Abstract:

How is it possible to understand a specific cultural determination of human praxis, especially the productive and consumptive one, without falling into ethnologising human subjects in their everyday forms of reproduction, or constructing biological fixations? The former senior faculty of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) Bolívar Echeverría (Riobamba, Ecuador 1941 – Mexico City 2010), who does not limit human culture to its ‘elevated’ forms and bases his analysis in the precise manner of material reproduction, finds an adequate image of this relationship between freedom and tradition, between individuality and a historically- and geographically-determined collectivity. This image lies in human languages, their innumerable speech acts and in a science that studies the relation of interdependence among them: semiology.

Abstract:

This study aims to analyze attitudes on the campaign of 100% love Indonesia, ethnosentrime level of consumers and willingness to buy local products Indonesia. Furthermore, we want to examine the influence of attitude on 100% of Indonesia love campaign and consumer ethnocentrism on willingness to buy local product of Indonesia. Smpel in this research is 100 people, taken by purposive sampling method and then analyzed to data obtained by using quantitative analysis. Quantitative analysis includes: test of validity and reliability, test of classical assumption, multiple regression analysis, hypothesis test through t test, and coefficient of determination analysis (R2). Qualitative analysis is the interpretation of the data obtained in the research and the results of data processing that has been implemented by giving explanations and explanations. The result of the research found that partially consumer ethnocentrism only had positive effect on willingness to buy local product, while together, consumer attitude and consumer ethnocentrism have positive and significant effect to the willingness to buy Indonesian local product. Abstract:

This study aims to determine the effect of ethnocentrism and brand image on purchasing decisions with customer satisfaction as an intervening variable. Design / methodology / approach: This research is a type of explanatory research and the technique used in this research is path analysis using SPSS 25 software. The primary data used are questionnaires and interviews with 100 respondents using incidental techniques. Findings: The results of the study concluded that ethnocentrism and brand image influence purchasing decisions through customer satisfaction as intervening variables. And simultaneously it also shows that ethnocentrism and brand image influence consumer satisfaction and purchasing decisions. The brand image variable has a greater influence on consumer satisfaction and purchasing decisions than the ethnocentrism variable.

Abstract:

RESUMO Este texto apresenta as práticas espetaculares humanas a partir de seu estatuto diverso e diversificado, designadas por uma denominação original que lhe é própria. Discutem-se tais lexemas como valor de patronímico identitário. Discute-se o etnocentrismo nominal como uma tendência difundida em diferentes meios - inclusive acadêmicos - e que consiste em substituir o termo original por uma tradução analógica. Mostra-se como tal operação, exercida pelas línguas dominantes, faz adotar termos como teatro e tragédia como qualificativos para valorizar as práticas consideradas como menores. Criticam-se tais etnocentrismos, apresentando-se argumentos da literatura, da linguística e de outros campos de saber.

Dándole a las minorías un lugar en los suburbios del conocimiento y de la ciencia. La exclusión de las fuentes de conocimiento primitivo por el hombre contemporáneo. Le permite la sensación de dominio sobre el mismo hombre y sobre la naturaleza. La industrialización le permitió al hombre. Como lo menciona David Dickson: « El supuesto dominio sobre la naturaleza y la aplicación de las fuerzas naturales a sus propios fines» 1, pero a su vez, ha perdido hectáreas de selvas húmedas en la Amazonía, ha producido agujeros en la atmósfera y ha precipitado la extinción de diversas especies de flora y fauna, causando un desequilibrio eco lógico que ha llevado al gasto de rubros públicos en la investigación para la recuperación del medio ambiente.

Abstract:

