Several regions in Indonesia that have good work ethic values, the Madura region also has a variety of work ethic values that are full of meaning and good for application in their respective professional fields. Unfortunately, to this day most ordinary people are more focused on a small number of problems that appear in the media related to Madurese society. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the concept of the ideal character of counselors based on the values of the Madurese work ethic as an effort to improve the professional competence of school counselors in providing assistance services to students at school. This study use qualitative research, Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic approach which includes a variant of discourse analysis to interpret the message structure and the various functions of language stored in the Madurese Tor-cator (philosophical words). The main data is comes from the results of a previous study then strengthened through observation and field interviews. This study shows that the work ethic values of the Madura Tor-cator are very relevant to the professional orientation of school counselors. The results of this study provide an important contribution to enrichment materials for increasing the competence of school counselors based on regional local wisdom values.

Abstract:
There has been an increasing interest on the work ethics and its various aspects among the academicians and practitioners. This is partly because of the ethical scandals that have occurred in the recent years and got attention from media and public and therefore raised the questions regarding ethical standards of companies and its practical use in the business life. This interest has prompted several research into the topic both theoretical and practical levels. Although the studies have accumulated in the Western World, the studies coming from the developing countries are limited and thus call for the studies to further investigate the dynamics and implications of the work ethics. This study particularly pays attention to Islamic work ethic and aims to identify whether Islamic work ethic values differ across various demographic variables and firm characteristics. The study also investigates the relationship between the Islamic work ethic and innovation capability and firm performance. The study is supported with a field study conducted on the firms operating in KahramanmaraÅŸ in Turkey. The obtained data was analyzed by using Correlation, ANOVA, T-test and Regression in SPSS. The results showed that IWE values differ across some characteristic of the respondents and firms. The results also indicate the positive influence of IWE values on innovation capability and firm performance.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper debates the Islamic perspective on the work ethics employed in an organization. It aims to discuss the issues of assumptions involving the Islamic Work Ethic (IWE). Therefore, this paper addresses the gap in the management literature and suggests a group of dimensions from fundamentals of Islam. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reviews the foundations of IWE and investigates various empirical studies conducted in several countries. Then, briefly presents a short historical and conceptual review of the work ethic construct, suggests a general conceptual definition of work ethic, and offers multidimensional model including a series of constructs which can enable researchers to evaluate and measure work ethic in Islamic societies. Findings – The study reveals that there is an evidence of ethics formulation depending on Islamic literature which constructs Islamic values for work. This paper proposes new perspective about the right ethics of work in Islam. Further, multidimensional model including 18 dimensions has been developed to evaluate work ethic in Islamic societies. Research limitations/implications – This field needs to reconsider the constructs of IWEs where it is far from reflecting Islamic theory. This paper presents new dimensions which can be utilized to enrich this area. Originality/value – This is one of the few attempts to suggest the appropriate constructs of IWE in the management literature. It provides 18 elements responsible and have the promise to strengthen individual transparency and morally which eventually enhance economic progress in Islamic world.

Abstract:
This text presents, from an educational aim, an interpretation of the sport ethics understood as concretion of the civic ethics applied to the sporting event. When analysing the origin of sport educational values, we conclude that these are grouped around two major poles: intrinsic values related to their practical dimension and extrinsic values related to its social sphere. This paper argues that, when it refers to the field of external values from the social context, these can only be understood as a concretion of the moral principles dominated by the society that gave birth to modern sport: the civic ethics.

