Abstract:
The Nation as an Ethnie Community. A handful of basic principles and a specifie conception of the nation underlie recommendations of the ‘Commission de la Nationalité’. This conception has its origins in Renan and Fustel de Coulanges who saw the nation as the resuit of the common will to live together on the basis of knowledge and adoption of an inherited past. ‘German’ thinking differs over the means of handling down this past : one view relies on voluntary acceptance and acquisition : the other on membership in an collective unconscious and biological or ethnic transmission. The ‘Commission’ holds that the ethnie heritage of a nation is available to everyone through the school System and active participation in community affairs.

Abstract:
Abstract. In order to evaluate the factors that influence the spatial behaviour of border agglomeration inhabitants and to relate them to the geopolitical Situation, attention is given here to three divided towns in the Baltic Sea region: Haparanda-Tornio, Narva-Ivangorod and Valga/Valka. The three cases represent different geopolitical and ethnical configurations. Boundary theory is discussed as part of (inter)action theory, with particular emphasis on the homogenizing role of the State in contrast to the (inter)action possibilities of individuals living in a border area. In the Haparanda-Tornio study case, a homogenous population on the Finnish side is compared to a more diversified ethnie grouping in Haparanda, Sweden. Here, immigrants from Finland are seen to have an action space directed towards Finland, while bilingual locals act as bridge-builders. In Narva-Ivangorod, the same Russian ethnic group lives on both sides of the boundary, but geopolitical restrictions hamper local cross-boundary interaction. Valga/Valka, in contrast, is divided according to ethnic criteria. Little motivation for border crossing appears to be given, except for the Russian speaking population, which at the same time has the greatest formal difficulties in crossing. The internal European Union borders, both recent and older, thus allow ethnie and linguistic factors to influence the action and communication space of inhabitants. The EU/non-EU boundary restricts the possibilities of local cross-boundary interaction even in situations where the population belongs to the same ethnie group.

Abstract:
Ethnic Community Involvement in the Political Life of Quebec. In application of the Couture-Cullen Agreement, Quebec will determine its own immigration policy and receive 29 000 persons of widely divergent backgrounds in 1989. Immigrants constitute 16% population and 90% live in the Montreal metropolitan area. Ethnic communities participate in community affairs through some 50 ethnic or cross-cultural associations and in advisory bodies such as the Immigration and Ethnic Communities Council. Ethnie community members with Canadian citizenship vote in elections. Although poorly represented in Quebec institutions, ethnic communities are concentrating on the civil service to obtain employment quotas that reflect their population size. Quebec is a multi-ethnic society of non-stop that has to rely on ethnic communities from every horizon for her future.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Arymanians (or Vlachs), a latinophone ethnic minority of the Balkans, are the subject of this exhaustive study whose goal is to define their identity. This ethnic group is studied from several perspectives : historical (from prehistory to the present), anthropological (physical and cultural), ethnographic (linguistic, ethnonyms, distribution in the Balkans). New light is shed on this latin Balkanic ethnic group undergoing rapid acculturation. The study concludes that the Arumanian people represent a survival of the most embedded layer of western civilization. History attests to a continuous presence in their original locus : the Balkanic peninsula

Abstract:
This research geopolitics of zulus has for subject the place and history of zulu for shaka to the new south africa. The differents representations and view of zulus territories are presented ans analysed. But these representations are only the translation of the south africa's imbroglio. Each actor wants to lay down his view. This work presents and relate history and fresco of zulus. Shaka and his conquests war against britannic, bambate rebellion. . . Maps, pictures and diagramme complete the analyse. But this work is in first a french analyse without ideology. Boonwanno, Thanida. "Les Frontières d’une ethnie des frontières : Les Thaïs-Ko-Kong." Thesis, Aix-Marseille, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014AIXM3042.

Full text
Abstract:
The Thai people studied in this research have been separated with the ancient Siamese territory of Patchan Khirikhet or Ko Kong and given to the French colony of Cambodia in 1904. Consequently, they constitute nowadays a Thai ethnic minority in Ko Kong province of Cambodia. From generation to generation, at many occasions the Thais of Ko Kong have decided to cross the borderline to go back to their ancestor's homeland. But the main immigration, the dispersion and the disappearance of many Thais from Ko Kong occurred during the Khmers Rouges period. A majority of the Thai migrants from Ko Kong province have settled down at Khlong Yai district at the extreme East of Trat province, in Thailand. At the present time, Khlong Yai district of Thailand and Ko Kong province of Cambodia are therefore a core trans-boundary area for the Thais of Ko Kong. The aims of this research are at answering three mains questions concerning the ethnogenesis, the dynamic identities of the Thais of Ko Kong and their hegemonic controls of the borderlines and border areas. The Thais of Ko Kong are not an ethnic group. They are an « border ethnic group », a pseudo-ethnic group, who have been formed by their common history of the delimitation of frontiers in 1904 and their migration experiences from Cambodia