O estudo objetivou identificar os padrões de estética bucal/gengival subjacentes à formação e prática profissional do cirurgião-dentista, na perspectiva do etnocentrismo. A partir da análise documental e da realização de entrevistas (semiestruturadas) com cirurgiões dentistas formados há dez ou mais anos, o estudo recorreu a uma abordagem qualitativa, ancorada na análise temática. No âmbito do ensino da periodontia, o estudo evidenciou que a presença da pigmentação fisiológica é omitida ou tratada como uma alteração de normalidade e/ou antiestética. Todos os entrevistados aprenderam a realizar o clareamento gengival em nível de pós-graduação, sendo estimulados a ofertar tal procedimento em nome de um sorriso saudável e bonito. Diante da supervalorização da eficiência da técnica, ressalta a ausência da discussão da questão estética na perspectiva étnica. Parece que a oferta do clareamento gengival se faz norteada pelo padrão branco de beleza, evidenciando o caráter etnocêntrico do procedimento.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to see how well newspapers manage to maintain their objectivity and balance when covering a Swedish team’s matches in an European tournament. We did this by doing a qualitative content analysis of the two biggest local newspapers, Sydsvenskan and Skånska Dagbladet, and the two biggest tabloids, Aftonbladet and Expressen – and their coverage of Malmö FF’s participation in the UEFA Champions League 2015. We analyzed all the post-game texts of the six games in the group stage – except for texts based on personal opinions, such as chronicles. The results show that the newspapers lose their objectivity and write more about the Swedish team and the Swedish players than the opponent team and their non-Swedish players. The result also show that the local newspapers put the focus on Malmö FF as a team, while the major tabloids focus on Malmö FF as being a part of Sweden and Swedish football. Last but not least the results also show that the ethnocentric and nationalistic attributes of the journalists play a major role in their writing.

Abstract:

Skolan är en plats för lärande och utveckling, med mål som bland annat innefattar en ökad förståelse och respekt för sina medmänniskor. Som lärare är man ansvarig för att dessa mål uppnås, vilket gör att en medvetenhet om vilka val läraren gör i sin undervisning är ytterst viktig. Ett av de verktyg lärare kan använda sig av för att förmedla kunskap är läroböcker. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur området Mellanöstern framställs i geografiläroböcker för gymnasiet. För att besvara detta syfte undersöks sammanhangen området förekommer i, vad läroböckernas innehåll förmedlar och om etnocentrism finns. Läroböckerna jämförs sedan för att se likheter och skillnader i innehåll. Metoden som används är kvalitativ text- och bildanalys av diskursanalytisk ansats. Undersökningens resultat visar att alla läroböcker berör området Mellanöstern i negativa sammanhang, men att vissa författare belyser positiva aspekter också. De bilder som används i läroböckerna avspeglas i de flesta fall som ett konstaterande av verkligheten, och en normativ sådan, men några uppmanar också till djupare reflektion. Vidare syns också en etnocentrisk syn i vissa kontexter, där jämförelser med Europa är det som tydliggör fenomenet.

Abstract:

Föreliggande arbete syftar till att undersöka representationen och skildringen av Sveriges nationella minoriteter samer, sverigefinnar, tornedalingar, romer och judar, i ett urval läroböcker för historia årskurs 7-9. Arbetet grundas i en tidigare påvisad brist i skildringen och representationen av de nationella minoriteterna i läroböcker, och ett vidare syfte har därmed varit att undersöka en eventuell utveckling i de nyaste läroböckerna för historia. Den teoretiska ramen utgår ifrån det interkulturella forskningsfältet, med fokus på att studera graden av nyansering och varierade perspektiv i beskrivningarna av minoriteterna. Även graden av etnocentrism och ”vi och de andra”-perspektiv har undersökts. Studien har varit tvådelad: en kvantitativ textanalys som använts för att visa representationen av minoriteterna och en kvalitativ textanalys som fokuserat på att synliggöra interkulturalitet, etnocentrism och ”vi och de andra”-perspektivet. Resultatet visar på en fortsatt brist i de studerade böckerna jämfört med granskningar av äldre böcker. De nationella minoriteternas representation varierar både mellan de olika böckerna och i förhållande till varandra, men det viktigaste resultatet är att minoriteterna i egenskap av nationella minoriteter inte behandlas på ett tillfredställande sätt. Samer är den enda minoriteten som ges utrymme i egenskap av nationell minoritet, men detta sker endast i en av tre böcker. Tornedalingar och sverigefinnar är i princip helt frånvarande i samtliga böcker. I de fall där judar och romer finns med är det i internationella perspektiv där de främst tillskrivs en offerroll. Graden av etnocentrism och ett ”vi och de andra”-perspektiv kommer till uttryck i samtliga böcker, men den nyaste bokserien har ändå visat en ansats till interkulturalitet, och ett försök att ta upp de nationella minoriteterna. Det sammanfattande omdömet av de studerade böckerna är att det krävs en förbättring av representationen och skildringen av de nationella minoriteterna för att de i praktiken ska kunna få det erkännande som de sedan länge haft rätt till i lagar och förordningar.

