Full textThe present work focuses on optimal management, resource sharing and conflicts resolution in Discrete Event Systems (DES). We mainly focus on public transportation systems and supply chains. The main objective of this work is to develop a generic approach to represent the functioning of a DES in a real and dynamic context, with fewer simplifying assumptions. More precisely, we aim to develop theoretical models, describing the behavior of the real system characterized by different phenomena including conflicts and resource sharing. In order to solve these phenomena, we develop algorithms and routing policies to arbitrate conflicts and thus determine and control the different states of the system. To this end, we propose a new modelling approach combining colored Petri nets and (max, +) algebra. The obtained models make it possible to study and evaluate the behavior of the system and therefore prove its performance properties. As a second contribution, and in order to improve the performance of the system, a control approach based on residuation theory in dioid algebra is developed. The purpose of this control is to ensure a certain performance both for users, in terms of waiting times and travel times, and for companies in terms of the number of transportation means to deploy in the network (vehicles, etc.) in order to minimize their costs. The developed models are generic and can be applied to any public transportation network (bus network, rail network, multimodal network, etc.) of any size. Similarly, these models are adapted to supply chain networks in order to minimize storage and transport times for goods in different warehouses and distribution hubs. Illustrative examples are given to show the applicability of the proposed approach and the obtained results are promising. These examples enables the verification and the validation of the developed models through concrete scenarios. Finally, a simulation tool, based on established models and programmed with python, is developed. This tool is used to study, analyze and control DES, particularly public transportation systems and supply chains

Full textNetwork programmability is a major issue in the evolution of telecommunication systems. However, the emergence of new initiatives in the context of the internet of the future, such as network function virtualization and specialized tools such as Openstack makes it possible to develop new approaches to control and manage the network infrastructure. This new approach on which telecom operators rely to accelerate their digital transformation will impact not only the way networks are defined but also the main role of the operator, who now hasto manage cloud resources in combination with network resources. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze the modifications that will affect the infrastructure of the operator in order to design resource allocation algorithms adapted to the context of the virtualization of network functions

Full textThe purpose of health networks is the compleat and coordinated care of patients by professionals from health and social sectors in a specific area and, most often, for a specific pathology or population. The government expects that these networks will also control health expenses throught a more rational system of care. In order to meet these challenges and assure their continuitiy, the networks should become agents of change, in terms of both continuity and quality of care, in the midst of changing practices. At the center of the system is the coordinator, on whom the success of the entire system largely depends. Nevertheless, professional literature has little to say about this new profession of coordinators, and managers lack sources of information required for its successful realization. This doctoral research seeks to examine the main requirements of the performance of the coordination in the health network. It provide for Public Health a research directed to Human Resources (RH) that will provide a keener understanding of its function, its challenges and its requirements. Finally, it propose to network managers and their associates ways to improve the performance of the coordinator and therefore contribute to the efficiency of the entire network

Full textMany studies have pointed out the high frequency of co-morbid associations in neurodevelopmental disorders. However, few of them have given details of cognitive functions in developmental dyslexia (DD) and developmental coordination disorder (DCD) children and still fewer on the association of DD and DCD. The main purpose of this article is to compare the intellectual characteristics of the 3 populations and, in particular, to investigate the cognitive profiles of children with co-occurrence. Recent theories consider that procedural learning may support frequent overlap between neurodevelopemental disorders. In particular, the brain networks involved in this learning (cortico-striatal (CS) and cortico-cerebellar (CC) loops) could account for frequent co-morbidity between DCD and DD (about 40 to 60% of DD and DCD subjects suffer from both disorders). The aim of our study was to investigate cerebral changes due to the motor sequence learning process, especially the finger-tapping task (FTT), from acquisition through automatization, in children with DD, DCD, or DD and DCD. The neural circuitry supporting this action is well-known and well-modelled (Doyon et al., 2009), and includes, among others, CC and CS loops. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in 48 children (8-12 years old) with neurodevelopmental disorders (16 DD, 16 DCD and 16 DD+DCD) explored their brain activity during FTT, performed either after 2 weeks of training or in the early stage of learning. First, we analyzed the results in all participants (22 DCD, 20 DD and 23 DD+DCD) in tests assessing cognitive (WISC-IV), attentional (CPT-II) and behavioural (CBCL) abilities. No difference was found between the 3 groups in attention testing (CPT) and behavioural characteristics (CBCL). Significant between-groups differences were observed in Processing Speed Index (PSI) score and the block design and symbol search subtests. Post hoc group comparisons showed that DD fared better than DCD children. No significant differences were found between the co-morbid vs. pure groups: co-morbid association did not cause an accumulation of disorders. Second, our results indicated that all children with DD, DCD or both disorders performed the tasks with good automaticity, but suggested that different compensatory brain processes allowed them to access this automatization stage. Our fMRI results do not appear to confirm Nicolson's model but tend more towards shared disability in CS and CC loops for both DD and DCD, with slight between-group differences in these areas. Moreover, and in agreement with the results of previous fMRI studies in DCD children, our data disclosed increasing evidence that this group needs to invest more brain areas to achieve similar performances. Lastly, it appears that the co-morbid and DD groups are very close in cognitive profile (especially on WISC-IV) and in neural correlates associated with our paradigm, while the DCD group presents specific, distinct and particular characteristics. Our data therefore indicate a promising direction for future research on the neural mechanisms linked with learning in neurodevelopmental disorders and in understanding co-morbidity

