Abstract:
It seems obvious that that educational activity establishes conditions for the development of a person capable of combining ancestral traditions and values while maintaining their distinctive ethnoculture. This paper investigates how integrating ethnocultural material into English for Specific Purposes (ESP) university courses contributes to nation-building and students’ identity development while at the same time exerting impact on ESP curriculum advancement. The empirical part of the research involved 104 first-year engineering students learning English as a foreign language for specific purposes. The experiment demonstrated that exposing students to regional material and enabling them to communicate in English about their region empowers them in their national and regional identity, while contributing to nation-building goals of university education. The findings of the study reveal that integrating ethnocultural material into ESP university courses positively impacts both students’ motivation and their national identity development. Abstract:
This study used a person-centered approach to distinguish groups of bicultural (national and ethnocultural) individuals in culturally diverse Mauritius. We focused on experiences of harmony or conflict among blended bicultural individuals and used representative data from the three numerically largest ethnocultural groups (Hindus, Creoles, and Muslims; Ntotal = 1,768). Cluster analyses indicated three groups of individuals with different identity profiles: conflicted blends (50%), harmonious blends (41%), and low blends (9%). Conflicted compared with harmonious blends were more concerned about keeping their ethnic group distinct and about the societal recognition of cultural diversity. In addition, higher social distance vis-à-vis outgroups was found among conflicted blends compared with harmonious blends. The findings for the three identity profiles are discussed in relation to existing theories on bicultural identity, Mauritius’ approach to ethnocultural diversity, and the country’s three main ethnocultural groups.

In this article the problem of ethnocultural identity formation is considered in the context of the personal development problem, namely, as a person’s awareness of oneself, one’s environment as well as of oneself in one’s relations with other people. Along with the genetically determined prerequisites, ethnocultural identity formation is influenced by sociocultural factors, a person’s real life. The ethnocultural identity phenomenon is closely related to the methodological understanding of the foundations of deep, fundamental life meanings, values, and priorities. Ethnocultural identity and everything that relates to it – roots, historical destinies, ethnic culture, historical memory – are the most important values and life meanings of every person.

Abstract:
Cross-cultural differences in academic discourse as a field of applied linguistic research became mainstream at the end of the 20th century. Two fundamental concepts emerged at that period: one highlighted universal features of academic discourse, the other focused on ethnocultural peculiarities of cognitive and textual structures. Research in the field of academic discourse becomes particularly significant when applied to training and education of academic staff. Accepting the idea of universal features of academic discourse, we, however, tend to support the concept claiming that academic writing style may contain markers of ethnocultural identity of their authors. So, the aim of our research was to identify markers of ethnocultural identity in medical research texts. The study included comparative discourse analysis of research focused medical texts created by English-speaking (ES) and Russian-speaking (RS) authors. The results obtained have drawn us to the conclusion that despite universal features that scientific medical texts of the same genres share, they nevertheless manifest specific properties depending on the linguistic and cultural affiliation of their authors, i.e. markers of ethnocultural identity. This knowledge can contribute to international academic communication.

Abstract:
The article addresses the problem of ethnocultural identity in the context of research by representatives of symbolic interactionism. The problem of ethnocultural identity acquires relevance in the epoch of globalisation, when the differences between nations and ethno-social groups are erased, ignoring the folk traditions, customs, rituals, i.e. the historically and culturally established values that distinguish one nation from another, on the one hand, and enrich the multinational culture of their country, on the other hand. The purpose of the study is to reveal the conditions for the formation of ethnocultural identity and the factors influencing it. The works by G.H. Mead, C.H. Cooley, E. Goffman, J. Habermas and other authors were analysed within the framework of the research. The study revealed that the formation of ethnocultural identity involves assimilation of the values, norms, beliefs of “own” socio-cultural community, which is possible in the process of social interaction, in the course of meaningful communication in terms of symbolic interactionism.