Abstract:
Confucianism is the name of one of the schools of Chinese philosophy. The founder of Confucianism was named Confucius. In an age when division, turmoil and constant wars are rampant, Confucius wants to restore the order of heaven (Tianming) so as to unify China and bring peace and prosperity to the people. The humanistic teachings of Confucianism developed into one of the most important things in Chinese civilization. Confucius' most profound teachings lay in his emphasis on self- development or self-civilization, moral example and the ability to make well-trained decisions rather than knowledge of natural laws. His ethics then, is more of a benevolent ethic. The concepts of humanism introduced in Confucianism are: Zhengming (justification, upholding one's name), Yi (virtue), Ren (human kindness), Xiao (respect), Li (ritual), Tianming (sky order). In Chinese terms, Confucianism refers to two meanings: Ju Chiao which refers to religious teachings and Ju Chia which refers to philosophical schools. As Ju Chiao in the religious field the term T'ien or Tian is the main spiritual factor. In the Confucian teachings about Tianming or the orders of the sky, the content is that T'ien gives the power of a country to people he chooses, namely those who are deemed capable of leading a country. Abstract:
This study explores the field of social work values in the social work profession. The aim of the study is to explore how social work values are related to empowerment practices and organizational structures inside the social work field. By using the perspective of empowerment and professional doxa these structures inside the social work field are explored in interviews with nine social workers. These nine interviews show how social workers relate to values insides their profession, how empowerment practices are done, and what kind of organizational conflicts social workers may experience. By using the perspectives of empowerment and professional doxa the interviews been analysed and connected to both local and global concerns for the social work field. Many professional conflicts were found by taking these perspectives that are discussed in this study, as for example role conflicts social workers could experience. Other conflicts were those of structural failures that caused harm to client contacts and economic factors that were deemed more important for organizations than good client outcomes.

Abstract:
This thesis describes a research project which investigated the use of Media Studies in Values Education at a Catholic Primary School in Brisbane. The focus of the study was a nine week unit on "Multiculturalism" which utilised the concepts and strategies of Media Studies and which involved the researcher in actually leading the teaching of the unit to a combined class of 55 students from Years 6 and 7. Teachings for the unit revolved around Construction and Deconstruction activities with particular attention given to the following ethnic groupings: (i) Anglo/Celtic (ii) Aboriginal (iii) Vietnamese (iv) El Salvadorean The study developed around the hypothesis that Media Studies can provide a useful means for teaching Values Education and it investigated the following research questions: 1. To what extent did the children have more positive values about themselves and other ethnic groups at the end of the unit on "Multiculturalism"? 2. To what extent was the Media Studies approach to the teaching of the unit responsible for such changes in values that occurred? 3. How did the techniques of Construction and Deconstruction contribute to the development of more positive attitudes to self and others and the ability to interact more effectively with others? The findings show that Media Studies can, indeed, contribute to the development of core understandings and skills of Values Education as identified by Hill (1991, p. 10) in his "minimum specifications for Values Education in Australia", as follows: "To assist students: (a) to acquire a representative knowledge base concerning the value traditions of groups within contemporary Australian society; (b) to enter with empathy into the perceptions and feelings of people who have been strongly committed to these traditions; ( c) to develop skills of critical and appreciative values appraisal; ( d) to encourage and put into practice skills of decision-making and value negotiation; ( e) to develop a concern for the community and the care of its members. Both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies were used to chart the development of cognitive, affective and volitional aspects of children's values towards themselves and other ethnic groups and to examine the development of their interpersonal skills. The combined findings from the quantitative and qualitative data collected during the study, show that there is a strong case to support the hypothesis that Media Studies can provide a useful means for teaching Values Education in the classroom. The evidence suggests that by the end of the unit, the children who were involved did have more positive attitudes towards themselves and others, and had improved their interpersonal skills. There is also sufficient evidence to conclude that these outcomes were produced, at least to some significant extent, by the use of the concepts and strategies of Media Studies, particularly Construction and Deconstruction. The methodologies included a Pre-Test/Post-Test which involved short written responses, drawings and the completion of a ratings scale, as well as interviews, observations and content analysis of some of the children's video work completed towards the end of the unit. The use of a variety of methodologies to examine the hypothesis provided the multiple perspectives of triangulation and the opportunity to offset the shortcomings of one type of methodology with another which did not have those potential sources of experimental error. For example, the anonymity of the children's responses in the PreTest/Post-Test helped to ensure that the children would feel free to give their honest responses to the questions and provided an opportunity to cross-check responses given in the interviews. The study's findings have important implications for teaching and learning and give rise to a number of interesting questions relating to ways children may be assisted to define and refine their ethical positions. It also highlights the problems of encouraging collaborative behaviours within an essentially, individually-competitive school system; and raises issues with respect to the handling of controversial topics by teachers within schools. Finally, the study suggests the basis for a conceptual framework for using Media Studies to implement Values Education within the classroom and identifies areas for further research.