Abstract:

Denna uppsats belyser på vilka sätt etnocentrism och kommersialism kommer till uttryck i analyserat resejournalistiskt undersökningsmaterial. Med hjälp av metoden kritisk lingvistik har utvalda svenska textreportage analyserats för att finna underliggande värderingar som kommersialism och etnocentrism bidragit till. Varje textanalys kompletteras med en mindre bildanalys. Studien är komparativ och jämförelser sker dels mellan dagstidning och magasin, dels över en tidsperiod av 20 år. Frågeställningar som besvaras är vilka uttryck finns för etnocentrism respektive kommersialism i de utvalda reportagen samt finns skillnader i tendenser mellan dagspress och magasin och hur har det utvecklats över tid. Undersökningsmaterialet består av reportage med tillhörande bilder från 1993, 2003 och 2013 från DN, SvD, Vagabond och RES. Av resultaten går att dra slutsatsen att etnocentriska uttryck och föreställningar ökar när kommersialiseringen ökar. Det studerade materialet visar hur etnocentrism och kommersialism inom svensk resejournalistik kan agera i symbios.

Abstract:

This paper is on propaganda in popular culture, with a main focus on therelations between propaganda and ethnocentrism. The object of this paper hasbeen the movie Godzilla (2014) on which I conducted a qualitative discourseanalysis to extract a deeper meaning of the movie. The theories that I've usedin this paper are: postcolonialism, orientalism, ethnocentrism and Us-and-Them. By using these theories in combination with my qualitative discourseanalysis I've been able to establish a clear pattern of the relationship betweenpropaganda in film and ethnocentrism. The way the film choses to portray itsdifferent elements defines they way the elements are interpeted by theviewer, which causes the viewer to feel a strengthened ethnocentrism. Thispaper also offers a discussion on the consequences of that relationship.

Abstract:

Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att ta reda på hur Afrika och afrikanerpresenteras i historieböckernaför grundskolans senare år. Materialetsom användes bestod av 10historieböcker från fyra olika förlag. Metoden som används i denna uppsats är en kvalitativ innehållsanalys med hermeneutiskinriktningvilketinnebär att fokus ligger på förståelsen av budskapeti texterna.Postkolonialismen är den teoretiska utgångspunkten för detta arbete. Resultatet visar att utrymmet för Afrika i läroböckerna är litet och att deförmedlar en etnocentrisk bild. Afrikas förkoloniala historia ges inte stor prioritering. Afrika visarsig vara intressant endast i samband med européernasintåg. Afrikanen i de studerade historieböckerna skildras somanonym, passiv och som objekt.

Abstract:

One of the major principles in teaching are textbooks materials. The purpose of this study is to examine how textbooks materials unintentionally become intermediaries of structural discrimination. One important area to examine is how civic textbooks talk about the family and discrimination. Based on the concepts of white normativity and ethnocentrism, three digital educational materials for the civics subject of primary school are examined. With theoretical points on skin colour, this study examines which individuals are included and excluded from the textbook materials and in what contexts individuals are represented. With a discourse analysis as theory and method, several questions have been asked about the texts and images of the textbook materials used in this study. The overall purpose is to try to answer the question; is there a perceived underlying expression of a white normativity and ethnocentrism in the teaching materials? Specifically, the study will examine the two questions touched upon above: Which individuals are included and excluded in the teaching materials? and How does the Western ethnocentric perspective and white normativity in the teaching materials appear? The results of the study demonstrate that white normativity prevails in all the textbook materials studied and that there are examples of ethnocentric expressions. An underlying pattern can be seen that non-white individuals are underrepresented in the textbook materials and that the contexts which non-whites are represented demonstrate a discriminatory and narrow framework. In addition, the study opens for interpretation that the area studied in the textbook materials used, does not reflect an overall picture of what Sweden's population actually looks like for children and adolescents today. Furthermore, the results present that the content of the examined learning material goes against what the school's regulatory documents express, i.e. that the school should convey values and explicitly distance itself from discrimination and racism.