Abstract:
This article examines relationships between social identities and acculturation strategies of Russians (the ethnic minority) in the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania (RNO-A). The sample included 109 grandparent–parent–adolescent triads from ethnically Russian families ( N = 327). We assessed acculturation strategies, ethnic and national identities (identification with the Russian Federation), republican identity (with the RNO-A), regional identity (with North Caucasus), and religious identity. EFA combined five identities in two factors, labeled Russian ethnocultural identity (comprising ethnic, national, and religious identities) and North-Caucasian regional identity (comprising identities involving the republic and region). The means of the identity factors remained remarkably stable across generations, with a somewhat stronger Russian ethnocultural identity. A structural equation model revealed that Russian ethnocultural identity was a negative predictor of assimilation (the least preferred acculturation strategy), whereas North-Caucasian regional identity was a positive predictor of integration (the most preferred strategy) in all generations. We concluded that Russian ethnocultural identity is important for maintaining the heritage culture whereas North-Caucasian regional identity promotes participation of ethnic Russians in the multicultural North-Ossetian society.

The article considers ethnocultural features of the identity crisis manifestations as a psychosocial phenomenon of modern society. Unstable sociocultural environment, rapidly changing living conditions and identity problems associated with these changes determine the relevance of this work. The article discusses various approaches to the study of the phenomenon of identity. The goal of this work is comprehensive examination of ethnocultural identity, which is a structural element of the social identity of a person, a psychological category that characterizes a person’s awareness of his / her belonging to a certain ethnic and cultural community. Its main functions - orienting and defensive - are crucial in the era of globalization transformations, helping the individual to maintain integrity and sociocultural uniqueness. In most cases, ethnic identity does not dominate among other components of personality identity, but at the same time, it allows a person to feel and determine his / her uniqueness, subjectivity, originality, find the answer to the questions “Who am I?” in this world and determine the attitude to his/her and other ethnic communities. The feeling of belonging to an ethnic group gives an answer to the question “Who are we?”, and belonging to a cultural community makes it possible to understand “What are we?” Values, acting as a guiding function, show what is important in life of a person and society, and determine the motivation and goals of the desired changes. The work also raises the question of the causes of the ethnocultural identity crisis. Deformation of the value system is considered as one of the main determinants of the identity crisis. Practical application of this work can be found in the area of dialogue of cultures to carry out a multicultural policy in modern context.

The article is devoted to the study of places of worship in traditional Mari culture, which are in varying degrees of sacredness. They have so far preserved artifacts and symbols that form the cultural identity of the people. The Mari religion in the most complete local traditions preserves the system of pagan cults and rites. The trend towards the revival of pagan religion and the creation of religious organizations and communities is associated with a general upsurge in national identity. This became necessary in the context of national movements as a means of ethnic self-defense and a factor of ethnocultural revival. Original ethnocultural traditions and formative elements of folk architecture are relevant and important in the design of modern architectural complexes and the creation of small architectural forms in folk architecture, landscape design, and the formation of an ethnocultural environment. Further sacralization of places of worship will contribute to the preservation of natural monuments and the manifestation of artifacts and symbols of cultural identity.

Using a narrative approach, we explored acculturation gaps, parent-child relationships, and conflict (intergenerational conflict and ethnocultural identity conflict) in a sample of immigrant Arab Canadian emerging adults. Our findings revealed that perceived acculturation gaps co-occurred with intergenerational conflict (Theme 1) and ethnocultural identity conflict (Theme 2). Furthermore, the parent–emerging adult relationship was observed to play a role in the co-occurrence of perceived acculturation gaps and conflict. Specifically, participants described strong parent–emerging adult relationships as minimizing the co-occurrence of perceived acculturation gaps and intergenerational conflict (Theme 3), as well as perceived acculturation gaps and ethnocultural identity conflict (Theme 4). On the other hand, participants described weak parent–emerging adult relationships as exacerbating the co-occurrence of perceived acculturation gaps and intergenerational conflict (Theme 3), as well as perceived acculturation gaps and ethnocultural identity conflict (Theme 4). We presented these analyses using thick and rich data extracts from the participants themselves.