Haywood, Douglas. "The ethic of the code : values, networks and narrative among the civic hacking community." Thesis, Goldsmiths College (University of London), 2018. http://research.gold.ac.uk/23348/.

Full text
Abstract:
Computer hacking has come to represent something negative within mainstream society and is typically associated with malicious or criminal acts. However, for those involved in hacking, this practice typically means something quite different and much more positive in nature. Recently, hacking has also gained increasing popular appeal with greater interest in the role of hackers in the history of technology. This portrayal, however, represents hacking in a binary way, portraying the activity as either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ rather than as the reality of a complex and heterogeneous set of practices and ethics. It is within this context that the Civic Hacking movement has emerged. Those involved in Civic Hacking apply these ethics on a global and local scale to create projects which aim to solve a range of social problems using technology and borrowing from the approaches and practices of hacking. These ‘problems’ can include crime; violence; humanitarian disasters such as tsunamis, famine or earthquake; improvements needed to local government in terms of the democratic process or infrastructure; providing access to healthcare, education or banking in remote areas; involving local communities in issues and a range of other challenges which require solutions. This research project explores hacking as a non-technologically specific social practice based around a collection of Hacker Ethics. Through research focusing on hacking events, I argue that Civic Hacking is indicative of the influence of the Hacker Ethic in wider areas of society. In particular, I explore how Civic Hacking is situated within the wider history of hacking; to what extent the technological artefacts produced by Civic Hacking are shaped by the ethics of these groups; whether Civic Hacking is indicative of a democratisation of technologies; and the types of communities which form around Civic Hacking.

Abstract:
Leadership behavior has been a popular research topic for many years. Much of this research has focused upon the identification of leader behavior that is interactional or determined by the situation which influences leadership style. Current leadership theories raise the question of the relationships between leadership behavior and personal work values. The problem of this research is to investigate the relationship of leadership style with an individual's values for working. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between variables which characterize leadership styles and variables related to working values. The hypotheses hold that work values will correlate positively with leadership style. Data were collected through the administration of three research instruments to ninety-two managers of five business firms. The instruments were the participant cover letter providing demographic characteristics, Leader Behavior Analysis II identifying style of leadership, and Values for Working identifying personal work values. Coefficients of determination were calculated to identify possible relationships between leadership style and personal work values. No significant statistical correlation was found. The conclusion is that leadership style appears to be a function of something other than an individual's work values.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to examine perceptions of workplace incivility as a function of observers’ gender, observers’ gender-related attitudes, and the gender of the instigator and target of the mistreatment. The study included data from 102 (65% female, 90% white) participants from various occupations and backgrounds across the United States. Participants completed a web-based survey that consisted of scenarios of uncivil interactions, gender-attitudes, and various demographic information. Results suggest that observers’ gender and gender-related attitudes are important factors in how they perceive workplace incivility. Results also suggest that the gender of those involved in uncivil interactions is less influential. vii

Por fim, tentamos refletir sobre as possíveis razões para a permanência destes valores autorais.<br>This dissertation is aimed at reflecting the concept of author, the main values commonly related to it and how these concepts are present in the field of design. For this, at first, we sought to establish some definitions of what may mean or refer the terms author and design. In other words, we aim to point out what are some of the key terms usually related either to author or design. Thus, we can see that there are common values that are associated with both terms as creativity, individuality, creation and community. After that, we offer some examples of events occurring within the field of design where it can be verified the presence of these values, ie, examples that illustrate how the authorship is an important issue for the field of design. The examples are: the design signed, intellectual property and social design. After the examples, we propose to examine and discuss directly some of the values of authorship mentioned above, present in both settings as in the examples, they are: individuality, creation and creativity. Finally, we try to reflect on the possible reasons for the continuing of these values.