Abstract:

Esta dissertação trata das relações de poder que marcam a produção científica ocidental moderna a partir da abordagem dos estudos sobre Gênero e Ciência da feminista historiadora da ciência estadunidense Donna Haraway. Esta autora propõe a concepção de toda a produção de conhecimento como pratica política, assumindo a perspectiva parcial como fundamento para uma ciência objetiva e apontando a perspectiva de objetividade calcada na ideia de imparcialidade como produtora de um tipo de saber que historicamente serviu como instrumento de dominação: o conhecimento que se propõe como universal. Em sua narrativa, o androcentrismo, o etnocentrismo, o racismo e as divisões de classe operam na conformação e nas transformações desta ciência a partir da construção de um sujeito privilegiado do conhecimento, o cientista, figura constituída a imagem e semelhança do homem branco ocidental independente. Meu recorte de sua obra são as reformulações dessas relações ao longo da historia da ciência ocidental moderna observadas por ela na emergência e nas produções de um conjunto especifico de disciplinas do campo das ciências naturais biológicas, fortemente marcadas pelas teorias e tecnologias da informação e da comunicação produzidas no campo da cibernética. Na construção de um discurso critico sobre os saberes / poderes hegemônicos, Haraway traz para a cena da ciência figuras monstruosas, entre elas o ciborgue, tanto como meio de revelar categorias culturais atuando na produção do conhecimento como para materializar novos significados para natureza, os corpos e as relações de diferença. Em conexão com esses monstros, refigurados em suas narrativas, a autora defende uma relação de conexão, e não de divisão, entre sujeito e objeto do saber.
This dissertation abords the power relations that mark the modern occidental scientific production from the point of view of the Gender and Science studies of the north-american feminist and historian of science Donna Haraway. The author proposes a conception of all the knowledge production as a political practice, assuming a partial perspective as a fundament to an objective science and pointing the objectivity perspective based on the idea of impartiality as a producer of a type of knowledge that historically served as an instrument of domination: the knowledge that proposes itself as universal. In her narrative, the androcentrism, ethnocentrism, racism and the class divisions operate on the conformation and the transformations of this science from the construction of a knowledge privileged persona, the scientist, character developed from the image and similarity of an independent western white man. My extract of the book is the reformulations of these relationships along with the modern western science observed by the author in the emerging and in the productions of a specific group of disciplines in the field of biological natural science, which were strongly marked by the theory and technology of information and communication produced in the cybernetic science. In the construction of a critic discussion about the hegemonic nowerpowers, Haraway brings monstrous characters to light, among them a cyborg, as much as a way to revel cultural categories acting in the knowledge production as to materialize new meanings to the nature, bodies and the differences relationships. Compromised with these monsters, human figures and non-human redefined in her narratives, the author defends a relationship of connection, and not of division, between the subject and the object of knowledge.

Mitt syfte med denna uppsats var att undersöka om lärarna på omvårdnadsprogrammet upplever att de använder den kunskap som eleverna besitter i form av olika kulturer kommer fram i utbildningen. Syftet var också att se om lärarna reflekterar kring sin egen bakgrund och den egna kulturen. Jag har gjort en kvalitativ intervjustudie där jag intervjuat åtta karaktärsämneslärare på fyra olika skolor i Skåne.Jag hade tre frågeställningar Hur upplever lärarna att de tar till vara den mångkulturella gruppens erfarenheter i undervisningen? Upplever lärarna att de använder någon medveten metodik för interkulturellt lärande? Hur väl är lärarna medvetna om sin egna kulturella bakgrund?I min studie visade det sig att det råder konsensus mellan lärarna i frågan om elevernas kulturella bakgrund behövs och används i undervisningen. Den kulturella bakgrunden värdesätts högt av lärarna och de upplever också alla att de låter eleverna ta del av varandras erfarenheter i undervisningen. Lärarna hade också uppfattningen att arbetsgivarna såg positivt på kulturella kunskaper. Jag har analyserat materialet utifrån Hans Lorentz (2004) modell i interkulturellt lärande och funnit att modellen varit användbar som analysverktyg. Lärarnas citat tyder på att de är medvetna om interkulturellt lärande och har ambitionen att få eleverna att nå ett etnorelativistiskt synsätt.

Abstract:

El principio de universalizacíon de la ética del discurso al presentarse como principio universal-procedimental de legitimación de normas, sin contenido material, agudiza las sospechas de etnocentrismo de los "defensores" de las diferencias culturales. Creemos, sin embargo, que la ética del discurso, con su principio de universalización, pone a la luz esa racionalidad-dialógica desde la que es posible no sólo respetar sino fomentar la existencia de comunidades diferentes, abiertas. Contiene, en lo trascendental, las condiciones de posibilidad de realización de diálogos concretos. En este sentido afirmamos que universalismo moral y diferencia cultural se complementan; de otro modo nos encontraríamos con universalismo vacio o con posiciones culturales dogmàticas; cuando de lo que se trata es mas bien, dialógicamente, de un pluralismo valorativo.