Abstract:
This article aims to explain ethnocultural neo-traditionalism as a tool for the formation of ethnic and national identity and for identification of possible interconnection and synergy of these types of identity. The authors interpret ethno-cultural neo-traditionalism and identity problems as the global manifestation of ambiguous consequences of the contemporary socio-cultural transformations. They argue for treating it as a resource for the formation of ethnic and national identity, analyzing the problems and contradictions arising in this case. The potential possibilities of the proposed conceptual scheme are illustrated by two illustrative cases: Breton (Celtic people in France) and Selkup (Siberian people in Russia). In order to achieve this goal, besides the case study, the authors have used sociocultural approach in its authorial interpretation, which allows considering ethnocultural neo-traditionalism, first, as an inter-cultural phenomenon — the effect of interaction between different ethnocultures — and second, as an integrative policy that consolidates the potential of the ethnos in synchrony and diachrony. The analysis of Breton neo-traditionalism from the abovementioned positions allowed to reveal such features as participation in the Breton cultural movement of authentic bearers of tradition, its transmission to new generations through direct immersion in a living tradition, participation in the movement of families and its mass character, absence of borders between spectators and performers, accumulation of various modifications and local variations of cultures, enrichment of tradition with modern elements and experimentation, urban localization of holidays, formation of cultural industry, and organization of international cultural festivals, inclusive of various social and cultural practices. Such experience, presented in the Selkup cultural movement, forms and confirms a positive ethnic identity with the assistance of the state. Cultural expansion and international recognition of ethnocultural non-traditionalism practices remove the problem of local ethno-political ambitions and strengthen national identity as a prerequisite for the development of ethnic identity. Thus, the analysis shows the possibilities of cooperation, synergy of national and ethnic identities based on the implementation of the strategy of ethno-cultural non-traditionalism.

In the system of common Kazakhstani culture, the civil and ethnocultural models of the nation are the poles or attractors of the process of self-organization of a single nationwide Kazakhstan identity. The optimal identity politics in the nation-building risk management in the conditions of modern Kazakhstan is to adopt the point of view of the whole set of identification models and to maintain the dynamic balance of conflicting identities through the mechanism of mutual checks and balances.

Modern ethnocultural processes taking place among the indigenous peoples of the northern and Arctic territories, the current state and issues of broadcasting and preserving their ethnic identity are one of the topical research topics of the world scientific community. The attention to the Ket ethnocultural group is justified by its uniqueness as the last representatives of the Yenisei group of peoples. Research immersion into the foundations of the formation of the modern ethnocultural image of the Kets, including in the information and media space, reveals the need to refer to the cultural memory of the Kets, the basic foundations of their ethnocultural identification. Thus, the study of the representation of Kets in the media space makes it possible to fix the modern information image and visualization features of the Ket ethnocultural group.

Authors of the article pay a special attention to the consideration of traditions and innovations in the dynamics of ethnosocial organism development, since the last decade, the blurring of lines of ethnocultural identity on a global scale has become more obvious. Aggressive penetration into the territory of many states by a pro-Western faceless pseudo culture led to a loss of life orientation at the genetic level and the prospects for the existence of most ethnic groups. The aim of work is to search, identify and analyze the main structure-forming principles, the main provisions of which can preserve a unique and inimitable core of ethnocultural organism in a practical application, give a vector of a further more qualitative state. Methods. Using the principles of formal logic, functionalism, and a systematic approach, it was possible to determine the stages of the origin, transformation, and structural integration of cultural innovations in the ethnic environment. Characteristics of each stage from the side of a positive direction as well as a negative one, leading to the degeneration and decay of the ethnocultural system, is presented. As a result of the study, methodological approaches to preserving ethnic cultures, based on traditional ties in relations within the people were identified. These principles are, in authors’ opinion, invariable mechanisms of the dynamic, progressive development of any ethnic group, if the ethnocultural identity of all mankind is perceived as a conscious, creative way for the development and preservation of an ethnos.