Abstract:
This article investigates the fictional narratives written by „Sub-commandante Marcos“ of the Zapatista movement EZLN. It is shown that Marcos uses three distinct frames of reference in his fictional account of the Zapatista guerrilla: an ethnic, a national and a post-national one. Contrary to other studies that emphasize the harmony between the three levels, it can be argued that there exists a fundamental tension between them. There is a tension between the ethnic discourse and the Mexican nationalist discourse which envisions a nation rather than a nation dominated by a single ethno-cultural group. Finally, it can be deduced from these tensions that the EZLN guerrilla is subject to divergent pressures.

Abstract:
In Iraqi Kurdistan, numerous tribes have always actively participated in political life. This research studies the impact of this tribal organization on the geopolitical situation of Iraqi Kurdistan, which leads to a study of the transformation process leading to the regional (federal), recently set up, mode of governing, and of the link between social and political situations, society and State, tribe and government. Based on numerous interviews, the study also uses concepts from several fields: sociology, anthropology, history, geopolitics. After a general introduction (“Great Kurdistan” and Kurdish identity, including religious fact), it provides a detailed picture of the tribes: social and economic structures, relations with the national movement and the State, jash phenomenon (pro-government tribal militias). It then describes the political processes leading from the genesis of the Kurdish national movement in Iraq to the recent emergence of a Regional Government (KRG). Finally it analyses the geopolitical perspectives brought about by the fall of the regime, and the federal Constitution of 2005, dealing with the conflicts between central and regional governments (resources management, disputed territories, peshmerga status). The conclusion gives a try at a picture of the new relations of Kurdish tribes to the political field, and particularly to KRG

Abstract:
THE SEVEN APOSTLES OF THE SLAVS AND THE FORMATION OF THE BULGARIAN “PROTO-NATIONAL” IDENTITY (Summary) Some historians assume that the emergence of national identities in Europe is a result of social changes occurring in the Early Modern era, while others claim that this process was set in motion already in the Later Middle Ages. Similar disputes on the beginnings of the modern Bulgarian nation are also present in historiographic works. The Slavo-Bulgarian History of Paisiy Hilendarski is usually presented as the first clear sign of the emerging Bulgarian nation. The aim of this article is to confirm a proto-national stage in the development of the Bulgarian medieval ethnic community, which was instrumental for the survival and continuation of the Bulgarians as a separate ethnie and, despite the interruptions in the independent existence of the Bulgarian state and church, led to the transformation of this ethnie into a modern nation. The development of the Bulgarian medieval state, founded in 681 (widely accept¬ed date), lacks continuity. It has been interrupted in 1018 by the Byzantine conquest, which provoked deep social, economic and cultural changes and was followed by ethnic changes too. However, former Bulgarian lands, especially the core area around the last capital of the First Bulgarian Empire, Ohrid, retained certain level of ecclesiastical and economic autonomy. In the diocese of the Ohrid Bishopric began to emerge a “proto-national” pantheon, centered around the figures of St Clement of Ohrid and St John of Rila, and promoted by Byzantine prelates like Theophylactus of Ohrid and George Skylitses. The Bulgarians were regarded as a separate ethnie (according to the theory of Anthony Smith) within the limits of the Byzantine Empire, identified by their traditions, culture, language, and by their own patrons and spiritual teachers, who formed their “proto-national” pantheon. This tendency was successfully continued after the restoration of the Bulgarian state in 1185 (again a widely accepted date). The Second Bulgarian Empire had a multieth¬nic composition, including not only Slavic-speaking Bulgarians, but also Pecheneg and Cuman migrants, Vlah population, etc. All these groups, engaged very often in the gov¬ernment of the re-established empire, were centered around the political and state ideol¬ogy of the Bulgarian ‘proto-nationalism”. In the newly formed “pantheon” of national saints were included as “Bulgarians” also people with non-Bulgarian or at least disputed ethnic origin. In their Vitae, written after the liberation from the Byzantines, the question about their ethnic origin was of growing importance. Special place was given to the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, (whose Bulgarian origin and direct links with Bulgaria are at least obscure) and five of their most prominent disciples. They were venerated as Bulgarian saints and became important part of the “proto-national” ideology of the Sec-ond Bulgarian Empire. This attitude has been transferred successfully into the national ideology of the modern Bulgarian nation. Later, in the 16th century, this group of saints was stylized as the Seven Apostles of the Slavs and acquired popularity even among the Greek-speaking clergy. Consequently, Cyril and Methodius, who were representatives of the universalistic Christian culture of the Second Rome entrusted with the task to enlighten the Slavonic peoples and to introduce them to the Holy Scriptures, together with their most prominent disciples, became emblematic figures, actively engaged in the formation of one of the Slavonic “proto-nations” during the Late Middle Ages.