Full textHuman collaboration has always been a way to help one another, to work together, to overcome difficult tasks. However, with digital tools, these actions have been amplified allowing the sharing of experiences and knowledge for a common goal. Collaborative digital network work (TCRN) is based on the notion of collaboration, with a particular technological feature. For Spinuzzi (2012), collaborative work is a system of collective activity where several employees participate in tasks in a cyclical way to solve problems. Kitade (2000), calls this way of working as a computer-mediated communication (CMO), and finds that interaction and collaboration form the basis of this new form of work. The goal of this research is to understand the workings of collaborative work in a digital network, and how decision-makers are seizing tools to ensure smooth operation. To better explore this type of fieldwork, two studies were conducted separately. The first study is of a qualitative nature with an abductive approach, the successful round trips in the field, allowed to observe a set of variables useful for this form of work. As for the second study, it is of a quantitative nature, hence the interest of using first-generation inferential statistics to validate or invalidate our hypotheses. The results of our research indicate a set of variables that fit this type of work such as collective intelligence, community culture or knowledge sharing. From this work, it is also apparent that mobility, collaboration and document sharing form the foundation of digital work environments

The system is therefore suboptimal Furthermore, the operation of the converters on the AN is not necessarily representative of the actual operation : the AN is not necessarily representative of the impedances of embedded networks . Thus , filtering of a converter can be optimized but on the AN is not necessarily optimal since it is a real network . Full textThe rapid growth of air traffic needs a new communication infrastructure with increased bandwidth, high speed services and applications to satisfy expected air-ground communication requirements. Satellite communication systems play a significant role in this context, not only as a complement to terrestrial systems for Air Traffic Management (ATM) by offering global coverage but also as a promising solution to enrich In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) for passengers. DVB-S2/RCS technology is an attractive proposition to provide the cost-effective broadband services for both ATM and IFE, mainly because a large radio bandwidth is primarily allocated to aeronautical mobile communications in Ka-band, where the open standards DVB are implemented. However, such system design with convergence of heterogeneous traffics involves two main challenges. Firstly, using Ka-band means the implementation of Fade Mitigation Techniques (FMT) in order to cope with deep fades caused by atmospheric attenuation. Otherwise, the waste of capacity would be excessively high in a constant link margin design. FMT adapt in real time the link budget to the propagation conditions, this adaptivity has an impact not only on physical layer but also on upper layers. An efficient ressource management strategy with dynamic bandwidth allocation is required in this case, especially in DVB-RCS return link where FMT are not natives. Secondly, the proposed system must be able to multiplex the trafic flows with highly different characteristics and Quality of Service (QoS) expectations into a single link, the corresponding capacity management and QoS support seem with higher complexity. In this paper, we present an adaptive system design using a single DVB-S2/RCS based satellite link to provide Internet access and mobile telephony (GSM/UMTS) for passengers and a high-reliability channel for ATM. Concerning the airborne terminal architecture, two approaches are investigated. The first one is in compliance with ETSI Broadband Satellite Multimedia (BSM) architecture and based on a layering paradigm. The conducted simulation experiments highlight the need of dynamic interactions and adaptations among the layers to achieve an overall performance optimization. We propose then an enhanced approach with the concentration of both resource allocation and QoS management at the same interface – adaptation layer. The idea comes from the success of the recent Generic Stream Encapsulation (GSE) protocol, which carries the network protocol packets over DVB-S2 forward link in a simple, flexible and efficient way, especially when used with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM). Furthermore, GSE can be easily extended to use in our design for DVB-RCS return link thanks to a proper design of MF-TDMA structure in which the suitable FMT (ACM and Dynamic Rate Adaptation) are context-aware configured. With the combined use of GSE, service policy and the interactions between adaptation and access layers, incoming heterogeneous traffics can be dynamically scheduled, segmented and encapsulated at the same adaptation layer. Performance evaluation of two proposed approaches is derived by a network-level simulation model developed using OPNET. Results prove the enhanced approach outperforms the first one leading to better resource utilization and satisfactory performance