Increased cultural contacts between representatives of different ethnic groups affect the process of self-identification of their members. Especially it concerns migrant communities. Examination of the problem of ethnicity is especially important due to the fact that the ethnic community exists until there are ethnoconsolidating factors. Within the framework of this research factors of Samaras Azerbaijanis ethnic identity were revealed. Representatives of the Azerbaijani community of Samara base their own identity on differential features. Language is the most important factor of ethnic identity. The Azerbaijani language is the most functional in communication with relatives, friends and acquaintances, in the family. The intensity of intra-ethnic contacts leads to the necessity of language skills and stimulates stable reproduction of the ethnic group. Language skills are transmitted to children from their parents and older relatives. The recent trend in East Central European jurisprudence is that courts apply an ethnocultural understanding of identity, thereby putting European integration in peril. Although the EU is clearly committed to shared values and principles, Article 4(2) of the Treaty on European Union emphasizes that “the Union shall respect the national identities of the Member States.” Due to the recent migration flow in Europe, the Member States are currently attempting to (re)define themselves and offer a legal definition of identity. East Central European Member States, by labelling ethnocultural national identity as constitutional identity, apply Article 4(2) as a means of derogating from some of their obligations under EU law. Despite the vast literature available on national identity and its role in EU law, little attention has been paid to the recently emerging trend of judicial reinvention of identity in East Central Europe. This is what this Article offers. It focuses on the Visegrád Group, which consists of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. The Visegrád countries (V4) are united in their views on rejecting migrant relocation quotas in the EU and define their exclusionary constitutional identities accordingly. The main subject of the Article is the relevant case law of the V4 constitutional courts. These courts have the authoritative role in enforcing nation-state policies based upon ethnocultural considerations. The Article provides a comparative-analytical description of the judicial interpretations of constitutional identity in these countries based on which we can better understand the recent East Central European trend of disintegration.

The article presents the preliminary results of a comprehensive study on the social anthropology of the cultural landscape of the Khatango-Anabar region as an integral historical and cultural space, formed as a result of the interaction of man and nature, local ethnic communities and social institutions. The purpose of the article is to study the regional ethno-cultural identification of the population living in one of the Arctic regions of Yakutia - Anabar. The field research, including interviews, a sociological survey, and a psycholinguistic experiment revealed indicators for determining the ethnocultural identity. Three main criteria of ethnocultural identity of residents of Anabar district were identified. These are territorial, cultural and linguistic ones. It was found that the unifying indicator of the population living in this area is regional identity as Anabarians.

This study examines and evaluates the representation of ethnocultural diversity in non-fiction TV programmes broadcasted by the Flemish (Belgian Dutch-speaking) public service broadcaster VRT in the 2016–2017 TV season. A qualitative content analysis of a sample comprising 36 clips and episodes of 14 non-fiction programmes was supplemented by four focus group interviews with a total of 12 participants belonging to different ethnocultural minorities. The findings suggest that despite several measures undertaken by the VRT, the representation of ethnocultural minorities is still unbalanced and biased in at least three ways: first, in presenting minorities as homogeneous groups rather than highlighting intragroup differences; second, in ‘typecasting’ people with a migration background thematically, i.e., for items on topics and issues related to their ethnocultural identity; and, third, in portraying and approaching minorities from a dominant group perspective. The article ends with the recommendation for public service media to further improve ethnocultural diversity in the workforce and to encourage their journalists and TV producers to reconsider their ‘professional pragmatics’ in order to increase their ethnocultural sensitivity and better manage the representation of super-diversity in their programmes.

The article shows how the language of the nation, the spiritual values of the nation, the cultural code of the nation, the cultural identity of the nation, consciousness, customs and traditions of the nation, which form the basis of ethnocultural information, are reflected in conversations. History shows that the authors managed to accurately combine ethnocultural information with the realities of the Kazakh people of that period. It also analyzes the effectiveness of modern technologies in teaching ethnocultural information.

Social regulation is considered as a soft way of influencing social actors, which presupposes an increase in the role of regional authorities. It has been recorded that using the potential of ethnic culture can be an effective strategy for regulating the economic development of a region. Using the example of the Tuvinian ethnoculture, the paper identifies its specific substantial components that have the potential to increase regional economic indicators. The negative consequences of using the Tuvinian ethnoculture, which are manifested in the value-ethical transformations of ethnic identity, are also recorded. It is concluded that in the region it is necessary to increase the prestige of applied ethnocultural education, intra-regional differentiation of the production of ethnic goods, support for a high quality standards of those components of ethnic culture that have already gained popularity in Russia and across the world.