Abstract:
AbstractThis contribution deals with the importance of values in business written from the practical perspective of working in the field of business ethics, and sustainability in different functions and for more than 15 years. Focusing on a practical approach, it discusses the handling of values in management and communication. It demonstrates how the concept of values originated in the economic sphere and always included the idea of ideal values insofar as they establish and regulate social relationships. The article explains why an ethical approach to corporate values, based on the normative stakeholder view, is necessary, so that values can fulfil their orientating function. Hence, corporate ethics is a suitable topic for reflection. In addition to the motivations and drivers that lead companies to deal with normative values, the contribution describes which values companies actually proclaim. While the question of an ethical assessment of motivation is not discussed in detail, the challenges companies face in their values management and communication are described. Using the example of human rights based on the value of human dignity, the contribution shows how these challenges ultimately affect the corporate context and what steps can be taken. It closes with questions at the interface between corporate ethics, values management, and legislative initiatives.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this chapter, the COVID-19 crisis is examined as an episode that reveals various complications in the relation between values and institutions. I argue that these complications cannot be addressed satisfactorily by ethics, as this field is characterised by a gap between the identification of values worth pursuing and the effectuation of these values in society through politics. This chapter aims to bridge this gap between ethics and politics by outlining the dialectical relation between values and institutions. It will do so by first presenting values as collectively held understandings that emerge in public deliberation. Second, these values are safeguarded by setting up appropriate institutions, which, at the same time, also allows the further substantiation of these values. However, it also needs to be acknowledged that institutions are not mere instrumental solutions to further societal values. On the contrary, they have their own morally laden dynamics. As such, they should also be susceptible to adjustment following societal demand.

Abstract:
AbstractLocal governments in the Netherlands are increasingly undertaking data projects for public management. While the emergence of data practices and the application of algorithms for decision making in public management have led to a growing critical commentary, little actual empirical research has been conducted. Over the past few years, we have developed a research method that enables researchers to enter organisations not merely as researchers but also as experts on data ethics. Through participatory and ethnographic observation, the DEDA (Data Ethics Decision Aid) gives us special insight into ethics in local government. Where most research has focused on the theoretical aspects of data ethics, our approach offers a new perspective on data practices, by looking at how data ethics is done in public management. Our research provides insight into the state of data awareness within organisations that are mostly portrayed—within critical data studies—as homogeneous and monolithic entities. The distinct method developed at Utrecht Data School allows researchers to immerse themselves within organisations and closely observe data practices, discourses on ethics, and how organisations address challenges that arise as a consequence of datafication. For the purpose of this chapter, we analyse our field work with the DEDA through the lens of Mark Moore’s Strategic Triangle of Public Value. We show how our field work can give insight into how the three angles of the strategic triangle are shaped in practice. From this analysis we draw three conclusions. First, that ethical awareness of data projects is often low because data literacy among civil servants is limited. Second, that by not recognising the choices civil servants have to make as ethical or political choices, they can make decisions that go beyond their mandate. Third, that there is a dangerous tendency where ethical deliberation is sometimes seen as an obnoxious bureaucratic box ticking exercise, instead of being considered as a vital part of the design and build-up of a data project.

Abstract:
Violence against healthcare workers has become a global problem with a high prevalence worldwide. Examining the root causes of violence that occurs within a specific healthcare system and evaluating it from an ethical perspective will be important for understanding violence and developing prevention strategies. The physician/health worker-patient relationship is an interaction that has ancient values from the past to the present and where the humanistic dimension is at the forefront. The fact that healthcare professionals provide services based on mutual respect, trust, honesty, compassion and fidelity, based on patient benefit, contributes to the success of the patient’s diagnosis and treatment process. However, in the last thirty years, there has been a significant transformation in this field due to the effects of some external factors such as health systems, medical technology, medical education, advanced specialization, physician’s patient load, legal regulations, and the media, especially on the physician-patient relationship. This feature of the physician-patient relationship, which is based on ethical values, has been eroded, mechanized and reduced to a service provider-service recipient relationship. The bonds of mutual respect, trust and compassion have started to dissolve, and a new situation of anomie and loss of value has emerged. This new situation has gradually become dominated by domination and violence. Violence is unethical because it is an act that disregards the value of human beings as beings with moral status and dignity, and because it treats human beings as tools. The instrumentalization and devaluation of health workers is one of the main dynamics underlying violence. Violence against healthcare workers is akin to the tip of the iceberg, stemming from various underlying social, economic, political, legal, and cultural factors. However, despite its complexity and multidimensionality, violence against healthcare workers is a preventable issue. In short, it is necessary to combat all factors that lead to violence in the healthcare. It is not enough to rely solely on judicial penalties; necessary adjustments within the healthcare system and the establishment of permanent and sustainable national policies are also vital.