Full textThe change in the organizational environment and the evolution in information technology have led businesses to develop more flexible organizational structures. Three major strategic periods in the history of business can be distinguished: "do it alone", "make it done or outsourcing" and "doing it together". Companies therefore passed from a phase of strong internalization of resources or vertical integration of activity, characterized by some form of autonomy. The next phase is that of outsourcing. Its goal is to be more efficient by outsourcing certain activities. The third phase, which we now live is that of inter-firm cooperation. It makes possible the development of innovation and business value-added activities. The most recent organizational form stemming from this evolution is the "network", i. E. , a set of players who put up a business through a collaborative strategy. In this context, this thesis is devoted to study the performance of enterprise networks. We conducted a qualitative research method based on the case study of two competing Brazilian networks in the textile sector of colored cotton. Their performance is studied in terms of non-financial criteria based on five variables: the role of institutions, the expectations of stakeholders, the partners' selection, the knowledge transfer and the evaluation process of the network. These variables represent the management of networks and their interaction has an impact on network performance

It make possible to deploy safety applications (colision avoidance, roadworks advertisement, etc.), real time application (driver assistance, automated driving, etc.), comfort application (automatic toll payment, access to multimedia contents via internet, etc.). In order to be functioning completely, the vehicle needs more and more computing power and a connection with almost no interruption. To guarantee this constraints, VANETs are using more and more often the Cloud Computing. This thesis aims to explore the differents intereactions between VANETs and the Cloud

Full textCurrently social networks focus on the sharing and exchange of opinions, videos, photos, music, news and others informations, one of its objectives is to establish direct and indirect linkswith users. Social networks also promote products, people (their political or artistic image) orinfluential brands.Social networks are changing rapidly, so we’re looking to see the evolution of these sharingtools, and see how social networks change over time.We have the opportunity to study the events that occur in social networks thanks to the amount ofdata they produce. In the current market there are tools that allow the analysis of social networks, but most tools are not free, and 100% free tools disappear over time. For this reason we decidedto produce computer tools able to extract and analyse the data of the social networks studied. This study begins with the state of the art, where we describe the context of the problem, thework that led to this study and a summary of the contributions made during the thesis that wepresent briefly in the rest of the abstract.i. First we focus on the geo-linguistic fingerprint and language evolution in Twitter. Accessto content of messages sent by a group of subscribers of a social network may be usedto identify and quantify some features of a group. The feature can represent the level ofinterest in an event or product, or the popularity of an idea, or of a musical hit, or of apolitical figure. The feature can also represent how language is used and transformed, how words are written and how new grammatical rules appear.ii. Then we study the evolution of the cultural phenomenon called meme in social networks.Memes were defined by R. Dowkins as a cultural phenomenon that spreads through nongeneticforms. We examine three of the most popular memes of the internet and examinetheir impact on society in the Mediterranean countries. We use for analysing Google Trends, Topsy (a tool to measure the popularity of words on Twitter) and YouTube toquantify the impact of memes in the Mediterranean society.iii. After that we study the YouTube recommendation graph based on measurements andstochastic tools. We confirm that recommendation lists influence the views of a video. We focus on the recommendation system that boosts the popularity of videos. We buildfirst a graph that captures the recommendation system in YouTube and we study the relationshipbetween the number of views of a video and the average number of views of avideo in its recommendation list.iv. To conclude we describe the online tools available and the tools that we developed duringthe thesis. The online tools Topsy, Trendistic and Google Trends allowed us to analyseplatforms like YouTube and Twitter. We also produced tools based on API’s: in Twitterwe used the Streaming function to download and analyse tweets, with the Topsy APIwe studied the evolution of the language and the use of words, and the YouTube’s APIsallowed us to describe the behaviour on the lists of recommendations and the popularityof videos