The article is based on materials of ethnographic research among Ukrainians who live in the north of the Kulunda steppe (in the south of Western Siberia). onsidered are mythological images and plots about witches, mermaids, infernal dead (vampires), methods of protection from them. Differences were found among local groups of immigrants from the Kiev and Poltava provinces who arrived in Siberia at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. It was found that the image of a mermaid among the Kiev immigrants in Siberia coincides with the beliefs of the Polesie region. The differences are related to the peculiarities of ethnocultural traditions and folk beliefs of the original regions. These features can be markers of the ethnocultural identity of local groups of Siberian Ukrainians.

The article examines the problem of the functioning of the Ukrainian ethnocultural tradition in the context of modern challenges and threats. Emphasis is placed on the need to preserve the national cultural heritage of Ukrainians and the role of cultural and spiritual priorities that form a full-fledged socio-cultural environment and values of the younger generation. The peculiarities of the creation of cultural space in Ukraine and the forms of existence of Ukrainian folklore in the socio-cultural environment are considered, taking into account the challenges and threats of the modern world. The essence of folk traditions and customs as spheres of cultural and spiritual heritage, which influence the communicative organization of people with certain life values, is substantiated. The article considers the essence of the Ukrainian ethnocultural space as an object of Ukrainian studies. It has been proved that ethnoculture is an important factor in the unity of a nation and is an indicator of ethnic and national identity among other peoples, as well as one of the factors of the revival and preservation of national memory. It should be noted that such categories as ethnicity, mentality, national traditions, customs, cultural and ideological components play a significant role in the content of national memory. Folk traditional culture is also a socio-cultural segment of national memory, which potentially helps to consolidate Ukrainian society. It is revealed that Ukrainian culture has long been leveled, censored, ideologically pressured, and destroyed, especially during the Soviet era, but despite the difficulties. Now it is a national and cultural revival of Ukrainian ethnocultural heritage, which is a priority for preserving Ukrainian identity and establishing the independence of the Ukrainian nation in the world. It is proved that ethnoculture highlights the inexhaustible and multifaceted talent of Ukrainians, who are the bearers of folk art. Therefore, responding to modern challenges and threats, changes in the social and political life of the country, new genres of folklore, new types of folk art (youth subculture; graffiti; political anecdotes, such as the genre of laughter culture, etc.) are created in information and cultural space, ridiculing and condemning conflict situations and negative phenomena in society. The Ukrainian nation is modernizing, is actively creating its cultural space despite the influence of the ideology of the "Russian world", despite the economic troubles, the military conflict in the east of our state. The article emphasizes the role of Ukrainian ethnoculture as a component of national culture, which has great potential in establishing Ukraine in the world cultural space, is a powerful factor of deconflicting of Ukrainian society and a consolidating factor of the political unity of Ukrainians, especially in modern hybrid warfare.

