Abstract:
This study attempts to answer the main question: are there reciprocal effects between the variances of the stock returns in the Saudi market, also the answer to a sub-question. What are the leading stocks in the Saudi market?. Study selected a sample of five stocks representing the basic materials, banking, services, food and transport sectors (SABIC, Al Rajhi, Etisalat, Almarai and Al Bahri respectively). The data sample for the period from 2011 to 2016 is taken, which represents the lifespan of the five-year plan. Daily stock returns were calculated during this period. Study applies the M GARCH-VEC methodology to estimate stock return variances and then perform a multiple regression of five equations using the ARCH Heteroscedasticity estimator. Results of the analysis show a positive effect between stock return variances as well as a positive automatic variance of all stocks returns variances. Finally, the results of the regression analysis of the various equations show that the returns variances of SABIC and Al Rajhi stocks have a dominant impact on the rest of the stock's returns. So they are considered as leading stocks in the market. While the variances returns of Etisalat, Almarai and Al Bahri have a limited impact on the rest of the stocks variances returns, so they are considered as minor stocks

Abstract:
Purpose There are over 263m out-of-school children in the world, and Nigeria is not an exception to the problem facing basic education. Education provides the necessary skills and knowledge needed by people in other to live a better life. The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of multinational corporations (MNC) towards basic education development in Nigeria using Etisalat Telecommunication as a case study. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative method of data collection and analysis was used for the study. Interviews were conducted with 15 participants. NVivo software was utilized in transcription, coding and analysis of data from the interview conducted. Findings Findings from the research revealed that Etisalat has made a significant contribution towards the development of the education sector in Nigeria, particularly basic education. This is evident in “adopt a school” initiative across the country. Etisalat intervention is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4: quality education, which has led to improved infrastructure, school enrolment and most importantly improved quality of learning. Practical implications This study will help educational institutions, government and international organization explore ways of utilizing private funds to develop basic education, not only in Nigeria but other climes around the world. Originality/value This study adds to the literature on the role of non-state actors, especially MNC, towards developing the education sector in Nigeria. Previous studies have focussed on MNCs in other sectors; the use of Etisalat Telecommunication opens a new frontier in understanding the role of telecommunications MNCs in developing basic education in Nigeria.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the service quality of wireless telecommunication services in the UAE. Design/methodology/approach This study uses the five dimensions of SERVQUAL instrumentation (reliability, assurance, tangibility, empathy and responsiveness) that are believed to represent service quality to approach a result of service quality level through comparing customers’ expectations to their perceptions. A SERVQUAL survey was constructed and distributed among a total number of 100 Etisalat users from four different age groups. Findings The results showed a significant difference between users’ expectations and the current level of quality of services in tangibility dimension of quality. The other variables were ranked in this order, assurance, reliability, responsiveness and empathy in service quality. Research limitations/implications The research findings encompass individuals from society only and may not be practical to generalize the findings to business organizations or industries as they have special offers and packages designed for their nature of the study. Practical implications This research is intensely valuable for Etisalat telecommunication company as it reflects and rates their service provided to the individuals of the society (citizens and residents) from five different critical dimensions. Consequently, it offers the firm the chance to improve the negative gaps in their services. Thus, higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. Originality/value This study demonstrated that a multi-cultural society could influence customers’ expectations and perceptions of service quality. The study results showed opposing expectations and perceptions to the same dimension from people of the same age group. The highest gaps were found to be in the tangibility and assurance dimensions whilst the lowest gap was found in the empathy dimension.

Abstract:
AbstractThe telecommunication industry is one of the service industries that is most affected by the problem of subscribers’ churn. Although several techniques have been used to predict customer churn in developed countries, many of those studies used secondary data which are not readily available in Nigeria for researchers. This study investigates how Markov chains help in modelling and predicting the customer churn and retention rate in the Nigerian mobile telecommunication industry. The data generated through the survey were input in the Windows-based Quantitative System for Business (WinQSB) for analysis. The results reveal that in the study area MTN has the highest retention rate (86.11%), followed by GLO (70.51%), Airtel (67%), and Etisalat (67.5%). This result has implications for telecom firms’ strategies for competitive advantage in particular and survival in general.