Full textHow can the performance of interorganizational networks be built ? The performance of organizations is often reduced to its financial dimension. However, the performance which rests on the expectations of the various stakeholders concerned has several aspects. The object of this research consists in defining the different dimensions, axes and criteria which characterize the model of the performance of the maritime port communities, the field of our research, which is characterized by the absence of a pivotal firm. The operability of such a model supposes sufficient convergence of the players in the network concerning the objectives of the organization, convergence which constitutes more generally one of conditions of the co-operation within the network

Full textVirtualization appears as a key solution to revolutionize the architecture of ossified networks, such as the Internet. By adding a layer of abstraction on top of the actual hardware, virtual networks can be managed and configured flexibly and independently. The flexibility introduced into the network provides the operator with options for topology reconfiguration, besides allowing it to play with the software stacks and protocols. Today, network virtualization has been realized in research testbeds, allowing researchers to experiment with routing. Introducing virtualization in a production network such as those of the Internet raises several challenges, in particular the performance and the sharing of the routing and switching resources. These are in particular relevant, when the network data plane is virtualized, for maximum isolation and configurability in virtual networks. Therefore, we first evaluate and analyze the impact of virtualization on the performance of virtual software routers. Then, for being able to virtualize the data plane in production networks, we propose a hardware architecture of a virtualized switch, enabling the differentiated sharing of resources such as the ports and the memory buffers. Moreover, we examine the possible applications of virtual networks and propose a service for virtual networks on demand with configurable routing and controlled bandwidth. We apply and evaluate this service in the context of virtual infrastructures

Full textThe cortex is crucial for processes such as sensory perception, cognition and memory. Cortical organization is based on neuronal networks composed of excitatory (E) and inhibitory (I) neurons which target layer 5 pyramidal neurons. Dysfunctions of such networks result in psychiatric pathologies including major depression and schizophrenia. Regulations of cortical activity also involve neuromodulators such as serotonin, dopamine, D-serine and glycine. The current body of work decipher the interactions of the effects of 5-HT1A-, D1-, D2-, NMDA- and Glycine-receptors activation on the E-I balance and synaptic plasticity. The electrophysiological data that I have generated in the prefrontal cortex show that concomitant activation of 5-HT1A- and D1-receptors downregulates the induction of LTD whilst 5-HT1A coupled to D2-receptors activation promotes LTD induction, via a common modulation of GSK3β. I also collected data from the visual cortex, showing that D-serine is the co-agonist NMDA-receptor in this brain region and is, as such, required for LTP-induction. Glycine was instead found to act on dendritic Glycine-receptors, resulting in a shunt, which altered dendritic integration and thus turned LTP to a LTD-like effect at the somatic level

Full textOur thesis begins by an overview of the optimal coordination of overcurrent relays and distance relays. For an optimal coordination, the relays settings, being the time multiplier setting TMS, the pickup currents Ip and the operating time of the second zone of distance relay tz2, must be determined with the help of linear or nonlinear optimization methods. The objective of the overview is to identify the advantages and the drawbacks of the available methods. The principal disadvantages of the existing methods are no-optimal selection of pickup currents with linear optimization, then the complexity of nonlinear discrete optimization and finally the determination of no discrete settings of relays. Ln order to overcome these disadvantages, we have developed a new method for the optimal coordination of protective relays. The proposed method uses a linear formulation of the coordination problem in order to optimize the relay settings with values complying with setting ranges. The comparison with certain existing methods certifies the efficiency of the proposed method

Full textDue to the improvement of deep sub-microelectronic technologies, more and more transistors are available inside a die. But those improvements are difficult to exploit because of the design complexity and the time-to-market constraints. It is necessary to propose new paradigms of architecture in order to exploit future technologies. The implementation of any application requires two kinds of resources: controls which describe algorithms, operators which perform computation. A new reconfigurable architecture concepts which are suitable for both parts is proposed. The key concepts of the proposed architecture is to map controls using a mechanism called the reconfigurable cache, and to improve the processing performance with an adapted reconfigurable architecture. Furthermore this architecture allows scheduling reconfiguration processes using an event based mechanism which we call auto-reconfiguration. This thesis includes architectural consideration and a tool to manage those innovations