Abstract:
In order to identify existing problems and prospects for the development of the ethno-sports movement in order to further expand the sphere of physical culture and sports in the region, the article analyses the formation and development of ethnic sports in the Sverdlovsk region. The study has been conducted for several years with the employement of such methods as questionnaires and social surveys, the analysis of literature and official documents, the projection method. The survey questions concerned the awareness of students of the Institute of Physical Education regarding the development of ethno-sports in the country and in the region. A low level of awareness of the development of the ethno-sports field among Bachelors of Physical Education was identified, which is a main problem of the subject matter. As a result of the deep research into problems of the promotion of ethnic sports, it was decided to elaborate and implement the pilot project ‘ETHNIC Festival’ aimed at the popularisation of ethnic sports in the city of Yekaterinburg. An analysis of official documents has shown that the region is now actively developing federations for traditional Russian sports, however, they are not very popular among the population. The current activities in the field of ethno-sports are not sufficient to attract the general public to the process. The obtained data indicated the urgency of the popularisation and cultivation of national sport disciplines and competitions. A sociological survey of EthnoFestival participants showed that one of the ways to revive national games and sports is to hold mass events to popularise ethno-culture.

Abstract:
The article presents some research approaches to the fairy-tale folklore of Bulgarians from the Republic of Moldova. According to author, the fairy-tales texts of Bulgarians from the Republic of Moldova, their semantic, symbolic, and structural features should be researched as a local (regional) variant of Bulgarian folklore. Identification of ethno-cultural markers in the fairy-tales of local Bulgarians on some different levels (such as on the subject, ethno-social and spiritual (church-religious) level) will allow to identify some peculiarities in the adaptation process of Bulgarians that migrated in a new ethnocultural zone. As well as to identify the level of preservation of basic ethnic mentality under conditions of new “mental environment”. Thus, the studying of regional ethnic culture is an interdisciplinary research, which allows to discover how localization in time and space affects ethnic culture in general and oral folk art in particular.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to identify ethnic differences in the number of CAG repeats of the androgen receptor gene (AR), anthropometric and hormonal indicators in men of three ethnic groups (Slavs, Buryats and Yakuts) living in the Russa. The androgen receptor mediates the effects of androgens on a wide range of organs and tissues in men. The AR is characterized by polymorphism of CAG repeats, which can be an ethno-dependent trait and determine functional and morphogenetic effects of testosterone. The study established the ethnic differences in the length of CAG repeats between the Slavs, Buryats and Yakuts (23, 24, 25 triplets, respectively), as well as in anthropometric and hormonal indicators. LH concentrations were higher in Buryats than in Slavs or Yakuts, but the testosterone level was the lowest in Buryats compared to Slavs or Yakuts.

Abstract:
The relevance of the research topic is determined by the fact that the number of people involved in the international migration process is increasing annually. On the one hand, it is important to integrate migrant children into the social and cultural system of the host country. On the other hand, it should be taken into account the issue of preserving of their ethnic and cultural identity. In this regard, preserving ethnic and cultural identity of children who migrate with their parents is an important issue. The purpose of this article is to show the opportunity of using distance education methods in preserving migrant children’s ethnical and cultural identity. The research was carried out in 2016-2017 and on the territory of six European countries and in Belgorod region (Russia), and was based on the use of in-depth interviews as well as focus groups with migrants. The results showed the following. First, migrants have difficulties to maintain their ethnic and cultural identity in the host country, it is especially truly for migrant children who much faster than adults can integrate into the host community and lose their ethnic and cultural identity. Secondly, the Internet provides to children an access to wide range of educational resources regardless of the area of their residence. Most of these trainings are conducted in native language, in the traditional ethno-cultural context. Third, the content of distance learning can be individual, depending on age, previous education, personal interests, etc. Fourth, distance education can be used by migrant children as well as the whole migrant community. Fifth, distance education can include a range of disciplines and activities specific to particular ethno-cultural groups of migrants (linguistics, religious studies, history, literature, cooking, crafts, etc.).