Abstract:
This study compares per second billing system of network providers such as MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, ETISALAT and VISAFONE in Nigeria. The area of research cluster in this study is to assess price, usage and beneficial Comparisons among communication companies (Network providers) along with their market competition in Nigerian economy and to evaluate the factors that influence the decisions of Nigerian telecommunication commission on price changes. Data of network subscribers and other network bundles were collected via Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) database and other valuable medium. Comparison of active, inactive and installed capacity was inferred using multiple bar charts for efficient comparison. The study, with the aid of drift analysis, surveyed the effects of the competition on availability, quality and cost of telecommunications services in Nigeria. The method of price comparison employed in this study centered on the five telecommunication network operators’ tariff plans (both prepaid and postpaid), an approach which defined separate service price data on the basis of service usage levels, service merits, economic factor, tariff rate and accessibility. This study showed that, telephone density (teledensity) increased from 97.60 to 108.11. It was inferred that, Visafone offers better per second billing system, follow by MTN Nigeria. Airtel Nigeria per second billing system is also moderate; Globacom Limited followed Airtel Nigeria; Etisalat tariff rate would have follow Visafone as the second best had it been it does not offers its service with access fees. It was observed according to the official data that, MTN Nigeria has the highest number of subscribers, follow by Globacom Limited, Airtel Nigeria, Etisalat and Visafone Limited in rapid succession. Hence, factors that determine the rate of subscription to individual network service among others, include, age of the network, quality service render, network coverage, tariff rate, accessibility, benefits, etc.

Abstract:
In this study, an investigation of radiofrequency power density distribution around GSM mast in Keffi town, Nigeria was determined. Radiofrequency meter (Electrosmog ED- 155A) was used to measure the EM radiation at 50, 70, 90,110, 130, 150, 170, and 190 m away from mobile base stations. A total of fifteen mobile base stations were randomly selected in Keffi town covering about four network providers (MTN, Globacom, Etisalat, and Airtel), according to their proximity to buildings, number of antennas mounted on their masts, how close they are to other base stations and the population density around them. The result reveal that MBS5 was found to have the highest value of average power density compared to that of the remainder, with a contribution of about 16% (2908.38 µW/m2). The least contribution was recorded in MBS3 with only about 1% (173.71 μW/m2). The other MBS with significant contribution are MBS6 (15%), MBS11 (15%), MBS10 (13%), MBS8 (13%) and MBS13 (11%) with average power densities of 2878.72μW/m2, 2767.28μW/m2, 2385.43 μW/m2, 2382.70 μW/m2, and 1996.36 μW/m2 respectively. The findings reveal that the measured values of power densities across all the sites are well below the RF radiation exposure safety limit set by International Commission on Non-ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) when compared with the findings in this study. Therefore, RF radiation exposure from mobile base stations in Keffi town may pose no health risk to the people living within the area.

Abstract:
The emergence of mobile phone telecommunication in the last thirteen years in Nigeria has greatly revolutionized the dynamics of information exchange and usage by group of individuals in the country. Unlike the past years before 2001 whereby physical contacts and/or letter writing were the major means of interaction between individuals that are farther apart on geospatial dimension, spatial interaction is now the order of the day as a result of institutionalisation of the mobile telephony services in the country. By virtue of the telecom sector deregulation in 2001 and competition for dominance by the four major mobile phone network providers in the country, namely Airtel, MTN, Globacom and Etisalat, as much as 162, 719, 517 lines were actively connected in the country with a teledensity of 94.4 as at July 2014. Based on this, exploitation of the communication tools by Nigerian has effected a transformed social and economic condition of the country in terms of attraction of investors into the telecom sector, generation of income for the Nigerian Government, creation of employment opportunities, ease of business and financial transactions as economic impacts. The social impacts of the mobile phone revolution in the country include facilitation of prompt interactive linkages and exchange of information, entertainment and social networking. Other forms of impacts include its influence on educational and health services in the country. Despite the transformation impact of the mobile phone revolution in the country, exploitation of the communication tool for social vices by unscrupulous individuals was too obvious to be underplayed. The negative impacts arising from nefarious acts-mediated mobile phone usage include loss of hard earned income by unsuspecting individuals to swindlers, road accidents as a result of usage of phone while on the wheel and provision of deceptive information by one person to the other while on phone. This notwithstanding, the telecom sector has proven to be of great value to most Nigerian's as it enabled them to readily interact with one another, facilitate business and financial transactions thereby enhancing their social and economic wellbeing.