It reveals that the priority of his research is ethnocultural studies, which in the days of post-Soviet Ukraine acquired perfection and systematic comprehension. It is discovered that the works of the scientist are marked by the thoroughness of the latest methodological approaches, the scale of the issue (from ancient history, Ukrainogenesis, to modern events and reflections on the place of Ukraine among world civilizations), high scientific erudition, and depth of knowledge. It is proved that L. Zalizniak offered the concept of the origin of the Ukrainian people not only to the scientific community, but to the whole Ukrainian society. This concept is based on a deep understanding of the laws specific for the historical process of peoples’ formation and nations’ development. It is substantiated that the scientist continues working on improving this concept, constantly deepening the most important issues of Ukrainian genesis, the formation of the Ukrainian state, the stages of formation of the Ukrainian nation, the place of Ukraine among world civilizations, and more. It is found that the concept of the origin of the Ukrainian people built by prominent scientists is of great political importance, as it is a solid and reliable basis for the establishment of the independent Ukrainian state, while popularization of this concept in the people's consciousness helps preserve the identity of the Ukrainian people in modern ethnocultural space. It is noted that L. При этом религиозная идентичность рассматривается в неразрывной взаимосвязи с этнокультурной и как ее важнейшая составляющая. Выявление подобных материалов представляется актуальным, поскольку позволяет впоследствии осуществить метод интеграции архивных и полевых этнографических источников и получить более достоверную картину особенностей этнокультурной идентичности русских и ее трансформаций в условиях иноэтнического окружения и поликонфессиональной среды. Рассмотрение наблюдений миссионеров начала ХХ в. особенно интересно тем, что отражает процессы, последовавшие за провозглашением свободы совести в 1905 г. По рассматриваемым материалам прослеживается активизация религиозной деятельности старообрядцев и охлаждение к церкви православных. Также наблюдается своеобразная конкуренция православной церкви и старообрядческих общин за своих прихожан, особенно актуальной проблема становится в смешанных в конфессиональном отношении населенных пунктах. Прослеживаются процессы трансформации идентичности, такие как переходы из православия в старообрядчество и, реже, наоборот, также переходы из одного старообрядческого согласия в другое, что, безусловно является интереснейшим проявлением трансформации этнокультурной идентичности. Выявляются наиболее распространенные причины таких переходов, по большей части связанные с практическими соображениями, такими как желание вступить в брак, часто повторный, или получить более выгодные экономические условия. Миссионеры в своих записках выделяют также ряд важнейших этнокультурных маркеров принадлежности к старообрядчеству, не только обрядовых, но и связанных с внешним видом, одеждой, приятием или неприятием некоторых новых явлений жизни. В целом, можно говорить о том, что в начале ХХ в. в Горном и предгорном Алтае наблюдается достаточно пестрый этнокультурный состав русского населения и разнообразные процессы трансформации этнокультурной идентичности. The research is dedicated to revealing and analyzing of archival materials from the fund of the Altai ecclesiastical mission (State archive of the Altai Krai, Fund 164) that concern the specifics of ethnocultural identity of the Russian population who lived at the territory (Gorny Altai and low elevational parts of the Altai) that referred to the running of this mission. The religious identity of the people is seen as closely connected to the ethnocultural identity and is its important integral part. The finding of these materials is believed of much relevance, for it allows using the method of integration of archival and field ethnographical resources and further obtaining of a more clear picture of the specific features in the ethnocultural identity of the Russians, and how it was transformed in conditions of the foreign surrounding and multiconventional environment. The study of the observations of missionaries of the 20th century is especially interesting due to its potential to reflect processes that followed the declaration of freedom of worship in 1905. The studied materials show a growing activity in the sphere of religion among Old Believers and alienation from church among the Orthodox believers. The research reveals a particular competition between the Orthodox church and the communities of Old Believers to have more parishioners, which was a specially evident problem at settlements with confessionally mixed relationships. The research discovers processes of transformation of the identity of people, such as transferring of from the Orthodox church to Old Believers and on the contrary visa versa, what is still noticed much rarer. There were cases of leaving one Old Beleivers’ community for another, and these cases most interesting explosion of the transformation processes of the ethnocultural identity. The work also names the most common reasons of these transformative changes, which were largely dependent on practical perspectives of the people, including willing to get married again, or acquiring a more lucrative economic conditions. The missionaries note in their records a number of most essential ethnocultural markers that belong to the Old Belief, such markers that not only concern rituals, but referring to the outlook of a person, his clothes, accepting or not accepting some new things in life. In general, one can say that in the beginning of the 20th century in Gorny Altai and its neighboring low elevations in Russia the ethnocultural composition of the Russian population was quite varied and was subject to different transformation processes of the ethnocultural identity.