Full textIn the future, home networks will combine four worlds. Computer communications, digital entertainment services, telecommunications and smart applications. This proliferation of services and facilities yields to a more and more complex management for home networks because management systems used in other types of networks, such as corporate networks, are not suitable for users of home networks. That is why intelligent management systems find their way into homes. We have developed an intelligent system that has the role of managing the entire home. Using techniques from artificial intelligence, our system can collect information at different points of the home to populate the knowledge base and thus make the right decisions so that all services can coexist and be consistent with expectations. Regarding security, we committed to implement two authentication systems, one that authenticates Internet access from an ISP and the other that takes care of the authentication of people to access the home network. On a broader scope than just home networks, we also made our contribution to the difficult task of designing protocols with a Post-IP view. We have proposed a design method based on the composition of functionnalities with a header-driven model

Full textThe propagation of a characteristic through a network is the subject of study of many scientific fields. Epidemics, viral marketing or information propagation through a social network are among the many examples of real phenomena modeled by the evolution of a characteristic propagating through the edges of a network. Thus, being capable of acting on these diffusion processes is of capital interest for many fields. Despite the large literature about the theoretical aspects of diffusion processes, and more specifically the discovery of an epidemic threshold under which the propagation is not sustainable, a number of practical limitations prevent the use of these studies in real-life scenarios. In this thesis, we work on reducing the distance separating theory from practice, following three distinct research directions: the generalization of theoretical results to a larger, and more realistic, class of diffusion models, the development of efficient dynamic control measures utilizing the structure of network to its advantage, and, finally, the definition of new mathematical tools bridging the gap between spatial and network approaches in epidemiology. More specifically, our work allows the rigorous analysis of the behavior of a network's characteristics when it converges, in a structural sense, to a given metric space, and could open the way to the application of control strategies on networks to spatial and macroscopic information (e.g. transportation or demographic data) about the contact network in a given population

Full textThe future generation of the Internet requires a powerful control plane wherein the signaling plays a key role in enabling information exchanges between the network elements to provide the existing and future network services. The thesis develops a generic IP signaling protocol, referred to as GISP, which provides common functionalities required by most IP signaling protocols including state management, transport and security services. The GISP implements a soft-state approach to manage the signaling states established within the network elements. In particular, a new soft-state management mechanism is proposed to significantly reduce the signaling traffic as well as the CPU resource consumption allowing the GISP to meet scalability in the number of signaling sessions. The GISP supports the signaling messages transport between the network elements. A variety of transport services have been specifically developed for GISP such as message bundling, message fragmentation, path MTU discovery, partially reliable transport and congestion control. These services have been designed to provide performance, flexibility and robustness for the generic signaling protocol. Finally, the GISP provides security services to protect the message transport as well as the network from vicious attacks. A GISP implementation has been realized in the context of the thesis to experience the GISP functionalities and evaluate its performance aspects

Full textRelational data are ubiquitous in the nature and their accessibility has not ceased to increase in recent years. Those data, see as a whole, form a network, which can be represented by a data structure called a graph, where each vertex of the graph is an entity and each edge a connection between pair of vertices. Complex networks in general, such as the Web, communication networks or social network, are known to exhibit common structural properties that emerge through their graphs. In this work we emphasize two important properties called *homophilly* and *preferential attachment* that arise on most of the real-world networks. We firstly study a class of powerful *random graph models* in a Bayesian nonparametric setting, called *mixed-membership model* and we focus on showing whether the models in this class comply with the mentioned properties, after giving formal definitions in a probabilistic context of the latter. Furthermore, we empirically evaluate our findings on synthetic and real-world network datasets. Secondly, we propose a new model, which extends the former Stochastic Mixed-Membership Model, for weighted networks and we develop an efficient inference algorithm able to scale to large-scale networks

Full textAdvances in mobile and wireless networks have made fourth generation networks development possible 4g networks promote the concept of the always best connected and served (abc&s) paradigm. The abc&s paradigm envisages that mobile terminals will stay connected: anywhere & anytime. The combination of ranges. Our work consists on conception of a wireless overlay network structure and scheme for handoffs. The primary technical challenges in the design of a seamless handoff are: low latency and packet loss. The ad hoc networks are considered as a generalization of the wireless networks because the role of the fixed infrastructure is limiied. Recently, significant progress to study qos in the mobile ad hoc networks has been made. This thesis presents a critical vision of interesting work in this field. The strong and weak points of each proposal are exploited to carry out a complete qos model. This model uses a qos routing protocol to find the best paths for each flow according to its qos requirements an admission control and reservation are used to prevent the network overload without mobility