Abstract:
AbstractThe contexts of sociotechnical privacy have evolved significantly in 50 years, with correlate shifts in the norms, values, and ethical concerns in research and design. We examine these eras of privacy from an ethics perspective, arguing that as contexts expand from the individual, to internet, interdependence, intelligences, and artificiality, they also reframe the audience or stakeholder roles present and broaden the field of ethical concerns. We discuss these ethical issues and introduce a principlist framework to guide ethical decision-making, articulating a strategy by which principles are reflexively applied in the decision-making process, informed by the rich interface of epistemic and ethical values. Next, we discuss specific challenges to privacy presented by emerging technologies such as biometric identification systems, autonomous vehicles, predictive algorithms, deepfake technologies, and public health surveillance and examine these challenges around five ethical principles: autonomy, justice, non-maleficence, beneficence, and explicability. Finally, we connect the theoretical and applied to the practical to briefly identify law, regulation, and soft law resources—including technical standards, codes of conduct, curricular programs, and statements of principles—that can provide actionable guidance and rules for professional conduct and technological development, codifying the reasoning outcomes of ethics.

Abstract:
The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sparked a huge debate about its impacts on individuals, cultures, societies and the world. Through AI, we now can either support, manipulate or even replace humans at a level we have not seen before. One of the core values of happy and thriving relationships between humans is empathy, and understanding another person’s feelings builds the foundation of human connection. Within the past few years, the field of AI has taken on the challenge of becoming empathic towards humans to create more trust, acceptance and attachment towards its applications. There are now ‘carebots’ with simple empathic chat features, which seem to be ‘nice to have’, but there is also a concerning development in the field of erobotics—the next (empathic) generation of sex robots, made for humans to fall in love with. The increase in emotional capacity within AI brings into focus how good or bad empathy really is. There is a high risk of manipulation of humans on a deep psychological level, yet there is also reason to believe that empathy is necessary to truly reach an ethical ‘gold’ standard. This chapter will examine empathic AI and its ethical issues with a focus on humanity. It will also touch on the question of what happens if AI becomes more human than humans.

Abstract:
Abstract Ethics has become an increasingly important topic within the development of Artificial Intelligence systems. The anticipated European AI act has a strong foundation in 7 ethical values of the Assessment List for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (ALTAI): human agency and oversight, technical robustness and safety, privacy and data governance, transparency, diversity, non-discrimination and fairness, environmental and societal wellbeing, and accountability. In addition, data management and privacy are other important aspects of responsible AI: from development towards implementation. In many research fields, a form of ethical management or review is common practice. However, in the field of AI and manufacturing this is relatively new. Within the EU project: Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing for Sustainability at SMEs (AIRISE), AI experts will support SMEs active in manufacturing, in the uptake of AI by conducting tailor-made experiments. One requirement for these experiments is the management of ethics, data and privacy. At the same time, AIRISE will also deliver this as a service to SMEs. Ethics management allows for reflection on business processes, safe working and possible improvements. This work presents our way of service delivery, tutoring, training modules and review procedure, based on the ALTAI principles, GDPR and FAIR principles. Our work lays the foundations for compliance to multiple EU legislations such as the AI act and GDPR, delivered in a user-friendly service. In the nearby future, we anticipate optimizing our ethics, privacy and data management services by developing digital tooling. Furthermore, we will thematically analyze the obtained data and identify which ethical issues are important for SMEs and manufacturing. With this knowledge, we aim to further support manufacturing SMEs in their business.

