Abstract:
This chapter investigates enabling factors that promote knowledge sharing among employees in the workplace. The study was conducted on employees of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) as a research case. Banks in particular and financial institutions in general are now becoming knowledge intensive organizations where knowledge is used as a key strategic resource to achieve their business goals as well as competitive advantage. This study uses an exploratory case study research method that allows deeper understanding and interpretation. Although there is plenty of literature on knowledge sharing, existing findings are not consistent due to the influence of contextual factors on knowledge sharing. This study identifies organizational, individual, task characteristics, and technological factors as main enabling factors that promote knowledge sharing in the workplace. Although organizations put much emphasis on technology to promote knowledge sharing in the workplace, non-technological factors (organizational and individual factors) appear more significant. As the study was conducted on a commercial bank within developing economies context, it contributes additional perspectives to confirm or extend existing findings on knowledge sharing.

The given research is devoted to the acute issue of efficiency of valuable assets positioning carried out by commercial banks. The chapter is aimed at examining factors that affect the efficiency of securities placement by commercial banks, as well as an econometric analysis based on the least squares method of the significance of the selected factors and their impact on the efficiency indicator. While researching this issue, the phenomenon of adaptability, which means the higher the price set, is in comparison with the medium price scale, the higher the underpricing at setting with corresponding other equal terms was singled out The methods of critical literature review, statistical analysis, and econometric model creation have been used to justify it. Moreover, the research resulted in model creation, which characterizes the state of a definite commercial bank to be ready for emission of assets by means of initial public offering.

In the post-reform era, quality delivery of the services has acquired centre point of the service industry around the globe. The banking sector being purely a service-related industry has been influenced more by the issue of providing quality service. With the entry of private banks, the banking sector has gone through many transformations including the way services are extended. In a backward state like Assam, this has arrived a little late, but the changes are gradually visible. The chapter captures the service quality standard of the Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) and also for the different bank groups in order to make a comparison. The SERVPERF scale is used to study the replies of the customers in two cities, Guwahati and Tezpur, and some econometric tools are used to analyse the data. The study reveals that the private sector banks are far ahead of the public sector banks in terms of quality of service. The private banks influence the service quality of the SCBs the most among all the bank groups. Overall, the public sector banks, which are the dominant market players, will have to work hard to catch the level of the private banks.

By compiling detailed ownership and political affiliation data on the 20 major commercial banks in 2014, the chapter shows that in 2014, as many as 18 of the 20 banks had major shareholders linked to political elites, who together controlled 43Â?percent of the assets of the sector. “Crony capital” within the banking sector is also shown to be associated with a lower quality of banks’ loans, and with a higher exposure to public debt.

Abstract:
Chapter 1 first restates the present dominant view on the nature and origin of central banking, which can be summarized as follows: (1) Defining central banking is ‘by no means straightforward’; (2) the Riksens Ständers Bank and the Bank of England would have been the first sort-of central banks; (3) early central banks did not have a policy mandate and the orientation towards public objectives would go back only to the nineteenth century; (4) there has been no concept of central banking before 1800; (5) early central banking developed out of the largest commercial banks; (6) the lender of last resort (LOLR) would have developed only in the second half of the nineteenth century or even later. Second, the chapter reviews a recent literature which started again to question this view. It is explained how this book will take up the challenge to correct the myth about the origins of central banking.

Abstract:
The governments, business firms, policymakers, advocacy groups, and even the public recently are hotly debating on the issues of environmentally friendly practices. In this context, being a part of 'going green', green banking, which plays an important role in environmental sustainability, has been a buzzword in the global baking industry. This study identifies how the customers perceive the emerging concept of green banking initiatives of banks and also analyzes the factors that influence such practices of the customers. Using a structured questionnaire, the primary data were collected from 403 commercial banks of Kathmandu valley, Nepal. The awareness index was prepared, and the binary logit model was applied for the econometric analysis. This study observed that the customers are positive towards the environmentally friendly practices of banks and ready to adopt the green banking practices. The research implies that in order to promote environmental sustainability, banks and financial institutions should be able to educate the customers about green banking practices and their benefits.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on debt and equity. Debt is a contractual obligation to pay an amount to a lender on given dates; it may be secured or unsecured. The cost of debt is interest. Banks and other lenders provide the debt in buyouts. This debt may take many forms and be provided by many different market participants, including one or more of commercial banks, debt funds, investment banks, dedicated mezzanine providers, hedge funds or similar specialist funds, or the public markets via high yield bonds. The chapter then provides a brief background of the 2008 global financial crisis. It also addresses the risks of leveraged lending and defines deep discounted securities (DDS) as well as mezzanine finance. Finally, the chapter explains the structure and terms of a standard Loan Markets Association (LMA) leveraged finance contract to give a sense of the size and complexity of the contract and the negotiations surrounding it.