The article considers the current features of ethnocultural identification and interethnic relations of Samara Tatars by examining their urban community, which formed in the 18th–20th centuries. The study is aimed at de-termining the features associated with the formation and preservation of the ethnocultural identity of Samara Tatars, as well as the practice of their interethnic interaction in a metropolis. The research is based on the materi-als of a field survey of Samara Tatars conducted by the authors in 2017–2019, as well as on the analysis of statis-tical and published data on the history and current situation in the Tatar community of Samara. The research methodology is based on the concept of ‘ethnic boundaries’ formed in the course of intra-ethnic and interethnic interaction, within which individual and group forms of ethnic identity are manifested. The study focuses on the cultural and linguistic characteristics of the community under study (language, material culture, religious and ritual traditions, etc.), which determine the nature of interethnic contacts and the features of ethnocultural identification in the group. The study revealed that the origin, nationality of parents and ancestors constitute the basis of ethnic identity of Samara Tatars, which, despite the loss of the language, ensures ethnic reproduction of the group. The Tatar language plays a significant role in the formation of ethnic identity and intra-ethnic communication for a sig-nificant part of Samara Tatars; however, it is functionally inferior to the Russian language in the private and public spheres. The role of the kinship group is significant; thanks to it, ethnic traditions in diet, as well as in the spheres of religion and festivities are mastered and observed. Despite the fact that a number of elements have lost their original, utilitarian significance in culture, they continue to influence the process of ethnic identification of commu-nity members as symbolic markers of ethnicity. Folk heritage, as well as professional culture, make a certain con-tribution to the foundation for the ethnicity of Samara Tatar. The activities of Tatar public organisations also con-tribute to transmitting ethnocultural experience to the younger generation. The long history of the urban Tatar community in Samara constitutes a powerful resource for the local ethnocultural identification of its members as ‘Samara Tatars’, as well as an incentive for integration into the modern multicultural space of the region.

Abstract:
Goal of the article: Conduct research on the territorial organization of museums of different levels and types in the communities of Chernivtsi oblast as important objects of ethnocultural potential of the region. Identify the distribution of museums by different classification criteria and trace their importance for the development of certain types of tourism. Research methodology. To obtain information, various sources of information were first studied, namely: literary, official Internet portals of communities and districts of Chernivtsi Oblast State Administration and Chernivtsi Oblast Council. At the next stage, a fairly detailed database was formed, which reflects the types of museums according to all the classification features presented in the work, as well as their ethnicity. This allowed to establish the contribution of each ethnic group in the formation of ethnocultural potential of the region, which allows us to talk about cooperation with neighboring countries in the framework of ethnocultural interaction. Results of the research. Chernivtsi oblast is a striking example of ethnocontact and polyethnic region, in which Ukrainians, Romanians, Moldovans, Jews, Russians, Poles, Armenians and other ethnic groups created and continue to create their cultural heritage. Ukrainians in the region own 152 museums, Romanians – 12, Moldovans – 14, Russians – 1. Also, separate exhibitions are dedicated to the Jewish, Polish, German, Armenian and other ethnic groups. Of course, such differences in the ethnicity of museums, as an important component of ethnocultural development of the region, are of great practical and scientific importance. The scientific novelty lies in the development of a detailed classification of museums and their typology, as well as in identifying the place of museums in the ethnocultural development of the polyethnic region. These studies should be conducted in other regions of our country. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of finding investments to increase the tourist attractiveness of both individual administrative units and the region as a whole. Museums also play an important role in shaping the ethnic, historical, ethnocultural, national-patriotic and other perceptions of the territory and identity of their people.

There is a notorious typology of ‘conceptions of nationhood’, which opposes ‘ethnocultural’ conceptions to political or ‘civic’ conceptions of nationhood. Analytically, the typology is unsatisfactory, as are its normative and explanatory applications. A more multidimensional analysis of elements of national identity is proposed, which clarifies some possible meanings of ‘ethnic’, ‘cultural’ and ‘political’ in this context. These considerations are then applied to the case of German national identity.

Abstract:
The goal of this research is the comparison of identity factors that contribute to strengthening and determination of affiliation of an ethnocultural group in a foreign language environment. The subject of this research is the examination of peculiarities of language factors as an element of preservation of identity and identification of a minority ethnocultural group of Molokans residing in the territory of Azerbaijan since the early XIX century. The author reviews certain identity structures of the Molokans that assist preservation and unification of the group. Research methodology is based on the sociolinguistic practice, surveys and interviews carried out in the rural localities Ivanovka and Novosaratovka, as well as places of residence of the Molokans in Azerbaijan. The scientific novelty consist in comparative study of Molokans in the two regions of Azerbaijan, their views upon identity, lifestyle and living conditions, and linguistic peculiarities. A conclusion is drawn that Molokans consider themselves Russians; the role of language within the identity structure of Molokans plays a crucial role; language factor dominates in formation of ethnic identity and ethnic mentality, which develops in the early childhood. The results of this work can be valuable in studying the language factor as the basis in preservation of identity of small-numbered peoples after migration.
