The theses examine such a popular bodily practice in the mid-19th century as gymnastics, refracted through the perception of Leo Tolstoy. The object of our analysis is, first of all, the writer’s diaries, in which he noted with certain regularity, in particular, his achievements in gymnastics. At the same time, the study emphasizes the ethical connotations of his perception of bodily activity.