Abstract:
The present study reflected on the role of teachers of architects and civil engineers in the promotion of entrepreneurship as an institutional axis of higher education centers with the aim of identifying the entrepreneurial competencies they possess through a self-diagnosis based on a mixed approach through a survey questionnaire established after a literature review of the subject and considering the opinion of experts. resulting in the profiles of teachers, their knowledge, skills, social roles, character traits, values and motivations that they possess in their classrooms, as well as the learning strategies they use, character traits, values and motivations that they have in their classrooms, as well as the learning strategies that they suggest they use, in contrast to the theory that, It generalizes teachers in their role as facilitators of learning, but there is an opportunity to improve those skills such as communication, and it is important to provide spaces and activities for both teachers and students to socialize with professionals and companies that are currently part of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in their cities. The perceived limitations to achieve success in the entrepreneurial field were also made known and the interest of teachers in continuing to innovate and train to apply and master this knowledge was documented. It is suggested to venture into sustainable social entrepreneurship since it allows to address environmental and socioeconomic projects, promoting a strong ethic and responsible action in the face of various community problems.

Abstract:
A significant number of universities where engineering is taught acknowledge the influence on society and the environment of the scientific and technological practice, as well as the ethical problems it presents, and the need to provide their students with courses covering this as a subject. The accelerated pace of innovation in these fields amplifies the issue. Computer Engineering schools are no exception. So, the IEEE/ACM Computer Science Curriculum 2013, identifies social issues and professional practice as key knowledge areas that computer undergraduate students must learn. Students should be knowledgeable about the interplay of ethical issues, technical problems, and aesthetic values that play an important part in the development of computing systems. The authors have taught for many years an optional course about the social, and environmental aspects of ICT as well as ethics. In this paper, the authors propose an approach to study ethics in Computer engineering schools. The approach consists in providing students with general ethic frameworks to reason about moral dilemmas as well as providing the basics of deontology. The lessons are complemented with case studies where technology is a key factor. Students are assigned roles to work on the cases and in the end, a discussion is done in the classroom. After the lessons, the authors have observed that students are able to understand and use the tools provided by the teachers to reason about moral dilemmas.

Abstract:
In the past few decades a new approach to ethical principles known as ‘particularism’ has become fashionable among moral philosophers. According to the particularist the progress in the field of ethics, is from monism (the view that there is only one moral principle), through pluralism (the view that there are many), to particularism (the view that there are none). Jonathan Dancy advocates a radical particularist theory: arguing against a variety of univer- salist–pluralist doctrines, he maintains that there are no moral principles; and, even if there are, our ethical decisions are highly context-dependent, made case by case, without the sup- port of such principles. In this paper, drawing on a number of theoretical concepts used in science as well as the philosophy of science, and making use of Fethullah Gülen’s insights, I try to develop a mod- erate universalist–pluralist model in defence of universal ethical values and principles. This model, I argue, is less vulnerable to Dancy’s criticisms and better equipped, in comparison to Dancy’s own model, to deal with particular moral cases. While particularism in ethics leads to relativism and leaves moral agents with no clear guidelines, the model developed here could serve all moral agents, regardless of credal or cultural association and socio-political outlook, in making sound and commendable moral judgements.

Abstract:
This paper is part of a series of analyses dedicated to the ethics management in tourism, using theoretical tools of philosophical and applied ethics. It aims: (a) to clarify the meaning of 'practical' ethics in tourism, taking into account the challenges inherent in the field; (b) to examine ethics practical approaches in organisational contexts (with a focus on ethics management); c) to clarify the importance of codes of ethics at the organizational level, their typology and content (values, principles, moral norms); d) to propose a moral theoretical framework for grounding ethics in tourism on four fundamental principles (principle of human dignity, principle of integrity, principle of reciprocity, and principle of precaution); e) to analyse the content of the Global Code of Ethics in Tourism (GCET) in the light of these clarifications. The authors argue in favour of explicitly specifying moral values and principles in codes of ethics, as they play an essential role in building moral organisations, providing their ethical "content" and encouraging the effective practice of virtues by employees.

