summing up of these experiences in the shape of concepts or ptototyps ? The experiment part of our work has treated the second question. Through three series of experiences, we have studied the effect of the variables prototypy and distance in tasks of categorisation and perceiving discrimination. We used a scheme we built entirely, pseudowords, according to the work of Whittlesea. Our goal was to show that the distance between exemplaries has a major impact on the treatment of information and that the effect of prototypy emerges from the activating of coded exemplaries and not from a prototype stored in the memory. We wanted also to show that the type of task and the type of stimulus influence the treatment of information, this treatment being specific to the treatment episode

Full textThis dissertation explores the goal-striving process in work settings. Based on the conservation of resources conceptualization, the current research examines how resource dynamics shape individual's behavior during goal pursuit. In this research three independent studies probe the resource mechanism. Specifically, the first study presents the investment of personal resources like self-efficacy, optimism and subjective well-being based on the value placed on end result(s) (goal attainment) or striving experience (goal commitment). Cross-cultural data collected from salespeople working in France, Pakistan and the USA support the hypothesized reciprocal relationships. The second study explores the curvilinear interactive role of grit and perceived organizational support in an individual's goal progress. Time lagged data collected from university professors working in the USA confirm the curvilinear relationship between grit and goal progress. The linkage between perceived organizational support and goal progress appears to be linear. The third study of this dissertation tests the mechanism through which fear of goal failure can predict unethical behavior. This study also explores the moderating role of conscientiousness and moral attentiveness during this process. The current research contributes to the field by testing various hypothesized models in work settings

Full textThis dissertation consists of three essays on the specific incentive structure that underlies regulation contexts in which the agents generating an environmental externality self-regulate in order to preempt the enforcement of a mandatory policy by a regulatory agency. The three essays take a normative perspective, i.e. investigate the way the regulatory agency may induce efficient proactive behavior by the mean of purposely designed threat and announcement effects. Such mechanisms fall under the common denomination of 'collective voluntary-threat policies' (CVTP). The three essays' results focus on the threat, formalized as a unit tax that is said to be implemented by the regulator if the environmental target is not reached voluntarily : first in a two-stage and static emission game (first essay) ; then in a differential extraction game (second essay) ; finally in a general participation game to the CVTP (third essay). In each framework, the tax is considered as endogenous, and thereby, the CVTP being studied as part of the Incentive-Based Regulatory Approaches