As technology continues to evolve and computer technology continues to improve, computational empowerment has become an integral part of our lives and work. When humans and machines begin to merge, we must be ready to embrace a whole new philosophy of life. In the field of design, the application of computing technology also provides designers with more tools and resources to create new works more efficiently, but computationally-enabled design also brings a series of ethical issues. In this regard, designers should seriously examine and think about the real function and value of computationally empowered design, and establish a design ethic that adapts to the needs of the times, in order to guide AI in a positive direction to promote social progress. This paper discusses the ethical issues and coping strategies of computationally empowered design in the age of digital intelligence mainly from three aspects and also three spatial and temporal dimensions.

Abstract:
The social services are a value-laden field of employment as work involves frequent ethical decision-making around issues that relate to values, such as end of life, sexuality and so forth. Tensions can exist between individual practitioners, their employment agency and society, concerning ethics and values. This paper presents partial findings from a qualitative study that explored the tensions or issues faced by 16 Christian social-service practitioners working in non-faith-based settings by asking the question, “What tensions do Christian practitioners face in secular organisations?” In particular, we present themes from the findings that show utilisation of Indigenous cultural and/or spiritual practices to strengthen faith and work. The context is Aotearoa New Zealand, where there are unique relationships between religions (both from colonial settlers and Indigenous people), spirituality, secularism and the provision of social services. How these various aspects intersect and affect the Christian practitioner was of interest to this study. This paper may contribute to further research concerning the use of Indigenous practices in modern social services and healthcare.

The paper focuses on the issue of cultural heritage and tourism in the area of the High Tatras that are located in the Spiš region – one of the most significant historical and cultural centres of Slovakia. The study points out the aspects of presenting to the visitors the traditional cultural values of this region that are in socio-cultural and economic contexts. Moreover, we monitor the adequate forms of interpretation of those values in the present conditions of tourism. We aim at the usage of socio-cultural capital of the city in the perspective of sustainable development in the European area. The contribution copes with the long term ethnological field research, which is, predominantly, the basis for the synthesis of the results, and that is completed with the bibliography sources. The main intention of the origin of villages in the Tatra region (spas and tourism), ethnic and social reference of their founders are the essential factors for our conclusions. Those factors have conditioned and influenced many cultural specificities of the inhabitants concerning their identity and cultural roots. This phenomenon is the important determinant of the values of cultural heritage exchange, mainly towards the external visitors of the High Tatras.

Research methods - philosophical and general logical.”New experience” in the field of biotechnology, as a stimulating discussion of anthropological, axiological and social problems, must be guided by the strategy of personal preservation and the methodology of human integrity and have value-worldview attitudes as real prerequisites. In the new ethics, the fundamental principles of two historically established systems - individualism and conciliarism (collectivism) are considered in the form of complement, not contradictory. We are only talking about their ratio and the degree of demand. At the same time, the state and society, and not “personal law”, are of decisive importance.

Abstract:
This report summarizes the results of eight field Jet Erosion Tests (JETs) performed on Benbrook Dam, TX. The results from these tests will be used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, in assessments of the erosion resistance of the Benbrook Dam with regards to possible overtopping by extreme flooding. The JETs were performed at four different locations, i.e., two locations at the lowest crest elevation and two locations at the mid-slope face of the downstream embankment. Variations in estimated critical hydraulic shear stress and erosion rate values may have been caused by differences in soil composition, i.e., when the material changed from silt/sand to clay. The resulting values of the Erodibility Coefficient, Kd, and Critical Stress, τc, are very useful information in assessing the stability of Benbrook Dam during an overtopping event. Because of the observed natural variability of the materials, combining the erosion parameters presented in this report with the drilling logs and local geology will be imperative for assessing erosion-related failure modes of Benbrook Dam.
